The Captain Poll is now open for votes ahead of Gameweek 4 and you can watch our video on the best candidates for the armband below or on our YouTube channel.

The early favourite is Sergio Aguero (£11.2m) who faces an appealing home match-up against Newcastle, a side he is very fond of.

The Manchester City striker has scored 11 goals in his last five home meetings with the Magpies and has already netted a hat-trick in front of his own supporters this season.

With the champions set for the most attractive fixture of the week, options such as Benjamin Mendy (£6.3m) will get consideration as well as David Silva (£8.5m) and Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) if he can hold on to his place.

Also with an appealing match-up is Chelsea, who host the porous Bournemouth defence in Gameweek 4. The Cherries have only allowed two big chances so far in 2018/19, although that does include facing a goal shy Cardiff and they have still conceded three goals in as many matches.

Eden Hazard (£10.6m) is obviously the standout candidate with two assists and goal from just one start and two subsitute appearances in the first three Gameweeks of the season.

However, Pedro (£6.6m) is also an option for those unable to shoehorn the Belgian international into their sides.

As ever, Marcos Alonso (£6.7m) will form part of the conversation now that he has registered a minimum of 11 points in every match so far and has had more shots on goal than any other defender.

Of course Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) has to still be in the conversation as he’s joint-top for shots amongst all players and has created more chances than anyone else.

Do it if you want, I'd be a bit wary of playing my chips in a single gameweek. I think the fact that they were somewhat disappointing last year during the DGWs is not enough reason to not play them in a DGW again - most of the time they'll work out better.

Exactly, and the year before that. The best percentage play is during a DGW and that hasn't changed - the only change is that people are more emboldened to play it in a SGW because they remember the most recent occasion, which happened to be a relative failure.

      Not for me.

Newcastle were quite solid against Chelsea last week. Benitez plays such a defensive style of containment against all the big clubs. They were only broken down by a penalty and a deflection in the last 15 minutes.

I'd keep the TC for another day.

A little risky for me, Newcastle will park that bus nice and big. At the risk of being quite annoying Huddersfield was probably the best single Kun game option. That said, he looks sharp and is at least good for a goal or two.

This GW strangely lining up like the HUD game, main defenders are injured for Newcastle according to Rafa just as Zanka was for HUD in the GW against MCI. Not saying TC but C if nothing definite from Pep looks a solid gamble, as HUD was for many who gave him the armband, myself included. I did not drink from the Kool Aid tho, I did Salah (C) last GW.

      Walcott.
Nailed, fixtures, form. Huds at home and Everton playing fairly attacking football - 2 goals per game even down a man for a combined 70 minutes. Theo has a high involvement in their goals.

Pedro a good pick as well, but I just don't see him starting every match in coming GWs.

Saw an interesting stat. He's been involved in a goal every 135 minutes or so in the PL.

I've been burnt by him previously as well, but this opportunity is just too good to miss out on

          1. Pierce34
            • 10 Years

I've got Walcott as well (and my comment just above wasn't sarcastic, just to put my move into perspective!). My outlook is that I'm expecting disappointment and got him just for two games in order to get an easy price rise. If he does anything it's going to be a welcome surprise.

            1. Licious Lizard
              • 13 Years
              7 years, 6 months ago

That's fair. Honestly I would be disappointed if he failed to have any returns in 2 home games against 2 very porous defences.
              Time will tell I guess.

I hope you're right. Pereyra is the one I really want from that price range, but I couldn't justify bringing him in with those fixtures.

                  7 years, 6 months ago

Yeah Pereyra looks good, but those are 3/4 very tough fixtures. Especially as it's only a short term punt, I didn't go for him.
Had my eye on Sessegnon as well, but he's not nailed either.

Bournemouth also played a man down from the 61' minute, so 70 is more accurate I would say.

      • 7 Years

I think Pedro, everyone else will say Walcott.

Pedro is in a different strata in terms of underlying stats, and playing in a better side against opposition which don't just sit back (this weekend anyway). I also think he's just a better footballer, which always helps!

Walcott's advantage could be simply that he has longer on pitch.

      1. Mic
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 6 months ago

Exactly. If both start you wouldnt be surprised if Walcott blanked

        1. Licious Lizard
          • 13 Years
          7 years, 6 months ago

If Pedro was nailed, I would go for him. But best case he plays 60-70 mins every match

Bookies has Everton to score 2 goals at least and I think Walcott will be involved in most goals with Rich out.

          1. gergin
            • 10 Years
            7 years, 6 months ago

            Sigurdsson more likely than Walcot

            1. Licious Lizard
              • 13 Years

Siggy has been unlucky not to be in the goals, I agree. But I think he's more likely to get assists or a rare FK goal. Plus 1m more, which most people can't afford for the Rich replacement..

Fair enough - I'm just thinking that specifically Huddersfield might be a bit of a toughie for Walcott as they won't push high and leave space - which is how he got that goal at B'mouth.

Granted, the FK against Southampton was a nice finish so he can score in a different manner... I just think Pedro could do some damage vs B'mouth even in 70 mins given how open they are.

Obviously Walcott has West Ham after that, but that's 3 weeks away, so got to focus more on the imminent fixture IMO.

You could of course be right. Again, I also think Pedro could get some points if he starts.
My big worry would just be that Willian gets to start a game, as I really can't understand if he stayed to be benched every match. But yes, it will probably be an open game.
Huds could be trying to stay compact at the back, but I just don't rate them very highly tbh. Once Everton gets a goal, they will have to try and push back a more, which will be excellent for a playmaker lige Siggy to find those can-opening passes.

We'll see, who comes out on top after the next 2 weeks - it will be very interesting.

    Which move?
    (A) PvA to Alonso (play Wan-Bissaka [and Ings] to cover Richarlison)
    (B) Richarlison to Moura (bench Wan-Bissaka [or Ings])

Would prefer Rich > Wally, but A out of those.
Alonso will get the points back long term at least.
Moura has two difficult fixtures and is a huge risk after that with Lamela + Son back.

They do get tougher but they’re title contenders so should expect them to score in these tougher fixtures especially with how threatening there attack is

But Mane can cover to a large extent imo. Benefit being you get Kane over say Firmino. Or Alonso over a 4.0

I'm on a WC. Should I get a 5.0 playing 5th mid ( Like Neves or Kante) over a 4.5 mid (who will only get a max of 2 pts) if I have 4 good defenders, 4 good midfielders and 3 good strikers? The extra 0.5 might come in handy later if I want to bring in Kane

I’m personally going with a 4.5 mid consider this how often will you actually play them? If often then go for it but I’d rather have the extra funds unless someone priced 5M in the near future becomes essential

    3. Debauchy
      • 13 Years

You should get a 4.4 mid , or a 4.3 if becomes available
You would have him 3rd on bench every week

Some people playing WB every week may want 2, 4.0 defs. Best non playing is Stankovic due to his close to rising status.

    3. CL4PTRAP
      • 11 Years

FPL table sorts defenders based on total score by default, people look for a 4.0 due to budget, see he's top of the pop charts and they go for him. They also see he's played 1 out of 3 and think "he gets the next one". Not everyone spends time on these sites or twitter feeding information to us all. We know Zanka is back and playing again, they don't know as yet perhaps.
