The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 4 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) who faces an appealing home match-up against Newcastle, a side he is very fond of.

The Manchester City striker has scored 11 goals in his last five home meetings with the Magpies and has already netted a hat-trick in front of his own supporters this season.

With the champions set for the most attractive fixture of the week, options such as Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) will get consideration as well as David Silva (£8.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) if he can hold on to his place.

Also with an appealing match-up is Chelsea, who host the porous Bournemouth defence in Gameweek 4. The Cherries have only allowed two big chances so far in 2018/19, although that does include facing a goal shy Cardiff and they have still conceded three goals in as many matches.

Eden Hazard (£10.6m) is obviously the standout candidate with two assists and goal from just one start and two subsitute appearances in the first three Gameweeks of the season.

However, Pedro (£6.6m) is also an option for those unable to shoehorn the Belgian international into their sides.

As ever, Marcos Alonso (£6.7m) will form part of the conversation now that he has registered a minimum of 11 points in every match so far and has had more shots on goal than any other defender.

Of course Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has to still be in the conversation as he’s joint-top for shots amongst all players and has created more chances than anyone else.

    Townsend at 5.9?
    Welcome to my team 🙂

How is this looking? Mane is in the team instead of Salah atm in case he rises again.

    Alonso - Robertson - Mendy - WanB
    Salah-Haz-Mkhi-Walcott-Townsend
    Aguero

@joe, I feel like you've misinterpreted Hazard love for this Bournemouth fixture.

    Here is the article:
    https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/eden-hazard-backed-himself-to-score-against-bournemouth-35607614.html

    And this is the quote:
''You have teams that you know before the game that you can score, or that it's your team," said Hazard.

"I remember in France I always scored against the same teams, but if you want to be a top player, you have to score against every team.

"It was a good goal, I like to score against them. I scored two goals against them here last season."

It should be noted that the 2 games being referenced are away games.

Hazard has scored 1 goal (a penalty in Dec 2016 fwiw) in 3 games at the Bridge against Bournemouth.

In the reverse fixture, he has scored 4 goals in 3 games against the Cherries.

Make of this what you will but I feel the stats are being used for confirmation bias a little. However, Hazard has proven in past seasons to be a more explosive fantasy option in his Home games and under Sarri, who knows what will happen.

All in all, I feel there is no reason to look for a differential captain so early in the season and Aguerro ticks every box available heading into the weekend

I honestly don't think Pep will want to risk dropping more points after last weekend by dropping Aguerro. Why cause a scene like this when Aguerro didn't do anything wrong?

      3. Pep says

        7 years, 6 months ago

Yes. City have said they won't be taking action. Its a shisha for Christ sake, I don't get why some people are acting as if he's doing cocaine or something.

Kun has a 2 week break coming up, Pep has said he's playing the best football he's ever seen him play and after drawing last weekend, City will be motivated to score goals and Kun has quite the record against the Magpies. Considering TC myself. Leaves bench boost more open for the 2 double gameweeks and dgws are very overrated as is. Not decided yet but I'm 60/40 for playing TC

Not following the issue with the Shisha vid. I responded that yesterday too.
What's supposed to be the problem exactly? That he is a role model? An athlete?
Who cares. You think a puff on that vape is going to affect his ability one bit.
They just drew a game - theres no way he's dropping an in form player.
That and it's such nonsense. If Pep gives that more than a seconds thought i'll be surprised.

This. For all we know, lots of players may enjoy shisha on their days off. I don't personally enjoy it but I know people who enjoy doing it. It's just a placebo. Better to be chillin than getting taxis to events as far as Aguerro's concerned I reckon. Less chance of injury

For me, a player's previous record against a team should be the last thing you're looking at when deciding on captaincy. Different seasons, setups, managers, forms, etc.

      1. Pep says
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

Well I captained Hazard in the away fixture last season based on this article and he scored 11pts. I don't think it's the worst way to predict an outcome, if a world class player is so confident of scoring going into a game, you can probably afford to give them the benefit of the doubt

        1. VS10_
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 6 months ago

You're captaining Haz because he is a class player playing against a much worse team. Not based on what he has done against them years ago.

          1. Pep says
            • 10 Years
            7 years, 6 months ago

I wouldn't have captained him if I hadn't read the article though. Of course he is a class player but so is Kante and Fernandinho.

There isn't a direct correlation between being a class player and providing FPL returns.

Hazard has shown over the past 2 seasons he is an amazing player (think he has most MotM awards) but he often creates the goals from deep and isn't selfish in front of goal. His home form (from a fantasy perspective) in the past has always been better than his away form also.

So, honestly, I did captain him in that away fixture based on his history because being a class player usually isn't a good enough reason to captain a player.

            1. VS10_
              • 10 Years
              7 years, 6 months ago

You know what I mean by class in this context, you don't need to twist it to Kante's and Fernandinho's. 😆 What I'm saying is that a player's record against a certain team, imo, should only be a deciding factor when you're stuck on a 50-50 decision.

              1. Pep says
                • 10 Years
                7 years, 6 months ago

But last season in Hazard's case, it came down to home form and away form more so than just his class alone. He always plays brilliantly but in the away games he was more of a playmaker assisting the assistor

      2. F_Ivanovic
        • 10 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

I think it can be a small factor to consider when a decision is close (as is with Aguero/Hazard) but definitely shouldn't be the first thing to consider.

        This.

I don't see the relevance. It's just stats with little or no logic.

        1. Pep says
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 6 months ago

There is logic in the case of the away fixture. Scored twice, came out and stated he was confident he would score and he did score. He's obviously going to be feeling the same confidence next time he's plays away in this fixture.

He didn't come out and say before the home game he knew he was going to score however so he obviously didn't have that instinctive feeling against Bournemouth at the Bridge.

          1. Cok3y5murf
            • 9 Years
            7 years, 6 months ago

You're reading too much into it.

You're giving the example of him saying he knew he'd score AFTER he scored in the away game, but not saying he would score BEFORE the home game.

Anyone can come out and say after the game that they knew they'd score. That's hindsight, like me saying "I knew Boly would score, so I started him vs Man City last week". If he scored in a home game, he could just as well have said "I knew I'd score" too. Do you think he'd say "Oh I usually score away to Bournemouth, so I'm surprised I scored at home today"?

If he actually said before that away game that he'd score and it came true, it would actually indicate some confidence.

You're taking the word of a player who was interviewed after the game too seriously. He could've been half kidding for all you know.

I don't think Hazard will do aswell as expected. He has always been a player who's brilliant performances didn't really turn into fpl points. He is also very tightly watched by other teams so it is harder for him to score. Also he doesn't that killer instinct in my opinion, he is more of a creator. Maybe am I wrong but I would be interested to hear people's thoughts on him?

Just like Sarri said - one of the best players in the world - when he wants to play...there is a hidden message there for Hazard - Sarri wanted to make a point and get a message across...for us is basically a mine field - he can score 18, 12 and then 2, 3, 2, 6, 2 then 22, 2 etc...just like in previous seasons...

Thinking the same thing. Atm I'm keeping ahead of Aguero, which seems like madness but I used my FT to get Alonso, and think there's still plenty of potential for Auba to score big.

That said, if he blanks again and Aguero gets points I'll have to just cut my losses and accept I made a mistake and make the swap.

As a non Aguero owner im feeling the pressure.

Gonna have to toss a coin on Salah or Hazard and hope they keep up with Kun, or are only a few points off

find yourself a big sofa, Kun vs Newcastle is a bit like Suarez was vs Norwich. Hat trick incoming

I'd go Salah personally. Leicester haven't looked good, and Hazard not quite fully up to speed yet.

Hazard as a FPL option is a bit like Kane - overpriced (as for now obv).
They both will be great options but not yet imo.
Dont knee jerk making hits to get any if them atm. Wait and see.

He doesn't have the end product to be FPL gold.

Having said that, I can see Sarri turning him into a CF like he did with Mertens. Could lead to him being a better option.

Sanchez is different. He is completly under performing in a team that is all round completly under performing under a manager who is seemingly have some kinda breakdown at the moment.

Don't understand why you would wait and see with Hazard - they have 2 plum home fixtures coming up and then they're away to WH which is decent but then at home to Liverpool and their fixtures turn a bit.

Would you wait and see at the beginning of the season if Chelsea had those 2 fixtures or would you have him in to start?

Wally also has great fix and is cheaper.
Thats not my point and not enough to get a player. Form, VALUE, fixtures, eye test etc.

Form is temporary, class is permanent..

Besides, Hazard looks to be in fine form - he's scored points every week despite only getting 45 minutes across the first 2 GW's. I have both anyway, so didn't have to choose between the 2!

FPL is all about beating your ML rivals at the end of the day swooping for a player 2-3 weeks earlier than a rival is where ML's are won and lost.

Also those bad managers decisions (too maverick, too punty etc) esp at the beginning of the season make their rivals do good.
          It works both ways.

    Foster/Fab
    Alonso, Mendy, TAA, WanB, Bennet
    Mane, Mkhi, Hazard, Cairney, Walcott
    Kamara, Agüero, Kane

I know... then again if I do Zaha over Auba I have 4.0 to spend elsewhere. It’s a vicious cycle.

I just have the feeling if I transfer him out he’ll score a hat trick this week

      WC Team, thoughts?

      Hennessey (Foster)
      Alonso, TAA, Mendy (Wan-Bissaka, Bennett)
Salah, Mane, Neves, Lucas Moura, Mkhitaryan
      Aguero Mitrovic (Wilson)

Pretty satisfied, but not sure whether to replace Mkhi or Moura with Walcott?

Last game is the 1st of September, then give him a chance to rest and recover after consecutive tournaments. Based on absolutely nothing but my own guesses, I'd say he might feature as a sub vs Liverpool and possibly start vs Brighton? Might be tough to get his place back 😉

Man.. Arsenal are all over the place at the back. Cech is possibly the worst keeper to own in the FPL game.

Hazard has proven before he is the better option than Pedro. Maybe Sarri can get something out of Pedro that he's been lacking in past seasons but he will be rotated with Willian, will likely only play 60-70 mins and may be reduced to 20-30min cameos in some matches. You save 4m though so there's a solid argument for both. As a rule of thumb though, probably safest to go with the guy who is guaranteed to keep his place

Yeah I think I'll give him a miss but it seems a shame with those fixtures!

I'll size up who else I want to bring in.

Any big players I should definitely have in?

I'm thinking a core of Alonso, Mendy, Robertson, WB, Salah, Haz, Kun, Wally, Mkhi, Zaha

Wouldn't be delaying a WC, you are costing yourself price changes at the very least. If you are happy without Salah then possibly.
