While tonight’s Goodison Park clash between Everton and Newcastle concludes Gameweek 35, our sights are already set on the next batch of fixtures with the launch of the latest Captain Poll to canvass your views on the best armband options.

Newly crowned PFA Player of the Year and Golden Boot race leader Mohamed Salah (10.6) topped the poll last time out and is set to once again be a popular captaincy candidate, having delivered his 31st goal of the campaign at the weekend at West Brom.

The Liverpool winger’s home fixture on Saturday lunchtime against Stoke, another relegation-embattled side, also looks enticing. On the road the Potters have managed just two clean sheets and shipped 37 goals, with only West Ham (42) conceding more on their travels.

Interest could be slightly muted amid concerns around Salah’s pitch time, with the Potters’ clash sandwiched in between Liverpool’s two Champions League semi-final ties against Roma. However, given that there are four days between the Stoke match and return trip to Italy, the Egyptian is expected to retain his starting berth once again.

It’s worth noting that he has already delivered two goals and 13 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points against the Potters in just 23 minutes off the bench in Gameweek 14.

Roberto Firmino (9.6) could earn a recall to Liverpool’s starting XI after being a substitute against the Baggies. The Brazilian has blanked just once in his last six at Anfield, tallying four goals and a pair of assists in that stretch.

Sadio Mane (9.5) provides another alternative – he has started every league match since Gameweek 21, scoring six and assisting a further five along the way. The Senegal international has blanked just twice in his last eight outings.

A home clash with Watford means that Harry Kane (12.8) will go head-to-head with Salah for our armband attentions.

The Hornets arrive in dire defensive form on the road, conceding nine times in their last three away fixtures.

That bodes well for Kane as he looks to vanquish a run of form that has delivered just a single goal in six league appearances.

At home, he knocks Salah into second spot for shots (101 to 82), efforts in the box (64 to 61) and attempts on target, by 43 to 40.

Kane is currently the most popular player in the FPL transfer market, attracting more than 37,000 new owners.

In midfield, there’s no shortage of options. Christian Eriksen (9.5) has fired four goals in as many Gameweeks, while Dele Alli (9.0)’s strike against Manchester United in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final defeat should also attract attention. He has three goals and a trio of assists in his last five in the league.

Son Heung-min is the third most sold midfielder ahead of Saturday’s deadline, yet boasts a fine home record. The South Korean has served up nine goals and five assists at Wembley, compared with three goals and two assists on his travels.

Manchester City have already scooped the Premier League title but, on the evidence of their performance against Swansea yesterday, they don’t lack the motivation to attack. Five goals without replay against the Welsh side could sway voting their way ahead of their trip to West Ham.

Gabriel Jesus (10.2) looks a likely starter up front, while Sergio Aguero continues his recovery from minor surgery. He had a particularly eventful game against the Swans with a goal, assist and penalty miss. Nonetheless, it’s now three goals and as many assists in four starts for the Brazilian.

Raheem Sterling (8.9) also impressed on Sunday, claiming a goal and assist on his way to 11 points. With returns in each of the last six run-outs, he drops by the London Stadium in sensational form and is currently the most bought midfielder.

Another Sky Blues option voters may consider is David Silva (8.2), who has assisted more goals than any of his team-mates on the road (seven) and has also found the net six times, a tally only Sterling can better (seven). It is also worth noting that four of the Spaniard’s six scores of 10 points or more have come away from the Etihad Stadium.

West Ham have been in obliging mood recently, shipping four to Arsenal on Sunday and 13 over their last six league encounters, with only Bournemouth conceding more (14).

The Gunners fielded a strong side in that Hammers clash but look likely to rotate when they drop by Old Trafford on Sunday, as it falls between their two Europa League semi-final ties with Atletico Madrid. This could see Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku (11.5) prove popular among voters, especially after registering four goals and an assist over his last six home league run outs.

Alexis Sanchez (11.5)’s headed goal against Spurs in the FA Cup at the weekend also puts him in the reckoning as he prepares to square up to his former club for the first time. The Chilean has a goal and three assists over his last four in the league and faces a Gunners’ side that have lost five straight road trips.

For those looking for a reliable differential captain, it is worth noting that Burnley’s Ashley Barnes (5.4) goes into his home match with his former side Brighton in exceptional form. The striker has scored and earned bonus points in six of his last eight league starts, while the Seagulls have only one clean sheet over their last six away matches.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 36 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

When you know you won't be playing the next game but are too proud to transfer yourself out.

And when you take a -12 hit, have two attackers costing 23m on the bench but still absolutely smash it.

Just the one actually (Tønne) but he didn't get any attacking returns. Rolantsson usually plays on the wing but he was a left back in this game.

So my team is pretty template:

    Alonso Vert Smalling Morgan Lowton
    Mahrez Salah Son Willian (Hojberg)
    Kane Vardy Barnes

What are people's thoughts on this set of transfers:

Vardy & Alonso to Jesus and Cedric this week
    Salah to Sterling for 37
    Mahrez to Salah for 38
    (only 1 hit taken)

Anyone else with a similar team looking at something like this?

Form is temporary and can change like the wind, class is permanent. No point in captaining him after the hat trick has occurred. Its Salah or Kane for me this week but depends on Pool line up.

hard to read anything from the sub yesterday but Willian seemed more than usual upset by it. It´s normal that players get frustrated when they are subbed off early but this looked like it was more to it. but just pure speculation

i´m taking a monster hit, just to have some fun in the end of season, maybe it ruins a top 20k, but what the heck, i might not getthere anyway so why not just take a risk-), currently in 47k with triple Everton def left this week.
.Light defense and top heavy with triple Spurs, Sterling and Jesus, Mahrez and Vardy. Out goes, Alonso, Valencia, Gross, Barnes and Willian. Lascelles and probably a Swansea defender in, Thinking behind is that neither Valencia nor Alonso will play all three games in that week. not the best fixture for the incomers, but at least i know they will play.

On FPL it says Alonso is suspended until the 4th of May. The last game of his suspension is Swansea, on the 28th of April.

He should lose the red flag at full time in the Swansea game and then have his price locked, right? Or is May the 4th of any significance, apart from Star Wars.

would not have done that with all the other candidates this week but i think if he plays and i think he will Arsenal (and specifically Wenger) will be up for it, and contrary to many who believes he is putting out a youth team i think he will play a team that has a chance. He will play his best 6 from keeper and midfield, and then there wil be mostly about whom he sees fit (both in terms of actuall fitness but also in terms of suited to a game vs United) to play. My guess is, Ramsey, Wilshere and Xhaka and Auba and Laca and then Ozil, but Welbeck also an option depending on tactical decisions. Several of these players have had their rest for weeks and it is the last game vs Mourinho and top 6 team. Iwobi won´t start-)

    A) Lukaku -> Jesus, giving a Jesus TC of (HUD,BHA) in GW37;
    B) Alonso -> any other defender;
    C) wait for possible LIV team leak, then do Salah -> Eriksen / MCI mid if Salah not starting, otherwise A or B.

Not sure if any of them are good options if you aim to reach your ml leader. I think De Bruyne or any of Silva/Sterling is better choices. 80 points is probably out of reach anyway, if you don´t have a chip he does not have, but you wanted an opinion and if choosing between a and b, it´s b, mainly because of the reason you mentioned yourself. 6.6 defender is enough to get the one who´s nailed of nailedness (azpi) and none of the other above 6m is nailed apart from boring Verthongen.

Hi Pal yes I’m aware it’s quite an ask and unlikely. Already own triple city (dsilva, sane and jesus). Not much advantage in chip terms, he has none left and I’ll be benchboosting in 37 but who knows. Planning to stick with the B plan I think.

bench boost could give you a slight hope if you hit and he miss, but depends on how different your team is obviously

i would be a bit worry about Hazard getting rested for Hudders, but if they still have a chance he won´t so it´s a risk which one can´t judge before after Liverpool game and then it´s too late i guess

Should i go triple ManC attack or double ManC and double Spurs attack?

    Salah Son Sane Sterling
    Aubameyang Firmino

    A) Alonso, Auba to 4.9 Kane
    B) Auba to Jesus

If Firmino not in lineup i will probably go Firm Auba to Vardy Jesus.

    Cheers

Pep respects the game. Can't see him allowing him a penalty or free kick, even if 5-0 up so think it's pretty irrelevant. Do we know the context in which it was said as well, he might have said it as a joke.

You may not need him for GW38, but just a reminder for those who have or are getting Kenedy that he's red flagged against Chelsea.

Thanks for that. Still have BB and TC, Alonso flagged this gw and Kenedy 38, planning on TC Kane for the double.

You'll have to sell Kenedy for 38 or Alonso this week then.. but GW38 usually has rotation everywhere, especially for dead games so you may struggle with a BB then.

Yep, havent fully decided on TC yet so i´m keeping until then. Salah TC 38 an option, or even against Stoke if he´s in leaked lineup.

Nobody knows on Morgan. He's 34 though and given he only played one game in the DGW in 34, I can't see him playing both in 37.

Mee could be back this weekend.. But Dyche has messed us around before with his 'nearly ready' pressers. I hope he's not.. then I can squeeze one more game out of K Long and play my triple Burnley defence this week ha

looking to bring in Jesus and One of Sterling/Sane/Silva for the dbl and have Lukaku as the one going, who from midfield would you sacrifice, transfers will be made after this gw

    Currently own Fabianski

With that in mind who would you consider to be the best option 4.4m defender

    A) vdh (despite double up)
    B) Chilwell
    C) masuaku
    D) suggest other

    Lukaku.

Now, I can't sell him this week as I think they will munch a rotation heavy Arsenal. But would you ditch him for the double for Ayew to create funds? He was b niches at Bournemouth so think that could happen again? Uniteds double is best part of a week apart though.. and he has Watford at home in 38. Difficult call.

Already ditched him. Have mci blinkers - just prefer picks from a team that scores lots of goals with nothing to now worry about.

The second game of the DGW and GW 38 are only three days apart again and with GW 38 being the final home game of the season I'd guess that Jose will likely use his stronger team for that so the West Ham game should see more rotation, I'm also keeping him this week but I'm losing him for Jesus for the double.
