Our panel of Fantasy Premier League managers are back to answer more questions, this time ahead of Gameweek 4.

We may have one Gameweek 3 match left to play, with Manchester United hosting Tottenham Hotspur in Monday Night Football, but there are still plenty of talking points.

That includes who managers should replace the suspended Richarlison (£6.7m) with, the dilemma of the Manchester City midfield and whether or not we should be looking to differentials yet.

Once again, we had an overwhelming response to our request for questions. Unfortunately, we can only answer a handful each week but keep your queries coming in for the rest of the season.

Here’s a reminder of who is on the panel for your Gameweek 4 Question Time:

Chief #FPL Manager – This man has finished inside the top one percent six times in his career as a Fantasy manager and is one of the biggest influencers in the FPL Twitter-sphere.

Ben McNair – Australian FPL manager Ben has four finishes inside the top 5,000 so far and is an expert in all things metrics-related.

Az – Finished in the top 1,000 last season and is a regular on the ScoutCast and Scout Picks article.

QUESTION ONE – CHIEF

Should I sell Richarlison for the two Gameweeks he’s suspended or bench him? And if I sell him, which players are the best replacement options?

Chief: “I think it makes sense to sell Richarlison before Gameweek 4, rather than benching him. His straight red card on Saturday means that he’s due to receive a three-game ban, which means he won’t be available for Premier League selection until 23rd September.

“I have no doubt that his price will drop more than once over the next fortnight as FPL managers look to fill a key attacking void in their teams.

“In terms of a replacement, two names spring to mind.

Roberto Pereyra is viable as he has scored three goals in three matches but he has some tricky upcoming matches.

“With that said, the fixture run seems more generous for Theo Walcott and he’s also racked up three attacking Fantasy returns, despite having created fewer chances and having fewer shots on goal than the Watford man since Gameweek 1.”

QUESTION TWO – BEN MCNAIR

Is it worth getting in players who have really low ownership to try and make up lost points over first three weeks? What do you look for with these poorly owned players? Do you take risk before form and favourable fixtures?

Ben: “Ignore ownership. Ignore overall ownership. Ignore ownership in your forum/social media bubble. Whatever deficit you could be facing after three Gameweeks is easily recoverable over the remaining 35. Get the players you think will score the most points. Other managers will make mistakes. The ‘template’ will change over time. Play like you’re in front.

“When considering the rank impact of a ‘differential’ relative to a ‘template player’ with slightly higher expected points, think of a bell curve with an average just to the left of zero. Don’t let your eyes be lit up by the shiny area under the curve to the right of zero, which represents a lower-than-50% chance of a ranking boost, without sober recognition of the larger area to the left of zero, which represents a greater-than-50% chance of a ranking tumble. This also makes for great chat at dinner parties.

“Differentials can be fun, but, if you’re interested in results alone, I don’t think there’s much of a case for getting them until after Gameweek 30. Make your peace with having highly-owned heavy hitters, because if you don’t have the leader of the captain poll in most weeks, you’re in for a train wreck of a season.”

QUESTION THREE – AZ

Last year it was worth having a Man City midfielder even if they missed the odd game. Given Guardiola’s diversity of choice, is it best, in fact, to avoid completely and go for two at the back with Aguero up-front?

Az: “For the first part of this question, I really don’t think we have the wealth of options that it would seem from the City midfield.

“Mahrez and Sane are both premium priced players who do not currently have the backing of Pep, so are automatically out, as while we could potentially handle a premium priced City player who misses the odd game, nothing from the start of the season suggests that these two will be first XIers anytime soon.

“That leaves Sterling and the two Silvas as our main considerations.

“Sterling seems likely to play most games, but his price tag puts me off hugely and, while I think he has a part to play in our seasons, other premium-priced options (Salah, Hazard, Mané, Aguero) are more appealing.

“Bernardo Silva seems to be a victim of his own versatility, we never quite know where he is going to play but for 7.6, I think you can make a case for including him, just don’t expect to see him set the world alight.

“I think Peps favourite, David Silva, seems a fantastic option though, and for 8.5 I think he could be a set and forget in your midfield as he seems likely to play most games and showed against Huddersfield that he can run the show and pull all the strings in De Bruynes absence.

“I think you can also make a case for considering Gündogan at 5.5. He may not be a guaranteed starter but when he does play, does take set pieces and does have a good eye for goal. For the price, he may be worth the risk.

“I am not personally a fan of doubling up at the back with City, 5.5 just seems too much to spend on a goalkeeper, especially when you consider how well the premium priced defenders are scoring.

“Ederson has barely any chance of getting any bonus, makes few saves and I do wonder about City’s clean sheet potential with their chopping and changing of the backline.

“A cheap goalkeeper and a premium defender (such as Alonso) wins out over Ederson and a sub £6.0m defender for me.

“An expensive keeper also leaves you quite inflexible, and I feel like FPL is in total flux at the moment, so being able to change with the times is so important and every million is so valuable.”

I don't have any pressing issues in my team other than Richarlison. With him out, I have to play 2 of WB, Daniels, Kamara & Stephens for the next 2 GWs. Do you reckon it's worth a couple transfers to get some coverage in? If so, I'm thinking Walcott or a punt on Gundogan.

    Thoughts?

Kamara and Stevens are worthless. I dont trust Everton, they havent created that much and Walcott hasnt done much (even though scoring twice). Depends on your team and bank status as well. Daniels wont produce much against Chelsea, albeit he could, Stevens and Kamara will get you 2 tops. There are options for 6.7 in midfield.

Theo is already up 0.1 - it’s not like you miss the train but for future references - make up your mind quickly - cash in on Richarlison and swap for rising midfielder (if having faith in him)...would try my luck with Mkhitaryan if you don’t rate Theo...but you have to do something, Richarlison will drop 0.2 I guess

I played Zaha against Foster last week which meant most likely at least one of them was going to get points... sometimes playing strikers against defenders works out

Ings and Fraser/Tomkins to start I think

Yeh Walcott has a great next fixtures in particular where as away Arsenal may struggle. Pedro has great fixtures but more rotation threat. Tough to pick two.

Neither Arsenal or Everton can defend, think Arsenal are in the bottom 3 for chances conceded. Everton will get a goal in vs them.

Maddison passes the eye test and takes set pieces, but against Liverpool with no Vardy he`s unlikely to produce much. Also doesnt play the full 90.

      I think
Walcott has great fixtures but I’m not keen on much else and as others have said is streaky.
Pedro looked good first games then not so much and now considered a threat for rotation.
Mkhitaryan has looked quite good but Cardiff and Newcastle away is the sort of game they struggle.
B.Silva in a City side but from watching highlights he has looked on the edge of the game and the rotation threat is massive.

Nah, who are they going to play? Also, the reason he`s playing is Sarri wants his cb`s to move up the pitch with the ball. For all his other flaws, this is one of Luiz`s strengths, and probably why he`s edging Christensen and Cahill.

Also, Richarlison's first game back in Arsenal away, so it's actually GWK7 vs Fulham that he appeals again but then the game after is away at Leicester. He's gone until GWK9 at earliest for me.

Theres no risk of price drop, there will definitively be one. Question is, do you think you want him back after the two gws? And do you think the extra free transfer is worth the point defecit you might exerience playing AWB instead of any mid in Richy`s price range?

Which one to transfer in for Richarlison?

    a) Walcott (HUD H, WHU H, ARS A, FUL H)
    or
    b) Pedro (BOU H, CAR H, WHU A, LIV H)

Both have 3/4 home fixtures. Walcott has slightly better form but I've no Chelsea attackers. Thanks

True, but hes managed 3 shots in 3 games - not very impressive at all. Huddersfield kept a clean sheet last time out and although i expect Everton to win, i cant see them putting 3 or 4 in the net. Fixtures are swell, but not everything.

As a Liverpool fan i think Salah has looked off it a bit. That said, hes way above anybody else in midfield for every useful stat. Once he comes into a bit of form, i think hes gonna bang them in. He didnt have the best of times against the very best sides last season, but with Mane playing as he is and with the addition of Keita, i think there will be more space for him. Even at £13m, i think hes essential. You will be sweating bullets for the majority of games where you dont own him.

Fraser is very unlikely to get anything away at Chelsea, so he's out for me. Maguire is good but outside of Alonso or Mendy, bench any defender vs Liverpool. That leaves Costa and Maddison.

I wouldnt say very unlikely. I think Bournemouth will get something that game, and Chelsea are far from impossible to score vs. Consider that the current Arsenal side could have scored like 7 or 8 against them. Bournemouth doesnt have the same quality players, but they are gelled together and have consistency.

          1. Pinturicchio10
            8 years, 21 days ago

Depends how you see the game going, agreed. I think Chelsea will batter Bournemouth myself, so Fraser out for me.

I think it will be like every other Chelsea game so far. They`ll own the ball, but Bournemouth will look to counter. Alonso is a woeful defensive wingback, and Luiz is as loose as cannons get. King/Wilson/Fraser can definitively cause some real problems for them. Unfortunately, as i own nobody in this game, i think it will be high scoring.

Took a -8 hit last night in a crazy bid to avoid Alonso's price rise, but now regretting decision....I think. Had already done Rich to Wally, then last night swapped out Shaw and Firmino for Alonso and Arnie for -8.

I'm now considering wildcarding to avoid the -8 but there's only 4 or 5 players I would change so not sure it's worth it. Currently sitting around 20k so in a good position to suck up a -8 but could be even better not to spend points.

    Current team after -8

    Hart / Begovic
    Mendy / Robertson / Alonso / AWB / Bednarek
    Salah / Pedro / Wally / Bilva / Cairney
    Aguero / Mitrovic / Arnie

If wildcarding would switch keepers to Hennessy and Patricio, switch Bednarek for Bennett (one is rising, the other falling), switch Arnie to Ings and upgrade Cairney to Ramsey to catch his fixtures. This gives me a strong front 8 if any get randomly dropped.

What do we think? WC or not?

Hazard not essential, nobody is really. He did look sharp in the first half, but Pedro is much cheaper and will have more shots. Only thing is his rotation risk, but as others have said, i think he could be the gem of the season. In Sarris teams most of the goals come from others than the striker, usually the two deployed just behind him.

Sometimes, maybe. At this moment in time, no. Very few players have been essential. When Salah scored every single game last year, he was essential. Aguero scored what, around 25 last season and wasnt essential. All depends how you would otherwise spend the money. As of right now, nobody is essential.

Probably the most frustrating FPL player I've ever owned.

Does nothing when you need him to, hauls completely unexpectedly (normally the week after you sell him).

Not captainable, hence too much for 10.5m
