Manchester City are set to be at the heart of the latest captaincy debate this week, but it shall remain a far from simple discussion.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 5 captain poll and can watch the video below or on our YouTube channel.

The fact big hitters Tottenham and Liverpool are set to do battle at Wembley Stadium in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off should curtail interest in their best players.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) are typically important figures in the captaincy conversation but may suffer from facing each other’s clubs this weekend.

That brings us back to Man City and their appealing home fixture against Fulham, a side that has averaged 2.25 goals conceded per match so far in 2018/19.

Conversely, the defending champions have found the net eight times in their first two home matches.

However, the start of the Champions League on the following Wednesday could potentially complicate the team selection for Pep Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) will likely be the standout candidate from the poll but at this point we don’t have any guarantees that he will definitely start against Fulham – although he tends to be favoured at home.

David Silva (£8.5m) may receive some attention as the more reliable starter with Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) still out for some time.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) should also be considered by some as he looks undroppable on current form.

Make sure you let us know who you’re going to hand the armband to by using our poll below, or on the sidebar.

Was going to wildcard this week but ultimately decided against it. Got 2.6 million in the bank and just a solo transfer. I'm undecided which way to go with it.

    (A) IN Dilva OUT Jota

    (B) IN Vardy OUT Zaha

Also have King and Arnie as strikers. Currently sweating on the Zaha injury and price drop.

    Patricio (Hamer)
    Alonso, Mendy, Holebas (Bennett, Wan-Bissaka)
    Hazard, Mané, Pedro, Fraser (Billing)
    Aguero, Lukaku, Mitrovic

How's my WC team looking. Not final yet by any means but I like the looks of this.

    Patricio - Hamer

    Mendy - Alonso - Chilwell - AWB - Bennett

    Hazard - Mane - Moura - Maddison - Hojberg

    Kun- Laca - Mitro

    Defence is:

    Mendy, Alonso, Doherty (BUR)

1st sub in case Mkhi is a no-show:

    A) Robbo (tot)
    B) AWB (hud)

Had the same dilemma trying to play one of Robbo (lei) & AWB (SOU) last week. Thankfully went with Robbo as he got an assist and Palace lost by 2 goals.

      Robbo for me

Im anticipating a high scoring game between spurs and liverpool, potentially a 3-2, 3-3 kind of game, with Salah on the scoresheet, a salah goal this weekend and sellers will be panicking with Southampton home the following week

I have Salah but to be honest he wont be of much value at 13mn. Last year was kinda freak year. Could see him match hazard this season not go 300+ like last season. Will kick out after Soton if Kane shows great form

      1. Pacer.
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 10 days ago

This is not true imo. I think he's the absolute nailed on first player on any managers team sheet

        Cons: £13m

        Pros:

        Captain choice every week

Currently heading for another 300 pointer and expected goals and assists are v good

Set and forget player: no need a waste one single transfer on him all season, while other managers are playing hokey cokey, using their FTs with the spare funds trying to gain ground against an exceptional player

Basically the only con isn't even a con because he represents fine value at £13m

        1. DGW Sane TC Fail....
          • 15 Years

Hazard wont even be close to his points come the end of the season. Historically Hazard is a nightmare to own. I think he's massively over achieving this year and he won't keep that rate up. The question is can you make the difference up with the extra cash? Which at the moment am not sure ..

          1. J T
            • 9 Years
            8 years, 10 days ago

This is nonsense. Hazard is not over performing by any means, if anything he has underperformed fpl wise because of defensive managers and poor strikers. He had a great World Cup and looks better than ever.
Playing for an attacking manager for once, he can easily compete with Salah this year.

You think Hazard is capable of having a 30+ goal season? He's played with very good Strikers and he's never ripped up a full season with them. He's never been fantasy football gold.

I cant wait for this game. Liverpool have really slowed the tempo down this season and am wondering if thats a new tactic. Am expecting a much higher tempo and be right in spurs faces. Like you i think there will be a few goals. Then the panic on here to get Salah back for Southampton.

    hi lads,
    feedback needed here:
    my current team:
    Bego (Stekelenburg)
    Mendy, Alonso, Robertson (Schlupp, W-Bissaka)
    Mane, Mkhi, Pedro, Bilva (McArthur)
    Kun, Auba, King

    WC team:
    Kepa (Stekelenburg)
    Mendy, Alonso, Trippier (W-Bissaka, Bennett)
Mane, Hazard, Pogba, Pereyra (Helder Costa)
    Kun, Mitro, Wilson

What do you think? I want Hazard (high priority) and Trippier (mid priority) in my team, also want to improve on GK position (mid priority).
am I missing anything? gtg? thanks in advance!

I actually like your pre-WC team better..

Also don't fancy double Chelsea defense. Ederson probably a better bet.

Pogba isn's really a good option, DSilva a better bet.

Trippier is great, but guaranteed to rotate quite a few games with the way Pochettino manages his squad...

Would not get rid of Pedro either...

        i did not WC yet.
I might end up doing 2 changes for a hit:
        examples include:
        A) Bilva+Auba to Hazard and Mitro
        B) Bilva to Moura for free
        C) save FT
        D) Bilva+King to Pereyra and Mitro for a hit

Thoughts on this wildcard team please:

    Ryan (Button)
    Alonso - Mendy - Robo - Doherty (W-B)
Salah - Mane - Dilva - Pedro (Hojbjerg)
    Aguero - Wilson (Kamara)

No Hazard because I want to keep Salah and I think Mane and Dilva offer better value. 0.9 itb to upgrade Pedro > Ramsey or Wilson > Mitrovic

No Pool forward/mid could hurt you, they perform in big games
      Ramsey a no for me

Like the risk but it's true, going without Liverpool is an unacceptable and unnecessary risk imo. Scale back your 'risks' a little imo

    Morning all

Wildcard active due to ridiculous injury list and also the need to get Alonso in.

Who are the 2 best £4.5m GKs to get in? Don’t need to rotate necessarily.

At the moment I’m on Foster/Patricio.

    Thanks

        I'm fairly sold on Patricio.

Not sold on Palace defence without Tomkins or West Ham defence full stop!

          Fair enough.
I Think Palace are okay when Tomkins is back and decent fixtures.
Fab is just Getting those saves and WH has to improve at some point. When pickinh keepers on a WC, I’m guessing you are picking them for a very long term. Fab could become a good option.
          Good luck either way 🙂

I did have Ryan before he is a decent option.

I am avoiding all West Ham at the moment.

There does not seem to be much love for holebas on here?

Free kick taker and basically a winger (with some decent fixtures too).

at 4.7 surely he is amazing value or am i missing something?

Sitting on six flagged players (incl both goalies) with no FT, I'll be surprised if I manage to get 11 players out

Salah is going to punish sellers over the next month, IMO.

All the stats are there. XG, XBuild up play, shots in the box, area of shots, average position etc.

He hasn't been at his brilliant best but has 4 returns in 4.

His next 3 fixutres are Spurs, Saints, Chelsea.
Spurs play right into Liverpool's hands.
    Saints are pretty awful.
Chelsea are conceding clear cut chances.

Fair dos to anyone who sells and does well, but don't be surprised if Salah hauls over the next few weeks.

It's only a matter of time.

He's on course for another 300 pointer.

A player you can just set and completely disregard for the season is a gift from the gods when a significant number of managers choose the other route

I'm not sure why Salah/no Salah is even a conversation

I understand. I am a Salah owner, but even Mane is on course for a 300 pointer. Heck, Holebas is! It’s way too early to decide anything

Salah has the stats and a previous 300 point season to back it up. I think we can point to fairly obvious reasons Holebas won't rack up 300 points so it seems a bit of a silly comparison!

It all depends on how well people redistribute those points. But I am also still firmly in the Keep Salah corner. His expected points projections for the next 5 is still much higher than any other midfielder.

Depends on the size of his hauls and what selling him has allowed managers to do I guess. Other than the Southampton game I don't think many will be considering him for captain (rightly or wrongly) in the next 4 and the week he plays Southampton Man City play Cardiff so there are alternatives.

He'd need to get some huge scores for it to be really damaging - he's perfectly capable but if you're ever going to sell him then it's a good time to do it.

Currently debating selling him for David Silva and using the funds to change Peltier to Alonso (or something else, haven't thought it through properly yet)

Only other route to David Silva would involve selling Aubameyang which is another strong possibility as he's been a bit weak so far but still wavering.

Im leading my ML, and less than half have Salah, and im aware of a further 1 thats has removed him this week, im loving every second, im in a situation were Salah, is a differential. It is a 15 man league! Unbeleivable

He will probably keep getting returns of ONLY 9 or 10 points to keep the sellers happy. Can see a 20pointer mixed in there over the next 4/5 games though just as no one expects it

    Ryan
    Robertson Alonso Mendy
    Fraser Salah Hazard Walcott
    Jiminez Zaha Aguero

    Fabianski Wan-Bissaka Kante Bennett

    1 FT 0ITB

    A) Walcott } Maddison
    B) Zaha } Mitrovic/Wilson/Deeney
    C) Hold
    D) Something else

    Thanks in advance.

One problem with Salah, is that he can be hard to fit back in, without a wildcard.
