Fantasy managers are keeping faith with several Premier League-based players in the lunchtime encounter between Denmark and Australia.

Christian Eriksen (£9.0m), who registered an assist in the Danes’ 1-0 win over Peru last Saturday, is the most-owned player on show: 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA managers have the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder in their squads.

Eriksen’s assist potential was evident in that opening-match victory: the Spurs man fired in 11 crosses, delivered seven corner-kicks and created three chances for his team-mates in an admittedly fortuitous success over the unlucky Peruvians.

Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) excelled in that match, making six saves on his way to a clean-sheet. The Leicester City goalkeeper’s ownership has jumped a couple of percentage points as a result and now stands at 7.5 %.

Andreas Christensen‘s (£5.0m) ownership has also increased after that shut-out, with the Chelsea defender now selected by 4.3% of Fantasy managers.

For Australia, Mathew Ryan‘s (£4.5m) budget price tag and guaranteed minutes have persuaded 1.9% of McDonald’s FIFA managers to invest in the Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper: Ryan is the most-owned Australian player as a result.

With ten penalties being awarded in the World Cup so far – the tournament record is 18 – Fantasy managers are wisely looking towards those players on spot-kick duties for a reliable source of points.

Mile Jedinak (£6.0m) scored from the spot in the Socceroos’ 2-1 defeat to France and his ownership has increased to 1.6% as a consequence: previously, no Australian midfielder or forward had broken the 1% mark. Jedinak’s penalty was, in fact, the only shot on target Australia had in that loss to the French.

Australia’s team is unchanged, while Lasse Schone for the injured William Kvist is Denmark’s only alteration.

Australia XI (4-2-3-1): Ryan; Risdon, Sainsbury, Milligan, Behich; Jedinak, Mooy; Leckie, Kruse; Rogic, Nabbout
Denmark XI (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Kjaer, Christensen, Larsen; Schone, Delaney; Eriksen, Poulsen, Sisto; Jorgensen

Thanks Eriksen(c) and gtfo Cavani. I took -4 points to have Cavani this round. 🙂

Should Spurs play Eriksen this high instead of the deeper role he normally has? He's in the penalty box for Denmark every two minutes. And it works.

until spurs get a deep lying playmaker, no. He is more important to spurs playing deeper currently. Spurs have other players who can danger that high up

Eriksen is the advanced playmaker - By definition an AP operates between opposition midfield and defence and, a DLP between opposition attack and midfield.

He is great in that position but Spurs already have Alli doing it so he's better of the way he's currently played.

    Eriksen(c) after twisting from Salah.

Early thoughts, who makes way for Diego Costa round 3?

    A) Cavani (RUS), unlucky not to score so far but Uruguay are not really good
    B) Kane (BEL) he's a world class player but Belgium are obviously a better team than Russia.

    1. Ask Yourself

Hate this VAR even when it produces the correct decision. The amount of time it takes on average means you never know how long to follow and enjoy the game following every incident. So disjointed.

    1. Pierce34
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 9 months ago

Disagree - that was a quick decision, efficiently taken. Ironing out the kinks in what is a new system will mean that the time it takes on average will keep decreasing.

There are way more stoppages because of time-wasting or players feigning injuries anyway.

    2. diesel001
      • 9 Years

Rather have a correct decision than a wrong one. Imagine if someone fired you from your job on the back of an incorrect decision.

Agree with both your points but it's still too long for a spectator. The VAR panel should have as much influence as the ref and should automatically review everything and just make a decision if satisfied which the on-pitch ref has to give.

I really don't understand the "VAR takes too long arguement"

That literally took About 60-90 seconds. About the same time it takes for a ref to sort out a wall on a free kick.

I really like VAR. Apart from the england game it’s been excellent, it’s not the referees fault if there are too many penalties, it’s the players fault.
