France are expected to register a big win against Australia and keep a clean sheet too, upon looking at the ownership levels of their players.

Antoine Griezmann (£10.0m) is the most popular asset for the fixture, coming into it sat in 25 percent of McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy squads. In the forwards department, only Lionel Messi (£12.0m) and Neymar (£12.0m) more owners.

N’Golo Kante (£6.0m) is the preferred option in midfield, his 20 percent ownership dwarfing that of Paul Pogba (£9.0m).

There seems to be no faith in Australia to continue their scoring run of ten goals in their last five matches with zero percent ownership for their midfield and attack.

Meanwhile, Raphael Varane (£6.0m) and Hugo Lloris (£6.0m) sit in 15 and 13 percent of squads respectively.

Yeah it's a clear penalty. But I still disagree with VAR on principle

          8 years, 1 day ago

Yeah. I just think it spoils the game. Wrong decisions happen, it's only a game and most should be able to get over it. That penalty got awarded about a minute after it happened and play had carried on. We can see already refs aren't making decisions, linesmen have been told not to flag offside if its close. I think it's farcical

I agree with SW6 there regarding that it’s a game, before a business.
But why shouldn’t technology be used to help officials get decision right so we get a fairer result.
I don’t think it slows the game down anymore than play acting, head injuries, walking off subs have

I just think the game is so fast, it’s so difficult for refs to get it right every time, VAR when done right, and I think it has been this tournament (costa/Pepe yesterday) works for the benefit of the game

there is the slightest of touches I think. Only reason I can see why it should be considered a pen, is because the Austrailia defender lifted his foot up at the end of the slide through

I have watched it a few times, slow motion replays, and I don’t think the defender makes any contact with the ball.

I’m sure we’ve seen all the same angles, and I really don’t see a touch, but fair enough.
I think it’s far more a penalty than not.

The defender touches the ball. There is contact after, but the ball has run away. Soft penalty. Players are always colliding with each other.

I guess we'll have to just agree to disagree. I realise its a close call, but I just believe that its really quite harsh to consider that a foul. Minimal contact, possibly even got the ball; we'll get to the point where defenders will just stop making tackles all together unless the ball is clearly there to be won.

                • 11 Years

                I guess we will.
I just don’t see that as a close call, clear contact on the Griezmann.
If there was a slight touch (which I still don’t think there was) it’s not been enough to change the direction on the ball so Griezmann is still in to shoot on goal.

Anyone who thought there'd be a consensus when reviewing countless replays must have been kidding themselves. I can see both sides of the argument and on balance I say pen yet on another I would say no pen. That's just the inconsistency with 50-50 tight decisions.

Could football survive without the 'real' fans? I think at the top of the elite level it could. Man Utd and Arsenal don't need the 'real' fans - there are enough corporates, part-time fans and overseas fans to fill out the stadia.

    1. F4L
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 1 day ago

I feel like the amount of real fans in the game is diminishing right now with prices and how the big teams cater to tourists. Sooner or later they'll hit a wall I think, where the clubs will realise what they've done
