The international break starts with some mixed defensive news for Chelsea, while the in-form Riyad Mahrez helps steers Algeria to victory.

Denmark’s 1-0 win over Panama – one of England’s World Cup opponents – was achieved without Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen.

The versatile defender has returned to Stamford Bridge after missing out last night, with his national manager, Age Hareide, playing down the severity of his injury:

“Andreas Christensen has been sent home to London. We do not want to take any risks with him. I cannot say exactly what is wrong with Christensen, but it is a little fatigue. It’s not serious, but it can be. It is a bit frustrating because we would have liked to trial him in both central defence and as a defensive midfielder.”

Priced at just 5.3 in Fantasy Premier League, interest in Christensen is on the rise as the cheapest route into a defence that is one of just six set to play twice in Gameweek 34, with the Blues travelling to Southampton and Burnley.

Antonio Conte could, however, have David Luiz back in contention for the Gameweek 32 home encounter against Spurs on April 1, with the Brazilian stepping up his recovery from an ongoing knee problem.

Returning to the Denmark match, the usual FPL suspects of Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel started for the Danes, while Huddersfield centre-half Mathias Jorgensen was also handed a rare international appearance and his club colleague, Jonas Lossl, was on the bench.

Eriksen is likely to be in the plans of many an FPL manager as Spurs have an upcoming Double Gameweek 34 involving Man City at home and a trip to Brighton, as well as another double probably taking in a trip to West Brom and a visit from Newcastle.

But any of his 14.5% ownership watching yesterday’s match would have been dismayed to discover the Panamanians in combative mode for what was meant to be a friendly, as Hareide alluded to post-match.

“You play a friendly, especially between two teams that will play in the World Cup, and you take it a little bit more easy – but I think that’s their style and the referee has to decide about that.”

Eriksen survived and was replaced after 64 minutes for purely tactical reasons, while the 4.7% who own Schmeichel were at risk of losing their man to serious injury when he was the victim of a studs-first challenge to the midriff from Blas Pérez that narrowly missed connecting with the Leicester man’s face.

Pérez was sent off, the Danes won and all ended well, with Denmark back in action on Tuesday against Chile.

As for Panama, they’re also playing again that day against Switzerland, so the 12.6% of managers with Xherdan Shaqiri in their squads will no doubt be grateful that their man is missing the international break with a minor calf issue.

Vokes shines as Bale makes hay

Burnley striker Sam Vokes scored one goal and set up two more as Wales cruised to a 6-0 win over China.

His turn was not the star one, however, as a Gareth Bale hat-trick confirmed the Real Madrid man as his country’s all-time record goalscorer.

Then again, Vokes is used to playing second fiddle at club level as well – he’s currently third in the attacking pecking order at Burnley behind in-form duo Ashley Barnes (three goals in as many Gameweeks) and Chris Wood (three in two).

The Clarets’ schedule (wba wat LEI CHE) includes a double in Gameweek 34 that is prompting interest in their assets, yet despite his fine 63-minute performance yesterday, Vokes’ role as a bit-part player under Sean Dyche will ensure we steer clear.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs also handed starts to Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Andy King, with the latter providing an assist.

Spurs full-back Davies (23.2%) and the 2.0%-owned Stoke City man Allen played 70 and 63 minutes respectively, the others the full 90.

All are likely to be back in action for the final of the China Cup on Monday, when they will play the winners of today’s other semi-final between Uruguay and the Czech Republic.

Elsewhere…

Gabon and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is missing his country’s Long’s Cup duties in Bangkok as his grandmother has passed away.

The 8.3%-owned striker has been attracting a lot of FPL interest as the Gunners’ schedule (STK SOT new WHU) includes a fixture in the reduced Gameweek 35 slate and Europa League ineligibility makes him virtually nailed-on for league duty.

On the flip side, the news that Arsenal do not have a double in Gameweek 34 has dampened some of the enthusiasm in their key assets.

Meanwhile, Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez (10.7%) is another in many managers’ Wildcard plans on the back of a good set of fixtures (bha NEW bur SOT) that includes two matches in Gameweek 34.

Indeed, since yesterday’s confirmation of the Double Gameweek 34, he is the fifth most bought player in the last 24 hours.

The winger’s fine domestic form – he has two goals and an assist from his last two Gameweeks – was carried into the international break as he set up two of Algeria’s strikes in a 4-1 friendly win over Tanzania.

Mahrez recovered from a slight muscle issue to play the full 90 minutes yesterday and is expected to be back in action again on Tuesday, away in Iran.

I see a lot has been mentioned about getting Brighton assets in for the DGW. Maybe the keeper, but the two fixtures don't scream many goals to me. And then, from GW36, the fixtures are pretty awful.

When you play for BHA, no fixture is a good fixture

Same as for Liverpool/City attackers, no fixture is a bad fixture

They do have those two good fixtures beforehand, it's a good point. I am just not sure that their fixtures are good enough to warrant getting them in when they need to be shifted later anyway.

As I said though, maybe Ryan is a good option.

With no clean sheets. They've scored reasonably well to be fair, but deep down you know you're only picking their players because DGW and not fixtures

If I pick Brighton players it will be because of DGW for sure. But I would also have to consider the fixtures before the DGW & during it & I can see why people are getting one or two for that reason.
Who else would you get in their price bracket that offer more returns over the next four games?

In defence: Robertson (even without a DGW). Liverpool much better at the back than they were, and he plays left wing
In midfield: Only playing four in midfield and cheapest starter is Willian so not really looked. If you play five in mid, I accept Gross is a decent option
In attack: I have Firmino, Auba and Lukaku. I would be very surprised if Murray outscored any of them before the end of GW34 (but not really like-for-like)

I have the same attack, but because I have all my chips left apart from TC I am playing the game differently to you. Everyone has cheap enablers on the bench & some are signing Brighton & Burnley players with this in mind.

Stop spouting ignorance. Sanches was a starter for Carvalhal before he got injured. He played ahead of Fer, who got injured and allowed Carroll/King to be starters. Sanches has shown improvements lately, but I guess you don't watch Swansea enough to see that.

Same boat with no FH. Currently looking at 7 DGW players for GW34, 10 starters in GW35 and 11 DGW players in 37 (one hit, but Kane back). Would end up benching a couple of guys with DGW in 37 to play Firmino and Salah, but so be it

Without my FH I have to look at it in another way. Happy with my forwards for the next 4 GW's (Firmino, Vardy and Aubemeyang), but I need some kind of Man U attack for the DGW.

Atm I am looking to get rid of James, Sterling and B.Silva -> Albrighton, Gudmundsson and Sanchez before the DGW.
Then swap Sanchez, Lloris and Vardy between GW34 and GW35 (-4)

Shhhh, you can't suggest that not having 15 DGW players (or 14 plus Salah) isn't the way to go! You'll be hounded out of the comments section 😉

BB in GW34 with 7 DGWs
      10 starters in GW35
9 DGWs in GW37 with Salah and Firmino and TC Kane

I don’t have my TC, so I’m wildcarding now. Freehit in GW34 and BB in GW37.

My team is set up to navigate 11 players through GW35 without a hit.

I think I do. No TC left and looks like the template bench for the 34 boosters is close to Ryan, | Murray, Gross, Gudmundsson, Barnes | Tarkowski, Lowton | Duffy, Dunk.

I think that my bench in dgw37 will outscore that bench because of better fixtures.

    Which 3 from Brighton:
It seems to me that there are 4 stand out enablers from Brighton for the double double.

Ryan - ideal pairing with DDG
Duffy - cheap and nailed, with 2 assists - not great for BPS though.
Gross - easy to downgrade for funds to get in Kane for DGW37, 5 Goals, 8 assists and 21 BPS
Murray - on form and cheap.

Anyone else you are considering from Brighton? If you are going with max of 3, then which 3 are you going with?

Was considering Murry, Stephens and Duffy but reconsidering as transfers will be at a premium particularly GW37 to bring in City and Spurs players:

Brighton 2nd game of DGW 34 is TOT, followed by bur, MUN, mci & Liv doesn't fill me with confidence.

ATM I'm considering Swansea who I can bench GW34 if BB GW37

Anyone using Free Hit in BGW35 considered what your team might look like yet?

I'm thinking something like this could work...

    Cech
    Baines, Shawcross, Otamendi
Salah (C), Mkhi, Silva, Sane, Mane
    Firmino, Aubam

    3.9 GK, Dummet, 3.9 Def, 4.5 Fwd

There are some quite nice teams/fixtures that week so I think it's likely we'll get more from it than people who used in BGW31.
Liverpool, Arsenal and City should all be maxed, plus Eve at home to NEW and Stoke at home to BUR - then 1 playing sub (Dummet for me) and then bench duds

One thing worth considering is that in GW35, rotation could be huge for Arsenal and one of Liverpool/City. I would suggest having some coverage on your bench as you'd look pretty silly fielding 9 with your FH

Think the BB34 TC37 route can still be done by non FHers. Careful planning in a 33GW wildcard, with the right amount of DGW players and enough BGW35 teams, 2 FT in 35 and and a -8, you could still field 9/10 players.

      Agreed

Just need to be a grown up when it comes to bringing in players with a DGW in GW34. You don't need to have 10+, providing the players without a DGW you are happy with

I confess to not knowing much about how Puel sees his backline. I need to save 0.1m on Morgan and Chilwell/Simpson do that. But who is more nailed?

I know Puel favours Chilwell but he does get the odd rest and has Fuchs A’s completion. Although he is much more attacking than Simpson so maybe worth the risk.

Is Amartey really much completion for Simpson?

Thoughts on this strategy for DGW34 + BGW35?

    Current Team:

    Pickford (Speroni)

    Maguire Mee Dunk (Ogbonna, Mbemba)

Salah De Bruyne Mahrez Albrighton (Carroll)

    Lukaku Aubameyang Firmino

    Save FT for GW33 then:

De Bruyne, Dunk, Albrighton -> Son, Valencia, Gudmundsson (-4)

Leaving me with this for DGW34 (all players in CAPS have 2 Fixtures)

    Pickford

    VALENCIA MAGUIRE MEE

    Salah MAHREZ SON GUDMUNDSSON

    LUKAKU Aubameyang Firmino

    (Speroni, Ogbonna, Carroll, Mbemba)

I've played my Free Hit in GW31 (scoring 95 points, without Salah Captain!) but for the BGW I'd do:

    Son + Maguire -> Sane + Mustafi (-4)

Giving me this for BGW 35 (am aware Mbemba + Carroll probably won't get any minutes)

    Pickford

    Mustafi Mee Ogbonna Mbemba

    Salah Sane Gudmundsson Carroll

    Aubameyang Firmino

Then WC ready for the big DGW37!

Sound a good plan? Apologies for the essay

is it just me that is seeing dgw blindness everywhere....are people missing the point of trying to achieve as many points as possibloe rather than trying to get 15 players with DGW's

Very wrong example. People are not taking Bobby out for the sake of Murray! Murray is actually an upgrade to most of our current third forwards. People are removing Firmino to afford the likes of Vardy, Auba, Lukaku, etc, all have similar or higher chance of hauling thn Firmino, given they play more games too.

A part of me is looking forward to the GW35 FH teams with benches of fodder to get out 3 Arsenal, 3 Liverpool and 3 City, only to see one Arsenal and two or three of the City/Liverpool players (whoever wins the quarter final) rested ahead of their European semi finals.

Imagine playing your FH and only fielding 8 players...

Imagine not playing your FH and the few players you've got are being rested.

But I already have my FH points in the bank. My plan is to have 10 players with a fixture. The majority will be the same as those people will be bringing in on FH (triple Liverpool, Cech and Auba, Sterling). I won't lose out much against those who FH

Imagine not having any chips left & getting resentful at those that do....

You seem to have mistaken me with someone with no chips left. I still have a second WC, a TC and a BB 😉

Imagine rising to the bait without linking your team...

The team that was linked on my profile isn't my team - honestly have no idea how that happened. Have a look now.

Can't see your team linked on your profile though

Apologies, yes I see a different team now.
I just updated mine, does it show now?
