Target men emerge from the bench to share the spoils at the London Stadium as Peter Crouch and Andy Carroll put the much-fancied Marko Arnautovic in the shade.

Arnautovic boasted nine goals and five assists from his last 14 Gameweek starts before Monday’s game and had been involved in 54% of West Ham’s goals over the season.

True to form, Arnautovic was a threat throughout the clash with Stoke and was only denied a goal when adjudged marginally offside after guiding home an Aaron Creswell centre.

The Austrian had fired another two shots from inside the box before that incident but could not break the resolve of his former club. Instead it took the introduction of Carroll to rescue a point for West Ham.

The blank will come as a major blow to the 5.7% who took Arnautovic into the match as a single Gameweek asset, particularly in light of his schedule of fixtures to come.

West Ham have a Double Gameweek 37 – with match-ups at Leicester City and a home encounter with Manchester United. But, before that, they go to Arsenal and host Manchester City in matches that seem unlikely to give up too many opportunities for goals and points.

Nonetheless, given that Arnautovic offers a Gameweek 35 fixture away to the Gunners, he will likely be held and may continue to attract extra investment. He has already gained just over 8,500 owners since Saturday’s deadline.

Arsenal have kept two clean sheets over their last three on home turf, though incredibly those are their only shut-outs in 15 Gameweek outings.

In addition, Arsene Wenger’s side remain distracted by their Europa League campaign and again look set to rest players in Sunday’s fixture given that the semi-final first leg tie with Atletico Madrid arrives four days later.

The bigger issue for Arnautovic could be the availability of both Carroll and Chicharito, who were introduced on Monday as David Moyes chased the game.

Should they be considered for starts, Arnautovic could move back alongside the fit-again Manuel Lanzini in support behind a lone striker.

Hart at fault once more

Elsewhere, Joe Hart’s slip for Stoke’s goal could put an end to his four-match run of starts – it was the keeper’s second error leading to a goal over four appearances since replacing Adrian in Gameweek 30.

At just 4.2, Hart could yet provide the cheapest active goalkeeper option for Double Gameweek 37 but his security of starts and points potential are certainly both in question.

Meanwhile, Aaron Cresswell continues to catch the eye on the left side of the Hammers’ back three, having produced four shots on goal and eight crosses – a match-high in both cases. One of those deliveries supplied Carroll’s goal to give Cresswell a seventh assist of the season – a tally matched only by Ben Davies among FPL defenders.

More save points for Butland

At the opposite end of the pitch, Stoke City’s Jack Butland is now a short-term target ahead of Gameweek 35.

He and the Potters line-up were auditioning for spots in Free Hit squads ahead of a crucial home meeting with in-form Burnley.

Carroll’s late effort denied Butland a clean sheet, leaving him with just one in the last nine Gameweeks. However, over that spell, Butland has made 50 saves – including five on Monday – gathering 13 extra points, that’s more than any other goalkeeper in both cases.

In attacking areas, Stoke’s options surely remain limited to Xherdan Shaqiri, who appears the most likely to generate points from his No 10 role.

An assist for the Crouch goal was the playmaker’s eighth of the campaign and Shaqiri also claimed two bonus points, his first since Gameweek 28.

Indeed, the Swiss midfielder is now without a goal in six starts having struck three in three Gameweeks prior to that drought.

how much of a strop do you think Harry the fibber would throw if he was told he was being rested for the FA cup?

reckon it would be worse than a screaming child throwing themselves to the ground in the supermarket after being told they weren't allowed their favourite cereal

I think the fact he's played Tuesday and not Wednesday and Thursday is encouraging, perhaps more likely to get 70 and come off

I was just saying the same thing. It makes playing well all season a bit of a farce when a few gw's decide everything.

Essentially anyone who has used their chips at any other point this season is at a massive disadvantage.
They should be called the GW34, 35 and 37 chips.

    How’s this look?

Just think City will score more goals and he will be involved in most of them. If he starts, Mane, like many times already this season, will be the first of the 3 to be subbed out.

How's this lot looking for FH?

Unlikely to be around for leaked 'Pool lineup from Anfield Express so need to go with the players I think are more likely to play - this is why I've dropped Bobby in favour of Mané who had limited mins last game

    £0.6itb
    Pickford
    VVD, Kompany, Coleman
Salah, Sterling (C), Mané, Zaha, Arnie
    Auba, Jesus

    (Nordfeldt) (Perez, Tomkins, Long)

Alternative is Kompany, Coleman, Arnie >>> Lascelles/ Ward, Baines, Sané
(Basically it's City 1x def 1x mid vs 2x mid)

    Thoughts?

So frustrating looking at my team for next week. I used my FH chip earlier in the season without looking up what it actually meant. I thought it was literally just you could make one extra hit that week for free...

Currently sitting in top 10k but I have a feeling I'm going to seriously drop in rank next GW..

In light of how important these chips have become, do you think it takes a lot away from the rest of the season? essentially, making a few wrong moves around this time of year, TC, FH, WC, etc.. is now the real decider of the game as opposed to good all season long choices.

I appreciate it probably sounds like sour grapes ha ha.

With planning you can still field 9-10 players next week and the free hit impact will be negligible. I played it ages ago as well, was fine in gameweek 31 and am confident for 35 as well. Not the end of the world man hope you finish well!

Yeah, the error I made was playing BB 34 without FH chip. it means I essentially only have 3 starting players next week. I do at least have 2 free transfers for next week but still not great.

I have a feeling all their good players are going to be rested heavily now after winning premier league and being knocked out of Champions league. they have all looked exhausted recently.

I'll probably get Erikson and another and just keep my fingers crossed.

At the very least I have the 11 DGW players for GW37 I want

          • 14 Years

No, the error was loading up on DGW players with a BGW in 35 in order to play BB. You can play BB without 15 DGW players

      2. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years

IMO it is not about getting 9 10 players in GW35. Anyone can do that. It is the choices. You have to have City Arsenal assets for the DGW to come. Most importantly one is being forced to make choices.

Arsenal are not the best choice imo, its auba and no one else for me, I'm getting sterling as well. Agree that any old 9-10 players isn't enough but picking players well is what the game is all about!

Rest them for what? Sure might be some rotation but see no different to any other team with little to play for and let’s be honest pretty much everything has been decided...top 4/ relegation. Was just one example though. Bring in guys you think will do well to end of season and have them in place for rest of season

Yeah maybe.. Liverpool and Spurs and Man U are still fighting to avoid 4th place IMO. I would want 3 Man U and 3 Spurs till the end. I'd go for 3 Liverpool if it wasn't for DGW 37.

Looking to people's FH team, I wonder why people prefers Robertson over TAA.

    I prefer TAA cuz:

    1. TAA is cheaper
    2. As Gomez and Clyne are injured. So less rotation risk then Robertson.

Can you tell your argument for Robertson.

        not anymore

can´t see many strikers in prem league that is better, if say looking at top 6 teams, i would say Kane, maybe Aguero, and on potential based, Jesus. Aubyemang is a goalscorer but nothing else imo, and nowadays strikers are also measured in other ares than just goals. That puts Lukaku far behind, the reasoning is that his weaknesses does put limitation in the way the team he plays for play their game. Morata has a lot of qualities but lacks physicality and perhaps mental strength. Suarez is pretty similar to Firmino, Lewandowski of course. I take the kind of strikers like Messi, Salah Griezmann out of equation as i think they are different kind of strikers. If i had to set up a list i would prob say Lewa, Kane and after that i can´t see any that better Firmino. Aguero maybe, but he doesnt do half the work Firmino does in defense and to me that is as important as the amount of goals they score.

Not the role of a top flight CB to make tackles. Look at the rest of the players on that list.

Liverpool and City mids and attackers rank highly, because their managers make them press from the front. Otherwise the most tackles are from FBs and DCMs

so the arguments for getting rid of VAR completely are essentially 'what will happen to the banter down the pub about all the rubbish ref decisions???' and "what are the fan supposed to do in the MINUTES while the right decision is made when they could be watching a player run towards the corner flag for ten mins or yet another throw in"

Keep the goal line technology, leave the rest. It's the best for this sport- IMO.

I think it's a fair argument. Part of football is enjoyment and a large part of that enjoyment is talking about wrong decisions and getting caught up in the moment.

no other sport in existence cares about this stuff and if it dissappeared from football we wouldnt either..why not enjoy the actual sport being played fairly. was it enjoyable for a saints fan at the weekedn to see a player who should have been sent off help the opposing team win and possibly relegate their team? the spurs city game was killed off by a pen that was clearly outside the box..yet this is deemed enjoyable for fans to talk about??

Where does it end? Do we start using VAR for every single decision, just incase its wrong? An incorrectly given throw in during the first minute of the game can be the butterfly effect in changing the end result. Games will last for about 7 hours.

Or at the very least, eradicate all the bits people hate e.g blatant diving

It definitely makes it more fair. Nobody can dispute that, the problem is where do we draw the line.

i don't see the problem so much as VAR itself, but more the way it has been employed - some VAR decisions have been wrong, or at least no better than a ref's instant decision, and it has been used on the wrong occasions - if they can make better use of it, it might work, but needs some polishing in the way it's used and when it's used

no of course not, but something crucial in a game ref isnt clear about or cant see at a critical moment (things happen so fast in a split second that the human eye just isnt capable of assessing properly, like a serve in tennis) . A dive for a pen, a really bad tackle, whether inside or outside the box..it doesnt take that long in rugby , why should football be any different? it is beyond ridiculous not to want this in the game .there are things that need to be fixed of course to make it run smoother... but we are living in the stone ages if we scrap this based on early trials. just for example...that mata goal was 100percejnt offside and the decision was correct irrespective of all the stupid pics provided. but all people concentrated on were the pics and not the right decision being made and thats how it has been played out in general in the media and led to a lot of people making these judgements

The most annoying waste of time in football is when someone gets substituted when their team are winning and they take about a minute to dawdle off - just get off the pitch you twat.

    Pope, Hennessey
Smalling, Robertson, Lowton, Van der Hoorn, Morgan
    Salah, Sterling, Mahrez, Son, King
    Lukaku, Aubameyang, Firmino

    2FT, 0.0 in bank

No FH, so need to pick players who (1) have a GW35 fixture, (2) will be good thereafter the run-in.

    Lukaku & Mahrez/Son --> Jesus & Zaha a good use of my 2 FTs?

Terrible WC33 and BB34 looking average. How about the FH35 (25pts off ML leader, who has no FH):

    Cech
    Otamendi Long Tarkowski
    Mane Salah Sterling Zaha (Mili)
    Firmino Jesus Aubameyang

Hoping for Pool team news as they KO at 12:30.

    Anything missing?

Perhaps Ota > TAA/Robertson and Mane > Sane/KDB, depending on lineups...

Last Week pep said he had “14 fit players” to choose from for Spurs.

Aguero, Mendy, Fernandinho and Stones were ruled out

People thinking/worrying about rotation this week, it’s probably not going to happen

The injured players, if fit, won’t start and Fernandinho is still suspended

There are no new players to give a chance too and Fidel and Diaz won’t start
