Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

        what does Mendy and Robertson have to do with Alonso?
        The presumption is that not many will have all three, and Mendy and Robertson may well match or outscore Alonso anyway, and thinking about which ones have started the season best, or been lucky, or are most likely to continue their form, and is there better value in defence + mid range priced midfielders, in other words a totally different team structure to what is the norm .... etc ... etc

        Yeah, there was quite a lot implied...;-)

          My only concern is clean sheets with Chelsea and the premium you have to pay for Alonso. I have all 3 though as 6.5 alonso price is good value compared to a mid.

    Hey Torres.
    Is it strange to have so many drops this year or is it because the transfers are being shared out to less players?
    Obviously, the rules for drops must be different to risers.
    I wonder if it is a tactic by the powers that be to create a method to get us to visit the site more often, thus, commission on data and advertising increases.
    A drop has more impact than a rise, being double the value, but most drops are low owned.
    Can you spread some light on the matter? Cheers and hope my post makes some sense.

            FPL Stats seem to have pretty well cracked the current algorithm. De Bruyne's flag seems to be behaving as expected so far. Of course FPL Towers will make tweaks to the formula every season, but if they were a ploy to drive you'd think their servers would be less crashy 😉

              I appreciate they may not know WC users during the week and yes, they seem to have it right. I see FF fix tend to exaggerate.
              I don't understand the crash issues but I don't think it will stop the data profit opportunities.

      A point every 10 minutes last year for Salah and a point every 15 minutes for Mane over 2 seasons.
      Penalties will not cover the difference but the trend for improvement with Mane is probably higher than Salah

      I've seen Bilva splitting opinion here. I did that move, personally. Now David Silva is back, and he took that central position the Bilva had been doing well in. So at best, he's going to share that position now. He did move back into the center when Dilva was subbed.

      The worry is that when Dilva starts then Bilva has obvious competition for the wide place in Sterling/Mahrez. That was enough for me to see the rotation looming, and to take a punt on Mkhi and Arsenal's good run of fixtures.

            The one you've posted isn't in the right format so it doesn't work on the current site. FPL will have changed they way they link to team pages so maybe 16/17 season links are dead, and 17/18 are just the wrong team.

    Pre-season I really wanted to start with Alonso, just that i couldn't come up with a balanced team as I wasn't sure which mid and forward will be of better value. Now that it is slightly clearer I can bring in Alonso by dropping the bad apples.

      Agreed and same, although I never really considered Alonso until now and then it’s a matter of move quickly.

      Highest scoring def for past two seasons and already top of the pile.

      Thinking Alonso - Mendy - Robertson will be a set & forget for a few weeks with Tomkins & AWB on the bench ready to step up if required.

      Tomkins will also play some weeks in a 4-4/3-3/2

        If he doesnt move to Atletico or Real, he could be a season keeper. Generally I wouldn't invest heavily at the back but lack of form in expensive forwards makes this the right move.

      Good team and some tasty fixtures for this group at the weekend! IMO ings could switch with Wilson/Fraser, but they are bang in form. At least if Bilva is rotated you have good sub option to come in

      -8 seems a bit mad mate as Mahrez could easily start and haul this weekend. In saying that I would do it for a -4 so if you're willing to take the extra hit, could easily pay off over time with CHE & ARS fixtures (the are superb on paper!).

          Making me a little WC itchy, but I don't like using the WC primarily for peripheral team slots. Eriksen and Mahrez are potentially on the chopping block this wk but I'm stubbornly holding for now. The thought of Peltier > Alonso is just soooo enticing

            I also had Eriksen plus Sanchez and a few others that I wanted rid of. Glad I hit the WC personally as I really like my team now and my TV has shot up to 101.2

      Mane is in form and higher ownership, but I'd be tempted to go for hazard. Good fixtures when compared with Liverpools over next 5-6 gameweeks and just think he'll score more, also on pens - definitely two better options than Sanchez with man utd in flux at the moment
