Introduction to the article type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Gregor has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Gregor’s RMT

Gunn/McCarthy, Fabianski
VVD, Bailly, Mendy, Cook, Wan-Bissaka
Salah, Silva, Mahrez, Mkhitaryan, Ward
Firmino, Zaha, Mitrovic.

Goalkeepers
Two great value looking goalkeepers for £9m with perfect home and away rotation and good home fixtures to start the season. If there’s doubt over the Southampton number one though I may get Foster and bring Cedric in as my £4.5m defender.

Defenders
I’ve gone with van Dijk over Robertson due to slight concern around Robertson missing the odd game around Champions League ties, if Liverpool get a tough group.

Bailly seems assured to start the season and no reason to think he won’t then keep his place. £5.5m to cover United’s defence looks too good to miss.

Mendy looks underpriced due to previous injury problems, cheaper than Walker and should be good for assists.

What I like about Cook is that he’s very bench-able as you don’t expect much from a Bournemouth defender, but he has the potential to produce when called upon and also offers perfect home and away rotation with Wan-Bissaka, who looks a no brainer for bench fodder at £4m – nice fixtures too.

Midfielders
Salah, the obvious GW1 captain, and I (hope) expect Liverpool to make a strong start before the fixtures stiffen.

Mahrez is nice and rested and Silva looks a great price for a guy seemingly nailed on before the family problems, and City’s fixtures from GW’s 2-7 make a City triple up seem entirely sensible.

Mkhitaryan could be an absolute steal at £7m. Tough opening fixtures but just can’t ignore a player of this quality at that price though.

Cardiff’s Danny Ward as £4.5m bench fodder, subject to change; he has a goal threat which is unusual at this price point, and easy to bench as you would expect Cardiff to struggle.

Forwards
Bobby Firmino up top to further tap into the Liverpool attack, with strong early fixtures and a nice price. I’d be surprised if he’s not fit to start GW1.

Zaha, the Palace talisman with pre-season form and strong early fixtures. I do worry he might move though so also got my eye on Tosun for this slot.

Mitrovic just edges out Austin for my third striker slot for now due to surety of starts, funded by trading Sane for Mahrez. Have always liked Mitrovic and should continue to thrive at Fulham now he’s the main man.

Conclusion

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

Remember, post your RMTs below in this article. There will be another new RMT Community Article tomorrow.

I think I'm settled - it's a bit punty but got to take the risks!

    Fabianski/Foster
    Mendy/Azpi/Robertson/Cedric/AWB
    Ozil/Sigurdsson/Cairney/Mane/Sane
    Auba/Arnie/Bobby Reid

    One eye on the CS...

Risks I see include Sane, Mendy and Cedric getting time, Ozil and Sigurdsson recapturing old form, and no Salah.

    Any other thoughts?

ITB? Same risk I prefer go with David Silva than Sane

        0.5ITB.

Could also go a 5.5 keeper (Ederson or Allison) and a benchwarmer (Stek) and that would use the 0.5m.

Thought Sane would rip it up not having been at the World Cup but isn't getting much game time. Not sure DSilva is nailed either?

No Salah could end in tears if he fires home to West Ham

Don't like Ozil with his first fixtures and Richarlison better value than Siggy i think

Not sure Bobby Reid will get many chances at Cardiff and Mitro or Wood might be better with a bit more cash.

      Rest of it looks good.

Cheers. Bit wary of Richarlison's latter Watford form. Siggy on set pieces too swings it for him in my opinion.

Ozil is just a feeling, a punt. Could be changed later, maybe to someone like Pogba when he returns.

Bobby Reid is a rotation option from the bench to rotate with Cedric, AWB and Cairney. Would thought he'd play given they've just spent a fair wad on him - unless I'm missing something? Unproven though. Don't like Wood with Europa, Mitrovic is a bit too expensive.

    Schmeichel - Stekelenburg

    Bellerin - Mendy - TAA - AWB - Cedric

Salah - Sane* - Mkhitaryan - Siggy -Ward*

    Auba - Zaha - Wood*

Thinking of switching but unsure to: Sane -> Dilva, Wood -> Arnie, Ward -> Cairney to strengthen my bench.
Also if Schmeichel stays at Leicester I'll swap the keepers to McCarthy & Fab.
    Any thoughts welcome

Sane, Mendy or Silva wait after CS.
Agree Cairney to Ward. More flexibilty for formation. Concern about Belerin, Emery have history for full back rotation

Definitely do Wood to Arnie don't like Burnley with potential europa rotation and Arnie is the Hammers talisman

Not sure if Miki nailed and prefer Richarlison for fist two fixtures at least. You have Auba so if Arsenal blank in first two it could cost you having him and Miki.

      Cheers folks.
I will indeed be keeping an on the CS.
That's a good point about Auba and Miki.
Just one arsenal attacker is probably enough, its just transfers are so precious over the first few weeks I'm trying to stay ahead of the curve.

Very good team - Pedro the question for me never seems to nail a spot week in week out

The other weakness is no City defence and they should rack up clean sheets in the early weeks, maybe try to work in Ederson or Mendy somehow - Cedric to Peltier and Foster to Speroni would get you Ederson.

Any thoughts? Bilva is an early punt, the other thing I’m considering is Robertson to TAA and Kabasele to Bailly.

    Patricio
    Robertson Mee Tomkins Kabasele
    Salah Sanchez Eriksen Bilva
    Auba Arnie

    Bench; Norris Wan-Bissaka Stephens Kamara

    Bit of fun!

Name 3, new, or underperforming players from 2017/18, that you think will have a great season ahead?

From Pedro to J.Maddison, J.King, Toson, Iheanacho, Sessegnon, Jahanbakhsh, Willian, Schurrle, Yarmolenko, Elyounoussi, Kennedy, Sigurdsson, Anderson, Townsend, Moura, Jota, Nelson, Fabregas, Martial, Barkley, Bailly, Boly, Sakho, Cook, Rudiger, Sokratis, Shaw, and Patricio... to name just a few with the potential.

    My 3 are:
    1. Sakho (5m): I think he is a solid defender and a bonus point magnet.

    2. J.Maddison(6.5m): Young hungry and hopefully links up well with Vardy.

    3. Fabregas (6.5m): Should Chelsea quickly find the attacking style Maurizio Sarri likes to play then I think Chelsea has a few golden nuggets in thier midfield.

    1. Are you Shaw?
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 19 days ago

      1. Fabregas if Sarri actually pulls off a wonder season and takes Chelsea back to glory
      2. Shaw if he plays can defo be the best or 2nd best left back in the league (Man Utd are CS magnets)
      3. Sigurdson is just pure class and has freekicks and a very offensively improved Everton side (due to allyrdyce leaving)

    2. DavidLuizIsAHero
      • 12 Years

Sakho - BAPS magnet, great run of fixtures to get Palace up and running and a manager who will play to his strengths

Kennedy - 5.0 seems very cheap to me for his performances at the end of last year

Patricio - Wolves look strong and if they gel I can see them keeping a lot of clean sheets

Special mention to whichever Chelsea mids line up with Hazard, Kante & Jorginho all will be great value if nailed

Hi guys, what do you think of this team. Appreciate Gray is a bit of a punt but Watford have good fixtures and I can see him sticking a few away:

    Pickford
    PVA - Roberston - Doherty
    Salah - Mane - Erikson - Richarlison
    Laca - Arne - Gray

    (Patricio, cairney, cedric, WanB)

DEF - Robertson / Mee (or Ward) / Cedric / Tomkins / Wan-Biss (I know - probably too cheap but palace, burnley and soton fixtures are plum)

MID - Salah(C) / Sane (or Mahrez) / Richarlison (or Myki) / Costa / Kenedy

    ATT - Aguero / Firmino / Arnie

Nothing in the bank....... it's a bit top heavy but little value lower end of the strikers and a decent bit of value available at the back

I like it. Not sure about double Palace. Consider changing Tomkins to Doherty maybe. Or Wan Bissaka to Peltier (if he's healthy).

    Help please?

    Ryan (4.0)
    Tarkowski, Tomkins, Bertrand (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah, Sané, Milivojevic, Jota (4.5)
    Aguero, Auba, Arnautovic

Although Ryan doesn’t have great fixtures there will be plenty of extra points for saves.

really skimping on defence, I'd pick one out of Aguero and Auba and maybe look at Zaha or Firmino to allow you to get a Roberston/Mendy/VVD at the back

Forward line is lethal but it’s hurting the rest of the team. Defence is a tad light, not sure about Mili better options at that price imo

Probably would downgrade Auba to Firmino. And upgrade Bertrand to Robertson. And one 4m DEF to a 4.5m DEF.

    Button Doherty D.Ward WB

Reckon Burnley could be tired with all the EL games? (if they get through)

Just something to consider with your Ward and Wood picks

Valid point. Hopefully Ward and Wood don’t play. Only other thing to do is downgrade Rich to a 5m and upgrade Wood > Zaha and Ward > Bailly/Coleman etc

    Salah, Eriksen, Mkhi, Richarlison (Stephens)
    Aguero, Zaha, Arnie

    pickford
    tta bailly mendy
    salah eriksen dilva ramsey richarlison
    firmino arnie

    stekelenburg cedric wb kamera

been settled on this team for a few days now, but ramsey is an injury risk now might take a punt on fabregas but will watch the community shield first.
But if i do swap ramsey for fab i'll have an extra 1 mill in the bank what should i do with the extra money?

No sure fab is gonna get a run with the new signing. Wait on Ramsey if he's still injured easy downgrade to a 6.5/

Preliminary draft, feedback welcome. I drafted this in my down time at work and haven’t inspected the fixtures yet.

Leno / Pope (both depending on injury/choice)

    Daniels / Digne / Schar / Peltier / Moses

Shaquiri / Schurrle / Mkhitaryan / De Bruyne / Cairney

    Auba / Kane / Mitrovic

      • 11 Years

One of Leno/Heaton would do. You don't need both. Moses won't start as Chelsea will go to a back 4 with Azi at rb. Shaqiri likely only to start just gw1 (if that). KdB and Kane played a lot of mins at the WC, I would monitor them for GW1 start.

Defense is not ideal. I would start again. No offence.

I'd save 0.5 by downgrading Pickford to 4.5 GK or Begović to Stekelenburg, if you want Everton goalie.
Not sure if Pedro will keep his spot, when Willian comes back.

Downgrade one of Mooy and Neves - one will have to be on the bench so might as well splash the cash for 1 starter.
