Crystal Palace look set to be a source of effective budget options in the early part of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Eagles favourable fixtures in the first nine Gameweeks, combined with some impressive underlying numbers towards the end of last season, mean there are viable options to consider in defence, midfield and attack.

Under Roy Hodgson, Palace made improvements in more than 20 key areas last time out compared to 2016/17, and that is expected to continue into the new campaign.

That data is available to Fantasy Football Scout members to look at in the Members’ Area, and they can also read our in-depth analysis of it in the article below.

Want to get the team sorted before holiday. Any views on this?

    Schmeichel (Fabianski)
    Alex-Arnold, Daniels, Maguire (Miranda, Bednarek)
    Eriksen, Mahrez, Sterling, Neves, Mooy
    Aguero, Aubameyang (Joselu)

Took a gamble and no Salah - am I insane?

I’ve crumbled mate. Did D Silva and Mane to Salah and 4.5 fodder. Used the spare 0.5 to turn Daniels into Lovren

Think he’s more likely to be rotated. Gomez and Clyne can both play RB. Lovren pretty much established as VVD’s partner. All still subject to change of course - Gomez could also play CB

I was aiming for team not playing in World cup but succumbed to a few who played a bit!
I won my mini leagues last season but was 200k overall so any help welcome!

    Fabianski/Foster
    Alonso, Robertson, Ake/van Aanholt, (Boly)
    Sane, Mane, Siggurdsson, Richarlison, (Neves)
    Aguero, Tosun, Austin.

Mostly with first 6 weeks fixtures in mind.

Have 1.5 to add to Richarlison over few gameweeks.
Thinking Ramsey in GW3. (Maybe Aubameyang for Kun, see how goes).
Hoping Austin gets an early run but looking at King or Wilson if they start well.

No Salah or Kane. Will wait a few weeks to see how goes.
Wanted to spread the money around a bit!

Is the problem of World Cup late stage players being given time off really going to be as bad as people think? No way can Man City, Spurs and Chelsea afford to give an extended break to so many key players 😕

    1. Piggs Boson
      • 14 Years

I think it depends on who they have as alternatives.

Players like Firmino & Lukaku are too important to bench. Whereas Clyne can come in for TAA.

2 weeks of training could mean they're back in GW2. Which make GW three the worst case, really, unless they're not integral to their team anyway. Naturally, 3 weeks of training (too much) would be GW3, and 1 week would be GW1. Please, people, correct me if that's wrong.

Well Argentina played in the 2014 final

Kun was benched 1st game but started the 2nd if that's helps give an idea.

If every player was given an extended rest half the big teams would be screwed

Did you see KDB in the second half today? Guy is obviously knackered, hes played all matches for a full year now. No way hes starting the season for City. Other players are in the same situation and its only an unnecessary injury risk to start playing them. Im expecting many of them to not feature much until September.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years

Bold expectation. What does 'much' mean here? Do you think KDB will start a game before September?

        1. Brosstan
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 18 days ago

KDB, no. Others like Kane where the cover is awful will play earlier. Of course I cant know for sure but City's squad should be deep enough with players who havent played as much as KDB for him to get some rest. After Arsenal they face Huddersfiield and Wolves and then its September.

The problem is that if Spurs rush all those assets back, they could be blowing up badly by Christmas.

Still bold, but I'll take it. You can't take any game for granted in the prem. Sure City has bags of quality, but KDB is Mr City, and he ensures victories for the team. We'll see if there are any clues in before the beginning of the season.

By "ensures" I'm exaggerating, of course. I mean in the sense that he makes the victories happen, rather than having to hope that they can do it without him.

Another premature article. We do not even know if Zaha will still be at the club or which players will be bought in.
Will the articles be redone and updated as situations change? If not then it just seems poor timing to bring them out now

    WC strategy for Final:
Load up on players that will play in the actual final?
    or
Pickup the bench players that will play in the 3rd place match?

See the lineups for the playoff and decide.

Defenders for final. Attackers for third place is viable. But depends on your ML goals.

3rd place, mostly. You get a free teamsheet, so I'll just whop 5 of those players into my team and be done with it 😀 Probably have to remove a coupl players from those teams who are already in my team anyway due to rotation/droppage. And the game might be higher scoring. If I have any luxury transfers left over, I might make one or two changes for the other match but more likely just 1 or 0. 🙂 Hope that's insightful!

FPL should reserve the right to alter players prices before the deadline.

I reckon Sterling and Mahrez are pretty much dead as options because of rotation nightmares so maybe knocking a million or so off their price tags might bring them back into the market.

They shouldn’t launch the game so early. They can’t go tweaking prices once launched.

      Genuinely run by idiots.

Well it is understandable they launch early as they want to give casuals time to join the game.

Maybe if they just left it until the last week to lock the prices it might work better and if you have happened to pick a team before a player got a price hike and your TV was over £100m make it so you can not make a transfer until you brought your TV to £100m or below.

        1. Richd

Yeah kind of makes sense but that’s then confusing for casuals.

I guess there’s pros and cons but they could have waited until after the World Cup final at least !

Nah, if at any point Mahrez becomes as nailed as Sane or Sterling were last year (i.e not even 100%), even for just a few weeks, his price will be right (or too little). and many people will jump right on the bandwagon. I think that's less true of Sterling, but only because I feel he was a little overpriced already (many disagree).

FPL know we don't stick with a poor expensive options for long. The don't want a situation in which everyone buys the same player because it's a no-brainer, and I don't think anyone here wants that either. If you knocked a million off their price, people aren't going to start purchasing them for rotation with other players I don't think. And then if there's a period of 3-37 weeks in which one of them is nailed, we'll have a Salah EO situation on our hands :/

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 18 days ago

I think what might be a better solution is a different price change mechanism in which they can adjust the price manually during the season without managers losing (too much?) money. I had a decent idea about how to do this once, but I forgot exactly what it was.

Yeah i thought Sterling was a bit overpriced to start with too.

You make a good point that if they are rotation problems at a high price they are at a lower price too.I bet if they released the game after this transfer news that both players would be at least £.5 cheaper though.

Sterling, you'd have to think so, yeah, because he would have been one of the more nailed attackers, otherwise. Mahrez, not sure; it is the best team the prem has ever seen, which was true the year before, when City mids were 8.0-8.5. 🙂

    Evening all,

I'm trying something different this year, by maximising value in defence and midfield:

    RMT please:

    Fabianski (Speroni)
Alonso (if Conte stays), Azpi, Robertson, Mendy, (Schelotto)
Salah (C), Eriksen, Mahrez, David Silva, Walcott
    Tosun, (Kamara), (Quaner)

    Thoughts?

They've signed Bobby Reid so he's far from nailed. Zohore's not very good anyway - I'd avoid.

        hmm...

looked at Reid too but it seems as if he could potentially be playing on the wing or playing as a reverse OOP in midfield

        probably best avoid both then?

Yeah, I'd avoid both. I've spoken to some Cardiff supporters and they're unhappy with Zohore's performances - woeful, apparently. 9 goals in a promotion winning side simply isn't enough. Also, he wasn't called up to the World Cup even when Denmark struggled for strikers.
