World Cup Transfer Tips: Semi-Finals – The Big Numbers

Just four teams remain at the 2018 World Cup after the culmination of the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Fantasy managers now only have players from France, Belgium, England and Croatia to choose from, with Uruguay, Brazil, Sweden and Russia assets surplus to requirements.

Those who are playing the McDonald’s FIFA World Cup game have five free transfers with which to shake up their squads, although Fantasy iTeam managers will have to make the most of their three allotted transactions (a fourth can be purchased with credits) if they are to field 11 playing assets at the semi-final stage.

Up to six players per country can be selected in our Fantasy squads at this point.

After their goals for Belgium and France in the two countries’ respective quarter-finals, Kevin De Bruyne (£9.8m) and Raphael Varane (£6.0m) are attracting the most investment in the McDonald’s FIFA game at this early stage.

With the likes of Neymar, Philippe Coutinho, Diego Godin and Andreas Granqvist to jettison from our teams, where should the money be reinvested? Our team-by-team analysis of Opta’s World Cup data, which is updated and available to Fantasy Football Scout members immediately after the end of each match, gives us strong clues as to which players’ underlying statistics could translate into Fantasy points and which assets are best avoided.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

...Deulofeu's good? Not getting all this Deu love.

There's quite a bit for 5.5m and below.

MacArthur CPL at 5.0 is decent

There's a lot of Reuben Neves WOL love at 5.0

Tom Davies at Everton is 5.5m if Silva plays him

You can get Hendo or Ferdandinho for 5.5m in the deeper lying midfield roles. Kante and Matic too...though they've got less attacking potential.

Aaron Mooy, Van La Parra, Knockaert from the lower teams are all in budget too.

Ki Sung Yung's moved to NEW at 5.0...he's decent if he plays.

I feel like the Deulofeu wagon is based more on his reputation than Fantasy potential. He's still on my watchlist though.

Also, I see some good options there but most of them seem to be playing at a defensive role. Would you have any of them as your 4th mid?

I'd avoid Spurs like the plague at the start of the season.

They've got more first team players (nine) going deep into the WC and will either miss the start of the season or return without having a break and be knackered.

Moving to a new stadium...settling in there might take time.

      Harry Kane's August curse.

The whole Heung Min Son military service thing...he might not be available til early Sept.

I like that Fabianski pick but his fixtures put me off.
He will be in my team for sure but not from the begining.

TL;DR Meunier will be suspended on Tuesday

Belgium's Thomas Meunier collected his second yellow of the campaign on Friday versus Brazil and is suspended for Tuesday's match against France.

France's Blaise Matuidi served a suspension during their Friday tie with Uruguay after earning his second yellow card of the campaign during their clash with Argentina, but will be eligible to play in Tuesday's fixture.

No other player remaining in the tournament is on more than a single yellow, and these, as FIFA's rules stipulate, will be erased going into the semifinals:

If they pick up their second yellow card of the tournament before the quarter final finishes then the player is suspended for the next game (semi). If they have only picked up one yellow card by the end of the quarter it is re-set.

Belgium. I've really underestimated Martinez coming into the WC, but he's proven that his a master in tactics. I think that it'll be a battle of coaches. With the squad depth and talent at the disposal of both teams, it will be tight, but Im going for a 2-1 Belgium.

I think France, Belgium might feel they have achieved something already and that Kante/Pogba midfield seems to have really clicked. Griezmann & Mbappe should have a lot of joy against Kompany too... Also BraIl were actually rubbish, but if that Neymar shot at the end was an inch to the right they probably go on to go through.

I think Belgium have pinched above their weight & are at the end of the road.

So watch them go & beat France 2-1 now lol

Yeah makes sense. Plus you have ten transfers before then and third place play off means you can maximise it.

However.. rotation for that game who knows what would happen.

If god forbid England don’t beat Croatia I could see a similar team to Belgium in that

Yeah, it’s risky but I’d rather have that chance of getting 15 out than going short next round

Have a BB too, playing this round I think,

Bench will be Pickford, Young, Chadli, Witsel

How do these 5 transfers look?

    Inui > Lingard
    Isco > Pogba
    Coutinho > Chadli
    Granqvist > A Young
    Miranda > L Hernandez

What prices are the newly promoted boys to FPL worth?
Based on what their points would be had they been playing in the PL last season with the stats they produced in the Championship.
Obviously there's question marks over them repeating last year's form with the step up.

      Points in this one seems to be a bit off. This one is more correct;

There could be some gems from newly promoted teams this season.

Ralls & Cairney look pretty cheap bench options if planning to play 3 in midfield

        Ralls: Price £5m Worth £5.5m
        Cairney: Price £5m Worth £6m

Surely there's logic in loading up on fresh players who haven't been in the WC. Aub looks like a good shout for Arsenal, does he not? Also think 13m for Salah is really over the top.

      13m for Salah is fair.

Auba maybe on the early WC for me.

      Early fixtures are tough.

I honk Lacazette looks better value at 9.5 as he was actually scoring more than Auba towards the end of last year. If Emery picks Lazercat, he could be a steal. Although Auba is class.

I honk 13m is about right for Salah. Watch him go score 12 points v West Ham with everyone having him as captain & a double price in first week etc, it’s too dangerous not to have him imo

Interesting thoughts Maximus. Is Lacazette preferred then do you think? What sort of formation will he go with?

Honestly m not sure, if I think there is a good chance that Auba could play as a wide attacker with Laca through the centre, or vice versa, it’s all up in the air. It was a bold move by FPL to let Laca be 1.5 cheaper than Auba though instead of 1.0 or 0.5, as it keeps them both as viable options

My thoughts exactly on Salah. Tried to convince myself to settle for Mane, couldnt do it.

No love for Vardy in FPL at 9.0? Undisputed penalty taker now if Mahrez goes plus a pretty good chance of 20 goals again this year. Could be a good partner for Firmino up front

Like him, but Salah and Kun or Kane with at least one prem defender kind of knocks him out of the price range for a 2nd striker for me.

Mahrez leaving will be detrimental to their goal scoring prospects. He's overpriced for that reason imo.

He's a watch and wait. If Mahrez leaves where does the creativity come from? They looked horrible at the end of last season.

Vardy is a good diffy imo, but he is very much a form player. Im not yet willing to take the risk.

Pls help - I have 10 (ten!) players eliminated before the semis but still got 9 points lead in my mini league. 5 free transfers would mean only 10 men squad and no reserves - should I take a hit or more, or maybe look for differentials, considering my closest rivals will have no problem assembling 15 men squads?

Non fantasy, who is the better RWB, Meunier or Trippier?

Trippier was a top right back who’s become a wing back because he’s so good offensively, whereas Meunier was a distinctly average full back who wasn’t quite good enough to be a winger so compromised at wing back. It has to be Trippier.

May be daft question but I’m confused.... Is 3/4th playoff match included in McDonald’s ff game? So anyone we choose for semis will have 2 matches left no matter who goes through to final?

So glad I read this site before doing my WC!! Do teams usually play their strongest team in the 3/4th play off do you know? Or put the ‘b’ team out?

It varies, teams seem to rest key players but give younger stars who have been starting a chance. Not an exact science but we’ll have the lineups before the deadline anyway.
