As the first match of the 2018/19 Premier League season creeps ever closer we switch focus to Sky Sports’ Fantasy game.

We have launched our Free League for the campaign and you can find details of how to join it below.

Here we go over the basics of the game before we delve into more detail in the coming days.

How do I play?

Just like in FPL you select a squad of players that will either earn you attacking, defensive or bonus points in an attempt to score more than your friends, colleagues and/or the rest of the world. However, you choose simply a starting XI and do not have a bench.

Gameweeks run from Friday to Thursday with managers allowed transfers in between Gamedays, allowing maximisation of potential points by bringing in an asset yet to play for one who has already been involved that week.

Also, instead of one free switch per Gameweek (and a maximum of two if a previous one is saved), the Sky Sports game allocates 40 transfers that can be used any time during the season, with a limit of five in one Gameweek, creating the need for a more long-term strategy.

Wildcards, or Overhauls, are also available in Sky Sports. The first one becomes available to use following the completion of Gameweek 4 and remains an option until the deadline for Gameweek 6. The second one becomes active after the final match of Gameweek 27, through Gameweek 28 and until the Gameweek 29 deadline.

In Sky Sports Fantasy you can name more than one captain in a Gameweek depending on who is playing on which day. Managers are limited to one captain per day allowing them to potentially have up to four in one Gameweek and get double points for all of them. For example, if there were fixtures on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in any given Gameweek, a Sky Sports Fantasy manager could name a different skipper on each of those match days, providing they did so before that day’s deadline. Managers can also schedule their captains ahead of a Gameweek too.

How do you score points?

The points structure is largely similar to FPL in Sky Sports Fantasy but tends to award more points for the actions mentioned below.

Action Points scored
Starting XI 2
Substitution appearance 1
Goal scored by a goalkeeper/defender 7
Goal scored by a midfielder 6
Goal scored by a striker 5
Goal assist 3
Clean sheet by a goalkeeper (must play 60+ mins) 7
Clean sheet by a defender (must play 60+ mins) 5
A penalty save by a goalkeeper 5
Man of the Match 5

Can My Team Lose Points?

Unfortunately, just like in FPL there are a few ways to lose points too.

Action Points scored
Missing a penalty -3
Every goal conceded from the second goal onwards -1
Each yellow card -1
Each red card -3
Each own goal -2

How do Bonus Points work?

Just like FPL there are additional points on offer for other events in matches, although the structure is slightly different, as you will see below.

Tier 1 Action
Points scored
5 saves made (GK only) 2
3 tackles made (all) 2
60 completed passes 2
3 shots on target 2
Tier 2 Action
Points scored
7+ saves made (GK only) 3
5+ tackles made (all) 3
70+ completed passes 3
5+ shots on target 3

How do I play against my friends?

There are a number of different ways to compete against others in Sky Sports Fantasy. You can create or join a Free League with your friends and colleagues but there are ways to win money too.

Sky Sports can actually administer your money league for you to avoid any awkwardness post-season. You can choose the entry fee (either £2, £5, £10 or £20 per person) and the prize structure beforehand and Sky Sports will take care of the rest.

How can I join the Fantasy Football Scout league?

As usual, we have got a league on Sky Sports Fantasy. It’s called FFScout and you can join using the code 8386881.

Right trying the rotation keepers option.
Begovic & Hennessey have 10 home games between them. Only playing Liverpool out of top 6! Worth a try to put more money outfield to get more points potentially

Rate this people. Please n thanks for any comments!

    Begovic
    Azpi Coleman Robertson
    Jota Salah Sane Richarlison
    Zaha Firmino Arnie

Bench Hennessey Ward(B) Stephen s Tompkins.
Good opening fixtures with use of bench also for easier games. On paper of course, no easy games as we know!

Havnt Palace signed a new keeper though?> Not sure if Hennessey will remain #1, He lost his spot to Speroni for a period last season.

They are both terrible keepers. Why would you select them? They are also terrible at stopping penalties. Bonus is also not great, especially for Begovic.

      Don't do it.

I'm monitoring the Zaha situation closely. If he stays at Palace fine, if he goes to Spurs he won't be nailed any more. Thoughts?

Yeah about right. Even if he did stay he might be a bit sulky early on so he's one to monitor IMO. Palace games get properly brilliant from GW4 onwards.

Richarlison vs. Jota -- who would you pick between these two?

Also, if Richarlison, do you think Neves will match Jota's points?

    1. Miguel Sanchez

I have both - if I had to pick I would go Richarlison. Don't think Neves will match Jota - Neves gets booked a lot

However, he's on pens I saw.

Don't think that is certain he is on pens. Has historically been rotated at Wolves quite a bit. In Championship 17/18 they had 6 pens taken by 6 different players (only miss was in fact Neves)

I would choose Richarlison to start the season. Neves plays too deep for me to believe he will match Jota's points.

Cant see Neves getting anywhere near Jotas points. Defensive Mid who picks up bookings, Vs a guy who scored loads last year and could very well play upfront

New to the site, would really appreciate feedback on my current squad.

    Ederson (Hamer)
Robertson / Cedric / Daniels / Ward / Wan Bis
    Eriksen / Mane / D Silva / Richarlison / Cairney
    Aguero / Firmino / Zaha(Tosun)

All feedback is appreciated. Who do you think is a better player to start with given that I plan to use an early wildcard; Tosun or Zaha?? Also looking to swap Eriksen for Alexis possibly but I'm not sure where the best place in the team to make up the 1.0 would be. Thanks for any help.

Decent. Not too excited about Cedric/Daniels/Ward though. For a Salah-less team, seems like you can do better at the back. I'd get another premium def coupled with Tomkins/Doherty who I think the better 4.5s.

Eriksen is fine, I'd say he can more than match what Alexis gonna get in a couple of gw. Unless you wanna captain Alexis.

Any suggestions or thoughts on ways to freshen up and keep mini leagues engaging and competitive would be much appreciated.

We currently have a main league, a head to head, a two tiered quarterly league which offers promotion and relegation, and two beat the drop leagues, one where the bottom team is out, one where the lowest point scorer of the week is out. We also have weekly prizes and manager of the month so overall we have good engagement.

However, if anyone has something they do that works well and keeps mini league rivals engaged I would love to hear it.
    Thanks.

Getting close to the final team I reckon. Let me know what you think:

    Pickford (Speroni)

    Robbo Baily Bavies (AWB Bennett)
    Salah Mkhi Richar Pedro Eriksen
    Kun Arnie (Zohore)

    Thanks!

Tempted to work it to a 4-3-3 and get King in over Zohore upfront for first few fixtures by maybe dropping Mkhi and downgrading Bavies to cheaper options.

I think PVA might be the best there. Palace could get a few cleanies in the first run of games plus he has genuine goal threat as an Alonso-lite (ends up in the area all the time).

Everton's defence looks poor so I've abandoned Coleman for now, and Digne will take game time from Baines so avoid him.

Unsure about Maguire - could be an option if he goes to United for big money, but less so at the start of the season for Leicester.

        • 8 Years

Yeah, I agree. If Maguire is going to United, I think he is a must have.

        Zaha or Arnie? both?

Atm my top 3 are: Aguero, Zaha, Tosun (will start to take pens.)

Or should I replace Tosun with arnie?

        1. Shatner's Bassoon
          • 8 Years
          8 years, 1 month ago

I think you should replace Zaha with Arnie...

Zaha might end up reverse OOP if they get a striker, and he might end up sulking a bit in early games if he doesn't get the move he clearly wants.

Arnie is bang in pre-season form after a strong end to last year, and showed he can do it in big games - so liv/ars isn't as big a problem as people are making out, in my view. BOU/WOL is tempting enough to ride out those two anyway even if he does blank.

I think later in the season there'll be more rotation at Liverpool than last year

Unless him or Mané can play the CAM role, shaq will be second choice to Mané. However, looking at Mané’s positioning last year and the fact he has taken the no.10 shirt, it is a possibility Mané plays no.10 this year with shaqiri on the left. This is really just speculation but it is a possibility. Wait for pre season we’ll soon find out.

Kind of standard, but thoughts on this team lads?

    DDG
    Robertson • Mendy • Ward • Daniels
    Salah • Eriksen • Mahrez • Gudmundsson
    Aguero • Zaha

Bench: Stekelenburg, Wan Bissaka, Quaner, Stephens

Mahrez, Aguero, Mendy are all rotation risks. Your bench seems too weak for that. I can see the merits of a weak bench and maximizing starting 11, but I really think you need to change Mahrez to mane and Mendy to someone like Davies or Azpi. That way you have just 1 rotation risk instead of 3 which is better with your bench.

Yeah, Daniels is an issue. Expect Burnley to keep some CS's so I've gone for Ward.

I think it's a solid team although Cook is apparently a better choice than Daniels and I'd say downgrade DDG to Fab/Foster rotating combo and beef up one of your subs. Probably Quaner to a 6.5.

        Thanks!

The issue I have with Cook is his gametime but yeah he did equally good last season in 300 minutes less. I was thinking of going for the rotation GKs and upgrading Daniels to a 5.5 defender. DDG has bitten me in the backside last season so I'm hesitant.

Yep, always a player who can get at least 10+ goals a season, but can’t really with his injury record. Shame.

What do people see as the best rotating cheap defenders? Team wise I mean. Wolves and West Ham?

Arnie has some tough fixtures & I don't fancy Mitrovic tbh. Hope you have a rotating GK for Fabianski.

Or Auba to Firmino if you want to redistribute funds. I think 2x Liverpool attack is almost essential

I’m a Liverpool fan, so don’t mind hearing that. But my thinking is arsenal will be the attack to go with to begin with this season

I already own Sané and Firmino
    What's the best option :
    A) Alexis Sanchez + Kun
    B) Salah + Tosun
