We move on to our weekly Sky Sports Focus article, taking a look back at the weekend action before preparing you for the incoming Gameweek.

We’ll examine the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries, transfer trends and Watchlist, before moving on to the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 34 Man of the Match Awards

These were the players who caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters and earned an extra five points as a result.

FixtureMoTM
Crystal Palace vs LiverpoolJames Milner
West Brom vs BurnleyAshley Barnes
Newcastle vs HuddersfieldJonjo Shelvey
West Ham vs SouthamptonMarko Arnautovic
Watford vs BournemouthWill Hughes
Man United vs SwanseaAlexis Sanchez
Brighton vs LeicesterKasper Schmeichel
Everton vs Man CityDavid Silva
Arsenal vs StokeAaron Ramsey
Chelsea vs TottenhamChristian Eriksen

It was all about midfield domination last week, with seven of the ten accolades going to the creative men in the middle.

In terms of popularity, Christian Eriksen was the man to make the most impact on rank due to his lofty 18.9% ownership, David Silva coming in second with just 7.4%.

Both Silva and Marko Arnautovic have now hit six MoTM awards for the season.

The Austrian, in particular, looks a great acquisition right now, off the back of a stunning 21 points this week.

He has an individual matchday on April 16 at home to Stoke City, making him a top captain pick, and he’s also a differential, with just 3.2% backing.

Gameweek 34 Bonus Points

Let’s take a look at any player to earn 47 points or more in bonus for the season.

Notes

It’s a tough crowd out there at the moment.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 28 points as captain on Monday night had me thinking I would rise in the ranks, not drop by 28 places.

It could have been even better of course – it was painful to watch as he handed the ball to team-mate Alexandre Lacazette to take the final penalty, denying the Gabonese striker his hat-trick and us the MoTM award that surely would have followed.

Moving forward and now armed with a full TV fixture list, I’m considering some drastic surgery to my team for a final push, although with just six swaps remaining that’s a scary prospect.

I’m thinking of removing Gabriel Jesus, Ben Davies and Theo Walcott this week for Harry Kane, Pascal Gross and Wilfried Zaha. This would leave me with enough in the bank for Roberto Firmino to Romelu Lukaku the following week.

The fact that I’d have just two transfers left to tackle rotation and injuries means it could all backfire, but it allows me to cover all captain matchdays aside from two (West Ham vs Stoke and Everton vs Newcastle) until the season ends.

And it gives me a power frontline of Kane, Lukaku and Aubameyang for the run-in.

Mohamed Salah’s groin tweak may put a spanner in the works here, and Liverpool’s likely progression in the Champions League also raises rotation fears.

But I feel Salah is simply too good to remove, and even if he features in a reduced amount of matches, he could still hurt those who don’t own him.

Captain Plan

Sat April 7 – Harry Kane
Sun April 8 – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    Ryan
    Alonso Mustafi Robertson
    Salah Mahrez Hazard Gudmonsson
    Auba (c) Lukaku Murray

    DDG Morgan Lowton King

Was planning on banking FT but now considering:

    A) Gudmonsson to Mili

Worth it or rely on bench and save FT for Kane next week?

Still have him but I'll probably sell. With the second leg against City on Tuesday, he won't definetely play 90 minutes tomorrow, and he isn't sure to actually play. And he has no dgw on 34, so I guess it's worth to gamble on someone that plays 2 games.

Losing. Won't play in 33 and not captaining in 34. Can get back in 35 on a FH and then evaluate in 36. Points gained in 33 and 34 will more than make up for the .6/7 loss in team value should I decide I need him back.

His golden boot will come below Klopp's target of progressing as far as possible in UCL in terms of priorities. With no DGWs, I can justify getting rid. But if I want Kane (which I do), it has to be at the expense of a quality mid

Just read this comment from Casual rookie Schnauzer a couple pages ago. This actually makes absolute sense right?

"No need to wait news if there is enough data available: Salah is unlikely going to play 90 mins on saturday. Salah is not going to play two games in dgw34. Pool may win City and Salah's minutes can be managed later. FH 35 allows to field Salah. Salah has no double gw37.

What is there to wait for? I believe I can "gamble" and take the risk that he hauls this saturday and Willian fails. Should that happen and both Willian and Kane also fail gw34 (compared to Salah and Auba), my bad."

    1. jumpinjeffflash
      • 12 Years
      7 years, 11 months ago

Yes, it's a really good point about gw35.

I was thinking "well I can bench Salah this week, then maybe he gets minutes in gw34 and gw35" - but if I can replace him with a decent DGW option in 34 and FH him in for 35 then that's a pretty sweet deal.

Obviously weeks 36-38 are gonna be a head-scratcher, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Debating whether to hit the WC button due to injuries.

    I've taken a hit already to get this team - with 11 players already for GW35 (FH GW34) + 1FT in GW35.

    Fabianski (Hennessey)
    Azpi VVD Monreal (Baines Coleman)
    Salah Ozil Mahrez RLC (Shaq)
    Auba Firmino Mounie

Doesn't look too bad, since it has a strong bench, but of course it's not optimal with so much money on bench players with a poor fixture, and with Mounie, Salah and RLC doubts to start.

Do you think I should WC? If so, how does the following WC team look?

    Ryan (McCarthy)
    Alonso Azpi Valencia Maguire (Tarkowski)
    Alli Son Mahrez (Young Matic)
    Kane Vardy Son

Danny Ings and rotation being mentioned in a press conference, it's that time of year again!

So with Salah out, I actually get to play a striker with 4 goals in 4 games that I would have benched otherwise.

    End of streak confirmed.

U get a player in who plays 180 mins more than salah in the next 2 GWs(if he doesn't feature tomorrow). It's like benching salah 2 times. Fh in 35 and i will have him anyway for this gw.

Depends on how much you bought him for.

I got him for 9.1 and selling isn't an option.

With Barnes on 1st bench, its a wait and see here. If I didn't lose any value though he'd be gone.

    WC draft:
    DDG / Ryan
    Christensen / Smalling / Verto / Lowton / Chilwell
    Salah / Mahrez / Willian / Gross / Gudmundsson
    Kane / Kaku / Barnes

    0.4 ITB

    Is this any good ?

If you're chasing in leagues, I'd consider selling Salah and upgrading Christensen.

    Current squad:

    DDG Ryan
    Tark Lowton Dunk Monreal Morgan
    Gross Salah Arnie Gudmondsson Mahrez
    Lukaku Auba Vardy

I have £2m in the bank and had planned to roll the transfer this week and then get Lingard for Arnie and Kane for Auba next week. I could afford to do Arnie to Alli or Son this week and take a hit next week to get Lingard in for Salah to fund Auba to Kane. Worth the move and if so, which Spurs mid out of Alli and Son?

Order of subs causing a big headache... what do you think?

    Courtois
    Chilwell/ Verts/ Lowton
    Salah/ Sterling/ Willian/ Lingard
    Kane/ Auba/ Vardy

    Adrian/ Daniels/ Robertson/ Tarroll

Robertson ahead of Daniels. More likely to pick up an assist than Daniels is to score.

Don't think there's anything that covers that bracket better than Burnley and Leicester really, but I'm guessing you have that covered.

I'd be happy enough doubling on Leicester (Chilwell) if you don't want both Vahrez. If not, and you can bench during bad games, I'd get a cheap Swan for 37.
