Arsenal began the post-Sanchez era by bouncing back against champions Chelsea to book their Carabao Cup Final place against Man City.

The side has certainly been quick to move on from the departure of their star man, securing a February 25 date with City at Wembley despite conceding an early goal last night when Eden Hazard converted Pedro’s through ball.

Nacho Monreal continued his new-found attacking threat by seeing his effort from a corner bounce in off the unfortunate Antonio Rudiger to level the score before Granit Xhaka poked home the winner when he steered in Alexandre Lacazette’s deflected pass after the break.

Arsenal then held on comfortably enough as a Chelsea team who lost the in-form Willian to a hamstring injury with just 30 minutes on the clock struggled for attacking cohesion.

The victory means that the Gunners and Man City will play each other twice in the space of five days, following up their cup final clash with a league fixture at the Emirates on Thursday, March 1, which will remain part of the Gameweek 28 schedule.

That is subject to change should Pep Guardiola’s side be taken to a FA Cup fifth round replay which, in turn, requires them to win this Sunday’s fourth round tie away at Cardiff City.

There are no such complications for Arsenal, who were knocked out in the third round, and the Carabao Cup now represents their best hope of silverware this season.

But any threat of rotation ahead of the February final looks remote as they will face Spurs in Gameweek 27 a full 15 days before the first match of their Man City double-header.

Instead, coach Arsene Wenger must decide how to deploy his resources in Europe, with the Gunners in action on successive Thursday nights in the Round of 32 of the Europa League before the Cup date with City.

As a result, Arsenal will play four times in ten days from February 22 onwards – Östersunds FK at home, Man City in the cup and then the league and, finally, away at Brighton on the Sunday of Gameweek 29.

Once again, the Gunners’ manager started with a 4-1-2-3 formation but it was his switch to a wing-back set-up after the break that helped the hosts garner momentum.

Having recovered from the hamstring problem that forced him off against Crystal Palace last weekend, Monreal continues to catch the eye.

The Spaniard scored an extraordinary 16 points from just 33 minutes of action against the Eagles, thanks to a goal and two assists. Returning to play the full 90 minutes last night, he’s the third most popular transfer target in FPL over the last 24 hours, acquired by 7,600 new owners.

New signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan was cup-tied last night, while fellow midfielder Aaron Ramsey recovered from illness to take his place on the bench. The Welshman, along with Sead Kolasinac was afforded just six minutes off the bench as the Gunners shut down the tie late on.

With the Sanchez situation now put to bed, back-to-back wins will have boosted the confidence ahead of clashes with Swansea City and Everton, though the subsequent two league fixtures – against Spurs and Man City – means many may steer clear until the schedule turns far kinder in Gameweek 29.

Chelsea, meanwhile, started brightly but tailed off last night, which also adequately describes their season to date.

Deployed as a “false nine”, Hazard confirmed his recent return to form with a third goal in two starts, but Alvaro Morata again missed out with a back injury, and the loss of Willian further reduced their attacking threat.

His replacement, new signing Ross Barkley, failed to make any real impact, while a defence bolstered by the return of Andreas Christensen from a head injury failed to keep a fourth clean sheet in five matches in all competitions.

The Blues’ immediate schedule (BOU wat WBA) suggests shut-outs could well be straight back on the agenda, but the 12.6% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in their teams might not be able to take advantage as the Belgian missed a second successive match with an ankle injury.

The hamstring problem for Willian is another concern, particularly as close to 100,000 managers have made him FPL’s second most popular Gameweek 25 purchase on the back of a 12-point display against Brighton last weekend.

Speaking post-match, Chelsea coach Antonio Conte played down the extent of Willian’s problem.

“I just spoke to the player. He said he felt a problem in his hamstring but he doesn’t think it will be a serious injury. I hope this feeling is right.”

Willian’s 9% FPL ownership will hope so, too.

Should he face a spell on the sidelines, Pedro could be called upon in a 3-4-3 against Bournemouth in Gameweek 25, though much will depend on Morata’s availability. With Chelsea facing Newcastle United in the FA Cup, we should gain further indication as to his approach for Wednesday from Sunday’s line-up.

Being a casual isn't a bad thing my dude. It's great to whip out as an excuse for your rank/move/anything really.

"Why didn't you do the dishes you lazy pile of lard!?"

At the end of the day, what matters is the ranks. Being top 30k the previous 2 seasons is an achievement and not a casual.

So *maybe* those of us who didn’t bank on doubles (wouldn’t consider myself a casual) played the game better in this instance? I backed arsenal after the first leg and now only have my three city players with any chance of a blank.

Does amuse me this. Whatever a "casual" maybe... if they beat you over 38 games because one week turned into a non blanking game week then you have to question whether you are any good at this. You've put more effort in by definition and still lost. Take what comes and make the best decisions you can to get the most points, and if some casuals beat you it may take you from 18.5k to 18.9k. How very terrible!

    Bottomed...

Not sure whether to just consolidate or try something different. Seems I have lots of options (some significantly braver/more 'unorthodox' than others).

    De Gea, Elliot
    Otamendi, Jones, Duffy, Kenny, Kiko*
De Bruyne, Salah, Sterling, Arnautovic*, Loftus-Cheek*
    Kane, Firmino, Depoitre

    1FT, 0.7 ITB

    A. Kiko > Chilwell (needed fixing for ages)
    B. Arnautovic > Walcott/Shaqiri
    C. Otamendi > Alonso (opens up getting Aguero next week)
    D. Kane + De Bruyne > Aguero + Mahrez (-4)
    E. Firmino + De Bruyne > Aguero + Pogba (-4)

      just not getting it.
Watched the Huddersfield game. Stoke okay but Huddersfield are poor - particularly away from home.
Still 1 assist in 9 games.
Not convinced by Stoke forwards. Are there other decent players that he can assist?
He can look pretty on the ball at times but if he doesn't fancy it seems to disappear.
Miss a bandwagon every season maybe it's Shaqiri this year.
It seems to be more about the lack of options in that price bracket.
If Arnie not injured no-one's talking about Shaqiri

Trying not to have too much upheaval. Couple of options - what do you think?

    A) Arnie > Shaq (FT, leaves £1.2itb)
    B) Arnie, Duffy >> Shaq, VVD (-4)
    C) Arnie, Son >> Mahrez, Milijovevic / Ibe (-4, leaves c. £1.9itb)
    D) Something else?

    1FT £0.2itb

    DDG (Elliot)
    Alonso, Otamendi, Ogbonna (Tomkins, Duffy*)
Salah (C), Sterling, Son*, Lingard, Arnie*

Exactly same dilemma here. Mahrez is the new template, so both pros and cons going without him... only pros if you nail a better differential though, which I guess is where Sanchez comes into play.

Personally I'd want to see how Sanchez fits into the United team – is he going to be the 2 goals, 1 assist guy or the 1-2 assist guy? In that price bracket I can't accept anything but the former...

This mass hysteria with Shaqiri here is extremely nice 😉 He probably may double the passes and make 10x more goals than he has during past 8 matches, but that simply is not enough.

It will be fun to see people here complaining about his returns and lol them by saying "I told You so". Then people will say "You could not know it before" 😉

Yeah I think he is potentially back in time to face Leicester. Knowing Kane, he'd punish me anyway if I took him out.

          Looks like he will
Miss the next three league games from every report I’ve read (Kun owner, vested interest). Back after the Leicester game so (if you were inclined) simple swap Kane to Kun and back again for 28. FWIW I wouldn’t, but I own both so it’s easy to say that

That would be more my intention - Kane - Kun for a few then back again.
It's whether or not it pays off. Cheers for the feedback.

Feels like I have to ship Kane to avoid a hit, then a waste of two FTs to get Kane back... tempted but no

I think GW27 might be gold to catch a new (potential) trend of Arsenal Spurs and Burnley good fixtures if you're loaded up on City, Chelsea and West Ham

    Any mods about?
I think a members only comment section could prove wonderful, has this been done before perhaps?
We could directly discuss stats and there would be less of a swarm of RMTs (due to the actual RMT tool) hence more useful info.

Yeah I’ve mentioned it over the years but to no avail. Some called it elitist, which is a bit silly. I just want to talk stats without having to go about is in such a long winded manner.

It's a sound business decision Mark imo. I for one am not a member as don't feel the members articles significantly improves what I already get from here. Members discussions would probably change that albeit understand unlikely all non members have same requirements as I do.

Lots of plans to change how HC works, including looking again at voting as a means of promoting/relegating threads on a page. If we do include the facility for Members only discussions, they will likely be HT threads posted by mods to begin with. It's an interesting concept to try. I wouldn't want to have to exclusive comment boards for members though, that would be too much of a split.

            4. MTPockets
                8 years, 1 month ago

Could you trial it by making a members-content article comments closed to non members?
I find the greatest discussion limiter to be the forum format (rolling posts) rather than post content tbh.

Main thing for me is that the forums are great, but more and more just same questions asked over and over again. Which is maybe fine for some, but the more you use it the more those questions become annoying and therefore a members discussion forum would likely clean things up a bit.

                  1. MTPockets
                      8 years, 1 month ago

That's been the case for a long time, and doesn't bother me as did/do the same sometimes.
But don't think even hot topics particularly lend themselves to specific debate, as lost too quickly to the past (ie. even if I find and take interest in a HT, often the case that everybody else has moved on by then/missed it).

Maybe not a members section as such but how about locking down the comments section to the members articles to having only members posting (also make sure the image doesnt give anything away)

That way the non members can read the short snippet and think damn I should be a memebr and the member have an article to talk and comment on the data in the article

Martial seems to be a great option - but Sanchez will push him out of position to the right possibly and Martial won't get as many balls to shoot with Sanchez in the team.

Would wait a week to see how Sanchez goes into Utd side.
Lingard keeps his place and Sanchez could be a big help to his pts.
Just make the defensive move. But keep an eye on Alonso to see if starts in Cup - he looks knackered even that Brighton right-back gave him a right runaround.

Agreed. I don’t have the funds for an Azpilicueta or Alonso without taking hits to bring one in. I like both options. With CL thought Klopp has already said that VVD won’t play every game.

Yes I think so. The Arsenal Clean Sheets dried up right after Monreal got injured. And they conceded last weekend after he was subbed. I think he is a GREAT option right now.

I have no idea I'm taking the piss 😀 I'm a Woking class Aussie convict what would I know. I do love food though and used to work in some quality Italian kitchens

Errrr yeah. How much do you want to spend? Alternatively make the short trip to Hammersmith and come and see me at The Anglsea Arms.

                  is that a pub?
I don't have limit on what I spend on food, if the quality of the food is worth it I will pay.
I don't have food snobbery though, I don't go to places just cause some pretentious reviewer says I should. I prefer real people giving me their opinion

McDonald's do some great high end burgers and gourmet salads. It's byo alcohol but they have a policy that you need to decant it into a Coke can before bringing it in.

The wine guy in it pours his wine in to a soda cup in the movie whilst in a burger joint. Brilliant and sad.

When I drop Kane before GW25 deadline, Salah will be the only survivor from my GW1 team still in the squad. He doesnt look like leaving my team anytime soon though....

Tempted by the following moves over next 2 GWs

              Arnie > Choupo-Moting
              Then:
Otamendi and Pogba > Chilwell and Sanchez(c)

              Would give me:

              DDG
              Alonso, VVD, Chilwell
              Sanchez(c), Salah, Sterling, CM
              Kane, Firmino, Wilson

              Elliot, Ibe, Masuaku, Dummett

                Good team, No hits?
one week enough to gauge Sanchez impact? Pogba should also benefit in that line up.

Would be over 2 GWs for a -4 but captain Sanchez at Huddersfield. May go Allen instead of CM to give me some £ ITB just in case...

              Eriksen + Foster --> Sane + Schmeichel (-4)

              Do it now?
