Argentina’s opening World Cup fixture against Iceland is all about Lionel Messi (£12.0m), even from a Fantasy perspective.

The Barcelona striker comes into the first match of Group D as the only player above 10 percent ownership.

He is the second most owned forward on McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy, and with good reason. In Argentina’s last six qualifying matches, he was the only one of their players to find the net.

Outside of Messi, on whom the team is very reliant, the next most popular asset is defender Nicolas Otamendi (£6.0m).

Five percent of Fantasy managers have taken interest in Willy Caballero (£5.0m), the number two goalkeeper who was promoted in light of Sergio Romero’s injury.

Argentina’s opponents Iceland have been completely written off from a Fantasy perspective with just three players considered for inclusion in squads.

Midfielders Emil Hallfredsson (£4.5m) and Samuel Fridjonsson (£4.5m) are on three and two percent ownership respectively, but both look like cost-saving signings given that they are not regular first-team players.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£8.0m), involved in eight of Iceland’s goals during qualifying, is owned by one percent.

I read that pogba's goal was actually an own goal? I hope so. Annoyed that people in my league are getting points from the standard premier league players!

Looked like an own goal, he didn't mean to shoot it

So sick of these jammy spoon-fed casuals picking Ronaldo, Pogba and Griezmann. Us dedicated hard-working professionals picking Pavard, Aldawsari, Meza etc. don't stand a chance anymore.

Haha I know this feel. I'm the butt of a joke in a group chat for not including Messi or Ronaldo in my team. Ahh if only they knew it was a poor decision pre-tournament.

Year after year after year of pain.

Final after final after final of loss.

And now the golden generation steps on the pitch for their final World Cup, spearheaded by the two players that lit up the scene at the U-20 World Cup, holding up the torch for the new Argentine generation.

Aguero and Messi. Last chance. Hyped beyond belief.

How about not qualifying after your clearly inept manager refuses to sub on his best player as you lose your World Cup place to a dirty, non-football team?

In summary, all agreed it was a penalty on review, neither Larson or Evra thought it was in real-time. So agreed the right decision was made.
Gary Neville did say he thought there was a slight touch from the defender on the ball, something I still can’t see, but said if defenders go to ground in the box he has no sympathy

Seems fair, the moment it happened I thought it was a penalty and like you I can't see the defender's touch. Even if he has it's so slight that in my view it's still a penalty. The rules may not technically agree but if a defender gets the tiniest of touches on the ball but brings down the man it's still a foul in my opinion.

Exactly, if there is a touch, the direction of the ball doesn’t change, and Griezmann is in on goal with a free shot, and clearly taken down on the follow through.

I’m sure there will be far more controversial VAR moments ahead

He's still doing well mate. Currently the #1 for Real Sociedad which is a big club in the La Liga.

I mean I would agree that he is nowhere near Ter Stegen, Neuer and de Gea but he's the best Argentina have got. Besides he's young so it would've been good for them to at least call him and get him experienced for future tournaments.

I’ve not watched much La Liga outside of the Madrids and Barca, but if he’s their no1 surprised he’s not in the squad at least, given Willy, or Romero don’t even start for their clubs.
