Friday lunchtime delivers our weekly Sky Sports summary, looking back on the previous Gameweek and preparing you for the incoming fixtures.

As always, we’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, then move on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 18 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

Man United vs BournemouthDavid de Gea
Liverpool vs West BromSalomon Rondon
West Ham vs ArsenalAngelo Ogbonna
Spurs vs BrightonSon Hueng-min

Kevin De Bruyne (five) and Eden Hazard (four) continue their pursuit of Mohamed Salah (six) at the summit of the MoTM table.

Ironically, the awards for the pair of Belgians were questionable on the day, with several other team-mates also in the frame for the gong. This highlights the reporters’ perceived bias, which continues to make creative midfielders great options for our XI.

Elsewhere, Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny, at just 4.3, looks a very enticing option at present.

Price alone is enough of a reason to include him, but delving further into the statistics highlights that he’s started the last nine for the Toffees, including a run of four matches that reads seven, seven, six, ten in terms of points.

A special mention also goes to Son Hueng-min, who picked up the accolade in both his Gameweek outings for Spurs. If only a certain Harry Kane could follow suit.

Gameweek 18 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 25 points or more in bonus for the season.

This list aims to highlight a few differential players with low ownership who I think could be good options for the coming six weeks.

Three specific price brackets will be used to cater for our available budgets.

The players will evolve with fixtures and form and should offer Fantasy managers a nudge in the right direction.

Notes

I’m now up to 182nd in the rankings, but at the cost of a few more transfers. The injury to Kiko Fermenia and the benching of Leroy Sane and Kyle Walker forced my hand somewhat. Though, in truth, I probably jumped the gun and could have attempted to ride out the setbacks.

Having said that, Sane has been a thorn in my side ever since I brought him in back in Gameweek 16; he’s scored just four points in as many matches.

That decision hurts even more given that, at the time, I was weighing him up against David Silva. I’d usually have gone for the Spaniard, given his advantage for passing bonus points, but in this case, I opted for Sane as he was simply on fire.

Silva has subsequently notched up 46 points in those four weeks, meaning that in theory, I could have been 42 points better off and sitting in 44th place overall – a chilling thought.

I’m now looking to limit my transfer activity as much as possible; my line-up looks settled and I’m happy with it.

Having said that, I could be tempted into shifting out Richarlison if injured, along with Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. The aforementioned Kenny and Silva would be drafted in, giving me an all-star attack.

Captain Plan

Sat 16th – Hazard (SOT)
Sun 17th – Salah (bou)
Mon 18th – None

Klopp on injuries: "Joel is in a good way - he's running outside, but he's not available. Sturridge, we'll have to wait. Joe Gomez should be OK. Robbo had a knock in the last game. Adam should be ready for the squad if nothing happens. Moreno - no chance. Simon is OK."

Hope we’l have to wait a long time for Sturridge. Don’t need another one competing for starts under Klopp.

Mark, Jonty et al: Zouma's Bloomers' comment about the dead team in his league being on 25k OR with one transfer all season and KDB as perma-captain got me thinking, and I checked FPL Statistico. He has got as many captain points as me all season despite not changing his captain at all!

It made me wonder if we are prioritising 'hauls' with a big points ceiling over consistent returns. To that end, can I suggest a new stat for your tables? This is "matches blanked" - where a player appears in a game and fails to register at least one goal or assist (or clean sheet for a defender)? I think this would be extremely helpful in deciding captaincy.

    1. _Make
      • 9 Years
      8 years, 3 months ago

Alternatively a "% of of matches producing a meaningful return" stat (i.e. more than, say, five points per game).

I dont get it.. why are people getting Spurs and West Ham for DGW, when they have a gw21 blank? Isn't the advantage of them having a dgw negated with a blank a week prior?

      Whu are benchable easily.

Spurs are different matter, they are too expensive to bench more than one. I am going to bench Kane and then get Son and maybe defender for dgw. Maybe for a hit, if I’ll want Arnie/Antonio

    Best Dead Team competition

What are the best dead teams you have seen in your mini-league. A true ghost ship team will have had no transfers made throughout the season so far.

DARK91 - MESSIDONIA has (claims to have :)) a dead team at 20k. Can you beat that?

Post the team's rank and captain, and links or it didn't happen 🙂

Actually, I think we could learn a lot from these. They show something about how the template team should look, if we're not being swayed by fixtures and other fads.

OK this isn't quite a dead team because he did use his TC chip in GW2, but so very nearly (and it is by my criteria above).

Interesting - strong defence, strong midfield without anyone particularly expensive, inexpensive frontline. The funds are nicely distributed.

Is he going ourscore Rubin?! Should I get rid?

Is there anyone better for under £5 mil?

Kante, Ndidi and Fletcher have more points overall this season!

Thoughts on Bony as a cheap striking option? Is he nailed considering Swansea have barely scored all season and he is now back and in form?

Morata was rested under the guise of an injury. If you watch morata play he's quite lazy and isn't used to playing so many games in a short period. He's a bit soft too, always falling about the place with the merest of touches. He'll play tomorrow but won't play every game over the Xmas schedule.

He'll play tomorrow, rested again midweek, and play all the games over Xmass.

I think someone didn't do their research and decided to get rid the other night?

He's not even close to lazy if you watch the games properly. He's surprisingly quick when he find space to run in behind, as shown by one of his Hat-trick goals v Stoke.

For someone so good aerially, you cannot be soft. Yes, he may have tried too hard for the odd penalty appeal but that's just the continental style.

Say what you like about him but lazy he is not.
