Manchester City are set to be at the heart of the latest captaincy debate this week, but it shall remain a far from simple discussion.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 5 captain poll and can watch the video below or on our YouTube channel.

The fact big hitters Tottenham and Liverpool are set to do battle at Wembley Stadium in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off should curtail interest in their best players.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) are typically important figures in the captaincy conversation but may suffer from facing each other’s clubs this weekend.

That brings us back to Man City and their appealing home fixture against Fulham, a side that has averaged 2.25 goals conceded per match so far in 2018/19.

Conversely, the defending champions have found the net eight times in their first two home matches.

However, the start of the Champions League on the following Wednesday could potentially complicate the team selection for Pep Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) will likely be the standout candidate from the poll but at this point we don’t have any guarantees that he will definitely start against Fulham – although he tends to be favoured at home.

David Silva (£8.5m) may receive some attention as the more reliable starter with Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) still out for some time.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) should also be considered by some as he looks undroppable on current form.

Make sure you let us know who you’re going to hand the armband to by using our poll below, or on the sidebar.

Looking at bringing in Hazard, what combo is the best? 4th midfielder is Fraser

    A) Hazard Salah Maddison (-4)
    B) Hazard Mané Dilva (-4)
    C) Hazard Mané Bilva + 2.7itb (no hit)
    D) Do not bring Hazard in

Personally I think B. Not completely sold on Dilva but out of the three options above I would pick B

How does this squad look, assuming no injuries. I'm aware I have no Salah, but believe it's worth the risk.

    Ederson (Stekelenburg)

    Robertson Mendy Alonso (W-B, Holebas)

Mane, Hazard, Alli, Walcott, Schurrle (Walcott to Richarlison)

    Aguero, Wilson (Ings)

Holebas and Ings to be used when required

  22. Budget defender options
    Krionos

I've been looking at defenders and especially trying to pick out a few good cheap options.

I've mainly picked out some stats from the distribution and goal threat tables to see which defenders rank high on potential for assists and goals. There are many familiar faces and a few differential picks that could provide good value.

After getting some data I looked at the fixture ticker for the next few games and picked out the standout options:

Doherty - Wolves have good fixtures and Doherty looks to carry some good goal threat. He's had 5 goal attempts, all inside the box. Only one less than Alonso's 6 shots in the box.

Ake - Ake has had more big chances than any other player at 3, and Bournemouth have great fixtures and form.

Rico - Continuing with Bournemouth defenders, Rico has created 3 chances and 2 of them were big chances. In just 90 minutes of playing time! Could see him in a lot more teams in a few weeks time.

AWB - Wan Bissaka could end up on the bench for many, with the Mendy/Robbo/Alonso trio dominating teams. But for those on a WC and considering dropping Liverpool assets ahead of a tough run should consider keeping this fella and playing him every week. He has created 5 chances and 2 big chances. Pretty similar stats to Robertson.

Holebas - Now, Watford have tough fixtures, but are in sensational form. And Holebas' numbers are outstanding. 9 chances created, 26 crosses and 10 successful crosses. Even if they concede, Holebas looks like he could keep on accruing assists and possibly bonus points.

Shaw - His head injury complicates things and is a wait and see for now. But Man United have good fixtures and he is posting great numbers. 8 goal attempts and 4 shots in the box. Arguably has the highest clean sheet potential out of all these budget options also... Hopefully he will be back soon!

Bugger, forgot to add Monreal. This guy is definitely on my watchlist, as he scored quite a few goals last season and looks like he is continuing in the same vein this year. Arsenal seem very overlooked with that great run of fixtures they have...

      1. is this real
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 8 Years

When he plays, Monreal is an awesome asset from goal threat perspective. Problem is that he gets injured constantly, he gets rotated when the other LBs are available and Arsenal can't keep a clean sheet. Too many things working against him imo.

Yep they all look good options. Steve Cook deserves a shout 9ver Ake though. He's got a goal already as well and is 0.5 cheaper. Rico could be the new Charlie Daniels....

Yes, Cedric also looks great. But his fixtures aren't great. That's why I decided to include Holebas instead, as his numbers are better overall. Definitely an option though...

    5. MTPockets
        7 years, 5 months ago

All else equal Holebas seems a good bet. I got Doherty though as looks very good value, and rotation works.

He may not be playing soon with Dendocker lurking.

        thoughts?

        henny
        mendy - alonso - pva
        hazard - pedro - moura - mkhi
        kun(c) - ings - auba

        hamer - robertson - awb - guendouzi

plan to take no hits gw5 but am considering the below moves for gw6:

        - mkhi + ings > fraser + mitrovic (-4) - thoughts on these moves?

So you are certain Mitro will definitely outscore Ings by 4 points in gw6. How much do you have on that at the bookies?

can't tell if this is sarcasm or not - but yes im quietly confident given ings does not play against his parent club liverpool in gw6?

              Yeah, decent moves considering.

Fraser is always lurking and Mitro is a machine.

        1) Go with 3-5-2 or 4-4-2
        2) Start which players?

Mendy, Alonso (Robbo / AWB / Doherty)
Salah, Haz, Moura (Mkhi / Fraser)

          3-5-2

          mendy alonso robertson
          salah haz moura mkhi fraser

Currently on that but feeling a goal or two for TOT.

AWB (hud) and Doherty (BUR) are decent fixtures.

yep tbh i fear the same that's why personally im putting robbo as 1st sub (see my team above) - any thoughts on that?

In your situation I'd possibly go doherty home to burnley in that case

Not sure why Haz and Alonso haven't been highlighted in this "Gameweek 5 Captain" poll?
They're both very strong and are up against Cardiff...

Are people thinking there's a risk they'll have limited minutes in the run up to PAOK?

          Agu (H) v Fulham
          Haz(H) v Cardiff
surely has to be between these two,
fancy Aguero 2,5,10,15 points Haz 8,9 myself so going Haz

Morning all. Got a couple of issues here, what do you reckon I should do?

          Patricio // Hamer;

          Mendy // Alonso // TAA // Tomkins* // AWB;

          Salah // Mane // Walcott* // Bernardo Silva* // Stephens;

          Aguero // Ings // Zaha*;

          1 FT 0.7 ITB

          ------

Injuries to Zaha, AWB, Tomkins and Walcott plus B Silva rotation...

Guess it's a case of waiting for press conferences for last min decison. Could all be fine.

Holebas and Auba or Robertson and Wilson for next 5 weeks?

5 weeks is a long time in FPL.

In that case, I can see more combined returns for Robbo + Wilson. Even with rotation risks in the LIV defence
