What's the verdict on doing Özil + TAA -> Mkhi + Alonso for free?

Tad worried Mkhi might be rotated even though he is doing very well...

Bring in a wage cap. Works well.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

This makes more sense. People forget that the fee for signing a player is mostly compensation to the current employers. Arsenal, for example, don't "waste" money by speculating in the market in this way, which is their (Kroenke's) choice, but they pay a ton of money in wages. City, on the other hand, do both. And to ignore wages, is to ignore pretty much the biggest obstacle in climbing the ladder as a football team.

        1. Deulofail
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 6 months ago

That said, I don't think FFP does ignore wages. It's incomings vs outgoings, right. So a wage cap would effectively be a cap on the expansion of the company, since it will effectively limit their discretionary income available.

Turns out, I have no clue if your idea is good or not... 😆

Agreed. Hope I'm not the only one that finds it uncomfortable what Pep did at Bayern/now at City. Stockpiling talent for the sake of it. Bizarre that the players buy into it, being sat on the bench every other game.

Wrong Mourinho was the first manager to spend £1billion and he's still about £200m ahead of Pep https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/4187344/manchester-united-jose-mourinho-first-manager-to-spend-1billion-transfers/

You'd think you would compare like with like (while they have both been managing the Manchester clubs), but instead you add all his transfers over a longer period of time, where he also had to build 6 clubs (Chelsea twice) compared to Pep who has been around less and been at less clubs

They've only both been in Manchester for 2 years. As much as most FPL fans discount anything outside of England it's their entire managerial careers that matter.

But sure just while in England then net spend:
                Guardiola: +£388m
                Mourinho: +£302m
                Klopp: +£114m

Not that big a difference between Pep and Jose certainly not enough to plead pauperism or to justify the massive difference in squad quality.

Put into context though that city already had a strong team when pep took over Mourinho on the other hand inherited a mess.

He really didn't. Van Gaal spent much more than Pellegrini and both clubs finished on 66 points the season prior to Pep and Jose's arrivals.

Pep rebuilt an aging squad while Jose wastes top youth player like KDB, Salah and Martial.

ManU fans just can't own up that Pep has done a much better job and with the same resources.

Their entire careers matter of course but that's not a fair reflection when you are adding up spending. Jose had to turn Chelsea from 4/5th place team into champs (that takes big money) inter as well, while pep had UCL winning squads at 2 clubs.

However I agree on the in England point about 88 million net spending difference being a poor reflection on the two squads gap in quality, even if city started from an arguably stronger base.

The other think I don't think gets said enough is how poor utd are at selling players - utd wanted rojo,Smalling, darmian, blind (Jose wanted martial out). They only managed 1 out which is poor from the board

Yep if they had shifted more of their many recent poor or mediocre buys out then they probably would have given Jose more this summer but United have spent the most net since Fergie left with poor results to show for it.

It's a very big squad that needs trimmed

Hazard seen in Madrid to sign pre deadline.

I can’t decide whether there is a sizeable minority here who are either trolls or just hopelessly guillable. All the papers have Aguero starting apart from one so we’ll focus on that one that’s different even though journalists are playing a guessing game like everybody else except City staff.

One paper with unsubstantiated source(s) for the article and which suggested, at worst 'inferred', Aguero may get dropped. Criminally the worst thing is in the paper's 'squad sheet'/match preview (predicted team line up) for the game Jesus replaced Aguero. Never trusting this scaremongering journalist again.

Sane, Mahrez, Walker, Sterling all benched. Who attacks from the right. I'm guessing Bernado. But who is going to defendon the right. I think pep wants to play totally on the opposite half. He probably thinks Huddersfield won't attack.

Sterling not playing makes me feel a bit better about not capping Kun - I guess it could be the case that Aguero plays no matter what, but it feels like no-one is safe - and Salah (c) still to come
