A derby draw with West Ham leaves Chelsea ever further from Champions League qualification and their key assets increasingly unattractive for the run-in.

Floating the idea of having little or no Chelsea coverage for the side’s two Double Gameweeks still to come would have probably had you put in the Fantasy stocks not so long ago.

But yesterday’s 1-1 draw was further evidence of a side full of expensive talent not living up to their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tags and with the FA Cup as their only realistic chance of salvaging something from an increasingly forgettable season.

The Blues dominated possession and out-shot their London rivals by 23 efforts to five, but only had Cesar Azpilicueta’s goal, from an Alvaro Morata assist, to show for their supremacy before Marko Arnautovic set up Chicharito to nick an equaliser.

That leaves Antonio Conte’s side ten points from fourth place with just six matches to go, and the coach could be excused for prioritising the FA Cup now, despite a gloomy Azpilicueta’s post-match analysis.

“We will try to win it, but the cup will not save our season.”

The reliable Spaniard’s goal and maximum bonus brought in 11 points for his 20.1% ownership and took him past team-mate Marcos Alonso (19.7%) to the top of FPL’s defenders’ table.

But the Blues backline has now kept just one clean sheet in eight matches, which is slim pickings for their generally inflated price tags, particularly as Alonso’s attacking output has also dried up – he last produced goal or assist returns back in Gameweek 22.

As outlined in Ragabolly’s Metrics article at the weekend, Alonso was the Chelsea Wildcard template defender in Gameweek 32 among managers in the top 100,000, whereas it was Andreas Christensen among those who employed the chip a week later.

Alonso produced two points yesterday, Christensen none at all as he was benched after five straight league starts.

The Dane’s 5.3 price remains attractive – he’s 1.9 cheaper than Alonso – but it counts for nothing without guaranteed pitch-time as Chelsea prepare for Double Gameweeks 34 (sot bur) and 37 (LIV HUD).

The prospects aren’t much rosier further up the pitch.

Eden Hazard is another doing little to justify a premium price tag, in his case 10.7.

The Belgian now has only one assist in five Gameweeks, leaving Willian (7.2) as the value pick – he’s netted twice over the same period and has now started five straight league matches for the first time this term.

The Brazilian was busy against the Hammers, with five shots and six key passes, and is the fourth best midfielder for shots (18) and efforts on target (nine) over Gameweeks 28-32, despite having no Gameweek 31 fixture. Willian remains the most popular Chelsea asset with just under 20,000 transfers in ahead of Gameweek 34.

Alvaro Morata (10.4) started ahead of Olivier Giroud up front again and followed up back-to-back goals in all competitions with an assist yesterday.

That marks the 7.9%-owned striker out as a potential differential for the doubles, although he will surely struggle to displace Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy if he is to make our frontlines for the run-in.

With their second Gameweek fixture at Burnley on Thursday – just three days before Sunday’s semi-final vs Southampton, Conte will be expected to rotate at Turf Moor. The changes could even be extensive should the gap to Spurs in fourth remain or widen before facing the Clarets.

Hazard will surely be one player that Conte considers protecting, with Pedro the likely benefactor. But a rest for the Belgian could well protect Willian’s start, reinforcing his current popularity.

Elsewhere, Chelsea’s teamsheet at Burnley could be very difficult to predict. Factor in the team’s poor form – they’ve won just once in four Gameweeks – and their defensive fragility and their players’ Fantasy prospects are currently the wrong side of underwhelming.

Marko remains the man

Investment in Chelsea players might look fraught, but it still appears wiser than putting your faith in West Ham’s options.

The Hammers’ run-in (STK ars MCI lei MUN EVE) is ugly and their form patchy, with two wins and a draw in their last six matches offset by three thumping defeats.

But there is often an exception to the rule, and in this case, it’s Marko Arnautovic.

The midfielder has thrived in an out-of-position role up front, with his assist yesterday taking him to six goals and five assists from his last ten Gameweek appearances.

He’s owned by only 4.9% and remains a significant differential prospect with a home match against Stoke City up next, even if that fixture is the Hammers’ only match in what is a Double Gameweek for many.

West Ham also have a match in Gameweek 35’s reduced slate against an Arsenal side with Europe on their mind and with a defence that’s just conceded two goals to shot-shy Southampton.

He might struggle to maintain his fine form in Double Gameweek 37’s trip to Leicester City and a visit from Man United, but those who already own the Austrian international will be excused for keeping faith in a player who has served them so well since the turn of the year.

Help needed Please, Was originally planning on BB34 but now with Stephens suspended, I'd need -8 to get 15 Out, Should I now hold BB until gw37 and save FT?

    DDG
    Christensen Lowton Morgan
    Son Mahrez Alli Grob willian
    Barnes Kaku
    Subs: Ryan, Aubu,Mustafi, Stephens*

Still have FH for GW35 but no TC. 1.8 ITB, any suggestions?
    a) Save FT and BB37
    B) Mustafi & Stephens-> Smalling/Vertonghen (-4)
    C)Aubu/Mustafi/Stephens ->Kane,Chilwell,Cedric (-8)

If you think Sanchez is the best C option, I'd get him in. But I'd be loathe to lose Alonso ahead of that double, and I don't trust Smalling to start both games with the semi final in the weekend. Is there nowhere else you can find that million?

    Alonso - Smalling - Morgan - Lowton - Dunk

    1. Just use FT: Gudmundsson to Lingard/Gross (keeping Auba and ignoring Kane)

    2. Take a hit (and play Gudmundsson): Willian/Son to Lindgard/Gross and Auba to Kane

Pretty awful score of 30. But only fell a few hundred places as luckily most of the others in the top 4K also did terribly.

Aubameyang (c) my only scorer. Rest blanked. Cedric third sub - mocking me and those that doubted this dgwk differential enabler.

Rough: Vardy out for Kane (-7), oh and for a hit (-4). Then captained Harry over Aubameyang [who I would definitely have C if didn't make transfer] (-5).

Smooth: Salah out for Milivojevic (+9). So lost 7 points as a result of my transfers. 34 overall, down to 165k OR and lost several places in my main mini-league as well.

I have two United defenders: Bailly and Smalling. Put them as second and third on the bench and I didn’t know who of them to put before the other. I ended up putting Bailly first.
Gudmundsson didn’t play and Salah was first sub, so I got Bailly’s 1 point instead of Smalling’s 7 for just a very arbitrary decision..

Had Robertson Salah Firmino Mee and Niasse in my team. Took the risk of offloading both Salah and Firmino to Alli and Vardy for -4, which fortunately was a net +9 points. However, Mee's injury, Bavies rotation and Ibe last minute illness meant I only had 9 players (including 0 for Maguire). 37(-4) wasn't the worst result in the world but what a sorry way to exit LMS having come so far, by 1 point.

Didn’t see Berb’s post on predicted line up so kept hold of Firmino, I kept Salah too but was going to regardless.

So 1 point from Firmino but Milivojevic came on for Salah.

And boy is it impossible to pick Spurs mids. After having Eriksen over Son for a few weeks I switched to Son on wild card. Grrr

      2) Alli/Auba(c) made the overall score respectable

      Rough:

Rough: sold Sanchez+VVD as a part of -12 transfers to fund sir Harold, there was some logic behind it, ManU away to City, Merseyside derby so I was expecting both teams to score etc. but of course it backfired completely.

Brought in Kane, Willian, Schelotto, Kenedy so I was expecting some returns from first three at least, you know the rest 😛

Overall lost about 30-35 points, the only reason I made all these transfer was trailing my ML 3rd place by 30pts, I wanted to make some ground, we are all work collegues, so there's some personal business 🙂

BTW my ML leader who's 26th OR (yes 26 not 26k) apart of being very lucky this season, he's so calm and patient, he just bought Eriksen before GW, everything he touches is gold this year.

Only players getting points were Auba & Vardy.
(The rest scoring ones and twos)

      - Smalling third sub

55 points was great with Vardy captain, Eriksen and Azpil. Also my plan to ignore all Liverpool and Man City a couple of weeks back and load team with DGW players in wildcard for both 34 and 37 is so far on track.

Rough - same as everyone else - 1 and 2 pointers and Smalling 2nd sub and Cedric 3rd sub!! Aghh!

      Smooth:

Had 0.5m left over on my wildcard all week. Couldn't think for the life of me how to spend it and thought I'd end up having to keep it in the bank.

Then I changed my team at the last minute to upgrade Alli to Eriksen, mainly for security of starts. He made the difference between a 34 and a 43 point score.

      Rough:

Christensen. I hope his benching will guarantee two starts in the DGW. I was praying for a West Ham goal and a less than convincing Cahill performance. Maybe it's a GW34 smooth in waiting.

37 points so kind of meh but not a disaster, no.

i guess my smooth this week was saving a transfer-)

and Kane losing his goal (i didn´t watch at the time only heard the commentator screaming Kane) so that was actually ok
cs was actually a little let down as i saw all my defence as having decent chances of cs and ended u with zero so borderline rough i´d say

My midfielders could be said to be rough but at the same time, Mahrez got robbed of a certain pen, Son missed a couple and how Willian ended up with two points is beyond my imagination, how is that even possible? Gross close to a assist on march goal. went from 77k to 73k so all in all ok ish

      Smooth:
Decided not to get rid of Salah and Firmino, despite the leaked team sheet. Banked my transfer and hid behind the sofa during the Spurs game.
      Somehow, lady luck smiled !!!
Gudmondson (first bench) didn't play, so I got Cedric's 9 points from second bench for Salah.
And then Christiensen was rested so I got Smalling's 7 points from 3rd Bench.
Ended up with 48 points, and a much needed extra FT for the double

    30. Deulofail

      Rough:

My plan was to save the WC and FH in GW34 (I already had 11 players for GW35), but I also had injuries to Stanislas, Mkhitaryan and Salah, with seemingly poor options on the bench in Shaqiri, Coleman and Baines. I initially took a hit to try and remedy the situation, but after seeing the leaked Liverpool lineup, I saw that Firmino was also chosen for a rest, which caused me to quickly WC-in the price-risers on Friday night as I was going out the door for drinks.

The bad news is that Shaqiri, Coleman and Baines returned 17pts between them. I also sold VVD (6pts), Captain Aubameyang (12pts), and Mounie (7pts). So I sold 3 clean sheets for zero, and switched my captain's return for Kane's double 1-pointer, among other woes.

      Smooth:

Actually my pre-WC team only just outscored my actual WC team ❗ by virtue of the dreadful hit I took before I activated the WC:

      Mkhi + Stanislas > RLC + Ozil (-4) 😆

Ozil didn't show up, which would have allowed my third sub, Coleman, to come off the bench.

So, regrettably, I set the alarm on Saturday morning to give me 60 mins to panic-assemble my WC team. I made 2 transfers as soon as I woke up, nothing more for an excruciating 55 minutes of hungover tinkering, and then 20 seconds before the deadline, I made the lucky move that ended up saving me from massive disappointment:

      Maguire + Tarkowsky + Barnes + ALLI > Simpson + Kiko + Wood + ERIKSEN

The latter outscored the former by 9pts (feels huge, anyway!), giving me a total of 49pts for my WC team compared to the 52pts I would have got (after my dreadful hit) if I didn't activate the WC.

Other smooths were Azpilicueta and Vardy's goals. It would have been nice if Kane's goal was given since Captain Kane was something of a differential.

Overall, I am happy that I only lost 3pts this WC compared to 30pts lost with the first WC this season! 😆

      TL;DR

      - Rough: Would have scored more if I didn't WC 🙂

Took out Salah for Alli despite talking up Eriksen all week.. so only made 4 points on that (as first sub King got 2). Still relatively happy with the decision I think... the extra games were too appealing to resist.

Vardy, Aub (c), everyone else blanked - but still enough for a small green to 2.3k.

Sorry Jonty, I can't do justice to my gameweek in the usual format so I need to take some literary liberties.

It was a dark and stormy Saturday morning. My midfield was already decimated by injuries to gw31 legends Stanislas and Choupo-Moting. A leaked Liverpool line up featured neither Salah nor Firmino. I was looking at playing 10 men, 2 of whom would be defenders from Stoke and Southampton against the notoriously goal hungry attacks of Spurs and Arsenal. I had to act.

"Pick me! I want to impress against the club that refused to pay the modest salary I requested", said Alexis Sanchez.

"Pick me! I will work my ass off for my beloved David Moyes", said Marko Arnautovic.

"Pick me! I can't be hassled to sprint more than once per week but I score as often as Sergio Aguero when I'm on the pitch", said Charlie Austin.

"What about me?", said Harry Kane. "I know I didn't do too well when I was last semi-fit in gw22, but I am super fit now, pinky promise!"

They were so persuasive that I had to pick them all. Except Kane, who just seemed liable to lie on this particular weekend.

Salah, Firmino and Stanislas > Alexis, Arnautovic and Austin.

Saturday was almost ruined by Josh Kings benching and Kane trying to steal my Christian Eriksens goal. In the end, justice prevailed and they returned me 20 points between them.

On Sunday, Charlie Austin kept his promise.

But even after my 8 point hit, Nacho Monreal’s no show resorted to my Southampton defender coming in from the bench. His name was Cedric Soares.

(TLDR: Took a 8 point hit to bring in Alexis (10), Arnie (5) and Austin (5), captained Auba (6), got Cedric (9) off the bench and further goals from Eriksen and King for a 68-8 and a rank increase from 73k to 39k.)

      Smooth!

Decided against re-signing Kane and stuck with Vardy and Lukaku. Also have Eriksen.

Went with Vardy captain. I saw the notification that Kane had scored but missed the notification that it had been awarded to Eriksen.

My main mini league rival went with Kane captain. So after 88 minutes I thought Kane had scored and Vardy hadn't. Within a couple of minutes Vardy scored and I found out the Kane 'goal' had been awarded to Eriksen.

Throw in a Van Dijk clean sheet and assists from Sane and Shaqiri = 57 points and overturned a 34 point deficit on my main mini league rival to lead by 2 points.

Can't wait for end of the season. Ended up with pathetic 29 points. My whole defence got 6 points, whilst Smalling and Cedric points stayed on my bench.

Like most you of I played my WC in GW32 with the plan to bank my transfer in 33 to have 2 transfers for 34 here is my team for 33

      Total points: 17

      Ryan
      Monreal Lowton Vertonghen
      Salah (C) Willian Son Mahrez
      Murray Firmino Lukaku
Bench: De Gea, Morgan, Gudmundsson, Stephens

Banking my transfer meant keeping Gudmundsson Salah and Firmino which I didn't think was a big issue as my team was build for bench boost so should have the depth to cover it. Well... Morgan came in for Salah with an amazing 1 point (not the end of the world) and thankfully I had given Mahrez the vice captaincy who did really well with 2 points, Gudmundsson did not play a minute and then Wenger decided to play a second string side that lead to my third sub (Stephens) heroically leaping off the bench with a beautiful -2. It wasn't all doom and gloom I chose Ryan over De Gea which got me 3 instead of 2!

Smooth: deciding to not chase last weeks points and get Eriksen instead of Alli for Salah.

Rough: Having to figure out what's more important between having Salah from 35 and onwards, or having Kane from 36 and onwards, or whether taking -4 is worth it to do both.

Rough - Bench Order,, which I actually gave a good hard think about as obviously Salah was not going to play, only got Lowton pts

      Lowton (1)
      Cedric (9)
      Cork (10)

      Rough:

8 players scored 2 points or less
      Chose Alli over Eriksen.

      Smooth:

      Auba (c) scores again
      Vardy scores again
      7 points above average
      7th successive green arrow
Salah to Alli - so far so good.

Made my transfer at 11:29 - Salah > Eriksen. Vardy and Auba (C) got me to 50 points. Cedric 3rd on the bench though.

Didn't do as well as my mate who captained Eriksen AND had Smalling and Cedric come on for Ibe & Christensen (And over took me) He got 71!

Smooth; Auba(c), Sterling assist, 9 points out of Mersey derby from Walcott & VvD. 39 all done.

Rough; Alonso conceding when my rival had Christiansen with Smalling subbing off the bench...

Up 5k back inside top 50k at 47k.

      Soooooooooooo rough.

After having the captaincy on Auba for the majority of the week decided to tinker with my team on Saturday morning to see if I should bring in Kane for Salah.

By 11.25 I decided this could work long term, but then had to deal with a minor family emergency. By 11.30 I panicked and confirmed transfers without checking- Kane came in for Auba as captain!

Stayed positive until about 4pm "After review, the Premier League Match Centre has awarded Spurs’ 2nd goal to Christian Eriksen".

      Net points 16...

Sorry I was trying to keep my post short and sweet.

The long boring version was Lukaku + Salah to Kane + random mid likely to do well GW 33 to 36. I actually did some future transfers up to GW36 to consider likely team make-up, money ITB, possible price rises, likely hits etc etc so in the end the team I confirmed actually more resembled my planned GW34 team instead of my actual GW33 team...

Salah to Eriksen. That transfer alone gave me a decent green arrow.

The rough edge of Monreal and Bavies no-shows considerably smoothened by the Vertonghen / Mustafi 2-pointers.

    59. OlivierGiroudsHair

Got 16 points, 20 with a -4. The hit was for Kane who I captained and brought in for Vardy. Literally nobody in my whole squad did anything (unless we're counting Ryan's save point). Fell from ~20k to ~40k so can only be thankful it happened on a low scoring week, still an FPL nightmare though.

      12 point hit

Brought in Kane (c), Wood, Mahrez, Morgan, Christensen

They all blanked. Christensen didn’t play. Had Stephens last on my bench, but was planning on playing bench boost next week and I’ll need to remove him for another hit, as I also still own Stanislas.

On the plus side, no Christensen meant Cork came off my bench with 10.

      Owned Eriksen, VVD, Milivojevic.

Scored 53 (41 net) and a green arrow.

      I had an 18 point Wildcard. ID = 42135

      Hennesy (DeGea)
      Vertonghen, Maguire, Mustafi (Morgan, Lowton)
      Lingard, Son, Willian, Gross, Mahrez
      Kane, Lukaku, (Barnes)

Best score possible would have been 20, with Barnes in for Lukaku and Morgan/Lowton for Maguire.

Very happy before the matches started. 0.0 left in the bank, all set up, lots of good players. Front line from the Scoutcast; I couldn't come up with anything superior. And yet, 18 points. Under 50k for six year running, now 666,515. I hate this season. Can't quit, still trying, but feck off 2017-2018!

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 34

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will be selected at random at 8:30am Wednesday and then asked to submit their XI by 10am by Friday by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual in the Scout Picks article.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

I wouldn't say you have a higher chance of beating them, but you do have a higher chance of beating them by a large margin if you get your picks right.

Who would you rather have for the 2 DGWs?

    A) Bong/Schelotto (cpl+TOT, MUN+mci)
    B) van der Hoorn* (EVE, bou+SOT)
    C) Ogbonna/Masuaku (STO, lei+MUN)
    D) Kiko (hud, NEW)

    *If passed fit this week

A - You get an extra fixture, but a CS away to Palace is far from guaranteed. However, the difficult second DGW isn't so important, since I might be able to bench the player.
B - Boring pick, but probably the best fixtures.
C - I'd like Masuaku tbh, but the fixtures are putting me off. I suppose United at home isn't as bad as it could be.
D - Leaning towards Kiko, though I may be underestimating the power of appearance points. RMT really doesn't like him, though. Perhaps due to recent injury?
