Theo Walcott strikes to secure an Everton victory and end Newcastle United’s run of wins, as Fantasy managers benefit from defensive returns.

Walcott converted a Yannick Bolasie cross at the second attempt, mis-controlling initially before seeing the ball ricochet back to him via DeAndre Yedlin.

It marked only the second match in which Walcott has found the net for the Toffees following a brace back in Gameweek 25.

A run of just one assist in nine Gameweeks has understandably seen Walcott decline and stall as a Fantasy attraction – he went into Monday’s encounter owned by just 169,000+ managers.

Some 8,900 of those had the foresight to bring in the winger with their Free Hit; it meant that Walcott was found in just 5.7% of squads built with that chip for Gameweek 35.

There faith in Everton’s defence was stronger.

A quiet night for Pickford

Having kept two clean sheets in the previous three at home before last night’s shut-out, the Magpies’ visit provided enough incentive for significant Free Hit investment.

Jordan Pickford was signed by 40,000+ managers before Saturday’s deadline, second only to Ederson among FPL goalkeepers.

But another 40,000 also acquired the keeper with their Free Hit, meaning that he was found in 26.1% of the chip’s squads.

Ironically, Pickford had a restful evening and was called upon to make just two saves; it’s only the second time in nine Gameweeks that he has failed to produce a save point.

As a result, the bonus points went elsewhere, with Michael Keane and Leighton Baines the chief benefactors.

Keane was a major differential in the Toffees backline. He earned the maximum bonus but was limited to an eight-point return following a booking. The centre-back was part of just 307,000 squads, which included 7,000 Free Hit managers.

Baines was a far more popular target.

Some 18,000 used a Gameweek transfer on the full-back, while another 41,000 acquired him with the Free Hit. Like Keane, he delivered eight points on the night.

Everton’s assets are now set to fade from view in Fantasy terms. While their fixtures are strong (hud SOU whu), they offer no Double Gameweek and continue to be erratic as a source of both defensive and attacking returns.

Magpies fail the chipless

While a good proportion of Free Hit managers benefited from the Everton clean sheet, those without the chip active who invested in Newcastle’s budget assets were left empty-handed.

Striker Ayoze Perez was brought in by 136,000 ahead of Gameweek 35, making him the eighth most signed player.

That investment followed a run of three goals and two assists from his last three starts.

But despite firing five shots on goal, Perez blanked, along with budget midfielder Kenedy, who was acquired by another 13,000 managers prior to the deadline.

Walcott’s goal also denied the clean sheet, as those holding keeper Martin Dubravka and full-back Paul Dummett were disappointed.

But unlike Everton, there is still some life in Newcastle’ Fantasy appeal.

They face a home fixture with a resurgent West Brom in Gameweek 36, before two fixtures in Gameweek 37 as they travel to Watford and Spurs.

Neither of those fixtures scream big returns, though Dummett and Kenedy will likely be retained and recruited as cut-price options – particularly by late Bench Boosters – for the double-header.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone keeping Lukaku for this week and getting Jesus next week instead? Losing money with Lukaku fall/Jesus rise isn't of concern with my team and I'm strongly considering keeping Lukaku for the Arsenal game. Arsenal awful away from home and given up on PL in general. West Ham admittedly not an incredible team for Jesus to be facing but they'll still feel they have to secure some more points to guarantee safety so be motivated.

I can do Jesus this week if I wanted so it's not a matter of having to hold Lukaku, just think he could perform better this week

Your reasoning for keeping the same as mine? I was considering the Mahrez -> Sterling too this week but decided I want Mahrez for the DGW still and gonna remove him+ Vardy GW38 for Salah + Barnes/Wood.

Gonna save the transfer this week and do Son+Lukaku -> Jesus and Sterling I reckon!

I have the same option. Jesus form 6.0, Lukaku 4.3 so probably worth doing although not much in it and Pep could play without a 9.

Saving transfer could be useful (in a perfect world I'd like to make about 6 transfers at present). I'm also waiting on Salah news, so waiting until Sat morning for sure.

I'm keeping Rom as I'm usually lucky owning him.

Also, arsenal's away form is poor, furthermore, they should field a weaker team for that game.

Also, I still have Scamhrez in my team who is looking out of form/luck.

Will prefer to bring in Sterling this week for Mahrez as all non FH managers in my league bought him last GW

Yeah I can see United scoring at least 2 for sure, but naturally City can always put 3 or 4 past opposition too.

I was gonna do Mahrez-> Sterling but decided to keep because I reckon GW37 he'll come good.

Midfield is Mahrez/Alli/Son/Willian/Kenedy so think I'll do Son -> Sterling next week

          Fair points.

I'll keep Lukaku and hoping I can go against the norm for once (not Captain the obvious choice).

Son looks good, 4 goals and 1 assist in 5 games against Watford

    DDG (Ryan)

    Hazard, Willian, Mahrez, Gross, Gudmundsson
    Kane, Lukaku (Murray)

    1 FT - 1.3 ITB

Salah? - maybe tonight will be an answer

It could be playing for a chance at reaching the WC or playing for their future in the teams next season

Austin, Walcott, Giroud,Iwobi come to mind

Just wondering who people think is better choice for the run in (chasing):

          a) Arnautovic
          b) Hazard
          c) Zaha

Tempted by Hazard due to low ownership and better fixtures than Palace and West Ham.

            1. JohnnyMagrinho
                7 years, 10 months ago

I have Sterling, Alli, Arnautovic, Zaha and Mili (gambled on last GW for Palace it clearly didn't work).

Could get KDB but want more of a differential pick as I'm not having a great season over here.

Zaha offers penalties/goals and Arnie on a good day can do anything.

Just feel like Chelsea assets might be going under radar as they've been grinding out wins. Hazard as a differential too.

How's this for a plan (injuries/ leaked teams aside) for GW36 and GW37 with no chips remaining?

GW36 team - Captain Salah or Sterling:

            DDG
            Vert, Smalling, Lowton
            Salah, Sterling, Eriksen, Son, Mili
            Jesus, Vardy
            (Ryan) (Barnes, Morgan, Mustafi)

For GW37 take -8 hit to do:
Vardy, Salah, Son > Kane, Mahrez, Lingard

Will give me 11 DGW players:

            DDG
            Vert, Smalling, Mustafi, Morgan
            Sterling, Eriksen, Mahrez, Lingard
            Kane (C), Jesus
            (Ryan) (Mili, Barnes, Lowton)

If RMT tool is anything to go by I will get 100+ points after the hit....

            Sounds like a decent plan?!

I'd just try not to make a decision solely on it being a DGW. We are at that stage of the season where it's really hard to tell who is going to be playing which game and for how long.

Jones and Kompany might not play both like someone else said, that's true, but they might play both, and Naughton over two games might get you 4 points, whereas Kompany might play one and get 6.

My ML rival has used 1 FT and his money ITB has increased by 1.2.

                    Do you think he did:
                    A) Salah -> Sane
                    B) Lukaku -> Jesus

Impossible question to ask, of course.

I want to block him as much as i can but getting Jesus now almost eliminates my chances of getting Kane for the doubles and i need a TC candidate...

B seems sensible but you can predict that better if he has some value tied in Salah, so his TV has decreased significantly if he sold Salah who he got early in the season.

But try to play your own game, don't play a blocking game just yet. Still 1 DGW to play. If you feel that Kane is your TC just get him but try to get Jesus too until GW37, even for a hit if needed.

Thanks for your reply! Some good points. But im 30 pts ahead in big cash league so i want as similar team as possible đŸ™‚ hehe.

Is checking the TV possible ahead of the GW when making transfers?

30 points is not that much to be safe by blocking, you'll be angry if he hits a C and you don't.

But I get where you're coming from. Good luck mate. Hope you beat him.

This link could help you too, just write down his FPL ID.

But if he makes just 1FT it's usually very easy to predict which way he went.

Yeah, i understand what you mean. It didnt allow me to enter a FPL ID but this i gathered myself:

His TV has gone from :
                                  103.4 -> 102,9

                                  Bank:
                                  0,4->1,6

Loss in TV is probably from MAhrez, Son, Alonso ect.

                                  He could have gone for
                                  Lukaku->Jesus
Salah -> Sané (but doubt it since it would affect TV more)
Alonso -> Vertongen (if he did it before the price drop).

A pretty well rested Jesus playing for an Aguero-less City with the world cup on the horizon - I'd be tempted to TC him!

                          Yes!

IF his pitch time would be guaranteed, like Kane..

I reckon he'll be fairly guaranteed of starts simply because there'd not be a hugely obvious reason not to ay - Man city now only have one other registered striker (a 19 year old 4.5m striker) with Aguero on the mend after surgery. I reckon he might be one of the safer City picks for the run-in (hopefully!!)

He could play Sterling/Sane/BSilva as false 9 tho..

Yeah the false 9 thing is basically the big 'what if' but I don't imagine Pep will do that unless he is trying to protect Jesus physically before the World Cup - and the reason I'm hoping that won't happen is it'd be weird to do that when there are other players who've maybe had less of a rest who could do with the same thing. Who knows with Pep haha!

                      On my Wildcard
                      De Gea, Ederson
                      Moses, Smalling, Monreal, Vertonghan, Ogbonna,
                      Salah, Silva, Willian, Albrighton, Kennedy
                      Kane, Jesus, Perez.
Will bench boost in gw37, All have DGWs but Salah.
Is Salah likely to start on the weekend being in between the two Roma games?
I plan to swap Salah and Albrighton to Eriksen and Lingard for a -4 in 37. But I don't know wether to do it this week instead and save a -4 and a transfer.

Anfield Express twitter should give you prior notice if Salah will start.
Your team looks much stronger with Eriksen and Lingard rather than Salah and Albrighton, even without the -4 đŸ™‚

Probably holding off Kane as he looks so rusty. If Salah is benched and we find out ahead of deadline I will sell for a Spurs mid as I don't see him scoring hugely at Chelsea

"Jonas Hector has signed a new deal with FC Cologne, despite their recent relegation. He says the club has helped him go from the fourth division to the national team, so will repay their faith."

Very nice to see a bit of loyalty these days in a world full of mercenaries (even though it might hurt his carreer). Was linked with Juve, Pool and Dortmund.

Nice one Jonas. I wouldn't be surprised if it has a release clause if they aren't promoted at the first attempt, or something similar, but it's a nice gesture.

Even had a opt-out clause but reportedly doesnt have one in the new contract. I imagine he took some precautions though, which is only fair. Cant imagine Koln giving him a hard time if he decides to leave too.

Dirt cheap, seems nailed, some attacking promise, OK DGW.

Lack of other cheap DGW BB options.

Would you start Arnie vs City?
I would wait for next GW

30pt lead over my ML rival. Going into DGW37 we have a very similar team, but he’s gone differential up front.

My frontline - Kane, Jesus, J Ayew
His frontline - Lukaku, Aubameyang, Vardy

Both have TC left to play, got a feeling he might use it on Sterling.

Should be able to hold him off?

I like your forwards better but both could do well. 30 point lead definitely sways it your way. So I'm picking you.

As long as you don't put the tc on ayew

Danilo or Laporte as cheap City DF on WC?

Hard to call. Pep seems to have suggested that Stones will get some WC fitness time. Not sure if the returning Mendy is a threat? Might both be iffy.

Maybe Ederson is my best bet then
