Fantasy Premier League managers are encouraged to factor the Gameweek 3 set piece match-ups in their transfer plans in the next few days.

In the second of a new series of Members articles we assess once again where set play situations can be exploited.

Where this differs from the Set Pieces tab is that we have added extra detail on how many of each set piece has been taken so far, which players have had the most attempts from set-plays in terms of goal efforts, as well as how like teams are to receive or give away free kicks or penalties.

That way, by comparing each team’s overall set piece data to find any mismatches, individuals expected to benefit from these situations will become clearer.

We ran similar articles during the World Cup and found them to helpful to Fantasy managers, hence why we have decided to bring them to FPL.

Obviously we only have two rounds of data so far so it may difficult to find too many over-arching trends right now, but we’ll be building on this template every week for Members to use when making their transfers or deciding on team selection.

Any differences between the takers here and on the set-pieces tab are purely because that individual is not available in Gameweek 3.

A friendly reminder that Dunk is injured and Balogun will be making his second PL appearance and first ever PL start.

I have a talent for posting the last comment on a page..

Defense is Mendy, Robbo, AWB, Pelt

    Bailly >

    A) Luiz
    B) PvA
    C) Bellerin
    D) TAA +0.5m
    E) Keep and roll the transfer

First season back, why do people like him so much? People picking Palace assets like Zaha and PvA based on their strong end to the season neglect to notice their ridiculous kind run-in (playing 3 relegated teams out of 4).

it's due to the great fixtures coming up & ya he did finish strong last year. Sakho/Tomkins are a solid unit at CB & I think he's selfish enough to get a few goals & def good enough to get decent ball in the box.

B looks obvious. But no price change pressure for both Bailly & PvA, I might do E.

morning lads/ladies: was all set on my pickford/coleman double up but coming around to breaking it up. looking at possibly replacing Coleman & was thinking of picking between the following:

A: Bellerin - good fixtures on the way & bombs forward... but it's Ars def...
B: Luiz - good fixtures but fear he'll be "rotated"
C: Pereira - seems to be playing well, okfixtures & can pocket .5
    D: Keep Coleman
E: *go cheap & switch to 4 atb & use funds in midfield

*other defenders: Mendy, Walker, Robertson, PvA. Currently playing 523 but chould switch to 433

Crazy to put that much in defense. Dump Coleman for Bennett and use the money up top.

usually I wouldn't have put that much at the back but it's worked (imo so far).
Attack is Salah, Mane, Aguero, Arnie & Zaha. 1.5 would be used to upgrade Neves to 6.5 or one of my 4.5s to 6... dunno if they'll be better than a 5.5 defender tbh

It's not that they won't be worth more, it's that combined they will be.

I'd rather a 6.5 mid and 4.5 def than a 5.5m x2. FPL is built in such a way that you're encouraged to build in the structure they recommmend.

find one proper 4,5 defender as your 5th if you want playing 5 at the back (Cook,Smith maybe Cedric or Duffy) or just E. Go cheap and use fund in midfield.

I think I’d get Bellerin if there’s nothing else to use your transfers on. He’s had a price drop, was 6.5m and got 170 odd points a few seasons ago.

He should have scored easily...everyone saying how Chelsea was such a hard fixture, but in reality he had plenty of big chances and simply choked them. You’d expect him to put those away at 11.0 million.

He could and even should have 3 goals against Chelsea. Have you seen (excl. Aguero) an attacker with more clear cut chances in those 2 fixtures? I doubt. He missed, but he is still 25-30 goals scorer per season.

He should be putting those away. The chances were there, regardless of who he was playing and he didn’t score. Hes looking very out of form. I’m sure he’ll get going eventually though. Just disappointing to see such horrible missed chances. Aguero buries those easily.

Aguero had all the time to put a one on one away against Cech too and didn’t. So he doesn’t always “bury” them easily either. It happens.

Whole team are lacking in confidence, making them all look poor. When they string a few passes together they started looking a bit better. Could have easily scored a hat trick, missed three guilt edged opportunities. Keeping him for now.

Cant see him getting benched after peps comments

"Since I've been here, I've never seen him like this," he told Sky Sports. "The spirit since he came back from the holidays after the World Cup... he is in incredible condition

With the ball and without the ball, he is sharp and intelligent and, of course, his talent to score goals is always there.

"The pass was so good, but the finishing is outstanding.

"I thought to take him off before the hat-trick, but it was perfect. He scored a goal, he got a standing ovation and he can take energy into the next games."

          Exactly, thanks for sharing this.

I panicked and took the armband off him last week. Not falling for that BS again.

And with KDB out, Kun is potentially the most influential player on the pitch for City, and the back of a hatty, can't see Pep benching him.

Football doesn't really work like that. And Wolves have some players that will be keen to prove they can compete with the best still - Moutinho etc. I doubt they'll get hammered as bad as HUD. And they're at home. Never underestimate home field advantage.

Do you realise playing away to a minnow team that wants to come out and attack could result in loads of goals?

They might not get hammered 6-1 but some sort of battering is still on the cards.

      1. Wolves are at home and are actually a decent team, the score against didnt tell the whole story.
      2. Man city also share their goals around big time, even more so than Liverpool.
      3. Kun played really well, but he got that assist out of nothing and a lucky keeper mistake goal. If he had only scored a brace (13 points) would people really be jizzing over him that much?
      4. Liverpool beat brighton 4-0 and 5-1 last year. Dunk is missing and will affect the CB partnership massively. Man City vs Wolves last year was 0-0 (Albeit a cup game)
      5. Aguero could always be benched.

brighton will put 10 men behind the ball.

Lol city will have 70% possession. Wolves will be camped in their own half most the game too.

The points was shared between those 3 last season too and that worked out well for Salah!
I went Salah last GW and turned out Aguero at home was the better pick so sticking to Salah this week instead of chasing more Aguero pts and if he gets rotated at some point it will be away from home!

The manager himself has confirmed that Hazard might not be in frame to start the games just yet so I don't think one should consider him anyway.

Just Alonso for me as things stand. Pedro or Kante over Willian as I feel it's gonna be Willian who will drop out once Hazard comes into contention for a starting spot which is gonna happen sooner rather than later.

    My current team Lineup:
    Foster
    Robertson Tarkowski Mendy
    Richarlison Salah Eriksen Mikhi
    Aguero Zaha King
Bench: Fabianski Neves Daniels Wan B

Got 2 Ft so I'm thinking of doing the following:
    A)
    Eriksen - > B. Silva
    Tarkowski - > Alonso
    Or B)
    Eriksen - > Mane
King - > Wilson or Ings

True, but for A I'd play 3-4-3 with a mid bench fodder and B I'd play 3-5-2 with a forward bench fodder.

    2. MTPockets

I think B, but that's mostly just due to not wanting to 'waste' another city spot on defence. Could prove totally wrong.

Check again.. Bilva’s average position v Huddersfield was higher than Mendy and Jesus and 2nd only to Kun. That was playing wing back. When Pep reverts to his favoured formation with 1 striker he will be immense

I think Morata will become essential at some point this season. Has looked good in the first two games (general play, not FPL wise), and Chelsea are scoring well.. combine that with a 9m pricetag, and I think it's a matter of time

If your team contains Alonso, Robertson, Mendy, salah, mane, aguero, richarlison and mkhitaryan, everyone will say good team...

If it doesn't, they'll tell you to put those players in.

    Wildcard Team. Activated & Confirmed.

    Fabri / Hennessey
    Mendy / TAA / Cook / WB / Peltier
    Mane / Hazard / Mkhi / Rich / Kante
    Aguero / Kane / Ings

Going against the general consensus and pumping Kane, think he has goals in him regardless of fitness and fixtures.

Expecting No Salah to bite me against Brighton but after that for the next 4 not that concerned. If it proves to me a huge fail I can tinker to get him in. Something along the lines of: Kane, Hazard, Mkhi ~ Auba, Salah, Fraser

    Thoughts appreciated!

Sorry to re-post. Is it worth to pay 1.0m more for Ederson (5.5m) over the 4.5m like Foster / Fabianski / Hennessey / Ryan ?

The plan is to go with 1 playing GK and 4.0m. Maximize budget on outfield players and get rid GK decision.

    >> With Ederson, it would be easy set and forget.
    >> With 4.5m, it will require FT to switch just once before the 2nd Wildcard to get the best fixtures.

This 1.0m is quite significant :
    >> 4.0 vs 5.0 DF
    >> 4.5 vs 5.5 MF
    >> 4.5 vs 5.5 FW

    1. Carlton_Goal
      • 10 Years

If you had Hennessey you could set and forget until after GW 9 perhaps? Could be worth it as the difference between Ings and Kamara for example is bigger than the difference between Ederson and Hennessey over the next 6 weeks

    2. Podge
      • 15 Years
      7 years, 11 months ago

5.5 and 4.0 is still too much budget, get rotating 4.5s. If you have ederson and Mendy you can only have 1 more outfield player, probably Kun so no bilva/Sterling/Mahrez if they show decent form.

Playing around with my wildcard atm and could potentially have this team:

    Hennessey
    Robertson - Mendy - Alonso
    Salah - Mane - Mkhi - Pedro - Richarlison
    Aguero - Ings

    Hamer - Jimenez - WB - Bennet

Crazy midfield but the goalkeepers/forwards/bench is quite weak though. Would leave 0.1ITB, worth a risk or not flexible enough?

Yeah not sure I'm brave enough for this team, prefer a slightly more balanced one but it's interesting what you can do with the money right now. Wan-Bissaka and Jimenez could rotate with Ings too

Probably could if you didn't have too many big hitting defenders. So many mid priced midfielders that are good value. For example I'm on my WC and could do:
      Hennessey - Hamer
      Mendy - Robertson - Shaw - WB - Bennet
      Salah - Mkhi - Pedro - Richarlison - Fraser
      Aguero - Aubameyang - Ings

That's fairly balanced, you just have to make sacrifices
