The Gameweek concludes at Stamford Bridge with a titanic London derby as Chelsea host Tottenham Hotspur in a battle that will surely go a long way to deciding the top four placings.

Ironically, Fantasy managers will be more concerned about a player named on the bench today as Harry Kane makes a shock recovery from an ankle injury to figure in the Spurs squad.

Kane will doubtless see minutes late on, and his return will give us much to consider before a Gameweek 33 visit to Stoke City.

In the meantime, Son Heung-min will continue to lead the Spurs attack having struck four goals in his last two starts. He was the most signed midfielder ahead of Saturday’s deadline, claiming 174,000+ new owners.

But Chelsea have their own in-form midfield option. Willian heads into this match off the back of four goals and three assists from his previous six Gameweek starts; that includes a 33-minute appearance at Watford. The Brazilian was a popular Wildcard target and is backed by 133,000 new owners in today’s clash.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Know it's just a game, but those point for Mustafi and Auba have really ruined what little chance of the final few weeks being interesting. My rivals have played all their chips but are well set for the run in and 80 points ahead after that haul, otherwise it was close...

It looks like the angle of the ball slightly changes after Mustafi but of course it hits Pieters

If I remember the angle the ball goes doesn't matter for assists?

I remember Rooney swinging a corner into the box, the ball getting cleared by a defender and Ashley young or someone scoring from the clearance outside the box and the assist was given?

I've seen worse assists given but if he gets it great, it not, meh

I do think it goes off of his noggin though... Every so slightly

It touches Mustafi on it's way though, notice the change in direction of the ball as it goes to Pieters.

The only debate here is whether Mustafi's intention was to click it on or direct it toward goal.

Opta insisted no touch but even if you argue that is wrong, it's clear just how the ball significantly changed direction from Pieters clearance. There's no question that it's the clearance that takes the ball into Aub's path and that it would not have reached him in that position without that clearance without or without a touch from Mustafi.

If Mustafi's touch is deemed a shot, ironically, it's more likely to be given but it's really impossible to judge that and, after review, Opta were adamant no touch.

          1. Epic Fail
            • 15 Years
            8 years, 9 days ago

However Mustafi intended the ball to go towards Auba. So 'if' he did touch it, it would be his assist.

I don't think we can argue that. It's very difficult to judge the intended target of a flick (unlike a pass and sometimes a cross) and you can see how the direction changes on Pieters' clearance.

In these scenarios Opta and ISM normally ask - will the ball have reached the scorer without the defenders touch? - and in this case, it doesn't look like it would have done.

When players go for flicks, they usually turn their head in the direction of the intended target and Mustafi immediately turns his head towards the direction of Auba. I see what you're saying though, it's almost impossible to give a definitive answer on what his intention actually was. Until they invent mind reading techniques to go along with VAR.

Regardless, they've made a mistake in their analysis as Mustafi does touch the ball. They can be adamant of the earth being flat but it doesn't change facts and the video clearly shows what happened.

Well they've reviewed it and ISM may ask for further reviews but I don't think that will change anything because, even with Mustafi's touch, without Pieters clearance, the ball would not have ended up with Aub. The touch significantly alters the direction of the ball and it's very difficult to argue that Mustafi - even if he touched it - is intending to flick on to the penalty spot area to find the scorer.

          • 11 Years

Yeah, you can only look to read intention when it is really obvious and often that's only on passes and sometimes crosses. On flicks and headers, it's often very difficult. I don't think we can say that Mustafi intends to flick on to find Aub, more likely he's trying to score tbh.

Surely people who work at Opta to decide dubious decisions, people massively interested in statistics and football, wouldnt also be playing FPL, the game about stats and football, thus often rendering them biased /s #justiceforskhodran #optaJoke

Once you start looking into all the smaller, subjective details about the stats like awarding "Big Chances Created" etc you realize its horribly inconsistent and not at all the "objective stats based system" its presented as.

Well not 'lucky' in a literal sense, but what I'm saying is that his haul wasn't down to the stats produced. Arsenal's stats were pretty poor in this game, other than the goals of course.

Haha I agree to be honest but this is the first and last time I will be doing it. Just nice change to see someone beat Salah!
