Next up, we roll out our pre-Gameweek members’ article, assessing the leading captaincy candidates for the upcoming round of fixtures.

We get underway with an analysis of the Captain Poll, then check in with the Opta numbers and Rate My Team ratings before looking at a couple of differential options for Gameweek 23.

The Captain Poll

Harry Kane sits atop our Poll once again as Spurs prepare to welcome Everton to Wembley Stadium.

Despite failing to score in seven of his 11 league outings at Spurs temporary abode, Kane’s penchant for explosive hauls – he’s produced at least two goals on seven occasions this term – has earned him over 45% of the votes cast.

By comparison, the Spurs midfield has been largely overlooked.

Son Heung-min (1%) has been far more consistent at home than Kane, scoring in six of his last seven outings, while Dele Alli is backed by just 0.8% despite bagging two goals and four assists in his previous four appearances.

A home clash with Stoke City helps Jesse Lingard to second spot on 9% – his highest placing of the season.

Over the last nine Gameweeks he’s supplied seven goals and two assists, serving up double-digits four times. That form looks promising for Monday’s meeting with a defence that’s conceded more goals on the road (27) than any other side.

Romelu Lukaku’s (4%) goal and assist off the bench against Derby in the FA Cup suggests he could be back in form after a dire run of two goals in his last nine league matches.

Meanwhile, just 3% have opted for Paul Pogba, whose 12-point tally away to Everton last time out was his first double-digit haul since Gameweek 12.

Eden Hazard and Sergio Aguero share third spot on 6%.

Hosting a Leicester defence with only one clean sheet on their travels, Hazard’s record alongside Alvaro Morata makes for convincing reading – he’s delivered five goals, two assists and 56 FPL points in his last six starts alongside the summer signing.

The Belgian returned to a central role behind Morata away to Arsenal last time out and found the net for the first time since Gameweek 15.

With his rival Gabriel Jesus sidelined through injury, Aguero has stepped up his recent output, netting six times in as many matches in all competitions.

He heads to Anfield boasting an average of 6.5 points per match in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), more than any forward.

Marcos Alonso also earns just 2% of the votes for Chelsea’s clash with Leicester. Yet with two goals, three clean sheets and 34 FPL points in his last three home fixtures, the wing-back makes for a very intriguing armband alternative.

Back in contention after shrugging off a groin complaint, Mohamed Salah has served up points in 12 of his last 13 and has nine sets of double-digit hauls to his name. Yet only 3% are willing to back the Liverpool wide man.

Raheem Sterling and Roberto Firmino offer in-form alternatives in the same Anfield fixture – both have both bagged three sets of 10+ points hauls in their last four starts.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

You're midfield is disgusting in a season where all the points are coming from midfield. Hazard has been awful. No Lingard. Jesus...

Why would you tie 25m up in 2 players you will never captain? (Two of Kaku/Kun/Kane)... you can have Silva/Son/Pogba for the same price... Lingard, Alonso etc all offer better value imo

Leaning towards A. Which one to replace Cout for a -4? Ideally £7m max, so I can bring in Kun next week.

    A) Coutinho to Arnautovic
    B) Coutinho to Ramsey

    Elliot,
    Otamendi, Jones, Mee,
    Salah, Coutinho, Sterling, Son, Lingard,
    Kane, Depoitre.

    Adrian, DCL, Kenny, Mbemba.

If Sanchez goes to City, has anyone considered transferring him in before he goes leaving 4 city players? E.g. could get Ota, Sterling, Sanchez and Aguero....

    A)

Personally I wouldn't have Mahrez until I see how the transfer window pays out, possibly Ramsey instead. I'd get Dunk and another cheap but nailed defender to rotate for the 4th defensive spot instead of Mustafi and Kelly. Quaner is injured and has big competition for his place so maybe try and scout the next best cheap-but-plays striker (options are limited.)

VVD too expensive for the lack of away CS Liverpool keep. Brighton have kept twice as many and can get for near 1m cheaper

Bellerin awful all season. Waste of money. You want now just because he scored last game?

Depends how the rest of your team looks, maybe Mas, then look to downgrade Christensen sometime for a better budget DEF

Yap that's the plan but Chelsea have nice fixtures so might keep both for some few gw's then ship near gw28. The only downside is its for a hit.

A long time member lurker, thought i'd come out of the shadow to ask you to RMT please, i've purposely built the team that is bottom heavy with strong GK, strong Defence and strong(ish) midfield, i'm struggling to find value in the strikers this year hence the selection.

    De Gea/Speroni
    Jones/ Alonso/Davies/Dunk/Wimmer
    Pogba/De Bruyne/Hazard/Sterling/Chupo
    Morata/Murray/Rodriguez

Makes me nerous to have no Kane/Aguero/Lukaku but with Chelseas fixtures looking enticing over the next few weeks it feels like the right thing to do to give Morata a chance again.

Next few weeks planning to ship Davies out and possibly Pogba to Otamendi and Lingard, but i just can't see Lingard's form continuing - i'm in the fluke camp!

Not sure you need to double on united defence, especially if they end up with blank.
I would want better fifth mid with two weak forwards

My thinking with that is Man United look the most likely to keep clean sheets with Mourinho, so if they do i've got two players who are more likely to outscore a mid/low priced striker/Midfield.

I like the look of Chupo's fixtures after this week, especially when we see who the new manager is - they'll be fighting for their lives for the rest of the season and with Chupo being their striker i can see some decent returns.

      Welcome!

I think look at Stones since he is nearly 1m cheaper than Ota if you are looking to save funds when transferring out Davies. I think also you have a bit too much value on the bench: personally I'd rather cheaper alternatives than Rodriguez and Chupo if they are going to sit on the bench most weeks.

I'd also have Salah for Hazard on my radar.

        Thanks Collie!

I'm trying to stick to the principle that i always will have 11 players regardless off last minute drops/suspensions/injuries - the subs all have game time and truly believe Stoke will turn it around especially looking at the next few fixtures.

Good shout with Stones, thanks for that 🙂 I've toyed with Pogba vs Lingard but i think i've missed the boat with Lingard and hopefully Pogba can become my differential.

If i did drop JRod, Chupo down by a million each and had £2 mil extra what you you do?

Salah is definitely on the radar, i do like the look of Chelsea's fixtures and i'm intrigued to see what Liverpool are like post-Coutinho - hopefully not like post-suarez hangover!
