We check in with Gameweek 31 for the last time now, assessing the latest player, team and talking point to catch our attention.

Mohamed Salah’s relentless quest for Fantasy Premier League points gathers pace as Liverpool’s form has many thinking twice over parting company with their key assets.

Meanwhile, we offer our final word on the Gameweek 31 Free Hit chip in light of Saturday’s reduced set of fixtures.

The Player

So much Fantasy faith was pinned on Mohamed Salah and Liverpool’s attack to deliver over Gameweek 31’s four matches.

Yet even the Egyptian managed to surpass our lofty expectations with an extraordinary display against Javi Gracia’s hapless Watford.

A sublime first season at Anfield stepped into the realms of the ridiculous as Salah ran riot against the Hornets, delivering a season-high tally of 29 points thanks to four goals and an assist.

With seven Gameweeks remaining, his tally of 266 points has already surpassed last season’s top scoring player, Alexis Sanchez, who returned 264 points in his final full campaign at Arsenal.

That’s better than Riyad Mahrez’s 240 points on his way to finishing first in Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 campaign. It also eclipses the career-high tallies of the likes of Eden Hazard (233 points), Harry Kane (224 points) and Sergio Aguero (216 points).

One of only five players to produce more than 6.0 points per match (ppm) this term, Salah’s average of 8.9ppm is well clear of second-placed Aguero (7.0).

Indeed, with just one top-eight opponent remaining (cry eve BOU wba STO che BHA), the only surprise would now be if he fails to add to his 14 sets of double-digits and breach the 300-point mark come the end of the campaign.

The Team

After suffering a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford, Liverpool bounced back emphatically to help FPL managers to a bumper Gameweek.

The 5-0 victory over Watford also saw Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the points again, while at the back, the Reds delivered a thirteenth clean sheet of the campaign – just two less than the best defences, Man United and City, with fifteen apiece.

At a point when many are now eyeing up Wildcards to profit from the impending double Gameweeks, Salah’s ability to score big – and consistently do so – now surely makes him undroppable, regardless of the Reds’ lack of a double Gameweek.

Although many are keen to show Mane and Firmino the door, Klopp’s side served a timely reminder that getting rid doesn’t come without risk.

Saturday’s romp now means that Liverpool have scored three or more goals on 15 occasions – seven times at home and eight away showcases their consistency.

Firmino, meanwhile, has earned bonus in 11 of the 12 league matches he has scored in. As well as firing a hat-trick past Porto in the Champions League, Mane has hit his most consistency Fantasy form of the season, producing points in each of the last four Gameweeks.

Should Klopp’s men continue to rack up the goals and buck the growing exodus, those without Wildcards could profit if they keep faith in the Reds’ front three for those favourable remaining matches.

The Talking Point

This season’s first set of Gameweek postponements persuaded many – almost half a million managers – to unleash their Free Hit chip for Gameweek 31.

Although just four matches took place, Salah’s huge haul helped Free Hit chip managers average a hefty 95.5 points, gaining just over a 25-point margin on their rivals (70.1).

However, that margin could, and should, have been greater – only 80.6% of them decided to captain Salah.

On Sunday, Ragabolly’s look into the impact of the Gameweek 31 Free Hit chip also pointed out that planning for this round of fixtures cost, on average, a further three points for rivals.

Essentially, then, over 444,000 FPL managers chose the Free Hit chip as a means of navigating Gameweek 31’s four matches, with a lofty 94.7% earning a climb in ranking.

While that clearly can be chalked up as an undoubted success, it’s also worth pointing out that, despite just four fixtures taking place, Salah was the only player in the most transferred in XI for Gameweek 31 to claim double-digits.

Six others – James Tomkins, Andrew Robertson, Junior Stanislas, Jordon Ibe, Luka Milivojevic and Cenk Tosun – achieved this but were largely ignored.

Granted, while Stanislas and Tosun both went into the weekend in fine form, the likes of Tomkins, Robertson, Ibe and Milivojevic all chose the perfect time to deliver season-high returns.

While that only serves to highlight the unpredictability of such occasions, it’s worth bearing in mind that Liverpool were the only top-eight team in action in Gameweek 31.

Those retaining Free Hit chips will be hoping that Gameweek 35 is a little easier to pinpoint the key names and big scorers, with the Merseysiders, Man City and Arsenal all set for favourable fixtures in the six-match slate.

Updated my plan since Smalling will be in risk when Jones return, end up with this

    Currently on WC

    Will play 3-4-3 until DGW;

    Ederson(GW32) | Courtois (GW33)
    Monreal | Smalling | Mee
    Son | Salah | Willian | Mahrez
    Firmino | Auba | Vardy

Then will do 3 transfers (-8) at GW34
    Firmino, Vardy, Mee to Ayew, Lukaku, Jones/Smalling and will end up ;

    Ederson | Courtois
    Monreal | Smalling/Jones | Alonso | Van der Hoorn | Morgan
    Son | Salah | Willian | Mahrez | Ki
    Ayew | Lukaku | Auba

    Anything needs to be reconsidered?

    Thanks!

Correction : Smalling is Alonso in 3-4-3

      Ederson(GW32) | Courtois (GW33)
      Monreal | Alonso | Mee
      Son | Salah | Willian | Mahrez
      Firmino | Auba | Vardy

Yeah same about the non double week defender. I don't like doubling but there is a double double to be had! might be worth the risk with Jones' legs made of wet tissue paper

      🙂

Monreal most nailed than Mustafi too? Kola is there and Mustafi surely best cb of the lot for naildness?

Going to bring in Vardy instead of Firmino. Will save .8m and Vardy is on pens and has 2 extra games over the rest of the season (will probably bring Firmino for bgw35 free hit).

Be hard for Firmino to outscore him in 2 less games imo.

It's something to ponder for sure. Not hugely keen on the Mahrez Vardy double up though...(if one has Mahrez)

He only has one game less. Currently have both with Aubameyang but can’t make up my mind. Want Lukaku for 34 also.

      1. The Rock
        • 16 Years
        7 years, 11 months ago

Yes only 1 game less if you don't have your free hit. But you could bring in Firmino on your free hit or for a transfer for gameweek 35 and that would mean Vardy will have 2 extra games, 1 in each of his DGWs.

    3. Zladan
      • 8 Years
      7 years, 11 months ago

I just pulled the trigger on that. Saved me just 0.4m as I had Firmino since 8.5m. But would take 2 more Firmino rises to make any more SV on him, so no point waiting and missing out on Vardy rise.

Yeah he’s in superb form but I don’t want a Mahrez and Vardy double up. If I get Mahrez who is more expensive than most my midfield, I also need to find more cash to upgrade Vardy to Lukaku. I can’t see a way around it I like.

Ideally I’d go Lukaku and Mahrez over Silva and Vardy but need to find around 2.0 for that.

Under the standard DGW fixture scenario, every time I try alternative WC setups I find that Schmeichel (5.0) is a great option, yet I haven't seen him mentioned anywhere. Nailed, great fixtures through the end of the season and relatively cheap compared to Lloris, De Gea and Courtois. I'd be pairing him with Fabianski. Not sold on Ryan or other less expensive keepers. Anything glaringly obvious that I'm missing?

the likes of Firmino Salah & Mane can outscore most DGW players in a single game , also DGW's can be a trap with squad rotation due to the games been so close together , everyone who triple captained Kane for his DGW can attest to that

Form is tremendous plus, have a game week 35. Also with Bournemouth (h) in 34 he could outscore a lot of double week players.

I’m monitoring how many minutes he plays for Brazil in friendlies as could have a bearing on his rotation risk for Liverpool with a lot of games upcoming.

Not sure about any of them.

When Jones is fit, who plays? Is Chilwell nailed?

I think it should be purposely ignored on here, with no new articles.

I am enjoying the question being constantly asked, and will miss it greatly.

He's been performing well yes, but he's been rotated anyway

Why are there a lot of people not tempted by DSilva? Scores and assists for fun, good form recently... maybe not as goal-minded as sterling/sane, but I'd say he is likely more nailed to play, even if they win the league soon... surely it's just pure speculation that he'll be flying back to spain more? i heard his son is okay

Are people preferring Silva to Sterling because of WC budget or seen as more nailed?

If both were same price would be 100% Sterling and still think he's the best, most attacking option myself. Is it price, rotation or knee jerking?

price primarily for me, and probably more nailed imo too. more essential to how they play. I see sterling being rotated with bilva in the league to be saved for CL more than i see it happening with dilva and gundogan, for example.

agree sterling is more of a goal threat though

I am frankly terrified by the English goalkeeper and centre back options.

Butland is best gk pick for me, but not a lot of great options.

I used to think Butland was good but something strange going on with him. I'm not sure we have any good enough keepers to be honest.

Plenty of solid shot stoppers there.

      Pickford
      Walker Stones Jones Cahill Rose
      Dier Wilshire
      Sterling Alli Rashford
      Kane

Nearing the final WC team now:

    DDG Fabianski
    Smalling Christensen Lowton Chilwell VDH
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian King
    Lukaku Vardy Auba

    £0.4m itb.

Save the dinero for Kane/unforeseen injuries? Or invest in upgrading?

(Note: King is my preferred fodder for DGW BB use only - not interested in upgrading him in the slightest).

If money didn’t matter, would Alonso, Valencia and Monreal be your top picks at the back?

Possible rotation is the issue, so I'd probably stick with Valencia. I just wonder if Monreal could be rotated too.

Guys, I've finished my groom speech where I'm getting married next month but still not happy with my opening joke about my father in law who is an Arsenal fan. He will be starting the speeches and then it's my speech, I want to put something like this but just doesn't sound right:

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, firstly I would like to thank my brand new father in law, Lee, for his kind words, most people won’t know this but Lee is a big Arsenal know fan, so it we did think long and hard about placing his speech in fourth spot for today’s proceedings…
Firstly, I would like to welcome you all here today and thank you so much for being with us to celebrate this very special occasion blah blah blah"

    Can anyone help?

Say you were going to put him in fourth spot, but now he doesn't even make the top 6. Simple, no? You could even joke that someone else is a priority to speak ahead of him. Someone rubbish, like a 4 year-old bridesmaid or someone from an area where a top-6 team is based who isn't even related to the bride or groom (and doesn't even necessarily support the team in the first place).

I've seen a lot of opinions so looking for more on this matter for our WC teams:

    A) Play Firmino until 34 then > Lukaku
    B) Put Lukaku in from the start

I'm obviously looking for a WC team that will allow me to save my FT in 33 and go into 34 with 2 FT (pending any injuries).

    What is everyone's thoughts?

      I’m going A.

If Utd were firing then I would be getting Lukaku in now but the form and team spirit is bad
