Over the past several seasons, the final Gameweek has repeatedly thrown up a number of surprising results, alongside more than its fair share of goalfests.

In 2016/17, our final day action included a 7-1 trouncing of Championship-bound Hull City at the hands of Spurs (and more specifically, Harry Kane); meanwhile, Chelsea and Man City each hit five goals past Sunderland and Watford, respectively.

Looking further back, this trend continues: 2015/16 saw a surprise 5-1 drubbing of Tottenham at the hands of Newcastle (who entered the game with their relegation already confirmed), while the 14/15 season finale saw Stoke beat Liverpool 6-1 and Leicester beat QPR 5-1.

Even these high-scoring fixtures pale in comparison, however, to the 10-goal showdown between West Brom and Manchester United in 2012/13, which produced a hat-trick for future United frontman Romelu Lukaku in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match at the helm.

While Gameweek 38 boasts a veritable laundry list of historically memorable fixtures, does the season’s final Gameweek actually result in a greater number of goals than a typical week? And who among this season’s Fantasy crop looks destined for success on the final day?

To explore this question, we dive into the history books to examine final-weekend showdowns over the past handful of seasons.

Chilwell out, De Gea and Smalling maby get rested.

Im using BB so is it worth taking -8 on defence??

    De Gea Pickford

    Davies Smalling Duffy Fernandez Chilwell

    Pogba Alli Sterling Milivojevic Tadic

    Kane Jesus Vardy

Cheers guys. Finding it a tough decision only 10 points ahead of my rival who has Salah.

Covering Salah seems sensible but so does going for the transfer that'll get me the most points haha

Salah at home to brighton should be that transfer that gets you points..

I think I'd go B. Salah seems tired and while I'd never sell him, not sure I'd tear my team up to get him in. If you do want to hold off your rival seems sensible to go for A though...

Good evening guys. Any ideas what to do here?

    Ryan
    Vertonghen, Alonso, Lowton
    Eriksen, Willian, Sterling, Gross, Milivojevic
    Kane, Jesus

Subs: De Gea --- Femenia, Morgan, Barnes --- 1 FT, 0.9 ITB

    A) Eriksen -> Salah
    B) Eriksen & Willian -> Salah & Zaha (-4)
    C) Something else, what?

A point between my rival and I, here are our differentials below based on likely starting XI:

    Me:
    Ryan
    Tark
    Lowton
    Vert
    Naughton
    Salah
    Barnes

    His team:
    Lloris
    Long
    Tomkins
    Smalling
    Dilva
    Pogba
    Zaha

    My best move?
    a) Burnley def > TAA
    b) Gross > RLC/Mili (play 3-4-3 and bench either a Burnley def or Naughton)
    c) Barnes > JAyew
    d) DDG & Gross > Romero & Zaha -4 (covers rival having Zaha)

    Captain:
    1) Kane (we both have)
    2) Salah (only I have)
