With only two more rounds of fixtures to go,the race for the top six spots intensifies.  Before we look ahead to Matchweek 18 lets find out how the previous set of matches played out.

Matchweek 17 Review

Full results can be found here.

Fashanu Zealand convincingly beat Mozampique in what was the most anticipated game of the week. The win puts Fashanu Zealand in second spot with 33 points and almost secure of a  knockout berth. Mozampique on the other hand,s uffered a sixth straight defeat which leaves them with two must-win games to enter the knockouts. What a turnaround it’s been for the Mozzie’s!!!

Talking of turnarounds, the biggest one of the tournament so far goes to Hungary Neville. With a single win after five match weeks, they were reeling at the bottom half of the table. What followed was eleven wins in the next twelve games and they now find themselves at the top of the table, with a knockout spot almost guaranteed.

Afghanistanislas, Reussia and Ibeland all had a golden opportunity to inch one step closer to the knockouts, but ended up losing. Kenyaya and Balegium suffered similar fate.

Bolivia Giroud,Messidonia and Grabbangladesh registered very important victories.

The teams in the bottom half of the table may have lost the opportunity to make the playoffs, but they are fulfilling the role of party-pooper admirably.

Matagascar beat Afghanistanislas, by a whooping 80 points, Gaboniadini beat Russia and  Mbokani Faso beat Kenyaya.

Salahmon Island’s one point loss to Georgia Boyd has to be one of the games of the tournament so far.

Matchweek 17 Awards

Jarvish of FNZ walks away with the Manager of the Week after picking a ‘perfect’ team.

Team of the Week

Walkman666(Hungary Neville) – 73 pts

Korbendallas82(Hungary Neville) – 73 pts

Sigurdsson Kane(Qubit) of Team Germane is the Player of the Week.

Post of the Week for the millionth time goes to Lord of Salmon Islands.

Matchweek 18 Preview

There are just six spots and 11 teams have a realistic chance of making it. We are looking forward to a great two weeks of action.

Two of the top three scoring teams of the past GW will battle it out this week. You're going down, Hungary Neville! You won't have an answer to our unconventional methods.

Btw, I enjoyed Buda and Pest. Bolivia has a reputation as being the world's least friendly tourist destination for some reason. It's not entirely true - come visit Salar de Uyuni amid the Andes, it's spellbinding. We'll show you around and introduce you to some indigenous groups next time (it's strictly business this weekend). We may be away from home but I hope we have the support of the rest of the league.

As Couti & the Below5th would put it:

    "Na, na, na, na,
    na-na-na naaa,
    na-na-na naaa…

    Bolivia Giroud!"

    Good luck. 🙂

The only way we’d be going down is if the tie was in La Paz and we’d had a heavy Friday night in Route 36 😉 Fortunately for us, the tie is at home so it’s our usual pre match meal of goulash with a glass of Palinka. We’re a friendly nation, so must apologise in advance for our upcoming victory, which would secure our place in the Semi’s and probably kill your chances of making the KO’s.

The sun is shining in the Salahmon Islands, and everyone is in a party mood for the final home match in our first season in the big leagues. Having learned the hard way that hallucinogenic products and Kava are not the best pre-match preparations, except in Mozampique, we kept doing it anyway, and now all the best FPL squads have a bit of Salah at their heart.

On the beach the vendors are doing a roaring trade with the PVC products we boosted in Gotham City, and DVDs of Sune's night on the tiles with Catwoman. Hopefully it should raise enough to pay the final instalment of Grenwind101million's transfer fee.

The natives are also eager to welcome Kenya and their famous leader. They've been learning the lines to the YaYa chant all week - they're still struggling with the 2nd verse - and have even baked a cake in case there's a birthday coming up. Hopefully, with all this love they won't notice us parking the bus.

With the squad depleted by AWOL members still pouting about the failure to secure transfer window moves, and with Sune now embarking on an extensive penicillin treatment, Boris' rotation plans are in shreds, and I get a final chance to shine. The full line-up is:

    Torreslove (C)
    Greenwindmill
    Boris
    Knuckles
    Swanmoretime
    Rjcv177
    Lord

    Let the party commence.

Very rough workings out but a decent guide here:

          HN + 25

          Elliot (Pickford)
          Ogbonna x 3, Simpson x 2, Bauer x 2, Dunk, Azpi
          Sanchez x 2, Pogba x 2, Lingard, Shaqiri x 2, Fraser, Son, Mane, Doucoure
          Wilson x 4, Ayew, Crouch
          --------------------------------------------------

          BG

          Adrian x 2, Begovic
Duffy x 3, Chillwell, Maguire, Shawcross, Wimmer,
          Mbemba (Kenny) x 2, Mustafi x 2, Trippier, Vertongen
          Walcott x 5, Ibe x 2, Gross x 2, Albrighton x 2, Choupo, Allen, Mkhitaryan, Alli, Salah, I
          Kane x 7, Firmino x 3

It's looking good for you guys. We had 6 Agueros and 2 KDB's plus our Captain has Jones and Pogba. We need Wilson to smash it as look at all your Kanes and Firminos tomorrow, not to mention Walcott x 5 later.

You lot have cruised it. Can't see us winning from here. Here's the update:

              Son, Mane,
              Azpi, Alonso, Doucoure

Still really close. It could go either way if Kane and Firmino blank tomorrow.

                This is what I have:

                HN

                Elliot (Pickford)
                Mane, Son
                Alonso, Azpilicueta, Doucoure
                --------------------------------------------------

                BG + 3

                Mbemba (Kenny)
Salah, Firmino x 3, Kane x 7, Alli, Vertonghen, Trippier

I wish I shared your optimism on it being close. Appearance points alone would put yous 20 odd points ahead, then we’d be relying on every single one of your lot not doing anything whilst one or both of Mane/Son to score and then Chelsea to keep a cleanie. I must admit though, you’ve made me more hopeful than I was. Good luck, the whole league is cheering you 🙂

      Here's my calculation

      Messidonia - 137. 3 Kane,2 Azpi, Bobby

      Balegium - 129. 4 Alonso,2 Richarlison,2 Salah,3 Son,Robertson, Mariappa, Milivojevic
We have the numbers, you have Harry.
Luckily for us,your WC captain didn't work. 🙂

None of our teams are doing good (yet) this week... I’ll have to take another look at the remaining players and see if you’re right. Thought we had an extra Hazard left.

Your numbers and remaining players look legit. Alonso red card and own goal would be lovely.

        Messi - 2 Azpi
        Bale - 25 points + 4 Alonso + 2 Richarlison + Mariappa
Very important win for us. 🙂
        Hard luck Messi's.

    FNZ looking good I think............

Assuming an Elliott no-show, by my calculations........

    Germane = 16pts + Robertson (0 if a no-show); Courtois
    FNZ = Firmino x 3, Gomez, Salah, Kane x 2, Son x 2; Alonso x 2

Looks like you’re back on top on total FPL points.

Kenyaya edging it 165-152 with the following differentials:

Salahs: Kane (2), Alli (2), Zaha, Azpilicueta, Moses and Hennessey
Yayas: Alonso (4), Salah (3), Firmino, Hazard and Mariappa.

I can't be bothered working it out but both moza and Georgia look bang average scores. Nobody had anyone scoring well yesterday.

    * BG had 7 x Kanes. If that 2nd pen missed, we'd only be 8 behind. Well played lads, good game.

Cheers mate. Looking good for us to auto qualify for the Semi’s. Even if we lose, Ibeland have to beat our score by 111+ points. FNZ basically through too. The battle for the remaining 4 play off places looks like it could be very interesting.
