The Fantasy Football Scout Community have been busy at work again this week, producing the usual excellent array of articles and tables to help with our planning for Gameweek 4.

The hot topics, meanwhile, have ranged from short-term absentees to Liverpool assets and everything in between.

Our latest Community Round-up feature has it all covered.

The Hottest Topics

Celt Abroad kicked off the Gameweek 3 reaction with a look at the possible replacements for Richarlison, who was sent off in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.

With Richarlison in mind, Gregor asked if we should sell or keep our short-term absentees and looked at the new suspension rules.

Our regular “Rough with the Smooth” thread turned up the usual success stories and horror tales, while flaming_iles discussed his own excellent start using the RMT tool.

DortmundisLove revealed the past statistics that don’t bode well for defence-heavy teams, meanwhile.

The discussion about Liverpool assets continued, with Rainer looking at the Reds’ fixtures in between the two international breaks.

Legomane floated his method of combating the impact of price falls, while RedLightning examined the overall FPL leader’s early chip usage.

The Gameweek 4 planning started with tambourineman‘s round-up of the weekend’s referees, before G-Whizz gave his weekly clean sheet probabilities, match odds and “Doosra stats”.  We also speculated on the breakout players of this coming Saturday/Sunday.

Jekori highlighted the excellent Fulham/West Ham rotation, while Reckoner looked at the best £4.5m midfielders. On the subject of budget assets: what do we do with blister victim Danny Ings?

Concerning the site itself, Benster gave some frank comments on the Scoutcast while we had a live Hall of Fame update for the first time this season.

Finally, there was a fond farewell to Niemi as a mod – but a warm welcome to Rotation’s Alter Ego.

Community Tables

Among the many, many fine tables created this week were the following efforts:

beans_on_toast

sun_jihai

drewshape

Keep your tables coming in for inclusion in our weekly round-up, with a title and description always appreciated to explain the purpose of the statistical analysis.

Community Articles

There were more super scribblings from the Community this week.

Hutch_James provided another excellent Wisdom of the Crowd, FPL Paulius looked at Gameweek 4 captains and Greyhead examined the fortunes of some elite FPL managers.

Community Tournaments

RedLightning continued his impressive start to the season to consolidate his lead at the top of the FFS Mods and Cons league. Chris James crept above TorresMagic into second, meanwhile.

1. RedLightning – 270 points
2. Chris James – 252 points
3. TorresMagic – 238 points
4. Ragabolly – 232 points
5. Geoff – 229 points

Scott Macalister is the new leader of our public FantasyFootballScout league – and has done it all without using a chip. Scott is actually tied with Cosmin Rotaru and Warren Lim (who are joint-second) but has made fewer transfers.

1. Scott Macalister – 277 points
2=. Warren Lim – 277 points
2=. Cosmin Rotaru – 277 points
4. Jasem Alturki – 276 points
5. Andy Parsons – 274 points

Nick Howard still leads the FFS Members league. Having played his Bench Boost chip in Gameweek 1, he followed that up with a Wildcard in Gameweek 2 and is now ranked 28th in the world. Our very own moderator RedLightning is also up to third.

1. Nick Howard – 281 points
2. Ryan Brazell – 271 points
3. RedLightning – 270 points
4. Graeme Bye – 269 points
5. Luke Pickering – 268 points

Meanwhile, Andrew Garland is the new leader of RedLightning‘s Top 10k Any Season mini-league, three points ahead of the league’s creator. Pete Bullingham and Francisco Lamarque are actually tied in third.

1. Andrew Garland – 273 points
2. RedLightning – 270 points
3=. Pete Bullingham – 266 points
3=. Francisco Lamarque – 266 points
5. Luke Aiello – 259 points

      Makes sense. For dgw he'll be rested in one during a busy schedule. Same with Salah. For dgw they won't have a better opponent or better form.

        Think about it that way. Among the very elite players at the end of the season (we're talking elite as top 100), a huge majority of those players fighting for the very top places all still had their chips for DGWs. You won't gain much at this stage of the season, people will catch up, but by the end of the season you might find yourself in a position where these chips are going to be much more valuable.

                  He is outscoring Trippier currently. As far as rotation goes, Trippier only played in 24 games last season and a few of those were subbed off the bench. Yeah he was injured too, but Pochetino rotates his outside backs more often than anyone. It's not a mystery, it's out there for all to see. Mendy will destroy him in minutes played and points. Bookmark it.

            Ok, you've lost me now. Trippier is as big a rotation risk as anyone in Tottenham's system. Mendy is playing more like an attacking wing/forward. Mancity's clean sheet potential also higher. I can't get behind your statement at all.

          Or maybe he will? Why not just do Mane and King to Hazard and jimenez? I like bringing in Alonso as well, but sacrificing Mendy for it is a no go for me. I'd have both if I was burning my WC.

      Roost, I agree with Costa - losing Mendy is borderline criminal even with the odd rotation he’s just so ridiculously attractive for an FPL defender. 4 assists in first 2 games bonus without defence or attacking returns. He’s the one must have defender IMO

      As much as I like Moura, United going with the un-mourinho Park the bus tactics played completely into his hands. He’s a fast kid and the fact they tried to play him offside was ridiculous. I do feel he’s a good option but don’t expect him to set the world a light like he did at old Trafford every week.

      Walcott still for me.

        I get your point, but it's not like I've asked people to pick random players for me to captain. Hazard and Aguero are both very good fpl wise and I'm stuck between them both.

          im not trying to be rude but there's a captain poll if you're in doubt.

          I wouldn't let others pick my capt & your logic has me confused: here you ask Haz or Kun… a few comments down you say if others weren't TCing Kun you'd do it... well then if he's good enough to TC why not just C?

        This. So so much this.

        Had this debate earlier on here. It’s ridiculois to trip-c him when 80% of the game will give him the armband. The benefits do not warrant the chip.

          I understand your logic. Your not really gaining an advantage as the majority of teams will get 2/3 of your TC.

            49.3% of FPL own Aguero, and captain poll has 61.48% of the vote going to Aguero.

            Literally most of the game don't even own him let alone the majority of teams will get 2/3 of your TC.

            1. Mr Wizard
              • 15 Years
              7 years, 7 months ago

              If you are playing the game and know anything about football you would own Aguero by now, especially for this week with his record against Newcastle.

              If Aguero does anything this week and you don’t have him your morn than likely seeing a red arrow.

              Just because he’s not over 50% ownership doesn’t mean the top 100k don’t hold the majority of his current ownership.

              All I’m saying is, you look down any league your competing in and almost every team in and around you has Aguero.

              TC will only give you 1/3 captain points advantage over those teams.

              I think I’ve talked myself out of this now 🙁

            • 10 Years
            7 years, 7 months ago

            It does to me...

            If Aguero gets 15points:
            Captain = 30 points
            Trip Captain = 45points.

            Because most of the game will captain him this week, you’re using a very powerful chip and gaining only 15points. Depending on the rest of your team you could end up with red flags all around and I just think it’s a waste tbh.

            Each to their own.

                You’re completely missing the point.

                15 points isn’t great for a TC.

                Because nearly everyone who isn’t casual or a bot owns Aguero and most are TC him - you’re TCing a player who’s getting 5points.

                That’s what it breaks down too, madness.

    Locked in TC on Kun (gulp)

      Counter-argument.

      1) most people have him C. So you only get 1/3 bonus. Unless he gets 5 goals you don’t benefit really and the chip has gone.
      2) DGW statistically give you the best route for returns, although it’s always failed with me.
      3) If you trip-c a differential whose in form and has decent fixture(s) then you can chase rank. He who dares wins.

      Feels a waste on Kun atm IMO.

    Was just considering triple captaining Aguero v Newcastle this week. The other two fixtures I'd be targeting are Huddersfield at home (missed it) and Cardiff at home (GW33).

    Does GW33 usually end up a blank gameweek? If so, Man City could have Cardiff(H) and Leicester(H) in GW37. Or have I got that totally wrong?

        Rotation is becoming a bigger issue each season. I think there may only be Kane worth TC in a DGW. Even Liverpool have the squad depth now to rotate Mané and Salah should Klopp feel the need.

      Usually GW34 and 37 DGWs

      GW31 and 35 were blanks last year.

      31 has MUN MCI but best case scenario is Spurs CPA gets moved to 34. Two home games vs CPA and HUD = Kane 34*3
