Here’s hoping for a quieter Friday afternoon/Saturday morning than the one we experienced a fortnight ago.

Then, the momentum behind a widespread Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) captaincy was derailed by an article published in the Guardian suggesting Pep Guardiola was considering dropping his Argentinean striker for the visit of Huddersfield Town.

The considerable number of Fantasy Premier League managers who paid heed to the piece and moved the armband to another asset were “Jacksoned” when Aguero subsequently delivered a 20-point haul in City’s 6-1 win over the Terriers.

The reigning league champions play their second home league match of the season on Saturday evening, with Newcastle United the visitors to the Etihad, and the consensus in the Fantasy community seems to be that Aguero is the runaway favourite captaincy candidate for Gameweek 4.

There are several viable alternatives elsewhere, however, all of whom we’ll explore in the article below.

We begin by running through the Captain Poll on our site before analysing the Opta data and Rate My Team (RMT) numbers ahead of the forthcoming deadline on Saturday morning at 11:30 BST.

The Captain Poll

With 63.8% of the Fantasy Football Scout vote, Aguero is head and shoulders above any other armband option this week.

Aguero has 14 goals in 11 league appearances against the Magpies, eight of which were scored in the last two meetings between the sides at the Etihad.

The Argentinean is the second-most-bought forward of this round and is the most-owned player in his position, sitting in just under 49% of all FPL squads.

City scored 61 home league goals last season at a rate of 3.21 per fixture, while their visitors this weekend kept fewer clean sheets on the road (two) than any other Premier League side.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) has been backed for the captaincy by 1.2% of our community, meanwhile.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) is never far away from pole position in these armband polls and the Egyptian is the second-most popular option in our vote, with 11.6% of the nominations going his way.

Leicester have shipped 60+ goals for two seasons running and conceded on three occasions to Liverpool in this fixture last season, with Salah among the scorers: the 2017/18 Golden Boot winner had four shots in that fixture and made seven penalty box touches.

Salah also grabbed a brace in the return fixture in December, while he has delivered attacking returns in all three of his matches this season.

Sadio Mane (£9.9m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.1m) are the other two Reds to feature in our top ten, having been nominated by 1.6% and 1.2% of our voters respectively.

Chelsea are about to embark on an inviting double-header against Bournemouth and Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge and Eden Hazard (£10.6m) has been bought by well over 100,000 new FPL managers with those fixtures in mind.

Hazard sits third in our captain poll with 6.4% of the vote and has form against the Cherries: the Belgian midfielder has scored five goals in six league meetings with the south coast side.

Eddie Howe’s troops have conceded at least 60 goals in each of their three seasons in the top flight, while only Liverpool and Manchester City have attempted more shots than the Blues (52) so far this season.

Marcos Alonso (£6.7m) is the fifth-most popular candidate in our poll, meanwhile; the Chelsea left-back is the most-owned defender in FPL at the time of writing (in 33.7% of teams) and no player in his classification has had more attempts on goal this season.

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang (£10.9m) is sandwiched by Alonso and Hazard in our vote, with Arsenal up against Cardiff City this weekend.

The Gabonese striker has yet to record an attacking return this season and is up against a defence who have kept more clean sheets than 18 other Premier League sides.

Aubameyang’s form at the end of last season, however, hints that he could explode into life at any moment: no forward scored more goals than the former Borussia Dortmund man (ten) after his debut in Gameweek 26.

Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Theo Walcott (£6.7m) are the only other two players to have attracted more than a 1% share of the vote, meanwhile.

    Thoughts will be appreciated !

    Fabianski
    Robertson | Mendy | Alonso | PVA
    Salah | Mane | B Silva | Walcott
    Aguero | Zaha
    ( Hamer | W Biss | Elneny | Kamara)

Thinking of starting W.Bissaka for B Silva, think he's more nailed !

Would you swap Cairney and Firmino for Hazard and 5.5/5.6 Striker for a -8?

Alternative would be to play Firmino and Stephens or upgrade Cairney to Pedro for a -4?

One question related to my WC pls lads.

Have settled on Patricio as my main GK. Is it worth saving 0.5 and get Hamer (despite the fact he might never start a game again this season) to upgrade Kanté to Gray/Fraser? Or just play it safe and get a second nailed on GK like Ryan for a GK rotation (and keep Kanté)?

    B. Hamer + Fraser/Gray

if injured then you have to use a transfer for which ever keeper is on fire/fixture ready. its rare a keeper gets injured in warm up or training, mostly when they are playing so already used the GK slot for week ( as hamer did last week)

It is quite likely I will wildcard next week but is it worth doing it this week?

    Ryan
    Mendy Alonso Trippier Trent
    Salah Hazard Walcott Mkhi
    Aguero Mitro

    Button WB Westwood Success

    Did:
Patricio to Ryan - Ryan racking up saves and not convinced by Wolves' defence compared to Brighton
Hamer to Button - better back up
Robbo to trent - not too sure but could easily be worth it cause both could get rotated anyway and trent offers £1.0mil as well as attacking threat
Peltier to Trippier - set piece specialist and assists(should be nailed now)
Mane to Mkhi - our fixtures arent the best so punt on mkhi should be safe
Fraser to Walcott - streaky player so good for now and can transfer to richarlison later anyway
    Aguero - needed
Arnie to Mitro - very good form and stats
    And then fixed up bench

In reply to the scaremongering on Liverpools upcoming fixtures, people are just justifying their own decisions, saying Robertson and Salah will be rested regularly over a heavy schedule. Liverpool had a heavy schedule last season and Salah was hardly rotated.

Yes there is more of a chance Robertson gets rotated but barring injuries, Moreno will play the EFL cup game and Robertson will play prem and CL. Klopp isnt stupid, he wont put Moreno up against Mbappe, or Hazard, in important games.

If you dont want Robertson or Salah, dont pick them.

    1. MTPockets

Not really. I have 3 but still think it could be a problem, and probably wouldn't recommend it.

But i think Roberton, VVD, Alisson and Salah are safe. Fair enough, i agree with Mane, he could be rested any time but to suggest Salah will be rested for Premier League games is daft, look at his minutes last season.

I think Mane is most at risk with Shaqiri - think Salah is ok.

However, I don't see Mane or Robertson playing against Southampton, which is the issue as this is the nice fixture.

I can’t see either Salah, Robertson or Mané being rested regularly. I could see a bit rotation decreasing minutes across the board though, as well as the tougher fixtures decreasing points across the board just by virtue of Liverpool scoring 1’s and 2’s rather than 3’s and 4’s, and conceding goals here & there rather than keeping CS’s.

Having 30 ish million tied up in them doesn’t look prudent for the next while.

you have hit the nail on the head. always the slightest chance of Robertson rotation at Sou but can see him only being rotated once in the league. there is more chance of Mane losing some minutes but it will be the same for all the big teams, there will be big names rotated at times so its doesn't matter who you transfer in for Liverpool assets, there is a rotation risk

IMO the hardness of Liverpool fixtures will cause the players to play more minutes. if you club has a hard LC/CL game but has 'Easier' home fixture just before then the big name assets could be subbed to save them.

Yeah. Word in the presser was that it 'could be a few weeks'. With the break I'm hoping that could still mean only one GW out...

If you're not playing Jota against West Ham you might as well sell him.

Would you start King ahead of AWB(that would mean benching both Tomkins and AWB)

Tough call. Probably as I think the game is more fun watching/following attacking players.

can only assume Choupo Mouting's agent made a skillfully edited video for PSG showing his one, maybe two decent game for Stoke but by somehow making it seem like it was more games. fair play to him. he's played a blinder (his agent, not Choupo Mouting, he hasnt done that in ages)

With no cash limit, which two midfielders would you like to have the coming two/three gameweeks (except Salah).
Thinking of D.Silva/Hazard but is there a better combination? Thanks! 🙂

Eriksen, Jota and Firmino instead of Mane, Cairney and Aguero was my worst preseason decision in 10 years of playing.

So on a WC, this is what it comes down to

        A) Bednarek, Ings, Zaha

        B) Bennett, Ings, Tosun (already got Walcott)

        C) Bennett, Mitrovic, Wilson

        D) Move to a 4.5/4 keeper spot and make that Bednarek, Wilson, Zaha

That premium GK better be Ederson. Otherwise D.

        Pickford
        Mendy, PVA, AWB, Robertson (Hadergjonaj)
        Mane, Salah, Fraser, Maddison, Mkh
        Aguero , King (Ings)

Do I get rid of Mané

        A) Mane to DSilva
        PVA or AWB to Alonso
        -4

        Any help appreciated
