After looking over our favoured goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders in the newly-updated Watchlist rankings, our series of articles concludes with the strikers.

For those unfamiliar, the Watchlist offers mid-term player recommendations for the next four-to-six Gameweeks and beyond. They can be found in your sidebar on desktop, or via your slide-in menu on mobile or tablet.

These highlight our current thinking on player selection for each position, listing the factors that are contributing to the given rank.

With the top two scoring forwards in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, currently sidelined, Romelu Lukaku climbs to the summit of our rankings ahead of Manchester United’s anticipated pair of Double Gameweeks.

The most bought player over the recent domestic break, the Belgian has bagged three goals and a pair of assists in his last five league outings, supplementing this with five strikes in as many recent cup matches.

Although Jose Mourinho’s men face a trip to Man City and blank Gameweek 35 in the next four rounds of fixtures, they still offer three strong matches in that period – this weekend’s visit from Swansea and a Double Gameweek 34 (WBA bou).

Another double-header is expected in Gameweek 37, formed of trips to Brighton and Watford, which would precede a home clash with Watford. That means that Lukaku has the schedule to build on his improved output.

Arguably, though, it remains to be seen if he will stay a top target for our squads should Kane return ahead of Gameweek 34, with the Spurs striker surely set to return as the key premium target over the run-in.

Jamie Vardy also offers a pair of expected Double Gameweeks.

Having scored in seven of his last 11 league outings, the Leicester striker is now braced for three very favourable Gameweeks (bha NEW bur & SOT) before a blank in 35.

Vardy also goes head-to-head with Crystal Palace in Gameweek 36 and should have back-to-back home encounters with West Ham and Arsenal in Double Gameweek 37.

Indeed, such a schedule may persuade many to consider doubling up on Claude Puel’s attack, with Riyad Mahrez identically priced at 8.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL). As a result, Vardy is the third most bought forward ahead of Gameweek 32, with Mahrez second top for transfer in among midfielders.

Interest in Arsenal’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is also on the rise.

Ineligible for Europa League duties, the winter signing has played from start to finish in all five league matches since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, averaging 5.2 points per match thanks to three goals and an assist.

Over those fixtures (Gameweek 26-30), Aubameyang’s total of 11 efforts in the box is eight more than any team-mate, while he has been afforded five of their 11 big chances.

Encouragingly for Arsene Wenger’s side, they face just one of their top six rivals (STK SOT new WHU mun BUR hud) between now and the end of the season.

Should, as expected, a visit to Leicester drop into Double Gameweek 37 alongside their home match against Burnley, Arsenal will be one of only five teams – along with Man City, Swansea, West Ham and Newcastle – who play in Gameweek 35 to also offer a pair of matches in the penultimate round.

Glenn Murray is our favoured budget pick for Brighton’s anticipated pair of Double Gameweeks.

Five goals in six underline the veteran’s form as the Seagulls prepare for three home matches (LEI HUD cry & TOT) in the next trio of Gameweeks.

The one potential downside is that with expected matches against both Manchester sides in Double Gameweek 37, it remains to be seen whether Murray’s minutes will be managed – particularly if Chris Hughton’s side are safe by that point.

Identically priced at 6.0, playmaker Pascal Gross could be the safest route for those looking at just one Brighton attacker for the run-in.

Despite the lack of a Double Gameweek, Liverpool’s remaining schedule (cry eve BOU wba STK che BHA) looks conducive to further returns from Roberto Firmino.

Five goals and three assists in the last nine Gameweeks highlight the form that has made the Brazilian the most popular forward in FPL, with a 48.4% ownership well clear of second-placed Kane (29.4%).

Certainly, those without Wildcards or Free Hit chips will be reluctant to part company with Firmino, though as Double Gameweek 34 approaches, it may be that Mohamed Salah will be the only Liverpool player to avoid a mass exodus as we look to profit from those players with a pair of fixtures.

Having scored in each of his last three Gameweek appearances, Burnley’s Ashley Barnes merits a spot in our current update.

Priced at just 5.3 and owned by 2%, the frontman has started each of the Clarets’ previous 12 league matches. Crucially, he has played all but four minutes of their last nine, dispelling the idea that he could be rotated if Chris Wood (three goals in two) claims a role up top.

Sean Dyche’s side make a strong case for our Wildcards (wba wat LEI & CHE stk BHA ars BOU), though Johan Berg Gudmundsson (5.1) offers an alternative route in midfield.

Dwight Gayle and Callum Wilson also jostle for attention in the budget bracket.

Costing 6.1, Gayle is certainly the form player of the pair, bagging two goals and a pair of assists in Newcastle’s last four league fixtures.

However, with midfielder Kenedy setting us back a mere 4.7, interest in Gayle is minimal at best for a schedule that sees Rafa Benitez’s men square up to five of the top nine in their remaining eight matches.

Nonetheless, home matches with Huddersfield (Gameweek 32) and West Brom (Gameweek 36) and a trip to Watford in Gameweek 37 – which, on the downside, is likely to also involve a trip to Spurs – Gayle could still be in line to profit.

One goal in eight underlines Wilson’s (6.0) recent slump, yet the fixtures remain in his favour, to an extent. Back-to-back clashes against Watford and Crystal Palace precede Bournemouth’s Double Gameweek 34 (liv MUN), while Eddie Howe’s man also face Southampton and Swansea over Gameweek 36-37.

Back in training for Southampton, Charlie Austin’s fitness may well determine their top-flight fate.

Among forwards with more than one goal this season, Austin’s average of 99.8 minutes per strike is second fastest – sandwiched in between Aguero (93.1) and Kane (101.8).

Having netted six times in just five starts, he remains the Saints’ top scorer – despite being sidelined since Gameweek 19.

New manager Mark Hughes played with two up front in his first matches in charge, a 2-0 FA Cup win over Wigan, which bodes well for Austin’s potential as he steps up his recovery.

Given that the St Mary’s outfit are one of just six sides expected to be handed Doubles in Gameweek 34 and 37, their frontman’s eye for goal could offer value for money for those willing to gamble that he can steer clear of the treatment room from this point on.

What do people read into the Chilwell/Fuchs comment by Puel? Does it make much difference to how we viewed Chillwell’s naildness strength?

I really can’t decide. As little as it sounds I need the 0.1m to eat my planned team so it’s between Simpson and Chilwell for me.

As much as I believe Chilwell isn’t nailed, at the same time all he needs is an assist or better and he’s likely to outscore Simpson anyway who has zero attacking/bonus threat. Morgan seems to have very little too.

Check his mins vs Simpson. Then add to that the back up RB is injured

As above. I’m concerned that Simpson has not attacking/bonus threat at all.

As much as I want nailed players, I’m not sure how many clean sheets Leicester will get even with good fixtures, so having a little attacking threat is a real upside.

Bit template-y but a bit not...
Thoughts? Would love to get Gross in there somehow but not sure it's possible...
Def might be a bit weak?

On WC and no FH, so got to keep 35 in mind. Will BB in 34.

    DDG - Ryan
    Azpi - Lowton - Morgan - Mee - Mariappa
    Mahrez - Son - Salah - Sterling - McArthur

Keep the Firmino faith! 🙂 same front line as me.

All I'd do is mee and azpi to tark and alonso. Azpi doesn't offer enough for his price in my books.

Cheers for the reply mate! It's a tough one. Both my nearest chasers in my ML have both Firmino and Azpi, so that's mostly why they are there, just to cover.
Mee to Tarkowski is a good idea, bit more in the bank!

And Tarkowski's already given away his penalty for the month...

Definitely think holding firmino makes sense in that case then.

Azpi, on the other hand, could be a nice little difference maker for you to make some ground by going to alonso though. Since az has been playing at cb far fewer offensive returns and Alonso is in full on striker mode.

Reassuring to hear theories that Jones is #2. I've held him all season and waiting for the press conference to hear updates. Got value tied up in him so can't move to smalling without a hit elsewhere. What's your source on this though? Seen so many variations on the United CB hierarchy.

I don’t want to sound abrupt but what sort of reply are you expecting. Your team is about as template as possible.

I’m not saying the template is bad, but you can see you team on here 10 times per page, so I’d just read through those comments if I were you as they will all apply to your team.

Also, Maguire and double Burnley attack are unique.

There’s no need to be picking unique players for the sake of it.

There’s no harm by generating more discussion, these comment sections don’t have a forum structure (which I would prefer) so I can’t exactly go trawling through to find a team exactly the same as mine. Even if I did, what’s the harm of more discussion?

I think your comment here is absolutely ridiculous.

Link me to the exact team then with the exact same players then? I think you might find that it’s not an “abrapt” task.

Like I said, even if you can, no harm in more discussion on the same team?

Yup. I normally don't question Jonty but Dunk and Stephens are awful picks. Soton have shyte fixtures and I owned Duffy from GW12 til wildcarding this week and he brought me returns just twice in that period I think. I'm going with Robertson as one of my defenders even if he has only one game in GW34. He could get a goal or assist and a clean sheet, which is more than Dunk or Stephens will get in two matches.

Nice SV of your team if you can afford Vert instead must be 104m roughly! Thats the ideal defense then having two premiums and DDG in goal and still affording the front 8.

I contemplated going without lukaku and using that money in Defense but prefer the flexibility now with this considering Kane looking to come back sooner rather than later.

Auba will be swapped out at GW34 for another DGW player.

Anyone else considered the following in midfield and up front, and going cheap at the back along with Cork/King 5th mid?

    Salah // Mahrez // Son // Willian

    Lukaku // Auba // Vardy

The main attraction to this is being able to upgrade Auba to Kane (Likely to be fit) and downgrading Son to Gross in 34 whilst also keeping Lukaku.

Christ or Smalling // Tarkowski // Fernandez // Morgan // Lowton
Salah // Mahrez // Son // Willian // Cork or King
        Lukaku // Auba // Vardy

Yes. But don't forgot Cork will be benched every week and so will one of Barnes/Gross, so it could be more like Christ + Vardy or Alonso + Barnes/Gross.

You make a good point regarding Lei and I'm very aware of that but you only have to look at Alonso's recent returns for a very good counter argument. Tough decision ahead.

It just throws Bailly into the mix.
Is Mustafi Gross Barnes that much better than Bailly Kante Murray?

He did look good going forward @lei in the cup tbh. Below 5 is a punty area for sure so go for it

His three fixtures from 33 are awesome. Just off the back of an assist too. Would be the puntiest of punts though! 😆

9 goals in his last 10 games and people have the cheek to say Lukaku isn’t essential.

Big Rom will punish his doubters.

statistically speaking thats not good enough for someone thats worth £11.4 mil and isnt even your captain. GW34 though everyone will put him in , which makes absolute sense.

His league performances aren't anything to shout about; 4 goals in 11 league games or 6 in 17 games

Gross or Lingard. No free hit. Trailing by 80 by points in mini league. Worried about Lingards pitch time but everybodies got Gross, maybe for a good reason. What are your thoughts on Lingards pitchtime?

Surely if you don’t have FH neither are desirable? Gudmundsson instead?

I have the obligatory non FH 3 Burnley players. Just hoping Lindgard gets pitch time, World Cup and all.

If I had to pick one and was chasing I’d take the risk with Lingard

If you are trailing and need a punt I would make sure that player is nailed. In saying that, Lingard has done superb over the break

Whose he actually competing with apart from Mata. He played 1 min against Liverpool, might be the same in the city game.

On WC with BB in 34 :

    A - Mustafi & Morgan?
    B - Maguire & Stephens/Dunk?
C - Christensen & Morgan? (have Alonso so would be CHE def double up).

    Thanks.

please RMWCT and Kane plan ?

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Smailing Lowton Chilwell 4.5
    Son Mahrez Salah Willian GroB
    Lukaku Auba Barnes

    1.0 itb

    GW33 save
GW34* Auba, Grob to Kane, sub 4.8 DGW midfielder (Ibe, Gosling, Cork etc) - happy with 4 points
    GW35 FH

    * If Kane is not ready, will get Vardy instead

If my plan is to use have 1 spare FT in 34, FH in 35, by 36 - do I get one or two transfers? My view is that I get two?

    So:

    33 - No transfers (save 1FT)
    34: have 2FT but only use 1
    35: FH
    36: 2FT

    Equally if i go:

    33 - No transfers (save 1FT)
    34: have 2FT and use 2FT
    35: FH
    36: 1FT

    Is that correct?

    1. CloudSky
      • 9 Years

Nope. You get one after FH.

          Even if:

          33 - No transfers (save 1FT)
          34: have 2FT and use 1FT
          35: FH
          36: 1FT

Regardless of whether you save 1FT? So if I save one 1FT for 34, FH 35, I get 1 still? So you cannot have 2 regardless after a FH?

Yes, you can not. Same as after WC.

Nope. Thats why i wildcarded now. 2 free transfers before 34 will give me enough time and dosh to assess whether kane should come in for 34

    Walcott Shaqiri Eriksen Salah
    Aubamayang Firmino Deeney
