Following an exceptionally high scoring second round there are now no former winners left in our open-to-all Fantasy Premier League Cup competition.

All four ex-champions to survive the first round departed at the second stage, which took place during Gameweek 31’s limited set of fixtures.

Reigning champion TH14 was seen off 85-82 by Ilovebaps , A Manager Has No Name was beaten 107-100 by horlicks esq, MCH succumbed to The dinkum donuts 82-78 and Wild Rover failed to overcome Gloria Kanchelskis in their 86-81 clash.

Despite just four matches taking place in Gameweek 31, there were 41 managers who returned a minimum of 100 points.

The second round’s highest scoring was dmcqt. He notched 128 points, rockets from 28,412nd to 7,475th in the overall rankings and earns a round three encounter with 232,058-placed The Brown Casanova.

Despite dipping ten places overall to 48th, thisisdiz remains the highest ranked manager. Norman conquest (rank 69,117) is the unfortunate manager to draw this high-flyer in the third round.

Another notable round three match up is 7,845-ranked hwhite94’s tie with the competition’s second-highest placed manager, Always Captain Kun, who is in 63rd spot.

Elsewhere, 43,939-ranked 2 Girls 1 Shlup’s giant killing skills will be put to test once again, when he meets 1,561st ranked Dharmabum. He made it through to the third round by defeating FFScout’s 3,941-placed tech guru matzi11a in the second round and after seeing off former champion Gooner Dave in round one.

The full second round results can be found here, while the third round draw can be found here.

Arsenal fans... What chances do Mustafi and Monreal have of being rotated in the PL? Prefer Monreal but hearing he will rotate

As an Arsenal fan it appears our prefered defense is:
      Monreal LB
      Kos CB
      Mustafi CB
      Bellerin RB
So those players will be rested if we continue to progress in Europe.

I think when we get to the EL semi final, Monreal is going to be rotated. Mustafi is harder to guess. I own Mustafi but if I had a WC, the one I would go for is Cech.

Honestly Mustafi is much more likely to play. Wenger will be resting Koscielny for the league as his achilles is a mess and he'll want to play 1 senior CB as he doesn't like to play chambers and holding together. No one is immune to rotation (Cech aside as Ospina plays Europa) but i'd say Mustafi is your best bet. Also Kolasinac is showing a bit of form again and so he can rotate well with Nacho.

Think too much is made of "hot topic". It is simply a thread where several people have a debate/opinion. If people don't have any, they should just not comment.

I think deploying the full golf umbrella is a folly at this point too, but a small unbrella, mac or waterproof hat can I think be justified as we have some "knowns", such as Utd, Spurs and Chelsea having 2 doubles. Thinking about which players you may want from these teams I don't think is a waste of time as you can build the rest of your squad around them 🙂

My take on this could be that it's not very rational and useful to post those rmwct's before fixture announcements but for some it's probably just for getting the enjoyment of planning between different combinations they could afford. I don't mind people doing it and probably this discussion is as much waste of time as that 😀 Good luck for the rest of the season Ruth, hope you do well

Exactly, if Arsenal are going into a second leg at, say, 1-1, you think Wenger will play the full strength side on the Sunday before? Not a hope in hell

      Just posted this above-

Honestly Mustafi is much more likely to play. Wenger will be resting Koscielny for the league as his achilles is a mess and he'll want to play 1 senior CB as he doesn't like to play chambers and holding together. No one is immune to rotation (Cech aside as Ospina plays Europa) but i'd say Mustafi is your best bet. Also Kolasinac is showing a bit of form again and so he can rotate well with Nacho.

Quite surprised by the love for the Arsenal defence at the moment. Guess we have a lot of fixture > form folks in the house. Or some from the 'form is temporary, class is permanent' school perhaps.

Makes more sense to me than for attackers, definitely.

Also, not saying I'll avoid them (haven't given it much thought yet) but it's not like there's even a nailed on option at a nice price. They're more popular than I expected, put it that way.

Arsenal generally finish the season very strongly when nothing is at stake anymore, it's the basis for Wenger's longevity.

True enough, I remember when Mark pipped me to the Mods and Cons league a few years ago he reeled me in with double Arsenal defence for the last 5/6 weeks. I'm open to persuasion and I haven't really looked into it properly yet but I see them mentioned every page which stood out to me as a bit surprising.

Helps that they're cheap, I'm personally taking a punt on one or two of them!
Mustafi, Mkhi, Auba all look fairly reasonably priced if Arsenal finish strongly.. It is a risk but sure that's what this end of the season is for 🙂

Oh, I'm on board with the attackers - I already had Mkhitaryan and will likely keep him and I'm definitely having Aubameyang, it's the defence that surprises me, especially since the questions are usually about who is most nailed on which suggests to me there is rotation doubt in the air.

Seems to me that an Arsenal defensive player (Cech) makes alot of sense - who is better really?

Spurs and United have one and two tough fixtures respectively and miss 35. Imo cech for de gea in 36 makes sense. Liverpool are Liverpool with rotation concerns and one less fixture. City do make sense but who knows how UCL football and winning the league will mess with them? Surely rotation across the board. And most of us will accommodate the likes of Chelsea, Burnley, Swansea anyway. Cech looks good value and prior form doesn't always equal later form, if it did everyone would have the same team. Shaqiri offers an obvious recent example of bucking that trend and rewarding those who took a risk on a player with super fixtures and obvious ability

Again, not calling it a bad move necessarily, just surprised at the popularity and the fact the pick doesn't seem to be being questioned. Perhaps when I make my first draft I'll think it looks like a good option and eat my words 🙂

          Cech, Fabianski
          Alonso, Smalling, Lowton, Chilwell, vdH
          Salah, Mahrez, Son, Lingard, Kenedy

Don't fancy Cech, people seem to be doubting Smalling's nailedness (I have no idea), is Chilwell nailed?, Kenedy has terrible fixtures in week you need him, Lingard?

Prefer Cech+Smalling than DDG+Mustafi/Monreal as gives me 0,5 extra and all are equally nailed imo
                Chilwell is quite nailed
Kenedy with 4.7 is fantastic enabler
Lingard will play and will get points plus his price is fantastic and Willian who is 1 mil more could be rotated too.
Those gives my ability to have Alonso, MU def, Ars def, Salah, Son, Mahrez and THAT strike force!

Bailly + Jones. Smalling was third option and is playing because of Jones injury and/or Jones feud with Mou.

Jones won't play both games in the DGW so is a poor pick, he'll likely be rotated with Smalling.

Well Jones hasn't been rotated all season when fit so that's one thing, but also, how does watching United every week give an indication of Mou's end of season plans when Bailly has been out injured for 90% of the season?

If you think Jose will play him twice in one GW go for it. So he wasn't rotated for FA Cup and Champions League games and started in the Cup and League in the same week?

I'm not getting him personally as he's made of glass and not as good value as he was earlier in the season at 5m, but Mou generally has a cup team and a league team. If Jones plays the first league game I think he'll play the second and not the cup.
Mou's tactics might change when it gets to the "business end" of the FA Cup, you're right, but that's anyone's guess. I don't think Jones would have any issue playing 2 games in 1 week if he's fit, Mou is hardly thinking of saving him for the summer or next season.

It's nothing to do with a cup and league team it's due to the fact that Jones is United's most injury prone player in the past 3-4 years and has been prioritized for the EPL. Smalling is Bailly's replacement for tactical reasons and Jones and Bailly are the first choice CB's until Lindelof is ready. Jose doesn't prefer to rotate CB's he rarely did it at Chelsea. Lindelof hasn't adapted well enough to the Eng game but he's better in European games so he plays him in the CL as Jones replacement.

There's an argument to say Bailly is actually your most injury prone player at the back these days...
So basically, we've no idea who's going to play in the EPL and the FACup, which was my only point 😀
I'm holding my hands up and saying I've no idea who will play when, but there's not much of a reason for Mou to rotate the defence till the end of the season, especially with his head on some fans' chopping block..

Bailly has had a bad one off injury but Jones has suffered from a reoccurring problem over the past few years hence his gametime is managed so the two injuries are not the same.

              23 Dec
              26 Dec

              1 Jan

6 full games in 19 days.

He'd been out injured for around 6 weeks before those Dec games and a few game weeks later his reoccurring injuries came back. Last season he played on average 7 games before getting injured this season slightly longer at around 9 games.

i can play the WC for this GW, at the moment i prefer the first option, or i can wait GW32 and my team is below:

            Pope - Foster
            Hegazi - Ward - robertson - davies - schindler
            salah - shaqiri - doucourè - milivojevic - gross
            lukaku - wilson - firmino.

i can do FT: wilson, milivojevic --> Auba and sterling (-4).

            some suggestions? 🙂

Question: Is it worth me becoming a member now or just waiting till next season? I've never been a member but would like to be one. Just wondering if it's worth it now or if it's too late in the season?

Don't let anyone tell you how to spend your well-earned money but you'd be buying 2 months for the price of like 6.

I don't think it would be worth it with just 7 weeks left of the season. Especially as these 7 weeks are mostly guided by blanks and doubles. Keep reading the articles on here and listening to the scoutcast etc and you should do well enough over these remaining weeks 🙂

I would disagree with the above. I think that the decisions made in the coming weeks are pivotal and having detailed stats will help you get teh most out of the final weeks.

I think that its worth it if...
              - If you are in a cash ML as it could make the difference
              - If you are on your WC or still have your WC to use

There’s also the counter argument that if you really value and appreciate the work done here on the site and the scoutcast then it’s a nice way to show that appreciation.

Two things that surprise me about the RMWCTs:

            1) The mass exodus of Liverpool players due to their lack of a DGW. Does anyone really think VdH (best case: EVE, SOU) outscores Robertson/VvD (BOU)? This also ignores the fact that Liverpool have some excellent fixtures up to and including GW36 (and Robertson finding himself playing a more and more Alonso-like role).

            2) Everyone seems set on having a Swansea defender and playing a power five midfield. This doesn't account for the fact that Swansea have managed three clean sheets since mid-December and (Mawson aside) their defenders aren't really involved at the business end. In my view, Andy King as a 4.2 midfielder offers a much better option as he is a cheaper way of getting the same two appearance points, might just sneak a contribution in attack and frees up valuable funds for a gun front line which would easily enable Kane's return.

Just my two pennies' worth while we kill time until next weekend...

              1) van der horn is cheaper, and has two games so probably outscores them on average...also robertson and alonso's roles are not even close with alonso forward for corners and taking free kicks, and also in the box far more....

              2 i agree with

I think we disagree fundamentally on VdH’s likely return. I’m not even sure that I’d back him to outscore a Liverpool wingback on that (best case) DGW. I guess time will tell

I would think Kenedy could do as effective a job an enabler, whilst actually being quite good

I agree that Kennedy is a much better player. But if you’re looking at a guy who you will only play in the DGW, his fixtures are quite poor and he costs 0.5m more

Alonso type role could easily become Davies type role ie. rotated for easy fixtures around European games. 2 fixtures less than another option could easily become 3 or 4.

I don’t think anybody will wheel out the Swansea defender except on a bench boost when they may be at home to two of the most impotent away attacks in the league

The rotation issue is a possibility, but think it’s a gamble more than worth taking. He’s been locked in, even with UCL fixtures, for a while now.

And see above, it’s just a disagreement as to whether a Swansea defender x2 outscores a Liverpool defender x1. Imo I don’t think they do (also 4.4 too much for bench fodder imo, would be my third most expensive defender lol)

            The only draft I made

            Ddg
            Tarkowski Bailly mustafi Robertson Alonso
            Salah sterling Mahrez
            Aubameyang Firmino

Bench - Fabianski Gross Kennedy Mounie

Adrian start at risk? Not sure why Hart started their last fixture. Maybe look at Hennessy or McCarthy? Much prefer Lowton and Alonso to Mee and Christensen. Maybe Cech in goal and a 4.5 or so defender?

Lots of people thinking Man City will ease off when they win the league fielding weakened teams, etc . I think they'll be going all out to get the points record. Also even if they knock out Liverpool they're unlikely to get past semis in CL.

Anyone's guess but Pep has a history of easing off and rotating after the league has been won

Records to be had - and he's a man who likes records.

Also their reserve team would demolish most PL teams. Just need to hope the guy you pick gets sufficient minutes imo

Yep I don't think they'll stop winning games, their third team would beat most PL teams, but I'm not going to be picking Bernardo Silva, Yaya Touré or Gundogan on my WC for example 😀 if you guess right, fair play 🙂

Still considering one of Silva, Sterling or Jesus but probably won't go with any if I'm honest.

Still have sterling and will probably keep on the basis that he could get a decent return from a 20 minute run out lol

They won't get past quarters. I'm looking at sterling for the run in. He's basically a differential now

            Vertongen or Bailly?

Thinking Bailly from now until GW36, then Vertongen from GW36 to end. Good idea?
