Fantasy Premier League managers have been presented with a much more clear-cut captaincy discussion this week, but there’s still plenty to analyse before the Gameweek 3 deadline.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is the stand-out candidate with Liverpool hosting Brighton and Hove Albion, while Sergio Aguero (£11.0m) is his main competitor.

However, there are, as ever some interesting differential candidates worth looking at.

We’ve gone over the results of our most recent poll and the underlying data to help you pick the best one once again.

THE CAPTAIN POLL

It is Salah who runs away with our Captain Poll for the second time this season. As of Saturday morining around 16,000 Fantasy managers had cast their vote to give the Egyptian a 48 percent share.

However, even though a home fixture against Brighton is considered just as appealing as the Gameweek 1 hosting of West Ham, Salah should fall well short of the majority he enjoyed for the first weekend of the season.

49.74 percentage points separated him and Gameweek 1 runner-up Aguero two weeks ago. This time around the gap is much smaller, the Manchester City man’s 22 percent backing trimming Salah’s lead to just 26 percent.

There are two main factors in why that change has occurred. The first is Aguero himself, who has emerged as a much stronger candidate than was initially expected following his Gameweek 2 hat-trick against Huddersfield. No player in the league has had as many shots on goal as Aguero and this week he travels to face a Wolves defence that has already been breached four times. The only thing that tempers Aguero’s appeal will be rotation once again. While he has now started the last 15 home matches that he was fit and available for, on the road in 2017/18 Gabriel Jesus (£10.5m) featured from the beginning more times than him, 12 starts to eight.

The second factor has been the form of Sadio Mané (£9.8m), who has outscored Salah in both Gameweeks so far and has matched him for shots in the box (six) and accurate ones too (four). So it’s no surprise to see the Senegalese international in the running for a third-place finish in the poll this week, with eight percent of the votes.

Expected to run Mané close for third place is Arsenal’s main man Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0m). He is also around the eight percent mark ahead of an appealing fixture, this week at home to West Ham, even after blanking in the first two outings of 2018/19. Those backing Aubameyang may well be members of the Salah-less 45 percent who are worried about Aguero’s place in the Man City side.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.2m) completes the poll’s current top five after continuing his fine start to the season against Huddersfield. The Manchester City defender has four assists in his first two matches and has touched the ball in opposing final thirds more often than anyone else in his classification.

Really think I'm going to Triple Captain Mo tomorrow. TC is such an unpredictable chip and o want to continue the momentum of my season. Think he's a safe a bet as any for a goal and against Brighton without Dunk that game surely has at least 3 or 4 goals for the reds!

    Crazy talk?

Not crazy, no, but it just feels safer to use it in DGW’s. If you fancy it, go for it, I agree with all the points you made

If Liverpool get knocked out of the FA cup before the 1/4 final, Salah will have a DGW of Watford(H) and Huddersfield(H)!

could be aspired shout as he is due a brace.
positive note is even though he has not been scoring the goals he has been acculating points so chances are even if you chose wrong week and he doesn't score he should still get assist points( defenders are weary so foul him meaning set pieces).
I have done on Kane on a DGW and he played one and he got 2 points :/ Triple captain for 6 points is never pretty 😛

    Shoot me down, please 😉

    Both transfers used.

    Hamer
    Mendy / Robbo / Daniels
    Bilva / Salah (C) / Mané / Mkhi
    Kun / Zaha / Wilson

    Patricio / Hudson-Odoi / Wan-B / Peltier

Not happy about Hudson, Peltier, my goalie pair (I am patient, but I am worried about Hamer game time), and partly my Bournemouth duo.

I’ve decided on not getting Richarlison and Pedro. Will bring in Arnie for Zaha when fixtures favor. Maybe Willian for Bilva and then Ederson in goal some time (if there are enough funds).

    Thoughts?

Anyone who's seen both games and can explain to me how on earth Bilva had a bigger threat carrying than Mkhi last gameweek?
I read the text comments and watched the highlights and Mkhi had a 100% chance missed + his goal and Bilva seemed no where near goal in this 352 with a left food on the right side lying deep.

Could smn explain? Looking to keep Silva. Threat stats come together with touches in the final third/box and shots, no?

I honestly thought that he wasn't involved much in attack until his goal in the first game, and he was hugging touchline, not really involved in any meaningful attack against Huddersfield until that chance right at the end.

I have my finger over the confirm button for B.Silva to Mkhi but concerned about the lack of bench.

Cheers no hits for it either. But I’d like Maddison, Auba abd Alonso as well but can’t git them in.

        Also wary of Hazard.

Yeah, I’m no hits although I did have Mendy on the bench in the Arsenal game and Laca on the pitch so I don’t feel great. Aguero in for Laca this week and Rashford (placeholder for gw1) out for Ings to give me the cash.

20 mins and a goal min.

          Assume your captaining Salah? Mane?

He was subbed on only 3 times last season, when City needed a goal.

That's what I'm thinking. Mane and Robbo as my Liverpool cover. Aguero captain in GW4, 5 and 7, Mane captain vs former club in GW6. Also allows for a handy Stephens > Mkhi upgrade. Wildcard Gameweek 9 to get Salah back in when fixtures improve again.

Do you have lots in the bank in case Salah hauls while he’s out of your lineup and his price goes through the roof?

To make way for Diop, Lucas, Ozil, Firminho...

    A) Mkhi, Alonso, Morata, Walcott
    B) Hazard, Mitro, Alonso, Fraser
    C) Aubam, Alonso, Iwobi, Barkley

Looks like Willian has been starting on the left and Pedro on the right first few games under Sarri. Does this make Willian more likely to make way for Hazard?

Is it too much of a risk in bringing in Alonso with both Madrid teams having him on their radar as potential signing before end of August?

    Thoughts please

    De Gea
    Alonso Mendy Robertson Shaw
    Mane Salah Pedro Bilva Fraser
    Aguero

0.1 ITB no FT. Just thinking about maybe taking De Gea and Shaw out? Also thinking about Bilva for Mkhi? Hold or pull the trigger?

    Thanks 🙂

10.2 mil to spend on a defender and mid. How would you spend it?
    a) Tomkins + Fraser
    b) Pereira + Neves
    c) Bellerin + 4.5

Can I just send a message to all my fellow lunatics that don’t own Salah.

We will be taking a haul on the chin this weekend, don’t lose your heads. Do not revert back to the normal side and panick Salah back in.

    Long term we’ve got this.

    He who dares wins.

He who is an idiot also loses. Accepting that you're going to miss a haul but claiming it's "all part of the plan" is the most hilarious thing I've ever heard of

        Method in the madness bro.

        Salah + Mkhitaryan
        Mane + Hazard

If you’ve had either combination from the beginning ... this is for arguments sake ... they’re the same price. I’d take Mane and Hazard to outscore Salah and Mkhi over a season.

Put price combinations together, if you can spread the Extra coin you get from not owning Salah and you feel it’s genuinley a better team from an FPL points view, why not?

That being said, Salah is home to the worst travelling side near enough ever. He will Brace. Hence the above comment.

People panick on FPL and chase last weeks points.

Hazard is about 0.5m overpriced and Mkhi is 1m underpriced.

Happy to continue without Salah.. Mane has outscored him so far for 3.5 million less.

Of course there will be weeks that Salah does better but at the moment Mane looks the much better option!

It’s a matter of time before you miss another 29 (58) point hail. He could’ve scored 2-3 last week in a tough game against Palace.

Now he has Brighton at home.

He's never going to be a FPL option ever again so it's not a big deal. Ageing player and now has stiff competition.

How much does UCL affects team rotation in Premiership? What clubs prefer more if they have tough fixture in UCL following important fixture in Premiership?

This is my first fpl season

It appears that UCL has liitle impact on team rotation. The only worry to be had is your star player getting injured in a champions league match.

Stats show teams make an average of 2.3 changes to their starting line-ups between games with a European fixture in the middle. In most cases the players rested are largely peripheral ones and not the star players anyways.
