Harry Kane has become the current top scorer in the World Cup with five goals in two matches.

After another incredible FPL season it looks as if he may become an essential asset to own on World Cup Fantasy too. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard looks like he could offer the best value when looking to invest in England’s attack.

We’ve got all the goals and assists from the Three Lions’ spectacular win over Panama tonight, and we’ll bring you the details of Japan v Senegal and Poland v Colombia tomorrow morning.

ENGLAND 6-1 PANAMA

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS

  • Harry Kane (£11.0m) – 16 points
  • John Stones (£5.5m) – 14 points
  • Jesse Lingard (£7.5m) – 9 points
  • Kieran Trippier (£5.5m) – 9 points
  • Felipe Baloy (£5.0m) – 7 points
  • Raheem Sterling (£9.0m) – 5 points
  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£6.0m) – 4 points
  • Ricardo Avila (£4.5m) – 4 points

Harry Kane’s (£11.0m) first-ever England hat-trick put him in pole position in the World Cup Golden Boot race on Sunday afternoon.

The Tottenham forward found the net three times as the Three Lions absolutely blew away Panama to qualify for the knockout stages, with defender John Stones (£5.5m) also scoring twice.

Such a dominant display may force a shift in the World Cup Fantasy market towards some of England’s key assets, even if it is Belgium up next for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Stones opened the scoring in the eighth minute as he headed home a Kieran Trippier (£5.5m) corner, completely unmarked.

Then in the 22nd minute England were awarded a penalty after Jesse Lingard (£7.5m) was bundled over. Kane stepped up and, despite two minutes of attempted gamesmanship from Panama’s players, smashed the ball into the top left-hand corner.

14 minutes later, Lingard got the goal that his performances against Tunisia and Panama deserved. Playing a nice little one-two with Sterling on the edge of the box, he let fly from distance and curled the ball into the top right-hand corner.

In the 40th minute, Stones had his second. In the aftermath of a free-kick, Kane headed back across goal to Sterling, whose nod was saved by Jaime Penedo (£4.5m). However, Stones was on hand to head high into the net to make it 4-0.

Kane netted the fifth goal in first-half stoppage time, once again from the penalty spot. Both he and Stones were hauled down in the box by Panama defenders and initially it was unclear which of the two simultaneous fouls had been penalised by the referee. It was later confirmed that Kane would receive the additional two points for winning the penalty and he dispatched it into the same part of the goal as his first.

Kane didn’t know much about it when he completed his hat-trick. Ruben Loftus-Cheek (£6.0m) took a shot from outside the box and his shot cannoned off the back of Kane’s foot to redirect it past Penedo.

With the result firmly in the bag, Kane and Lingard were withdrawn for Fabian Delph (£5.0m) and Jamie Vardy (£8.5m) to get some game-time. However, England took their foot off the gas after those changes, conceding in the 78th minute.

Ricardo Avila’s (£4.5m) free-kick from the left was turned into the net by 37-year-old substitute Felipe Baloy (£5.0m), frustrating those invested in England’s defence. However, owners of Trippier were fortunate to avoid losing their clean sheet. The Tottenham man was substituted off in the 70th minute before the goal, therefore banking the four points for a shutout.

With Romelu Lukaku (£10.0m) and Eden Hazard (£10.0m) both doubts for Belgium in Gameround 3, the form of Kane and Lingard may tempt Fantasy managers to invest in them before the Group Stages end.

ENGLAND XI (3-1-4-2): Pickford; Maguire, Stones, Walker; Henderson; Young, Lingard (Delph 63’), Lotus-Cheek, Trippier (Rose 70’); Kane (Vardy 63’), Sterling.

PANAMA XI (4-1-4-1): Penedo; Davis, Escobar, R Torres, Murillo; Gomez (Baloy 69’); Rodriguez, Godoy (Avila 63’), Cooper, Barcenas (Arroyo 69’); Perez.

How come no one has Kane in their wild card team? Is there a substantial risk he'll be rested vs Belgium?

Substantial risk he won’t score against Belgium even if he starts.

Remember, Belgium is ranked #3 to win it all. England is ranked #12.

do you think Brandt will start?? if he does he looks extremely dangerous.. the things he's done in 3 minutes and 4 minutes respectively are insane considering the time he played... hopefully he gets a chance ahead of draxler

    1. AndyCook
      8 years, 22 days ago

Probably not. Werner should play and maybe Gomez too a more likely starter

      1. AndyCook
        8 years, 22 days ago

Obviously not the same position but Reus gives the positional flexibility in that sense

Brandt could play in a 4-4-2 on the left with Reus on the right and Gomez & Werner upfront, Muller has been awful so far

    2. AndyCook
      8 years, 22 days ago

Having read Lowe’s comments again I think you could say he has a decent chance of starting as described below. At 6.5 though not sure he is cheap enough that I would risk it given there are some 5.5 and cheaper options personally

Think I'm done for the night now lads. Messi and Ronaldo it is.

Egypt keeper (see before deadline) / Ben Mustapha
    Rudiger / Fonte / Akanji / R Rod / Fagner
    Coutinho / Isco / Quintero / Sassi / Inui
    CR7 / Costa / Messi

What ya think? I know many would choose Cedric or Guerriero over Fonte but there's doubts around them both appaz and differential ?!

    1. 420king
      • 12 Years

Guerreiro apparently has some muscle strain and only returned to training today and Cedric may just be rotated. Both could play or not I don't know but can't risk having a player who doesn't play hence Fonte

I've made a WC draft just in case I decide to use it. What do you think?

    Gallese Ryan
    Kimmich Guerreiro Cedric R.Rod Granqvist

    I'd BB this team too.

I would upgrade Cuadrado and Kazhri if possible but he does have a good fixture

I think it would be very exciting to cheer for a 0-0 😀 Khazri's great value. If I don't get him, I'd want someone much much expensive, like Costa, but is it really wother the extra when it destroys the team? I reckon not 🙂

All right 🙂 I'm not expecting a 0-0, but I think anybody would be foolish to *expect* a CS from both their keepers. Aus and Peru seem as likely as any other team with affordable GKs to a clean sheet, I think.

              8 years, 22 days ago

I really want to pull the trigger, but I also really think the WC will be more valuable in QFs. I'll likely end up taking a -8 now instead :/

                  8 years, 22 days ago

Can't cancel it? It's the same with boosts, so be careful. Either way a -8 hit in QFs would be worth 5 transfers, which means you'd only need 6 players that qualify to have a full 11. And we're likely to have more than that.

                  1. Deulofail
                    • 10 Years
                    8 years, 22 days ago

True, but a WC would have allowed you to have 15, which also gives you an advantage going into the semi and the final. Anyway, I've pulled the trigger now. Justified because I know others in my league are saving it as per my advice, so it's a bit of fun to surprise them 🙂

                    1. 420king
                      • 12 Years
                      8 years, 22 days ago

I know, QF WC has many advantages but my biggest worry is that unless we have another Germany - Brazil the semi finals and finals will be rather low scoring, except for maybe 3rd place game for which we get to make 5 transfers without anyone being knocked anyway.

Comparing it to UCL, I was happy with 30-40 points per round in those stages.

              8 years, 22 days ago

The most value from BB is actually two GKs getting a clean sheet, but it agree it's very difficult to achieve. There's a few keepers in the same rice range that are more likely to get a CS according to bookies (Switzerland, Egypt, Tunisia), but go with your gut.

I have a total of 12 transfers left in the WC, am i right to prioritise theese transfers? (marked *)

    Muslera, Halldorson
    Cacares*, Hector, Meunier*, Danilo (Dalsgaard)
    Quintesa, Silva, Coutinho (Otayf, Boussoufa)
    Cavani, Kane*, Lukaku*

Thinking of getting Werner and mayb another Germany player in, Gamle on Messi revival for argentina? They must surely go for the big number win.

Is it worth tranferring Kane and Kaku out just for this round when i surely want at least one of them back?

    1. AndyCook
      8 years, 22 days ago

Danilo is out. I wouldn’t lose players just to get them back. You really need to save 8-10 for the later rounds to keep up unless you get lucky and nobody gets knocked out. I’d lose Danilo and be tempted to stick with Kane at least as he will play and maybe keep Lukaku. Only swap players who won’t play

I can’t see Ronaldo getting more than 1 goal. You will find better value in captaining a mid or def in tomorrow’s matches.

Eh, not sure. I've not been impressed by Uruguay as a whole going forward but I've not been impressed by Isco and his Kane-esque free kicks either! Probably Cavani between the two.

Yeah, think I'll just leave it on Cavani.

Not that I have a choice (no Spanish players for me) but I'll captain Suarez myself.

Thoughts on WC + Max Captain Team:

    Sommer / Ben Mustafa
    Kimmich / Ramos / Rodriguez / Granqvist / Hegazy
    JRod / Quintero / Jedinak / Sassi / Inui
    Ronaldo / Costa / Neymar

My thought would be that you might end up regretting that WC come the QFs. Forward line looks great for this round though tbf!

Are you on wildcard? What have Messi and Argentina shown so far to deserve to be considered?

Oh, and congratulations on your win vs. Peru - you single-handedly carried your team over the line with your Kane (C) and Inui, despite our Colombia power.

We were so close mate - we took the lead thanks to all the Lukakus in the team yesterday, and basically the only way they could beat us was if Kane went berserk (which of course happened!). Colombia defence and James came through for us but it wasn't enough as this guy above had Inui 😛

Basically all three of us in team Peru outscored two out of their three, apart from Top Lad Dakes who got like close to 90 and sealed the win for them.

    Best transfers to make;

    A) Danilo ---> Rodriguez (-4)
    B) Kane + Layun ---> Reus + Rodriguez (-4)
    C) Kane + Danilo ---> Messi + Rodriguez (for captain option)

    thanks.

Final team. Pretty happy with this.

    El-Hadary, Ochoa
Carvajal, Pique, Fagner, R. Rod, Kimmich
    Sigurdsson, Quintero, Inui, Kroos, Jedinak
    D. Silva, Messi, Reus

Loads on here seem to be wildcarding?
I think it's well worth holding until the QFs. Prob just the two transfers here (-4) and hope for the best 🙂

I am sort of considering wildcarding just so can I take a few punts on teams with easy fixtures and to get a few players who are sure to rise in price after this round (Kane and Inui for instance). I'll probably hold off though as my team isn't in horrible shape. Although I do have doubts in Lukaku and Meunier, I'll likely just make 2 moves for Danilo and Meza out.

I think Lukaku will be rested for the England game. I sold him + Varela for Reus + Marcelo.
I'm not sure price rises will have much of an effect on this game?

Yeah probably not, I guess I'm against wildcarding although I have considered it as I said. I'll just risk leaving Lukaku and Meunier in, since Danilo and Meza are the only certain absentees (one through injury and the other if we're to believe Kuntheman's line-up leaks - which have been spot-on so far).

Yeah, think best to hold off on the WC in this format. QFs look a no-brainer time to use it on paper but who knows eh!
The Bel v Eng game could be hilarious btw if both teams fancy finishing second to avoid a tougher draw 😉

Haha yeah - has there been a match in previous world cups with both teams trying to lose? Trying to think but I don't have anything off the top of my head.

Cant recall one mate. But it would be a bit silly anyway for those two to thinking that way anyway. THey will need to beat the likes of Brazil/Germany at some stage anyway so might aswell be in the QFs as SFs!

I hope Serbia surprise them as I've got Mitrovic, but I'd pick Coutinho - he's the better player and in better form, no need to overthink.

The way they played v the Swiss second half, they could be in for a hiding v Brazil. Hopefully as I've now Marcelo in addition to Neymar(C)! Mitrovic could easily bag a goal though 😉
