Liverpool stroll past Watford 5-0 as Mohamed Salah single-handedly ensures a bumper haul for most Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers despite Gameweek 31’s reduced schedule.

The Egyptian was captained by 1.9 million (33.8%), 93 of the top 100 FPL managers and, as revealed by Ragabolly in his new article, 88.8% of the top 10,000.

A further 20,137 used their Triple Captain chip on him – 77.8% of the 25,883 played.

All that backing paid off as Salah delivered a first hat-trick in a Liverpool shirt, with four goals in total (from four shots), an assist and maximum bonus points bringing in a season’s best tally – by any player – of 29 points.

The records he’s accruing stretch ever further.

He’s now scored or assisted in 13 of his 15 home starts this season (17 goals and six assists), netted in his last six home Gameweeks (11 goals) and produced 14 double-figure scores in all.

For all these reasons, even without a double Gameweek to come, Salah surely has to be retained by all bar the bravest of managers.

Liverpool’s fixtures (cry eve BOU wba STK che BHA) are certainly strong enough to support more Salah hauls, but the situation is not so clear-cut for Liverpool’s other attackers.

More than 531,000 managers brought in either Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane ahead of today’s deadline and both delivered.

The latter produced two assists for Salah, both somewhat fortunate as the main man did most of the work to score from them, but it was a fourth successive Gameweek of returns from Mane nonetheless.

Firmino, meanwhile, was denied a first-half strike by a smart Orestis Karnezis save, but got his goal with an audacious flick from Salah’s cross after the break.

The Brazilian now has three goals and two assists from the last five starts, but he is arguably now disposable as managers move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy ahead of their forthcoming double Gameweeks.

That trio are already among the top four most bought ahead of Gameweek 32, although Firmino is currently right behind them in fifth.

Firmino and Mane’s form could also have a bearing on those pondering the Gameweek 32 or 33 Wildcard.

Liverpool go to Palace next and have three of the next four away from Anfield.

Firmino has three goals and two assists from his last six away trips. Indeed, two goals and an assist have arrived over his last three, with the recent defeat at Manchester United his only blank in that run.

Mane has been less productive – he has just a single goal and two assists from his last six appearances on the road. That last strike away from home came back in Gameweek 22 at Burnley.

The other factor to consider is that Liverpool face their Champions League Quarter Final with Manchester City four days after the trip to Palace, with the second leg to follow the Merseyside derby in Gameweek 33. Rotation has not been a concern when considering the Liverpool front three for several months, but this period will certainly be a test for Klopp’s resolve in that respect.

Elsewhere, those managers who didn’t solely invest in the Liverpool front three enjoyed a clean sheet – the side’s 13th of the season – from the likes of Virgil van Dijk and the excellent Andrew Robertson, who boosted his reputation with a superb cross for Salah’s second goal.

That was the full-back’s second assist in four Gameweeks, although there was no such joy for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 3.9% ownership as Joe Gomez returned to the starting line-up after a five-match absence.

Even Robertson’s first double-digit haul of the season is unlikely to save him, or any of his backline colleagues, as managers look for defenders with double Gameweeks to potentially boost their returns.

Substitute Danny Ings set up the final goal on a record-breaking FPL day when many managers ended up with 100+ points from just the four matches played.

You could downgrade Silva to lets say, Stanislas and that would give you some breathing room. On the one hand, I'm really scared of Pep rotating like a madman, but on the other hand I really want City coverage but have no idea who to get.

Guys have a day to think about your Wildcard. Don’t go rushing into something you haven’t full thought through just for 0.1/0.2m.

I’m still in debate on how many Pool players I’ll have. Last thing I want is to panic and Wildcard them out when I’ve got money tied.

    1. Yozzer

Keep salah and Bobby. If you wc now you can play mane or a pool def then lose them for 34 with 2ft

      1. Athletic Nasherbo
        • 9 Years
        8 years, 4 months ago

So you mean keeping the 3 attackers until 34 then remove Mane?

I’m debating whether I should go Lukaku or Firmino. Would change the squad dramatically with the difference in price.

Yer. If you want to hold pool till the DGW just wc this week then save the transfer the gw after

I may not if fixtures don't fall kindly. There could be a change in my strategy.

Something I’m concerned with. Keep an eye on player rises though. If it’s getting excessive with players you want then take the risk.

    4. Ibracadabra
      • 17 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

Disagree completely. Each situation depends on your unique team. I have Walcott, Baines, J. Kenny, Chuopo Moting, Mounie, Foster, Courtois, and to a lesser extent Ogbonna, Stanislas, etc. who I want to sell + 8m in bank (Kane to Mounie this past gameweek). Very happy to play it regardless of announcements, which will definitely come in the next few days. Can react and change if need be then, but don't want 5-10 of those players anyway for 32 and beyond, so makes sense for me to play it now. Value/risers is just a bonus.

What if all the GW 31 fixtures go into GW 37 making GW 37 the bigger DGW?

You'll have to carry those DGW 37 players for so many GWs to get a good BB. Injury/Rotation will happen. Better to WC in GW 36 in that case.

        1. Ibracadabra
          • 17 Years
          8 years, 4 months ago

Who cares. I will know that before GW32 (2 weeks now). I will be able to handle it with 5 gameweeks to go. In my situation I need to sell the likes of Baines, Kenny, Francis, Walcott, Choupo Moting, Courtois, Foster, etc. It's a no brainer for me, but each situation is different.

116 is great this week but you still can't say free hitters have or haven't done well. Even looking at the active avg with hits is too simplistic cause you'd only be looking at this gameweek. We might only know which week worked out best after gw 37...

Free hitters have done well this week. At no point have I ever said it was the best approach. That is incredibly difficult to accurately measure.

For all those moaning about poor players in poor teams and not wanting to spend FT's on them, I think this game week as shown why the FHC is perfect for precisely this scenario.

I know you didn't say it was the best approach but even saying that they've done well is a bit premature based on all the non FH 100+ scores flying around, who knows if the fixtures fall in a certain way maybe 35 could be just as perfect... Think we should leave it to Ragabolly and his mad skills to confirm either way 😉

Any non free hitter would've had a poor week last week, surely? And what about the Shaqiri owners?

Milivoyevic, Robertson, Tosun would've been the ones to have if not free hitting. but for every team with those 3 there must have been loads more with the wrong combination.

Kane injured, Walcott and King a doubt, Shaqiri a doubt.. there must be been quite a few hits taken.

Did not use free hit. Still got 98 points.

But my cousin, who's two seats above me in my ML, got 120 without FHC.

How did he do last week? And how many points hits did he make this week (if any)?

No hits, 2FTs. Got returns on 8 out of 11.

          Last week, really bad. 36.

          I got 37.

But both of us will make up for it by FHC in 35 to maximize that week ^^

Everyone had an average week last week and I took no hits and got 106 Pts this week, would have been more if I kept my transfer as Tosun. I think the FC users have been very unlucky this week due to the lack of captain choices and one man, I'm not going to complain but us who have used our FH chip may have got away with it or just maybe that's the way this chip will go. When I used mine, I lost points.....

Is the amount of Wildcards messing up the price rises? Or are they accurate? Really appreciate help.

Actually keeping for Stan for 32,33 not the worst idea tbh. Considering it. Swapping for DGW player after.

Same here, hopefully I don't miss out on Barnes returns though (I'll be benching him)

I'd be getting Ayew in and benching him for those two gameweeks. But obviously only if Swansea have double in 34. Barnes not a bad option though.

Somehow, I had 11 players who all started and played almost all their games this week, had Salah captain, scored 41 more than the average, but got a red arrow.

    Ridiculous week
