Target men emerge from the bench to share the spoils at the London Stadium as Peter Crouch and Andy Carroll put the much-fancied Marko Arnautovic in the shade.

Arnautovic boasted nine goals and five assists from his last 14 Gameweek starts before Monday’s game and had been involved in 54% of West Ham’s goals over the season.

True to form, Arnautovic was a threat throughout the clash with Stoke and was only denied a goal when adjudged marginally offside after guiding home an Aaron Creswell centre.

The Austrian had fired another two shots from inside the box before that incident but could not break the resolve of his former club. Instead it took the introduction of Carroll to rescue a point for West Ham.

The blank will come as a major blow to the 5.7% who took Arnautovic into the match as a single Gameweek asset, particularly in light of his schedule of fixtures to come.

West Ham have a Double Gameweek 37 – with match-ups at Leicester City and a home encounter with Manchester United. But, before that, they go to Arsenal and host Manchester City in matches that seem unlikely to give up too many opportunities for goals and points.

Nonetheless, given that Arnautovic offers a Gameweek 35 fixture away to the Gunners, he will likely be held and may continue to attract extra investment. He has already gained just over 8,500 owners since Saturday’s deadline.

Arsenal have kept two clean sheets over their last three on home turf, though incredibly those are their only shut-outs in 15 Gameweek outings.

In addition, Arsene Wenger’s side remain distracted by their Europa League campaign and again look set to rest players in Sunday’s fixture given that the semi-final first leg tie with Atletico Madrid arrives four days later.

The bigger issue for Arnautovic could be the availability of both Carroll and Chicharito, who were introduced on Monday as David Moyes chased the game.

Should they be considered for starts, Arnautovic could move back alongside the fit-again Manuel Lanzini in support behind a lone striker.

Hart at fault once more

Elsewhere, Joe Hart’s slip for Stoke’s goal could put an end to his four-match run of starts – it was the keeper’s second error leading to a goal over four appearances since replacing Adrian in Gameweek 30.

At just 4.2, Hart could yet provide the cheapest active goalkeeper option for Double Gameweek 37 but his security of starts and points potential are certainly both in question.

Meanwhile, Aaron Cresswell continues to catch the eye on the left side of the Hammers’ back three, having produced four shots on goal and eight crosses – a match-high in both cases. One of those deliveries supplied Carroll’s goal to give Cresswell a seventh assist of the season – a tally matched only by Ben Davies among FPL defenders.

More save points for Butland

At the opposite end of the pitch, Stoke City’s Jack Butland is now a short-term target ahead of Gameweek 35.

He and the Potters line-up were auditioning for spots in Free Hit squads ahead of a crucial home meeting with in-form Burnley.

Carroll’s late effort denied Butland a clean sheet, leaving him with just one in the last nine Gameweeks. However, over that spell, Butland has made 50 saves – including five on Monday – gathering 13 extra points, that’s more than any other goalkeeper in both cases.

In attacking areas, Stoke’s options surely remain limited to Xherdan Shaqiri, who appears the most likely to generate points from his No 10 role.

An assist for the Crouch goal was the playmaker’s eighth of the campaign and Shaqiri also claimed two bonus points, his first since Gameweek 28.

Indeed, the Swiss midfielder is now without a goal in six starts having struck three in three Gameweeks prior to that drought.

Read somewhere that Mourinho will probably start with many of the same players as on sunday.

I've heard the opposite, apparently Mourinho said that many players that played (?) against Wes Brom is not good enough to play on Sunday so he will play them against Cherries and rest his "better" players for FA Cup.

Already have Sterling. Should I go for

    a. Alonso > Ota
    or
    b. Son > Sane?

Alonso > Ota would enable me to do Lukaku > Kane for gw36 easily.

All this rotation is probably going to make GW37 a lot harder. Don’t think I’ll be taking more than one hit for GW37.

Best is to stick with what you have!

Same here mate. Can see City mids tempting me to take hits in GW37 but I’ll be selling other dgw mids like Son, Mahrez or Willian to get them which just doesn’t sound good.

Looks decent. But I’d probably prefer another Liverpool attacker over 2 defenders.

Even though Kdb doesn't have many hauls recently, he has explosive potential and points from various routes. Silva might be rested and sane revolves mostly on the left side mostly and not sure on his explosiveness. Could be subbed of early too. If kun injured, Jesus is the best striker option this gw

          • 9 Years

Can see the sense behind that. Personally I’m definitely sold on Jesus if Aguero is out.

Really confused between the mids honestly. All 3 have their pros & cons.

Another pro for Kdb which won it for me is most non-freehitters will not go for Kdb as he is very expensive and may resort to one of sane/sterling/Silva due to being cheap. Kdb could be a huge differential

Agreed. But PVA or Coleman/Baines look decent options.

Lot on depends on who starts but I’ll definitely have double Pool attack if 2 of Firmino, Mane or Salah start.

Ya it really depends on that Anfield express team sheet
If the big hitters of Liverpool are rested, the match could be a boring 1-0 win so their defense will have more value

Probably not. As Doyeon says, he'll likely be back for GW37, so he'd only miss one gameweek (if you're also using FH in GW35).

I'll likely save the FT in GW36 if possible so that I have 2FTs going into GW37. I'll simply consider selling him in GW37 as part of my 2FTs as I would consider selling anyone else. I'll only sell in GW36 if I'm pretty sure I'll take a hit in GW37 anyway, which I don't plan to do at the moment.

That said, I could downgrade him in GW36 to someone who would be better than his stand-in replacement, Simpson (cpl), that week. But I see this as waste of a transfer, so we'll see.

      1. Fantastisk
        • 7 Years

How does the FH make any difference? Chelsea aren't even playing in GW35.

        1. Deulofail
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 10 months ago

Only because he would also blank during his blank GW if you don't have the FH chip, so he would effectively miss 2 GWs in the PL (GW 35 and 36) instead of 1 (GW36).

So if you don't have FH, you would be more inclined to sell him than if you do.

Ah, it was Dermot Gallagher who said it

Gallagher - I do think it was a red card offence.
Kelly Cates - Why did Mike Dean not give it?
Gallagher - I think he is probably too close. I think he has got the wrong angle.
Le Tissier - Ah Dermot, come on. Seriously.
Gallagher - The FA will ask him if he's seen it, he clearly hasn't or otherwise, he would have given a foul.
            Wise - Dermot, come on!
            Gallagher - It's something he hasn't seen.

"It was a poor challenge - it should have been a red card in my view," said Southampton manager Mark Hughes after his relegation-threatened side's defeat.

"The disappointment was the officials didn't see it. They were all within a 10 to 15 metre radius - one of them should have seen it."

Can Chelsea make a case that the officials did see it?

It makes no difference whether they saw it or not if they saw the incident but missed a specific part of it

If you're 80 points behind your ML rival after this GW (with WC active and BB for 37 vs. no chips) you pick the players he does not have right?

He got Otamendi, Sterling and Jesus.

Seems logic to get KDB, Sane and Silva right?

No, you will be even further behind, Silva and Sane are big risks

I actually really like that thinking.
KDB/Sane I think are spot on. I have a slight doubt on Silva but could still be fine.

              Yeah I get that.
I see others justifying it with 1st game after league win... he's club captain - yadda yadda.
              Yes Walker more nailed.

I will definitely bring in Sterling & Gundogan for Mahrez & Gross this GW. For a hit on top of that, which other City player should I bring in?

    A) Walker (for Alonso)
    B) Sane (for Willian)
    C) Aguero (for Lukaku)

As I understand it, yes he'd be able to play. The question is will Chelsea have grounds to appeal. Their best argument would be that the referee did saw the incident and didn't take action at the time. However, this option probably won't be open to them as the FA will ask Mike Dean first. I don't think they can extend this argument to the linesmen or fourth official.

He’ll say his vision was restricted. Either by a player or the fact he was striking some ridiculous Mike Dean pose rather than keeping up with play!

Mahrez, Willian, Lingard, Vardy >>> Shaquiri, Zara, Arni, Jesus worth the -12?
