Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

Benches are for the weak as long as your team doesn’t consist of rotation risks like Mendy, Robertson, Mkhi, Bsilva, Aguero

      🙂

A lot of those players will have 1 point cameos if/when they are rotated anyway.

    Quick one, more out of interest than for my current team;

    A. Mane & Hazard

    B. Salah & Pedro

The first would mean rotating captains amongst Kun, Auba, Hazard and Mane.

    A) Ederson + PVA + Neves
    B) Ederson + Pereira + Fraser
    C) Ederson + 4.0 Def + Pedro
    C) Hennessey + Pereira + Pedro

    Very much appreciate any opinions.

Alonso wasn’t bad defensively. Willian didn’t track back and Alonso was left in some 1 vs 2 situations which is why he looked bad. He was pretty important going forward so I think he’ll keep his spot.

Salah has had 4 big chances and 6 attempted assists.

Mane has had 2 big chances and 5 attempted assists.

Mane was also lucky to get that goal at the end last week while salah could have possibly got more

    A) Kepa - great fixtures but Chelsea defence looked leaky vs Arsenal

DISCLAIMER: Not attempting to gloat, but my first two weeks scores were 95 & 96. With so many community members inquiring about whether to Wildcard or not, who to add/who to drop etc. I'd like to hear from some of you who have had meteoric starts and what you're doing to maintain your momentum. Beyond sitting tight on the players I have luckily chosen thus far, what are good things to keep in mind to sustain success?

    Ederson (Steklenberg)
    TAA, Mendy, PVA (Peltier, Wan-Bissaka)
    Mané, Salah, Mkhitaryan, Richarlison (Neves)
    Aguero, Arnie, Zaha

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Yeah I have no desire to make any changes at this point. I guess it's some reverse psychology to see so many blowing up their teams and wanting to think I should be doing more than just relaxing and letting my players play. I have irrational fear of missing out on using a Wildcard with so many others doing so but then I have to remember a lot of them are doing so to bring in players I've had from the start. Maybe I just need to step away haha.

Your team is in very good shape now tbh. You have Mkhi and Mane together which is huge

I don't know how I can be any more clear. Eriksen had something like 5ish assist last year of his 11 from set pieces. If he only took 1 of 5 corners and didn't take that free kick and may be off most set piece when Trippier plays + he plays deeper than similarly priced players (Mane/Alli). The likely hood of him returning those same points are lower.

History doesn't really work with Fraser as circumstances have changed. As far as I know he wasn't on set pieces last season, not 100% on that though and he was in and out of the team. I'd expect him to improve on his 5 goals and 3 assists this season. Both him and his manager have either alluded to or spoken directly about him becoming more of a key part of their attacking armory this season.

0.5 cheaper than Fraser and also had good pre season form too. One to consider for 5th mid for WCs perhaps

I've mini-wildcarded and ended up with this:

    Foster

    Mendy, VVD, Alonso

    Salah(c), Mané, Mkhy, Richarlison, Kanté

    Aguero, King

    Fabs, Tomkins, AWB, Quaner

Hate taking points hits but felt I needed to be proactive with the likes of Jota and Bailly in the team.

Is there anyone I'm missing for future weeks?

    Which 2 in ....
    Richalison, Pedro and Mkhitaryan?

      Tough.

Rich' is nailed and in a rich vein of form.

Mkhy looks central to what Arsenal do and they have amazing fixtures, starting with a terrible West Ham side.

Pedro could be gold but there's an element of uncertainty in the short term.

For that reason I'd go with the top 2 but Pedro is still a good pick

Rich is 100% nailed so really that speaks for itself, the other 2 could be rotated any week but honestly I don’t mind this is a short term plan, will wildcard if things go wrong

Anything less than 4 at the back is a waste with that lineup. Who are your mids and forwards? I think 4 is enough, and I prefer Mane over VVD (assuming you keep Robbo, which you should).

Robertson - Mendy - (Peltier, Wan, Bednarek)
Salah (C), Mane, B.Silva (Kenedy, Hudson)
    Ings - Aguero - Aubameyang.

    C)Brooks
    D) Wildcard

6,151 two seasons ago. Definitely got the balance wrong, took lots of unnecessary hits and didn't see the points. 109.2 was way above the average and not needed. Last season was a much better balance. The slower market meant you had to get the good players early and hold them, rather than juggling risers/fallers.

      • 17 Years

they seem slow to me. a few seasons back it changed.

there are far more fallers than the risers to the idea now is about preserving rather than building team value, and picking up fallen angels bargain along the way (e.g. leno, kdb, whichever Chelsea defender takes Luiz place eventually...)

some players like mane & mendy will never look back unless they get injured though

Any advice for an idiot who thought Sanchez was a good idea?
    A. Transfer out for a less expensive non Man City/Liverpool option (i.e. Mkhi, Ali etc)
    B. Take -4 hit and drop either King or Doherty to make cash for Hazard.
    C. Hold, hope he plays and if he doesn't have Neves come in as emergency sub and then make two free changes next week.
