The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been busy at work again this week, producing the usual excellent array of articles and tables to help with our planning for Gameweek 4.

The hot topics, meanwhile, have ranged from short-term absentees to Liverpool assets and everything in between.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Celt Abroad kicked off the Gameweek 3 reaction with a look at the possible replacements for Richarlison, who was sent off in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

With Richarlison in mind, Gregor asked if we should sell or keep our short-term absentees and looked at the new suspension rules.

Our regular “Rough with the Smooth” thread turned up the usual success stories and horror tales, while flaming_iles discussed his own excellent start using the RMT tool.

DortmundisLove revealed the past statistics that don’t bode well for defence-heavy teams, meanwhile.

The discussion about Liverpool assets continued, with Rainer looking at the Reds’ fixtures in between the two international breaks.

Legomane floated his method of combating the impact of price falls, while RedLightning examined the overall FPL leader’s early chip usage.

The Gameweek 4 planning started with tambourineman‘s round-up of the weekend’s referees, before G-Whizz gave his weekly clean sheet probabilities, match odds and “Doosra stats”.  We also speculated on the breakout players of this coming Saturday/Sunday.

Jekori highlighted the excellent Fulham/West Ham rotation, while Reckoner looked at the best £4.5m midfielders. On the subject of budget assets: what do we do with blister victim Danny Ings?

Concerning the site itself, Benster gave some frank comments on the Scoutcast while we had a live Hall of Fame update for the first time this season.

Finally, there was a fond farewell to Niemi as a mod – but a warm welcome to Rotation’s Alter Ego.

Community Tables

Among the many, many fine tables created this week were the following efforts:

beans_on_toast

sun_jihai

drewshape

Keep your tables coming in for inclusion in our weekly round-up, with a title and description always appreciated to explain the purpose of the statistical analysis.

Community Articles

There were more super scribblings from the Community this week.

Hutch_James provided another excellent Wisdom of the Crowd, FPL Paulius looked at Gameweek 4 captains and Greyhead examined the fortunes of some elite FPL managers.

Community Tournaments

RedLightning continued his impressive start to the season to consolidate his lead at the top of the FFS Mods and Cons league. Chris James crept above TorresMagic into second, meanwhile.

1. RedLightning – 270 points
2. Chris James – 252 points
3. TorresMagic – 238 points
4. Ragabolly – 232 points
5. Geoff – 229 points

Scott Macalister is the new leader of our public FantasyFootballScout league – and has done it all without using a chip. Scott is actually tied with Cosmin Rotaru and Warren Lim (who are joint-second) but has made fewer transfers.

1. Scott Macalister – 277 points
2=. Warren Lim – 277 points
2=. Cosmin Rotaru – 277 points
4. Jasem Alturki – 276 points
5. Andy Parsons – 274 points

Nick Howard still leads the FFS Members league. Having played his Bench Boost chip in Gameweek 1, he followed that up with a Wildcard in Gameweek 2 and is now ranked 28th in the world. Our very own moderator RedLightning is also up to third.

1. Nick Howard – 281 points
2. Ryan Brazell – 271 points
3. RedLightning – 270 points
4. Graeme Bye – 269 points
5. Luke Pickering – 268 points

Meanwhile, Andrew Garland is the new leader of RedLightning‘s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, three points ahead of the league’s creator. Pete Bullingham and Francisco Lamarque are actually tied in third.

1. Andrew Garland – 273 points
2. RedLightning – 270 points
3=. Pete Bullingham – 266 points
3=. Francisco Lamarque – 266 points
5. Luke Aiello – 259 points

Might be the best quote I’ve seen here in a long time...

Same. Can always get him back on a wildcard. It's not like he is rising or anything. I'm going to spread the funds for a little while with two ft before gw7

To be fair, Im dropping him after Soton before Chelsea and City before getting him back on a WC in 9. So not that brave as you are.

I didn't own him last year until the new year and ended up with my worst rank in years. However, that was last year and it doesn't necessarily make it relevant to this year.

I totally agree. But his stats are there and he is producing. We have no evidence of lack of form. Until then, I can't see why you would sell him.

I know Arsenal Defence isnt very hot here, but which one would you go if you rated em.

    A)Monreal
    -nailed
    -Kola and Maitland both injured
    -Doesnt foray forward too much
    B)Bellerin
    -more attacking
    -Lichtsteiner lurking

I think Kepa at 5.5 is not good enough value, and if you take one 4.5 keeper you´ll soon get enough for alonso, which seems to be the reason why you have two Chelsea defenders, to try to have cover, but Alonsos points coming from attacking returns i would not choose other from their defence. VVd to TAA another possibility to save some cash, albeit he´s on 3 yellows and slightly more rotation issues, perhaps. But seeing as you have both Fraser and Neves i think yo are covered fine if TAA or Trippier doesn´t start.

Not essential no, but I’ll most likely be keeping him. Liverpool are solid at the back, he hoovers up BAPS and smacks crosses/chances in like a madman. Also doesn’t tend to get booked too often from what I’ve seen. TAA could maybe be good depending on how you use the extra mil, but not as nailed either

to me, Liverpools defence have looked very good since the start of the year 2018-19, which is backed by stats, and even if Chelsea have better fixtures right now, i would hesitate to bring Robbo (or any other Liv defender) out, as it could lead you to wanting them back very soon and also force you to take a wildcard to get them in again. But of course one could take them out now and then bring them in on a wc later, but Robertson could be 6.5 at the time you´ll want him back. To me at least, Leicester looks ok for cs and goals involvement, Spurs difficult ofc, but who knows, Southampton very likely, and Chelsea tough but not impossible to get something from, City obv difficult but CHLsemifinal ended 3-0 Liverpool so who knows how it pans out. Then you will want him back and if say, 2 cs and one assist through this matches which is quite possible i would think it´s worth holding onto. At the same time, having 3 from Liverpool during this run might be too much as the other top teams also have nice fixtures. My plan is to stick with VVD and Salah, but selling Mané to get Hazard.

Mkhitaryan or Lucas Moura has plagued me since the Spurs / Man Utd game.
My head says it has to be Mkhitaryan because the fixtures are better for Arsenal and there is always the question of Son returning at Spurs after the international break and taking minutes from Moura. But,......... I can’t shake my gut feeling that Moura is the one to go for. Playing almost as a second striker and kind of gives you that Spurs coverage against Kane. Probably a bigger ceiling too.
What are the thoughts out there?

    1. Mishon
      • 9 Years

I have both, but have had Moura from the start. I would get him, despite Son coming back, because Spurs are a better team than Arsenal.

There is no right or wrong answer with this, there isn't enough stats to see who is the best. They are both on the border of points all the time and so it will be luck that wins

Moura is a good player and performance vs MUN was very good, but I just don’t really see the huge appeal others are seeing. I can’t see Son not coming back in at least partially, which means shared and probably (?)!less mins than Mhki. I do see the point and appeal about his advanced pitch position, but I feel it’s maybe a tad knee-jerky - a fair few transferred him out just last week mind. Don’t think I’ll be getting him in unless I see signs of reliable consistency and lots of mins likely.

      So, I’ve got mhki

Generally what do you fear more?
Not captaining Salah or not captaining Aguero?

This thought has put my armband back to Salah, am I overthinking?

Not captaining Salah cos of ownership. However (especially this early in season) the appeal of Aguero fixture is too much

Bennett isn't nailed but at that price I think he's a decent shout for a 5th mid - just don't rely on him holding his spot.

      Not a chance.

      A) Aguero could be rotated
      B) Newcastle could keep it tight
      C) You get one chance to nail the points not the two which a dgw provides.

I know a fullback never scored a hatrick before neither did converted wingers to strikers either (unless their named Cristiano). Times change but premium strikers and mid do the business.

Everyone seems to be moving to premium defenders when we've learnt season after season this doesn't work out in the end...

Same as last season, money will be moved into attack soon.

    2. Demel
      • 14 Years
      7 years, 7 months ago

That's incorrect. The guy who was top last season and went on the scoutcast started the season with 4 premium defenders and just 1 premium attacker. He played 442 and also had a mid priced and budget forward.

He didn't do too bad with that tactic.

It only needs to work in the short-term. No need to stick to same formation all season.

It won’t work the whole season, but it’s working right now.

Those calling it “the year of the left backs” after 3 weeks are the true deluded ones.

Well, that is my biggest change in tactic from previous seasons, and I've never had a better start. Of course it might change over the season, but until now is has proven the right strategy.

I don't know. I feel like I'm consistently kicking myself later in the season for not starting with more premium defenders.
