Well past the halfway point, we are now ready to resume normal Fantasy Eliteserien service. We look ahead to upcoming Gameweek 18, overshadowed by the start of the FPL season, potentially giving managers a chance to catch their opponents out.

Chip-review

As a little review, we’ve looked at the Eliteserien chips to delve into their power and possibilities, here by looking at the maximum potential from the first half of the season.

Park the buss: Let’s get the obvious one out of the way: Park the Buss was a massive chip early on, as the double gameweeks in rounds 4 and 6 set up some huge scores for a lot of managers. Maximum payout for these gameweeks were 76 and 82 extra points respectively, and with a huge number of points for favourite players in gameweek 6.

2 Captains: Nailing your captain choice is always a difficult endeavour, but nailing 2 choices had some big potential if you targeted the double gameweek in gameweek 4. Gjermund Åsen alone picked up 30 points, with his teammate Kent-Are Antonsen delivering on a further 17; a potential 47 points there for the taking. Åsen was, at this point a popular choice, so quite a number of managers got a piece of this action as well.

Striker rush: Defying logic, the budget options take this one away, with a whopping 46 extra points being up for grabs in both gameweek 15 and 16. Central to these hauls are Molde youth star Erling Braut Håland, hauling 6 goals and an assist over the 2 gameweeks for 21 and 16 points respectively. He did this while Manchester United, amongst others, scouted him from the stands. Around him other budget names packed in some scores, with Frank Boli (Stabæk), Runar Espejord (Tromsø), Bendik Bye (Kristiansund), and Kristian Fardal Opseth (Bodø/Glimt) all scoring in double digits. While many might have had Håland in their side, few capitalised fully on the chip-opportunity for these rounds.

Gameweek 18 feature matches

Rosenborg – Stabæk
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Having sacked their head coach and his assistant, the caretaker coach set about adjusting the Rosenborg midfield somewhat, flipping the V for the midfield 3 and giving Mike Jensen the advanced number 10 role. This showed immediate effect as he netted a goal and banged one off the crossbar in their recent away clash against Ranheim. Jensen also showed some signs of form against Celtic in the champions league qualifier, and finally looks a decent option at his now 9.3 price tag. With their top 3 wingers on the injury-list, budget option Jonatan Levi is getting a lot of gametime, and has showed a lot of promise. We’re looking at him to break out against league straglers Stabæk this weekend. The lack of true wingers has also opened the striker spot for Alexander Søderlund, but he still looks a bit rusty and struggles to find the net. Niklas Bendtner is now out wide and not looking a big threat either. Birger Meling however firmly stakes his claim as the Eliteserien equivalent of Alonso, as he is storming up and down the line like a winger, seeing a lot of action in the box, and even netted a goal at Celtic Park in the qualifiers.

Molde – Brann
(Sunday, 5:00 P.M.)
Brann have been stumbling and are not looking as solid as they were in the first half of the season, but still look mighty strong. This matchup will be a true test as in form Molde are closing the gap fast to rejoin the title race, led by young star Erling Braut Håland and a solid midfield line. We’re looking at Eirik Hestad and Magnus Wolff Eikrem in the Molde midfield as big options as well. From Brann, Gilli Rolantsson once again scored in the last match, showing big potential. They have not had many penalties, but Wormgoor still looks a decent pick, and last match their midfield virtuoso Fredrik Haugen showed class with a great free kick in the back of the net.

MrKlin says..

In the midst of Europa League qualifiers, teams like Rosenborg, Sarpsborg, and Molde have hit the back half of the season running, looking to have picked up some form by their earlier resuming of play. This has resulted in good looking scorelines for the trio, but also offers rotation headaches for managers looking to get players in. Rosenborg and Molde are well covered, but Sarpsborg are, in addition to their qualifiers mid-week, heading in to a tough couple of games hosting, Lillestrøm and then away to Brann. Despite their form you might want to think twice about investing here, but putting Patrick Mortensen and Kristoffer Zachariassen on the watchlist now might be advisable. A huge home game for IK Start who, despite getting thumped by Brann, are showing signs of turning it around under new management. Winger Kevin Kabran is once more looking enticing and their next fixture is at home against a Ranheim team who are a bit out of form. An outside punt on Elliot Kack can also be considered, and at 4.2 this could be a good pick to free up some cash should you need it. Also have a look at Haugesund’s premium defender Alexander Stølås, who has scored good points in 3 of the last 4, and has some good fixtures coming up in his next 3.

Scout Picks

MrKlin’s picks for Gameweek 18

Bråtveit
Meling – Tønne – Stølås
Jensen – Akintola – Nguen – Levi – Kabran
Braut Håland – Pedersen

    Hi guys.

I'm working on a forum for Fantasy Eliteserien for next season. It will mainly be in Norwegian, but will also include an English section.

I just set up a testing version, so if anyone would want to join for some testing (and to give some feedback) please register below. I created a thread for this GW in the English section with lineups from this gameweek. Will also update with goals and assist. Feel free to join the discussion

Ignore the URL, forum name and such as this is just a test. It will get a proper name and domain for the proper version.

Basically to create a community for Eliteserien Fantasy

I'm not going to make community articles about Eliteserien for FFS for next season, but I'm planning to post content like the preview articles on the forum (in Norwegian and also in English if there are enough interest).

Currently thinking just Eliteserien Fantasy, but I might consider expanding to FPL as well if there are interest/traffic.

You get the idea looking at the forum. Currently I'm thinking about how to structure the forum with the hashtag and stuff.

I'm going to give it a proper name and buy a domain (proper URL).

I've posted my current thoughts on the hashtags here (you are Norwegian, right?). Feel free to give feedback on that and suggestions.

Interesting! An Eliteserien Fantasy community can be a good idea. There are Twitter accounts, etc - but there's always room for more content. 🙂

I like the hashtags; I have nothing to add, as it looks like these covers everything. I'll register a user tonight!

            There is.

I guess my thought is a replacement for these articles (well, unless someone else picks up the pen) and hopefully to get some of the traffic from places like VGD.

              it's a replacement*

I'm not going to lie, I don't know how attractive it will be. I think there is a market for it, but I don't know if it's possible to attract enough users. I guess there need to be content to attract people.

I'll give it a try for next season, if there's not enough users I will probably kill it after the season.

Worth giving it a go! If it doesn't work out, there's always the option of making a Twitter account for the same content – but that will of course require a different approach. Won't make the FFScout like community feel to it, of course.

Registered a user now. Forgot to carry the same username as I have here though (even though it's a lazy one). Oh, well.

Hi Niemi. Just had a quick look and it wasn't initially obvious where the language change was given the menus to go through are in Norwegian (albeit I found it quite quickly as you'd said there was one in the menu), would be easier if there were just a couple of flags at the top to select from. I like having the full lineups, but subs would be useful as well (especially for Molde at present). How much of the traffic are you expecting to be in English as this would be one of the main determinants as to how likely I would be to use it?

    1. Niemi
      • 12 Years
      8 years, 22 days ago

I can tell you now that I won't be making Fantasy Eliteserien community articles for FFS next season, but I might post similar articles on the forum (as threads). I'm not sure how much English traffic there will be, depends on if users here are keen to make the move for Eliteserien. If there are enough users then I have no problem producing content for you guys.

Thanks for the feedback on the flags. I'll look into what's possible to do. Another option is to make the forum English by default, but having the possibility to change to Norwegian.

No problem with Norwegian being the default language given the target audience is presumably primarily Norwegian. Shame there won't be articles on here but fully understand, both you and MrKlin especially have been a real help to myself and others on here. I currently keep one tab open for FPL and one for ES so it there was more information on the new site for next season, I'd definitely consider using it instead. Cheers.

I'll probably produce content for the start of the season for Eliteserien, but if there's not enough traffic then I won't keep it up.

Might even get it going properly before the end of this season.

Lehne Olsen and Meling in on wildcard 😉

Yet to play the wildcard myself, but should probably consider doing so. Bendtner was close to scoring in the first half, so it's still possible for him to get some points!

Yes, he looks much better as the central striker.

Jebali though. If he was a midfielder he would have been a no brainer. Might still be worth it as a left winger if he keeps this up!

    Smarason goal
    Bendtner (K) goal
    Lehne Olsen goal and assist

Hansen OG should be given as a Mos goal IMO, and that would mean an EUA assist. Outside chance they give it as a Meling OG, but I can't see it. Surely not a Hansen OG at least

I don't understand why people think it's not a Hansen OG. Meling clears the ball away and hits Hansen. Without Hansen touching it, I really struggle to see how Meling's clearance would go into the net.

I also have Hansen and EUA, so I it hurts a bit, but I think it's the correct decision.

After watching it from the angle where it's unclear what happens, I think it's a bit more dubious whether the clearance is going wide. Meling is standing further off the line than I thought. I would probably give a Mos goal because of the uncertainty.

I agree with you. It's really hard to say and I have no idea what will happen. 5 points swing for me, so I hope they give it to Mos. Not sure what's the correct decision anymore.

Not really. I have four strong defenders now (Wormgoor, Meling, Stølås and Rolantsson) that I will play ahead of him most weeks coming up, and also strong players in every other position (except for 5th midfielder). Could still have kept him, but when I decided I wanted Bendtner on Thursday I had to free up some money.

Bendtner does take a big part of the budget, doesn't he. Don't know if it's a good idea, but I'm looking at fielding just one Brann defender on WC. Still undecided about that, though.

Brann defence in itself isn't THAT attractive, but they are still among the best defences in the league and have kind fixtures. What makes me go double is Wormgoor's attacking threat, bonus points and penalties and Rolantsson being fairly nailed on OOP again. Both have massive attacking thread.

Slightly worrying for me that Teniste had to go off at half-time with an injury, which saw Rolantsson moving down to RB again. Hope it's nothing serious as the main reason I got in Rolantsson was him being OOP!

Rolantsson OOP is a good point though. Had a quick look at a potential WC team, and as far as that draft go, I need to go without him.

Looking up the Brann fixtures again right now, that's some tasty matches to double up in. Might be enough to reconsider, actually.

Brann are also one of just 3 teams with 6 home games left (rest have 4 or 5).

I'm pretty sure hits only count in h2h matches, not GW ranking.

They do say who the winner is on Twitter, so I assume you can check if someone has taken a hit and had the GW point score announced as the winning score.

No update. Similar injury to the one Fredrik Haugen had during the DGWs. Might come back, but be affected by the injury..

Jebali is definitely looking red hot. They don't really have alternatives, especially with Helland getting injured tonight, but he's now started 3 games in a week. Could he start 5 in two weeks?

I'd say wait until Thursday. I think Bendtner could get a rest midweek, but not sure if they got enough fit players to rest Jebali. Luckily RBKweb has been fairly good with the lineups a day or two ahead of their games, so hopefully we'll know.

Just as I write this I see that Strømsgodset have sent a request to the Norwegian football association about the goal. They want Mos to get the credit for it.

Fantasy told me they were 100% sure that Meling's clearance was going wide of the goal and that it was definitely a Hansen OG.

The Norwegian Football Association have now credited Mos with the goal instead of a Hansen OG. Obviously won't be changed in Fantasy now, but I hate the arrogance in how they were saying it's 100% an OG when there isn't any conclusive footage, and now the decision is reversed in real time.

What a farce. Cost me 5 points as a Hansen and Ulland Andersen owner 🙁

I can't take these appeals seriously after Kane got that goal.

I wish they were taking reviews on deflections a bit more seriously on both FPL and ESF. Akintola's header earlier this season was blatantly going wide. Opseth scored a goal in GW1 that was likely going wide. The best way to handle OGs is by rewarding the attacking player with the goal if the shot were possibly on target. I think that should be in the rules.

        • 12 Years

I agree with you, the inconsistency is frustrating. To be honest I think I benefitted from owning both Akintola and Opseth for those situations (although the point swing wasn't as big as both would have had assists instead).

I don't clearly remember the Akintola goal, but Opseth's shot definitely looked like it was going wide.

      Big-ups to Sarpsborg, well impressive...

Rosenborg also ready for EL, 2-0 away win today, both central defenders on the scoresheet.... thats what history will show..... but this game was really strange and André Hansen should in any fantasy-game have been worth tripple-cap + + with some amazing saves (including 2 pen-saves and they weren't outright bad pens either...)

Just saw the highlights from the Molde game too.... have to say I'm well surprised Zenit are in the EL group stage, what with their struggles last round and the huge number of chances Molde hammered against them tonight.... look for Molde players to take on Eliteserien with a vengeance now.... Aursnes, Hestad, Braut Håland, Wolff Eikrem ... all sailing up as big big targets for an ESN Fantasy squad.

    Wormgoor - Tønne - Stølås - Meling
    EUA - Eikrem - Smárason - Akintola
    Johnson* - Pedersen*
    (Barli - Koné - Nilsen - Vetlesen)

This is my team now. A bit stuck what to do, and tempted to WC – but is it WC worthy enough? With the WC as an option, I've done my one free transfer already, but I have issues up front, as you can see.
