The league stage of the Community Watch tournament came to a end last time out. Here we look back at Matchweek 19’s key events and ahead to the knockout phase.

Matchweek 19 Review

Full results and final League table can be found here.

Bolivia Giroud, Afghanistanislas,Ibeland and Messidonia join FNZ and Hungary Neville in the knockout stages.

Grabbangladesh,Kenyaya,Balegium and Reussia missed out after losing their respective MW 19 games.

Afghanistanislas absolutely thrashed Grabbangladesh in a virtual knockout game, with a scoreline of 731-560. This was also the biggest win of the tournament so far. The win couldn’t secure third place for them though. That was snatched by Bolivia Giroud with their fourth consecutive win, against Salahmon Islands by 12 points.

Ibeland lost to Emre Canada by 32 points, but still got through to the knockouts, securing fifth position.

Going into Matchweek 19, Messidonia needed a number of results to go their way to progress. Incredibly, all these scenarios fell into place, with their 720-671 win over Hungary Neville seeing them through after Kenyaya lost to Gaboniadini by 39 points, Balegium lost to Mbokani Faso by 10 points and Georgia Boyd beat Reussia but by a mere two points.

Elsewhere, Blindia finished the tournament on a high, beating Mozampique by 88 points. The win wasn’t enough for them though, as they take the wooden spoon ,finishing bottom of the table.

Knockouts Preview

The knock out matches take place in Gameweek 28.

Bolivia Giroud vs Messidonia
Afghanistanislas vs Ibeland

Losers will get knocked out, while the winners join FNZ and Hungary Neville in the semifinals, which are to be played in Gameweek 29.

The deadline for submitting your line-up and captain is 24th February FPL deadline time.

If you have any queries or questions, you can ask us in the comments section below or by sending us an email to fantasycommunitywatch@gmail.com

The real skill is qualifying in 3rd place for the cup with a -36 goal difference.

We've all been there, qualifying to the next stage in a H2H league by finishing 1st and thinking we've won it (the league). 😉

In all seriousness, very well done! You've been super consistent, well done on finishing top of the league. 🙂

Thanks, on behalf of my teammates. We are trying to control the narrative, it's true, but in fairness this knock-out stage was a matter of moved goalposts. Initially it was about winning the league, so we're claiming that. We'll win the knock-outs too. 🙂

Tbf, once we knew there was going to be was a KO stage. We turned our attention to that. We was even aware that finishing 2nd, may even result in an easier semi, as 1st would likely play 3rd. Even in the last round, our only aim was to avoid Ibeland outscoring us by 111 points, which may have pushed us down into a play off spot. We scouted Ibeland and selected a team which would block their differentials gaining ground, much like a single player going into gw38 and blocking his/her nearest rival. We successfully achieved this aim and look forwards to winning the competition 🙂

I'm just going to leave it to the court of public opinion whether people/teams really play for second when they think they could have first. We never thought about anything but finishing on the top of the table.

And it's absolutely crazy that finishing second could be an advantage over finishing first, and if it's true the organizers have something to reflect on.

I really hope we end up in the final against each other--it would be only just. And if you win, well done to you. 🙂

              8 years, 6 months ago

I should add, that even if we won our last game, your superior total score, would easily have left you guys in first anyway. So not much of a difference in fairness. Well done on winning the league but the real prize is yet to be decided. As you say, meeting in the final would be rather fitting but I guess the 2 playing this week will have something to say about that 🙂

Been good fun. And very consistent performance from the organizers. Big props!

Found myself taking a -8 this week to set my team up for the semi's next week - gotta take advantage of having a bye to the next round I suppose 🙂

We're bringing this trophy home to the island no matter who gets in our way. After topping the league it's somewhat precious to us. In a way, our own.

      Our precioussssssss.

Brilliant tournament. Will miss it when it’s all over. Been lucky to have such a great team of different styles of play and thinking. Honestly, a real good bunch of lads too. All in the the WhatsApp group and maintaining excellent communication throughout.

I even met a team mate, Walkman666 (great guy!) In New York (where he lives) over Christmas and watched some Boxing Day football over a beer. That was surreal, waking up to a Kane brace then seeing him get the hatty, then going for Lunch with a guy who I never would have crossed paths with, if it wasn’t for FFS and this tournament.

Another 2 team mates, KrulRunning and GBPearce even met in Adelaide, Australia and had a beer together after KR flew over to watch the Ashes. Spencer (FFS mod) and his wife are expecting a baby soon and KR is getting married tomorrow...
So they say good things come in threes, a wedding, a baby and a Championship (hopefully).

So thanks to all the organisers for all the hard work you guys put in, all the Captains, especially ours, LeGod and everyone else involved. It’s been great fun.

The number of Salah captains cancels out in both team with 6 Salah captainers in both teams (including the captains of both teams)
Same goes for Kane with one Kane captainer in each team

Messidonia got one extra hit so Bolivia is technically leading by 4 points now 😀
Looks like the game will be down to the differentials

Mods, please delete the one above. Thanks.

This is how I have Messidonia v Bolivia Giroud after a count (happy to be corrected if there are any errors):

    Messidonia: 293 (+6)

    Hennessey

    Hazard X2, Alonso, Azpilicueta

    De Bruyne X2

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Bolivia Giroud: 287

    Kane, Eriksen, Alli, Davies, Vertonghen

    De Gea X2

Sterling X2, Otamendi X2, Mkhitaryan, Mustafi, Monreal, Ederson, Aguero

We have the numerical advantage but it's likely to go right down to the wire.

Just a note to add, Daniels has now officially been given a 0 instead of a 1. This means Messidonia's advantage is +3 instead of +6 (they have 4 Daniels', we have 1).

Messidonia vs Bolivia Giroiud Preliminary Scores:-

    Messidonia - 295 + Alonso, Azpi, Hennessey, Hazard(2), KDB(2)
Bolivia Giroud - 289 + Sterling, Ederson, Vertonghen, Monreal, Alli, Mustafi, Mkhi, Eriksen, DDG(2) Otamendi(2)

Looking very difficult for Messidonia to pull this back given the sheer number of players left for Bolivia. Need a Hazard & KDB special and there maybe some hope.
