Scout Notes – Walcott Decides Low Key Clash

Theo Walcott strikes to secure an Everton victory and end Newcastle United’s run of wins, as Fantasy managers benefit from defensive returns.

Walcott converted a Yannick Bolasie cross at the second attempt, mis-controlling initially before seeing the ball ricochet back to him via DeAndre Yedlin.

It marked only the second match in which Walcott has found the net for the Toffees following a brace back in Gameweek 25.

A run of just one assist in nine Gameweeks has understandably seen Walcott decline and stall as a Fantasy attraction – he went into Monday’s encounter owned by just 169,000+ managers.

Some 8,900 of those had the foresight to bring in the winger with their Free Hit; it meant that Walcott was found in just 5.7% of squads built with that chip for Gameweek 35.

There faith in Everton’s defence was stronger.

A quiet night for Pickford

Having kept two clean sheets in the previous three at home before last night’s shut-out, the Magpies’ visit provided enough incentive for significant Free Hit investment.

Jordan Pickford was signed by 40,000+ managers before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Ederson among FPL goalkeepers.

But another 40,000 also acquired the keeper with their Free Hit, meaning that he was found in 26.1% of the chip’s squads.

Ironically, Pickford had a restful evening and was called upon to make just two saves; it’s only the second time in nine Gameweeks that he has failed to produce a save point.

As a result, the bonus points went elsewhere, with Michael Keane and Leighton Baines the chief benefactors.

Keane was a major differential in the Toffees backline. He earned the maximum bonus but was limited to an eight-point return following a booking. The centre-back was part of just 307,000 squads, which included 7,000 Free Hit managers.

Baines was a far more popular target.

Some 18,000 used a Gameweek transfer on the full-back, while another 41,000 acquired him with the Free Hit. Like Keane, he delivered eight points on the night.

Everton’s assets are now set to fade from view in Fantasy terms. While their fixtures are strong (hud SOU whu), they offer no Double Gameweek and continue to be erratic as a source of both defensive and attacking returns.

Magpies fail the chipless

While a good proportion of Free Hit managers benefited from the Everton clean sheet, those without the chip active who invested in Newcastle’s budget assets were left empty-handed.

Striker Ayoze Perez was brought in by 136,000 ahead of Gameweek 35, making him the eighth most signed player.

That investment followed a run of three goals and two assists from his last three starts.

But despite firing five shots on goal, Perez blanked, along with budget midfielder Kenedy, who was acquired by another 13,000 managers prior to the deadline.

Walcott’s goal also denied the clean sheet, as those holding keeper Martin Dubravka and full-back Paul Dummett were disappointed.

But unlike Everton, there is still some life in Newcastle’ Fantasy appeal.

They face a home fixture with a resurgent West Brom in Gameweek 36, before two fixtures in Gameweek 37 as they travel to Watford and Spurs.

Neither of those fixtures scream big returns, though Dummett and Kenedy will likely be retained and recruited as cut-price options – particularly by late Bench Boosters – for the double-header.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you think any of ur players will score heavily in GW36 or 38, use TC then and BB in 37. Else viceversa.

BB this week and TC Kane or Jesus in 37.

Your bench for this week looks pretty good, and Burnley 37 fixtures are rubbish, so you'd have to shift all three and possibly Salah (as an enabler) to make it worthwhile.

Wait for Liverpool line-up news and if Salah is dropped, you could do Alonso + Salah > Vert + Man City midfielder.

        Great advice.
As it stands your BB would be 3 Burnley and Ryan. All have terrible fixtures. I'd take a punt this week with BB that Burnley play well. My DGW BB got me 16 so if you get over 14 you've done well.
I disagree on transfers. Spurs can't keep a CS and Vert is pricey with next to no attacking points. I think Mahrez is your sacrificial lamb. He's been poo for awhile and you have Vardy.

Given Son's home record, is he worth a hit? or save it and do for double GW?

I have Son and I think he will only start 1 game in 37, but probably come off the bench in the 2nd game so I'm keeping

Tough one! Arnie if Gudmundsson's opposition were anyone other than BHA, who concede set price goals for fun.

Anyone know what proportion of the top 10k is made up of dead teams, and therefore how many/few will be optimised for DGW 37?

I want to know whether to prioritise OR (I'm 2pts off 10k), my ML, or my ML cup competition in the coming couple of weeks!

Having a mare of a season and 120pts away from a Prize in my ML. Still got WC and BB left so thinking I need a lot of differentials for the DGW.

How does this look for the first draft?

    Ederson Fabianski
    Azpilicueta Davies Smalling Dummett Bednarek
    Eriksen Alli B.Silva Ramsey Lingard
    Jesus Vardy Giroud

All 15 players have DGW's so hopefully we be in for a big score to salvage my season!

I get the need to gamble, but some of those look too risky.

Which players in particular? More than open to suggestions 🙂

          Davies risk
          Ederson risk
          Ramsey risk
          Giroud risk
I'd go Lloris over Davies for spurs.
I'd also not go 2 Spurs miss.

You have Salah, you have Kane, you have city attackers
      Easy save.

Stick? 1.3m ITB and have WC and BB for GW37

    Pope
    Lascelles/Robertson/Ward
    Salah/D Silva/Son/Mili
    Jesus/Kane/Firmino

    Any suggestions?

For people without the WC (used it way before the blanks and doubles) is it worth taking hits to get as many DGW players for DGW37?

Is it worth taking the risk to take out Salah around GW36 to get someone like De Bruyne, Sanchez etc?
