We’re now just one match from the Premier League title potentially being won, and that fact (or something in the water) seems to have released a maverick streak in at least one of our Scouts.

The ‘expert’ panel of Fantasy Football Scout regulars Mark, Paul and Jonty and Career Hall of Fame dignitary Peter Kouwenberg have mostly gone for the usual suspects this weekend.

Mostly…

Jonty, in particular, seems to have scrunched up the template and lobbed it in the vague direction of the Fantasy bin.

How else to explain his decision to place this season’s points-sponge Mohamed Salah only fourth among his midfield selections?

After tonight’s injury scare at Anfield, it leaves us wondering if Jonty had some kind of premonition.

Nonetheless, it’s a big call, as is his placement of Wes Morgan above Chelsea’s defender-in-name-only Marcos Alonso in his backline picks.

Those two decisions alone should prompt bickering aplenty, relegating the Harry Kane first or second debate to a surprising best supporting role.

All will be revealed in the Scout Picks article later in the week, but for now, here are our panel’s selections and the reasons behind them for you to pick over at your leisure.

Paul Says…

Along with the host of usual suspects, backing Chelsea could be a good move this weekend.

Despite their downturn in form, Antonio Conte’s men have fired more shots (82) and efforts in the box (49) than any side in their last four home matches. Meanwhile, their visitors West Ham are ranked bottom for goals conceded (12) and big chances against (14) in their last four road trips.

With that in mind, Willian and Marcos Alonso get the nod in my squad.

They are ranked first and second for shots on goal for the Blues over the last four, with 13 and nine respectively, whereas Eden Hazard has mustered just three efforts by comparison.

I’m also doubling up on a pair of Watford players who were both among the points last weekend.

The Hornets have won three and drawn one of their four home matches under Javi Gracia, firing 65 attempts on goal – only three sides have managed more over the respective last four in front of their own fans.

Kiko Femenia profited from his out-of-position berth by netting against Bournemouth last time out, while Will Hughes supplied an assist.

When fit, Hughes has made an impact on the Watford attack.

He’s played a part in 50% of their goals when on the pitch, providing two goals and a pair of assists in his five starts. Indeed, with an average of 6.5 points per start, he can benefit from the visit of a Burnley defence with just a single clean sheet in ten attempts.

Peter Says…

Marko Arnautovic and Kiko Femenia came up trumps last time out, and only Glenn Murray’s spot-kick miss and an injury to Junior Stanislas really let me down in a week where the obvious candidates from Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United duly delivered.

Arnautovic and Femenia feature for me again as they continue to thrive in their out-of-position roles.

There are way too many doubts over City’s team selection and United’s approach to the Manchester derby to get involved there. For the record, I expect a strong City line-up and a 2-0 win to seal the title, but it’s definitely not worth the gamble.

In contrast, Mohamed Salah remains a shoo-in for Liverpool for the Merseyside derby, as long as doubts surrounding his Champions League injury scare are resolved. I’m disappointed not to be able to fit Andrew Robertson in too.

Arsenal’s home tie against Southampton and Spurs’ trip to Stoke are the big draws this weekend.

Granted, both the Saints and the Potters are fighting for their lives, but they have been on the receiving end of heavy defeats recently and face two of the top scoring sides in the division.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Harry Kane will surely appear in every Scout selection this week, though there may be more debate over which supporting cast to include – Christian Eriksen, Petr Cech, Ben Davies and Shkodran Mustafi get my vote, despite slight rotation worries for the last two.

I struggled to decide which attacking Brighton and Leicester City players to choose, but the home form of Pascal Gross and Jamie Vardy’s metronome consistency gave them the nod over Murray and Riyad Mahrez.

That may come back to bite me, but I do see the quartet heavily involved as they entertain free-falling Huddersfield and a Newcastle defence which can’t seem to replicate its outstanding home form on the road.

Jonty Says…

Many of last weekend’s Wildcard template players faltered in Gameweek 32, most notably Brighton’s Gross, Chelsea’s Willian, Leicester’s Mahrez and Spurs’ Son Heung-min.

I’m backing all to bounce back in style this time around as they enjoy much-improved fixtures.

Gross should find Huddersfield more obliging visitors than last weekend’s Leicester, given that the Terriers have conceded in all of their last 13 away matches. The German’s 5.9 points average at the Amex Stadium also gives me hope.

Similarly, Mahrez should have more joy against a travelling Newcastle side that has shipped 14 big chances over their last six away days, conceding 10 goals along the way.

Son did at least earn an assist against Chelsea last weekend. With a trip to Stoke he should do far better, particularly as he netted a 16-point haul in the 5-1 reverse fixture.

Willian’s six shots on target over his last four home matches, which is top among Blues assets, also indicates the Brazilian will reward our faith should we select him.

Elsewhere, Aubameyang looks to be the best bet for goals against a woeful travelling Southampton side that conceded three against West Ham last weekend.

If money allows, I’d like to see him paired up front with Kane, who is back from injury and scored a brace in that hammering of Stoke earlier in the season. Son should be an able deputy for Kane if our budget becomes stretched.

Mark Says…

After backing Arnautovic in last week’s Squad and watching him reward my faith, I so wanted to find a spot for him this time around.

It’s not easy to murder my Austrian darling, but while I see him troubling the Chelsea defence, I just can’t back him over my selected midfield five.

Indeed, there are few shocks from me this week, with my only real attacking differential found in my choice of strikers. Josh King just edges Salomon Rondon as my maverick pick having supplied a goal or an assist in each of his last three starts.

In defence, I’m still standing by Harry Maguire. I’m all about shopping for that 15-point holy grail (clean sheet, goal, maximum bonus) and, for me, he remains among the top candidates to provide such a return before the season is out. Newcastle United at home could well be the date in question – the Magpies are another side who have proved vulnerable at set-pieces this season.

Elsewhere, I wonder if Femenia will get the nod this time. On our bench in Gameweek 32, he’s proved his worth with his 8-points and looks a prospect again for the visit of Burnley. The Clarets have form, but Watford are solid at Vicarage Road with just three conceded in their last four at home, picking up two clean sheets. I expect few goals in Saturday’s dead rubber.

The Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 30 will be BigRedDog, who is in his seventh campaign and has finished inside the top 100,000 three times.

The community champion who has the best lead over the Scouts during 2017/18 will win a £100 Amazon voucher (currently we can only offer Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com vouchers).

Last week’s champion, Bolleinho, beat the Scouts 81-74

The one to beat remains Gregor, who achieved victory over the Scouts by a 33-point margin in Gameweek 5.

Personally I wouldn't transfer in Alonso. Saying that I am thinking of getting on my FH chip next week but as a permanent transfer with Chelsea's form and effect it has on the rest of your team I'm not so sure.

For similar reasons I don't understand the love for Willian on here, he was crap against Spurs.

Smalling is a massive rotation risk.

Mahrez and Gross - i'm not feeling it.

I'd prefer Valencia long term to Alonso and Alli on current form.

Those with Kane and Auba, who are you captaining? I'm tempted to risk it on Kane but an Auba haul wouldn't surprise me and it seems counter-productive to take such a risk when Auba has proven his form and could just as easily haul.

I’d love to have the courage. My fear isn’t not a full 90 for Kane. If I get over this fear, or Pochetinno says something about Kane being fully fit, I may switch. Stoke are weak, yet then again, southampton are weak, too, and Arsenal is home.

I'm sitting beyond the 200K rank so it doesn't really matter to me. I need a few big differentials to come in before the season is out and they are becoming harder to find as the season draws to a close.

I compared Eriksen's, Alli's and Son's records in all comps against the teams Spurs still have to play against.
I didn't factor in bonus points but I'm guessing that Eriksen averages the most per game.

Eriksen has 11 goals and 22 assists in 49 games, with 0.67 contributions per game
Alli has 13 goals and 5 assists in 29 games, with 0.62 contributions per game
Son has 12 goals and 6 assists in 29 games, with 0.62 contributions per game

        And of course:
Kane has 33 goals and 7 assists in 44 games, with 0.91 contributions per game

It's also a much longer period of time so it's more impressive that he's managed to keep up that ratio in 20 games more than Alli and Son.

Reposting because I made a mistake previously, and I also wanted to add PL stats:

I compared Eriksen's, Alli's and Son's records against the teams Spurs still have to play against (and threw in Kane's as well).
I didn't factor in bonus points but I'm guessing that Eriksen averages the most per game from the mids.
Also keep in mind that many of Son's apps involved him coming off the bench.

              IN ALL COMPS:
Eriksen has 11 goals and 22 assists in 49 games, with 0.67 contributions per game
Alli has 13 goals and 5 assists in 29 games, with 0.62 contributions per game
Son has 12 goals and 6 assists in 29 games, with 0.62 contributions per game
Kane has 33 goals and 7 assists in 49 games, with 0.82 contributions per game

              PREMIER LEAGUE ONLY:
Eriksen has 9 goals and 17 assists in 43 games, with 0.60 contributions per game (⬇️)
Alli has 13 goals and 5 assists in 27 games, with 0.67 contributions per game (⬆️)
Son has 11 goals and 5 assists in 27 games, with 0.59 contributions per game (⬇️)
Kane has 29 goals and 5 assists in 38 games, with 0.89 contributions per game (⬆️)

If Ryan gets a clean sheet, probably.

                    It's a case of:

                    - A weak defence VS the weakest attack in the league (in terms of number of games failed to score in)
                    - A strong defence VS the strongest attack in the league

I think it's more likely that Huddersfield fail to score than City failing to score, so if you're just going by who is more likely to keep a CS then it has to be Ryan - but at the same time, De Gea will probably beat him in terms of saves and if both of them concede then De Gea will probably outscore Ryan.

I'm going to start Ryan simply because Huddersfield have:
                    - Failed to score in their last 4 games
                    - Failed to score in 18 out of 32 games
                    - Failed to score in 12 out of 16 away games (!)

Hi lads, how does my WC team look (BB on GW34, FH on GW35, TC on GW37)?

                  Ryan-Schmeichel
                  Lowton-Alonso-Robertson-Chilwell-Dunk
                  Salah-Son-Lingard-Willian-Iborra
                  Kane-Aubameyang-Barnes

I'd want DDG in the side with the double double.

Not fancy Vardy with the extra fixtures?

Instead of Auba? Perhaps I use my FT in GW34 to do Auba>Vardy, but Arsenal have Newcastle in gw34 a DGW in 37...

Assuming LIV make it through in the CL, and ARS do the same in the EL, with both having little to play for in the league, surely we will see considerable rotation in GW35 from these two sides. City will almost certainly have the title wrapped up by then also, meaning we’re left with a load of clag to choose from in 35.

I’m therefore thinking it could be a big waste to use the FH chip in 35 - instead it could be better to just field a weakened team in 35 and FH in 37 to get an optimal DGW side with nailed players that have something to play for?

                      Thoughts?

Much harder to field 11 in 35 then.

Yep, I’ve currently got 7 (3 x ARS, 3 x BUR + Salah) so I could use 2FT in 35 to make that 9, which shouldn’t lose much ground given the teams involved.

True. Are you FHing in 35? What’s the likely lineup? Will be tough to call the ARS & LIV line ups given rotation. Triple City looks a given if they’re out of the CL. I guess Tosun, Shaqiri, Coleman/Baines, Zaha etc could be an option

If anyone is thinking of benching Ryan this GW, keep in mind that Huddersfield have failed to score in 12 out of 16 away games. They've played everyone away from home apart from Brighton, Man City and Chelsea and only managed to score against Palace, Watford, Southampton and West Brom in GWs 1, 18, 19 and 28.

Lending is a 4.3 Newc defender.
Chilwell I bought at 4.3 and every .1 is being used.
Bavies is .1 cheaper than Vert.

With the risks or just do 1. ?

Assuming everyone starts I'd prefer 2 probably, but I'd be looking at sacrificing Robertson to save money and keeping Alonso if you can.

If Gundmundsson is fit I would be tempted by B but Davies and Christensen could see some rotation.
But probably will play more minutes than some think imo.

Yeah I don't doubt some rotation but the cheap teams with a double I don't trust to keep CS really.

Sure. I think the Davies risk of rotation stressed a bit too much but of course could be a factor for 34.

Now that it looks like Liverpool will progress in CL... Is dropping Salah more viable now if I’m WC?

Presented this strategy last week and so far am concerned about using TC in GW34. (No Free Hit)

                              GW34 Team (8/9 DGWers)

                              DDG
                              Valencia, Morgan, Lowton
                              Salah/Eriksen, Willian, Arny, Mahrez, Gudmundsson
                              Auba, Lukaku (TC)

GW35 Team (using 2FTs I can field this team, 10/11 players)

                              Dubra

ah fella, that's just far too intricate a post for anyone to dissect.
Keep it simple on here with snappier questions with regards your team.
Would you prefer x and y over a and b etc. You will get more responses.

I’ve been around for years, this is the stuff that gets discussed in the DZ. Nitty gritty details when people have time.

Yeah looks good. However I still think there is too many unknowns to play BB in 37 - there will be enough of surprises in 34 more than likely never mind 37.
I would risk some City mid in 37. Even with league won I can see them ripping some teams apart in those easy fixtures.'

What a performance from Alexander Arnold.
Sane such a dangerous and talented wide man and in a rich vein of form too.
                              TAA conpletely nullified him.

England have a 19 yo RB that looks three times as good as Clyne already.

                              1. Get up ya bum

On WC. Planning BB 34 (and Auba to Lukaku), FH 35, and TC 37. Any suggestions?

Looks very nice. Stand out difference with WC teams this week is that Kane and Kaku are in for 34 not just one.

If Salah looks like he is out for awhile. Alli or Eriksen seem ideal in that spot.
