FFS Cup

Fantasy Football Scout Fifth Round Draw

We’re down to the last 32 in our Fantasy Football Scout Cup tournament and can now reveal not only the victors from round four but also the fifth round draw.

As we know, Gameweek 33 was a torrid affair which produced the lowest average score (32 points) of the season so far. It also put paid to one of the two top-ranked managers remaining in the cup.

Leaf – who ranked 55 in the world prior to last weekend – took a four-point hit to record a modest 34 score. He was somewhat unfortunate to come up against ChrisVD who recorded the highest score (57) in the entire fourth round. The latter also spent points on an extra transfer but mustered a hugely impressive tally thanks to a Spurs midfield partnership of Dele Alli – as captain – and Christian Eriksen.

While Leaf toppled out, the other high-flying manager – Always Captain Kun – earned his passage to the fifth round with a 34-30 victory over Le Tigre and maintained a rank of 65th in the world. They must now be considered the early favourite to lift the trophy but must be wary of their next opponent. Norman conquest lies in wait in the last 32 and, while they are placed 46,709 in the world, they are renowned giant killers in this cup having previoulsy eliminated the 48th ranked thisisdiz in round three.

Round four’s lowest ranked manager – TD7242 (699,646) – was unable to maintain their cup run after recording a calamatous 20 points from Gameweek 33. It was a familiar tale of taking a points hit to capture and captain Harry Kane, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang their only player to score more than two points. TD7242 tumbled out to Batmaniac, who scored 33 to claim passage.

That means that jaycar25 is now the big underdog heading into the next round. They are placed 339,188 in the world and will face 2eyedTurk next; they currently place 34,464 in the overall rankings.

The fifth round will be played out over Gameweek 34, which as we know, is a Double Gameweek with many chips in play.

The full fourth round results can be found here, while the fifth round draw in full can be found here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    DDG Ryan
    Alonso Mustafi Morgan Lowton Vert
    Son Mahrez Gross Willian Salah
    Auba Vardy Barnes

    1.2itb 2ft

Complete loss and going round in circles. Can anyone suggest better moves than my original plan (Auba/Mustafi to Smalling/Kaku for free)? Naturally I want sufficient Kane and Utd cover ideally.

I have similar issues and 'no Kane' fear

Currently planning to go with this team on BB:

      0FT £0.7itb
      DDG, Ryan
      Alonso, Vertonghen, Morgan, Lowton, Mustafi
      Salah, Mahrez, Son, Willian, Mili
      Lukaku (C), Vardy, Barnes

Clearly I'm nervous that Son isn't enough but to get Kane I would need to stretch to -8 and downgrade Alonso, Son or Mahrez which doesn't feel good!

It looks good on paper - as you say, purely Kanefear.

Same Dilemma, will have to lose son for Kane which I'm not fond of.. If you had Kane and Kaku, who would you captain? If Kaku, just do the Kaku move and forget about Kane

With my hit this week in gonna hit 100 points of hits for the season. Playing risky is fun when it pays off but looking through my history it's often been the case that the players coming off my bench would have outscored the ones I got in anyway....
First season of taking fpl seriously has taught me a lot. Gambling on differential captains and taking multiple points hits is not condusive to success...
What did you guys all learn in your first few seasons and what has your experience taught You?

Well this is my first season. I am currently on -128 in hits and thinking about taking another -8 to get Lukaku and Valencia in.

Most of my hits have been great. (did -8 to get Sanchez and Auba in before GW32 and did -8 last week to get rid of Salah and Firmino. Brought in Eriksen and Alli)

But I have to agree. Those in top5K probably did not take -100 or more in hits this season 😀

I just hate playing this game if I have to bench 10m players due to rest/injuries. I would rather just sell them and hope for the best 😉

i've been playing for 12 years and still take plenty of hits, because it's normally more fun that way - i could take less hits and have better OR, but i don't think i would enjoy it so much with less interaction

it's a game, so we should all enjoy it in our own way

Original plan was to get Lukaku in but having second thoughts. Thinking Sanchez in instead with Kane? Any ideas?

    2FTs, 1.3m in the bank... FH35...

    De Gea Ryan
    Christensen Morgan Dunk Lawton Cedric
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian GroB
    Aubameyang Vardy Barnes

Sounds good. I would probably do that if i could. But I'll need to take a -8.

      Think you'll need to too.

      Who would you downgrade?

    my team:

    DDG - Fabianski
    Tark - Smalling - Robertson - Chilwell - Naughton
    Son - Salah - Mahrez - Wiliian - McArthur
    Lukaku - Kane - Barnes

    for GW34:
    DDG*
    Smalling* - Robertson - Chilwell*
    Son* - Salah - Mahrez* - Willian*
    Lukaku* (C) - Kane* - Barnes*

Bench: fabianski - tark* - naughton - mcArthur

    * --> Double GW.
No bonus to play and i have -8(alonso, jones, davies, firmino --> smalling, chilwell, naughton, kane).

    for GW35 i'l have:
    Fabianski
    tark - naughton - robertson
    salah - mc arthur
    barnes

maybe i can do a change to peak auba or city (lukaku or kane).

Is this sensible or stupid for a -8 this week? Got just enough to do this.

    Kane
    Sanchez
    Lingard

        Do have FH in 35.

Agree with your point, but not prepared to give up Vardy and want Kane + a Man Utd attacker. Can't really see another way to do this.

Could just use 2 FTs and get in Kane and Lingard for Auba and Willian/Son

How many of the DG34 & 37 defenders look to be likely to play 2 this week?

It doesn't seem like there are a lot of options to be enthused about. Either rotations or bad fixtures or bad form.

I would say only certain ones are

      Azpi
      Vert
      Maguire
      Morgan
      Valencia

Think saints and Burnley will play normal players in both. No reason not to. Saints can't afford to rotate.

Burley don't double (and their GW35 game doesn't matter due to FH).

And Southampton form a worry even if double fixtures aren't overly onerous.

I'm as worried as anyone, but I've just checked and Alonso has NEVER been rested in the league. He's only ever missed games through minor injuries.

How at risk is he? What does Conte have to gain from blooding the new guy? He's not going to be there next season anyway.

Anyone for a bit of Ward-Prowse? Been burnt before but he could be a makeweight for Sanchez or Kane. Hughes tried a 3-4-2-1 against Arsenal and they did reasonably well it seems (didn't see the game). He had one of the attacking midfield spots in that system. He also has a great set piece delivery and takes both corners and free kicks for them.

Southampton being in a pretty urgent situation will hopefully force them attack a bit, even if they have been awful so far perhaps Hughes might get them to spark (sorry - pun). Bournemouth at home in 36 is a bonus for free hitters and they do have another double if all goes well.
