Optimism surrounding Harry Kane’s recovery from injury gathers momentum, Arsenal’s squad continues to be replenished, and the international break delivers mixed messages on the Liverpool defence.

There’s a growing confidence that Kane could be back in action sooner than initially thought – and it’s coming from the man himself, albeit via England manager Gareth Southgate.

The Spurs striker’s ankle injury, picked up in the Gameweek 30 win at Bournemouth, sent a large chunk of his then-2.7 million Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners back to the drawing board just as Wildcard season took off.

Spurs own statement made on March 14 was vague on his recovery time.

“The England striker sustained the injury following a challenge in our 4-1 win against Bournemouth on Sunday and is expected to return to First Team training next month.”

Many took that to indicate that he could return for the Gameweek 34’s double with Man City and Brighton at the earliest. But that prognosis might be a little pessimistic.

Southgate had this to say on Kane’s prognosis in England press conference on Monday:

“I don’t know exactly when he’ll be back, but he’s confident it will be sooner rather than later. For exact timescales, you’d have to speak to the medical team at Spurs. I’d imagine he’d be back fairly quickly.”

Indeed, the England manager was recently pictured in conversation with Kane at Hotspur Way, with the striker free of his leg brace. Some local press even indicate that the striker will have targeted a return for the Gameweek 32 clash with Chelsea.

For those holding off on Wildcarding until Gameweek 33, news of Kane’s availability would represent a major game-changer.

Many have ditched the forward – his ownership has now dipped below 30% – and opted, perhaps temporarily, for team-mate Son Heung-min. The South Korean will doubtless take over the lone striker role in Kane’s absence and scored a brace from that position at the Vitality Stadium.

Son is the most bought midfielder ahead of this weekend’s return of domestic action, with form (four goals in two Gameweeks) more than fixtures (che stk MCI & bha blank) on his side.

But should Kane be fit enough to return to action before Double Gameweek 34, the security of pitch-time offered by Christian Eriksen could see him usurp Son in our thinking, particularly for the kindly run-in (WAT wba LEI) that follows a Gameweek 35 blank.

If Spurs, as expected, be handed a home meeting with Newcastle added to the trip to West Brom in Double Gameweek 37, Kane will be a compelling Triple Captain option, making him almost essential for the closing fixtures.

Any news from Spurs’ medical staff will be even more eagerly awaited now, with later Wildcarders afforded the luxury of extra time before they need to make a potentially crucial decision regarding their forward lines. At present, Romelu Lukaku and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang are the main beneficiaries up front, sitting first and second respectively for transfers in ahead of Gameweek 32.

Those with Wildcards currently active will surely either be reserving funds or making plans for a one or two-trade swap ahead of the Double Gameweek.

Arsenal squad swells

Striker Alexandre Lacazette is back in training for Arsenal following a knee operation that has kept him sidelined since mid-February.

Arguably, the news is of more consequence to the Gunners’ Europa League aspirations than our FPL plans, with fellow forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – ineligible in Europe – still the main domestic draw among their frontmen.

Tellingly, the Frenchman was afforded just 25 minutes off the bench in the two league matches after Aubameyang joined before he succumbed to injury. Once fully fit, then, Lacazette may have to settle for minutes on the flank instead.

Alex Iwobi could be the candidate to make way in such a scenario – the Nigerian international has started six of Arsenal’s last eight league matches in a 4-2-3-1 set-up.

More will be revealed when Arsene Wenger announces his side for Sunday’s visit from Stoke City, with next Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against CSKA Moscow a major factor in who he uses domestically.

Wenger now has close to a full squad from which to choose.

Aaron Ramsey is also training following a minor operation that kept him out of Wales’ international duties, while Mesut Ozil is another expected to be in contention for Sunday after he left the Germany squad, for reasons yet unclear, following their 1-1 draw with Spain on Friday.

However, the pair trail behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan as our favoured Arsenal midfielder for a very favourable run-in that sees them face just one top six between now and the end of the season.

Reds defence in flux

The withdrawal of Liverpool’s Joe Gomez from the England squad with an ankle issue should be good news for the 3.8% of FPL managers with Trent Alexander-Arnold in their sides.

Gomez limped off early in England’s win in the Netherlands on Friday and returned to his club over the weekend, with reports indicating he could now be sidelined for a month

That should mean Alexander-Arnold takes over right-back duties when the Reds travel to Crystal Palace in Gameweek 33.

But there is a chance that another England man, Nathaniel Clyne, returns at full-back instead.

The former Southampton defender has returned to full training after missing the entire season to date with a back problem.

Alexander-Arnold, at 4.3, is a much more attractive Fantasy option than Clyne (5.3), although the lack of double Gameweeks to come for Liverpool might make the point moot anyway.

The Reds’ schedule (cry eve BOU wba STK che BHA) is strong but limited, leaving Mohamed Salah as the one stand-out option, with Roberto Firmino also currently popular – he’s Gameweek 32’s fifth most bought player, with 76,000+ new owners.

But centre-half Virgil van Dijk reminded us all of his potential for points at both ends of the pitch with his first international goal for the Dutch in their 3-0 win over Portugal last night.

He played the full match, and club-mate Georginio Wijnaldum 68 minutes, in the friendly held in Geneva.

Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake and Brighton midfielder Davy Propper started and finished the match for the Netherlands, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah handed six minutes at the end and his Palace team-mate Patrick van Aanholt an unused sub.

Leicester City playmaker Adrien Silva played the first half for the Portuguese, while Southampton’s Cedric Soares and Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva watched on from the bench.

Full shifts for the Welsh

Spurs Ben Davies’ 23.1% ownership makes him the second most popular defender in FPL.

That 1.4+ million base won’t have been overly thrilled to see the left-back play 90 minutes for Wales in their 1-0 China Cup final loss to Uruguay yesterday.

Davies, who was subbed off in stoppage time, also played 70 minutes in Thursday’s win over hosts China and the long round-trip to the Far East, plus 160 minutes of pitch-time, is hardly ideal preparation for a vital Gameweek 32 clash at Chelsea. On the upside, though, the Stamford Bridge encounter won’t take place until 4 pm on Sunday.

Davies’ rival for left-back duties, Danny Rose, played 71 minutes for England on Friday and might well feature again tonight at home to Italy.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs also handed starts to Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Joe Allen and Andy King against the Uruguayans.

All played the full match, while Burnley striker Sam Vokes was given 67 minutes.

Elsewhere, Southampton’s Mario Lemina played 79 minutes for Gabon in their 1-0 win over the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.

Heaton ready for action

Burnley’s Tom Heaton has discussed his recent injury comeback after another outing for the reserves earlier in the week.

The Clarets’ skipper has now made four 90-minute appearances since stepping up his comeback and, ahead of a schedule that hands Sean Dyche’s men five matches in the next four Gameweeks, reckons he is now finally fit to challenge Nick Pope for the role between the posts.

“I’m ready to go really. It’s my fourth 90 minutes. Each one is a step done, and I felt really good today.

It’s been a few long, hard months in the gym and in the physio room, so I’m delighted to be back out on the grass, and I think that sort of ticks the box in playing games now.

I’ll probably speak to the manager and to the physios, but in terms of where I feel, I feel sharp and ready to go, and the arm feels superb.”

Pope sits third in the FPL keeper standings on 131 points and is currently the third most bought stopper ahead of Gameweek 32. Given his fixtures – with two home meetings in Gameweek 34 – he would be primed for further investment but the threat from Heaton raises real concern.

Clarets’ boss Sean Dyche faces a major dilemma, with the World Cup hopes of both keepers in his hands. Pope’s performances justify his starting role, though one notable error or a heavy defeat would surely trigger a change with club skipper Heaton reclaiming the berth.

For those on a wildcard this week or next:

      Alonsyes or Alonsno?

Is he worth the outlay given Chelsea lack of clean sheets?

Why didn't the scoutcast team wait for the fixtures to be announced before wildcarding? Isn't patience a virtue in FPL?

Fair enough. But for me the fixture announcements changed my entire chips strategy for the run in.

Been listening to a lot of FPL pods this week. A lot of FPL pundits are expressing regret over going early with the wildcard so I think it is a fair question.

        2) By wildcarding now and focusing on "double-double" players, will your team be weak in double gameweek 37 - especially considering (a) 6 teams are likely to have a double in 37 but NOT in 34 and (b) with playing the free hit in 35 there will be limited free transfers to refocus your DGW34-optimised team onto the big double in 37?

End of the day there's pros and cons for both options. At the moment no one can say with 100% certainty whether WCing now or in 33 will prove to yield more points we will have to just wait and see. Everyone's team is different and everyone has their own situation. Some don't have a TC to play so may even WC in 36. Shouldn't be criticising others for having a different viewpoint to your own just be confident in your decision and respect others for having their own viewpoint.

I'm not criticising anyone. All you see on here at the moment is RMWCTs and it feels like everyone is wildcarding. In a situation like this, I think it's good to hear a different point of view.

I think the numbers WCing are less than you think - it's just WCers have something to post about, whereas non WCers don't, unless they are blattering on about the same old nonsense repeatedly of course 😉

So when all those who WC in 33 and do their RMWCTs next week do you expect those who wildcarded in 32 to be coming in saying "should've done it last week" in order to give you their point of view also?

Re: Point a) 2 of those teams are Huddersfield and West ham, who have mci, che, and lei, MUN respectively. They can therefore be avoided imo.

That leaves Swansea, Newcastle, City and Arsenal. I think GW32 or GW33 wildcarders can cover this off slightly by carrying a Swansea/Newcastle defender on their bench from the wildcard and bringing in Ayew for Barnes/Murray in GW36/37.

Arsenal and City assets will depend entirely on how they get on in Europe though, thats true. GW36 wildcarders will hold an advantage with regards to players from these teams. Earlier wildcarders will be crossing fingers and hoping Arsenal and City progress to the final in their respective competitions!

Very true. If new information comes to light and the cards fall in such a way that you want to load up on Arsenal and City players, it will be difficult to do so with an inflexible GW32 double-double Wildcard. It will also be difficult to load up on cheap Swansea enablers.

For me my gw 31 required it , but yes was based on normal seasons where 1st gw better and jumped early

That said wc for gw 36 for dge 37 will have more informatiom but results could change city swans and other teams rotation or anything left to play for at that point , this all involves an element of luck for fpl based on so many factors so just have to see its all a gamble to a point on which tactic to follow

Dont think either way we should be too smug if gw 34 or 37 is best dgw

Yes, I think either way its paramount for GW32 and 33 wildcarders to build their squads in such a way to include a little flexability, as well as the Arsenal and City uncertainty, theres Kane aswell, and a tiny chance that not all the remaining doubles fall into 37.

If the cards fall in favour of City and Arsenal for GW37, then I think we will see plenty going Salah to Sterling, and transfers of a similar nature. And loads of posts stating that a hit in a DGW is only a -2, of course 😉

What do you suggest for managers who used their BB earlier in the season, yet still have the rest of thier chips in tact? This scenario has not been addressed anywhere on the internet from what I can find.

Barnes or Murray for a cheap 3rd striker?

Is it worth doubling or even tripling up on United defence?

Do we think City will keep rotating their CBs or is Otamendi relatively nailed?

Who are some under the radar differentials on WC that have been overlooked?

For Question 1 I would suggest you maximise your spend on the pitch, so instead of going for gross as 5th mid and barnes as third striker as many who are bench boosting are doing, I would pick one of these and have a base price player too, for example.

Depends what formation you want to play and how risky you are feeling, you could go for 3-5-2 with the third striker a deadspot non player. 3-4-3 with the 5th defender a deadspot non player for example.

If you are more risk averse and want to have 15 who play, then Defenders dummet (4.2) and fernandez (4.5) rotate perfectly offering decent fixtures every week for just a combined 8.7m. You could have Lewis Cook as your 5th mid who sits on your bench but guarentees 2 points a week for just 4.3m. With these kind of players in place it liberates cash for you to use on maximising your money out on the pitch.

        Good luck!

You may want to leave 0.2 itb to protect yourself against price fluctuations. Notice: if Auba disappoints on the first week, you may want to sell to Vardy straight away regardless. If Auba hauls instead, then you want to keep, knowing the price is likely to fly up by at least 0.2. If Lukaku hauls (which, quite frankly, I consider unlikely) you may want to keep as well. But, either way, you want to land on GW34 with Vardy and Lukaku.

Is big 3 up top a viable option with Kane potentially back soon?

Any 3 of firmino, vardy, Kane, aubameyang and lukaku would make a fearsome line up for double gameweek 34 and beyond...

With some popular midfield targets such as Willian and son susceptible to rotation and the likes of Glenn Murray and Ashley Barnes hardly inspiring picks,9 is the big 3 strikers the way to go for the season run in?

Should we really be making sure we put 14 plus salah out with BB in 35. Or should we be looking at keeping players like sterling, otemendi , Bobby etc. Especially if we have value tied up in them.

Do you feel that the BB chip is a little overrated particularly for those of us with no WC?
For example, if you have a 3.9 non-playing keeper and Mariappa is it better just to hold them?
Surely the money is better invested in the likes of Hazard or Eriksen who are being largely ignored on here over the break and could prove huge differentials in the run-in.

Yeah I wonder is it worth it at all. I've double SWA keepers as I feel I can play Fabianski every game for save points. Getting in the likes of Ryan for his double in 34 is probably not worth the hassle. I just about have the funds to upgrade KN to him and give me a bench of Ryan, Lowton, Mariappa & Quaner. But then I'd have the money tied up in Ryan who I wouldn't want afterwards.
Might just hold off til 37 anyway though!

If you don’t have a wildcard and will have 4 single Gameweek players on the bench anyway without taking hits for low budget options look into what your bench could be on single game weeks. It doesn’t matter if it’s a double for your bench boost if you don’t have doubles on the bench so building for a good bench in 36 could be better?

Discounting the FH chip as 50% of us don't have it:
What is the WC strategy to go by.
I have heard all the possibilities but nobody has mentioned using it in GW35.
I have planned for this and can still have a strong BB in GW34.
There are more options in GW35 to balance the team with City Spurs Arsenal having a DGW thereafter. With 4 Benchers in GW35 that can have DGW's in GW37 it is not hard to have a good side in GW37.
      What do you think experts?

I'm planning for a GW35 WC as well but TC in 34 and BB in 37. Think this could make sense as Arsenal, City, Newcastle and Swansea have a fixture in 35 as well as a double in 37.

For those with no TC & WC currently active is GW37 really worth saving for the BB chip?
The main consideration seems to be to swap Brighton/Burnley for Swansea/Southampton bench fodder as most of the premium assets have two DGWs apart from City & Liverpool.
Therefore will using the BB in 37 really make much of a difference in points gained between the two weeks?

On BB 34, if going Kane in 36.

What about using a premium keeper as a cash cow to bring #kaneback. i.e. using Chelsea GK you will have CHE def (or double with Alonso) in GWK 33 when united have city, and four very good chances of clean cheets on BB compared to two with DDG/Ryan

      Hi Jonty,

For me, the way the chips & fixtures have fallen, I’m left with an active WC and no FH.

Is a BB in 34 with only 4 x SGWers (good players, good fixtures) viable, given the need to field a good team in 35 and we can’t ensure where we’ll be form/rotation wise come GW37.

Team below but my active WC basically gives me a solid, unblinkered team for 32 & 33 (I think!), 9 or 10 DGW 34 players, 11 for GW35 and up to 12 DGW 37 players (Kane-in and City-in plans).

BB players for 34 would be:

      Fabianski - EVE
      Monreal - new
      Robertson - BOU
      Mili - BRI

      WC Team:

      Schmeichel, Fabianski

      Alonso, Morgan, Lowton, Robertson, Monreal

      Salah, Mahrez, Willian, Gudmundsson, Milivojevic

      Aubameyang, Lukaku, Barnes

      Thanks!

Thoughts on the "alternative" use of all chips?
WC active, get players who play gw35 and have a double gw37. (Ars, City, Newcastle, Swans, WHU)
Gw34 Free Hit, field 10 dgw players and Salah.
Gw35 revert back to your team with players for bgw.
Gw36 Triple captain Salah against Stoke at home.
      Gw37, BB.

One reason people are against this seems to be fear of rotation and teams on the beach gw37. This couls possible be good news, as you can get in players who play against these teams (wba-spurs for example).

Another reason i'm going for this is i prefer the cheap options from Swansea, Newcastle and West Ham (Ayew, VdH, Kenedy, Dummet, Dubravka, Arnautovic) instead of Burnley, Brighton options.

Is DDG (5.9) essential? Is Schmeicel (5.0) being overlooked, great fixtures for the next 6 game weeks and has most max bonus points than any other GK or defender. Would offer some much needed funds for elsewhere.

How about this for a smooth, guy in my office triple captained Salah by mistake. Apparently on the Friday night he was putting is phone in his pocket and effectively butt dialed up a Salah Triple Captain. He noticed on Saturday morning but was unable to change it and then off course Salah goes on to score 4 goals and an assist. Lucky B.....

Is a planning for a Free Hit better on a Double Gameweek than a Bench Boost or Triple Captain?

I can't see a Bench Boost getting much in either Gameweek, Triple Captain is very hit and miss but a Free Hit gets you 11 pretty much assured starters without having money wasting on the bench.

I keep thinking a Wild Card team planning for a team of players in 35, with a FH in 34, looks way better than a team of players for 34, with a FH in 35. It would just mean using either a TC of BB chip on a single Game Week which worries me.

Are people getting bogged down with getting DGW players and ignoring players with good fixtures?
eg Lukaku and son over Firmino / Mkhitaryan

Also buying Ryan and a second keeper who the likelihood of a clean sheet is slim and he’s only going to gain points via BB yet there’s Hennessy with a great fixture and 0.3 cheaper .

What does the scout team think ?

Are you leaving money in the bank for tasty transfers? E.g. I'm doing Mkhi and Aubameyang to Son and Lukaku by leaving some cash available.

    Morning....Any feeeback much appreciated...

How’s this WC team looking with only bench boost remaining?

Plan to bench boost with 9 DGW players in 34 then roll into 35 with 9 players + 2FT to bring in Double city.

    DDG Hennessy
    Bailly Roberston Tark Lowton Morgan
    Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunsson Mili
    Auba Lukaku Firmino

I’ve opted for Henn + Mili as they have nice fixtures over 34/35 (despite no double) and are cheap enablers who can sit on bench rest of season.

Nice team. I’m in exact same boat, gone a bit different but like your picks too ..navigating this is not easy!

Trying not to ignore 32 & 33 should then have 9 or 10 DGW 34 players, 11 (with 2FTs, same as yourself) for GW35 and up to 12 DGW 37 players...

      Schmeichel, Fabianski

      Alonso, Morgan, Lowton, Robertson, Monreal

    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Groß
    Lukaku Vardy (Murray)

I am pretty happy with this WC team. Plan to BB in DGW34, FH in GW35 and then ride out the rest with FTs (no TC left). Couple of options I still have - appreciate the advice:

    £0.6itb
    DDG, Ryan
    Alonso, Vertonghen, Monreal, Morgan, Lowton
    Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian, Gros
    Auba, Firmino, Barnes

    A) Vert, Monreal (current team)
    B) Bailly, Robertson (leaves £1.1itb)

Option B will mean I can do a straight Auba > Lukaku for GW34 but will mean I have 3 Liverpool SGW players for BB

    Appreciate the help!

I'm waiting to see what happens, I have a plan to get him in if he seems assured of playing.

Kane will really want the golden boot and if he is available he will play every minute he can to get it, we all saw what he done last season when Lukaku had a couple of goals on him with only a few games left.

These are probably not interesting scoutcast questions, but I would like to ask the latter here so it will be noticed.

Swansea defenders for us bb37 in mind. Van der Horn seems to be not nailed according to rtm tool. Who are and who would you tranfers in on wc now if on bb37? Other better defenders for that dgw?

Would it be possible to update rtm tool to show also projected points of fixtures with no confirmed date? Could it be done as gw39 (should database allow) if not added to gw37? Or could you just list them elsewhere, all it takes is one link? Would be fun to use to compare different strategies.

Even if Kane is back fit and firing for the golden boot?

I'm not sure Kane will be back yet - Salah could have done the business by then.

Sounds like he’s got a good chance of being back by then, but you’re right - A and then get Kane(c) in for WAT in 36

I believe he is nailed and good value.

Should keep things tight under Rafa, and stand a good chance of home clean sheets against HUD and WBA. Maybe even away at eve and wat, as they'll be fighting for their lives.

Re-posting in new article - sorry.

Taking dgw34 out of the equation, in what order of preference would put these defenses for the rest of the season? FH34, BB37.

Arsenal - STO, SOT, WHM, mun, (BUR, lei), hud
Chelsea - TOT, WHU, blank, swa, (LIV, HUD) new
Liverpool - cry, eve, wba, STO, (che), bha
Spurs - che, sto, blank, WAT, (wba, NEW) LEI
United - SWA, mci, blank, ARS, (bha, wha), WAT

Am thinking Arsenal and Spurs look a must for the run-in?

    Thanks.

      Spurs
      United
      Arsenal
      Chelsea
      Liverpool

      In that order.

    A) Smalling and Mkhi (to become Gross for DGW)
    B) Bailley and Gross
    C) Valencia and Gudmundsson

    Thanks!

    Alonso Smalling Monreal (Morgan Tarkowski)
    Salah Hazard Son Willian GroB

Probably wouldn't make any. Would just keep the 1.4m in itb to make changes easier

        DDG (Ryan)
        Alonso Smalling Dunk Morgan Lowton
        Salah Mahrez Son Gudmunson GroB

Almost set – On WC. BB GW34 (no FT chip) TC GW37

    GW34 – 9 doubles
    GW35 - 9 starters

    DDG/Fab
    Alonso/Monreal/Mee/Mawson/ Duffy
    Salah/Mahrez/Willian/Son/Gudmundson
    Firmino/Auba/Barnes
    0.3m ITB

Any thoughts? – Monreal or Mustafi? Mawson or Naughton?

Have you got a plan to get kukaku for 34. kane when he's fit?

Monreal is the better pic but there is talk of rotation. Mustafi is safer.

perhaps Mustafi is safer. has been mentioned before. no Luka for me. i will fit kane in when hes fit.

Firminio is in danger of rotation as they face Man City in CL.
I would go for Vardy with DGW. What about Mawson/Duffy for -> Mariappa (WAT) or Wes Morgan. They have better schedule.

    Morning ya'll

    I've basically gone without Son.
However, the Kane fitness boost may change the below.

    How does this WC look?

    De Gea
    Vert-Alonso-Bailly
    Mahrez-Salah-Gross - Mhki
    Auba-Vardy-Barnes

    Ryan-Lowton-Morgan-Gudmundsson

    GW 34 - Mhki>Willian & Auba> Kaku

Maybe I should have too. Time will tell whether it's the right call.
I had a Low Team Value and maybe a little blinded by DGW fever. I didn't have much value tied in him either
