Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

                Isolated, sure. Questions though:

                1) Could you fit Meling over Hedenstad? (He is by far looking the bigger threat now)
                2) Do you already have Pedersen up top?
                3) Do you have Håland? (alternatively: might be an idea to see how that one falls, his form is insane)

Brought in Haland against Brann, and had Pedersen for ages.

I feel like Meling is a bit overpriced considering the output of Rosenborg defenders and he's nearly as owned as much as Hedenstad. Can't go wrong now he's 6.9!

As long as he's fielded behind the striker. He was moved deeper when Stabæk scored yesterday.

My concern is that yesterday's result will force some changes. Hopefully not.

Him rotating deeper was part of a major shuffle when they subed, a direct result of all the injuries. He is still to play as the number 10, so with Konradsen and Trondsen back (and hopefully another signing coming in) that should not be a risk. Jensen still hot-ticket item, and looked sharp the first 15-20 mins before Stabæk got into the game.

Frustrating. I haven't budged much in 11 weeks, but don't want to take differential punts. Prefer to let others do that and fail, but so far everyone has the same idea and just differentiating by captain.

I'm done with playing it safe. Håland in this week!

Deadline day on Thursday, so if he's sold and loaned back it has to be done by then. Could obviously be sold later, but if he's loaned back it has to be done by deadline day.

Didn't think of that before I knee jerked him in. Expecting him to go to Salzburg with a loan back this week though.

I'm currently 73 points behind a mini league rival, even though he captains Bendtner almost every week. He always seem to pick up points no matter what, and I need to do something about his lead.

What players should I target the coming GW's? My punt with Eikrem hasn't been successful, and I might ship him out again. Johnson another one.

Johnson - only that he injured his foot playing for Liberia in the break:

Mostly looks fine to me. Personally thinking about more Molde but they (and Sarpsborg/Rosenborg) have another EL game this week so waiting on that.

Ouch. I’ve left next weeks armband on Pedersen btw 😉 I’ll probably forget to change it again.

Skjerve over Stølås in GW14 (think I was 0.1m short and managed to get the single worst Haugesund defensive option the last few weeks) has been my worst decision of the season. Consoling myself as it at least influenced my decision to start with van Aanholt in FPL.

Sorry, mate! Having a good season? I must say that it’s been a great learning experience for me to play a fantasy game without knowing much about the league- or the players.

Also playing Allsvenskan which I know almost nothing about and doing relatively best. Definitely plan to spend less time pondering on FPL this season.

What do you think about the Allsvenskan game? I don’t follow Swedish league football anymore but I was thinking about creating a team, ended up not doing it. Thought it looked rather complex, but I might be wrong(?).

Much the same although unlike Eliteserien watched half a Malmo game first week and haven't bothered since. So not caught up in actually enjoying the league as I do with Norway and individual players.

Love the in game defensive/attacking bonuses. Similar to telegraph game apparently, and they should do it in FPL - if not live then at the end b/c avoids the G/A extra + pts skew, widens viable choices, leads to less template.

Took all the stats seriously at the start but seem to have improved from just playing off headline team and player form/fixtures (bandwagons). As it started in gw3 of the league was initially a little annoying for assessing accrued points.

There seems to be more rotation and injuries, although perhaps I was just unlucky. Like Eliteserien and FPL seems easier now form has settled into more obvious (and more obviously avoidable) picks.

Interesting. Cheers. I started this season looking for advice on these great articles. As the season went on I went on to base my decisions on the form/fixture/bandwagons. But the main thing that’s made me relatively successful in FES is the highlights shown on the official page. Seems to be sufficient! Snatched up a tip a couple of weeks ago about James from Molde (Niemi I think). Let’s just say that’s one man I’m not listening to anymore 😆 No offence, Niemi 😉

Yeah be careful he got Håland this week... 😉

Eliteserien have done a good job with highlights and english version. I can see myself getting to a game one day. Found it much harder to find news and player info on Allsvenskan than Eliteserien (esp in English), but probably a function of great articles and discussion here.

Trying to be clever isn't always wise, should at least be sensible at the same time!

To be honest though, it's not totally unlikely James starts at the weekend. Håland have missed the last two EL games due to contract talks with Salzburg, so he's been rested for the Eliteserien games. If he play now on Thursday he could be rested for the weekend.

My guess is he still starts on Sunday, but could happen if he plays on Thursday.

Who knew Stølås perma captain was the way to go? Only four blanks all season.

Looked really impressive today. During the first 20 minutes he was everywhere. Long throws in to the box, taking FKs and bombing forward like a Mendy lite. Easily the best captain option in GW20.

Bamba rumoured to sign for Brann.

Deadline day is tomorrow. Håland's loan deal back to Molde would have to be determined by then. The last possible BGWs should be determined by the weekend.

Was coming here to post this. Seems like Bamba will happen. Brann willing to meet Kristiansund's demands and he also counts as homegrown. Great signing IMO, both for Brann and for fantasy. Straight to my watchlist.

Håland should stay on loan I think.

Do we have possible BGWs? I've missed that.

By the time of the deadline we should know with 99% certainty whether there will be any BGWs this season. I've primed my WC for this GW, but I'm waiting to pull the trigger.

It's 90% likely to not happen, but S08, Molde and Rosenborg can ask for postponement of games in GW20 if they reach the play offs.

For sure, 106.8 TV at the moment but lost quite a bit recently moving out a couple of players - I reckon there must be lots of teams close to or above 110 mill now

I have not owned The Lord much and found that I always had cash available due to a cheap but generally nailed bench of Vetlesen, Grorud & Tønne 🙂

People of knowledge - any help here would be appreciated. I have a FT but don't think I need to use it - what I do have is a benching dilemma... any thoughts??

                              Current line-up:
                              Barli
                              Tonne - Stolas - Hovland
                              Reginiussen (V) - Akintola - Hestad - Aursnes - EUA
                              Pedersen (K) - Braut Haland
                              Bench: Sahin-Radlinger - Wormgoor - Opseth - Lasse Nilsen

                              Thanks

I would play Wormgoor over Hovland, and Sahin-Radlinger over Barli.

As it is now you have two Ranheim defendesr and zero Brann, I would spread the risk and go one of each. But really I would go two from Brann since Worm is on penalties. And since Tønne is a "striker" and Stølås has his left foot, I would bench Hovland.

Cheers - Wormgoor over Hovland is likely a good move, but my reasoning is that Brann (however good their defence is) are playing Sarpsborg who has scored 9 in the last 3 games.
Ranheim, meanwhile, are home to bottom club Sandefjord.

Sandefjord under Marti Cifuentes is not really a bottom table team anymore.
They have been unlucky recently and I wouldnt be suprised if Sandefjord gets a victory on Ranheim newly laid pitch.
Sarpsborg plays in Europe tonight, and they could be a little hangover on Sunday.

                                      Good luck whatever you choose.

you have a very strong team = benching dilemmas
I agree with Wenger´s Coat on playing Worm instead of Hovland
but I would not double up on Brann defence against S08 (Barli/Sahin-R)
then you have Opseth on bench with 3 goals in two last home matches...
play him instead of double Molde mids away against a Stabæk team that looked decent against RBK last weekend...??

Thanks. Yep I've switched Worm but keeping the keepers as they are.
Opseth is an interesting one - the problem with dropping a Molde midfielder is which one...?
In the last 4 games Hestad has 1 goal and 5 assists, while Aursnes has 3 goals and 1 assist...

Agree with above about Wormgoor/Hovland. Currently starting both but if I replace Rashani will bench Hovland.

What time does the window close? Any updates on Håland or Bamba?

Bamba signed for Brann. They have also signed Rismark from Ranheim (CB), another Swedish CB, Grøgaard from Odd (LB) and Yttergård Jensen from Groningen (CM). Really good business. Løkberg from Ranheim also coming in from January.

Nothing happened with Håland. Noe it's not possible for Molde to loan him back. Hopefully Molde make a deal with Salzburg that doesn't come into effect before the January window, if not he's gone.

Håland situation is up in the air, could still be sold, but with the closed norwegian window it's unclear if they can sort any kind of deal for him to finish the season. I for one am disappointed this was not resolved yesterday.

Presumably they could still sell him as expected, but rather than loan back, arrange for the transfer to only take place at the end of the season?

That was what I wrote in the OP. Surely it's possible to make a deal where Salzburg buy him in January instead.

They haven't said it explicit, but Molde seems confident he'll stay out the season.

Think I'll bring him in, it's for Gytkjær so worth the risk.

                                        1 week punt:
Mane to Eriksen? If you have Salah and Robertson. Or is it too early to tell on Spurs form?
