Manchester City are set to be at the heart of the latest captaincy debate this week, but it shall remain a far from simple discussion.

You can now vote in the Gameweek 5 captain poll and can watch the video below or on our YouTube channel.

The fact big hitters Tottenham and Liverpool are set to do battle at Wembley Stadium in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off should curtail interest in their best players.

Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) are typically important figures in the captaincy conversation but may suffer from facing each other’s clubs this weekend.

That brings us back to Man City and their appealing home fixture against Fulham, a side that has averaged 2.25 goals conceded per match so far in 2018/19.

Conversely, the defending champions have found the net eight times in their first two home matches.

However, the start of the Champions League on the following Wednesday could potentially complicate the team selection for Pep Guardiola.

Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) will likely be the standout candidate from the poll but at this point we don’t have any guarantees that he will definitely start against Fulham – although he tends to be favoured at home.

David Silva (£8.5m) may receive some attention as the more reliable starter with Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m) still out for some time.

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) should also be considered by some as he looks undroppable on current form.

Make sure you let us know who you’re going to hand the armband to by using our poll below, or on the sidebar.

I think Salah will have a good game Saturday and at least score, is it worth going against the Poll?

    Bottomed,
    Hi lads,
Here's the situation (post WC GW3, OR 150k)
    Hennessy - Hamer
    Alonso - Mendy - VVD - AWB - Bennett
    Salah - Hazard - Maddison - Schurle - Neves
    Aubam - Mitrovic - Wilson

Point is, very scared of GW5 without Kun (c) vs. poor Fulham def.

    A. Aubam + Neves > Kun + Billing
    B. Aubam + VVD > Kun + Laporte
    C. Keep faith on Aubam and hope for Kun benched or blanked
    D. Other

    Any suggestion appreciated

I think you shouldn't be selling Auba at this point. He's just scored a goal and sometimes that's all a striker of his calibre needs to start firing game after game.

England confirm Dele Alli has been withdrawn from the Three Lions squad due to the minor muscle strain he picked up in the 2-1 defeat to Spain.

His position was never under immediate threat.

This might be a good news for Son or Eriksen if Poch decided to field Dier and pushes Eriksen up the field.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Let's collect some of our biggest Wildcard questions together here - non-wildcarders are obviously welcome to contribute what they think the biggest decisions are.

What are you still struggling to decide, and why can't you decide? Are there specific positions or price points that are troublesome? What are they and why are they difficult? Which players have been in and out of your draft and will you likely be starting with them?

Which teams are causing you trouble, and why?

We are looking at having a RMT WC Community Article at some point this week, so let's try to keep straight RMTs out of this Hot Topic!

DSilva at this point in time looks a far better option. Pogba has done nothing but sit next to the two centre back and either miss or score penalties.

Not a wildcarder, but it seems some of the most common big questions are
      - Mo Salah vs No Salah vs Salah + Mane
      - Keeping Pool defender?
      - 5.5m keeper + 4m vs. 2x 4.5m keepers
      - 2, 3 or 4 premium players or spreading funds (Salah, Mane, Hazard, Aguero, Kane, Auba, Lukaku etc.)
      - Rotation risk in midfield ; Pedro, Moura, Mkhi, Bilva/Dilva
      - Is it an option to play 4 or even 5 at the back with so many defenders delivering
      - Watford form vs. fixtures
      - Best cheap attacking options; Jiminez/Ings, Mitro, Wilson, Arnie/Zaha
      - How much is it worth investing a bit on a decent bench? Rotated players often get a cameo, so how good options do you really need on the bench?

The bench question is an interesting one for me. I did a bit of analysis on this at the beginning of the season. I went with the assumption that you wanted to invest in your starting 11, rather than your bench (so not looking at clever rotation options of cheap players around fixtures).

I looked at GKs, and from last season, for clubs that had a clear No. 1, there were almost no surprise exclusions, so no need to worry there (at least until you get to meaningless games around GW37/38).

Then looking at the outfield 10, I made some assumptions around unknown games missed (where you've no chance to make a transfer beforehand, like Zaha GW4). I assumed this would happen, on average 2 or 3 games per season for each player. From this I worked out (simple Monte Carlo if you're into that sort of thing) that you that you would probably use your first sub over 10 times a season. Your second would come on up to 5 times, and your 3rd, once, if at all.

So as to how much to invest, if you're looking at value, take the expected points, and divide by 3 or 4 (10/38). Your second sub's score is divided by about 10, and your 3rd is worth almost zero.

So basically, even your first sub is probably worth very little.

Of course, this assumes you can make transfers each week to deal with known absences, and that you aren't invested in players with a high rotation risk.

For what it's worth, I decided to go for 2 cheap playing subs (Wan Bissaka is a real boon here, Kenedy I'm less pleased with) and 1 non-playing who I didn't think would lose value (Wells (4.5m) at Burnley). If I were swapping now, I think I'd look for a third playing forward - there seems to be enough value in the 5.5-7m bracket to make that work, with two 4.0m defenders, and a playing 4.5m mid, because that would save me 0.5m, and there's a small chance that having someone who actually plays gets you points.

Ive found that i utilise my bench most weeks, even though I choose mostly nailed players. There's always surprise injuries, rotation and suspensions. With the fixture schedule coming up it's definitely worth having at least one player on the bench that you would be happy to play for 5+ games imo. To address these risks I'm also considering increasing the proportion of players that are in form and don't play in Europe.

Good points being made, but I do think it’s very tough to make an estimated guess on how much you’ll gain from bench players.
For example, I got almost 200 point from GKs alone last year, by rotating DDG with a 4.5 - I think DDG got a total of 172 or something.
But this year it seems we are blessed with some cheaper good options like AWB, Bennet etc., so maybe no use in investing too much there.
Haven’t really crunched the numbers myself yet though.

        me atm

        - Salah + Mane
        - yes. have Robertson
        - 3 premium and spreading funds. Play fantasy need to be intellect analyze potential bargain.
        - Have 3, Pedro, Moura, Schurrle
        - Have RAM + AWB + Shaw. So depend on form, fixture, situation to play 3atb, 4atb or 5atb.
        - Watford form amazing but im not sure trusted enough their attacking.
        - Best cheap option for me Ings. He is the cheapest yet deliver imo but I do not have him atm.
        - Worth it. But not have too strong bench. Having like Shaw, Holebas as bench along with AWB more than enough for me.

Because, he's unbelievable good. And when it happens for him, which I can't imagine will be long at all, it will be impossibly hard to get him in without hits. Mane's great value (or he was). Happy to own him from GW1.

I also think he's a beast in big games - so as fixture proof as they come. I like your defensive choices. I'm in a similar spot there. I'm dropping TAA for the next run of fixtures for the opposite reason I'm keeping Salah - I don't think there's many a CS to be had — and will get him or Gomez back in 5/6 weeks.

I just think there is/was better value out there then Salah.
The teams to be going for on the wildcard have to be a mix of Leicester, Brighton, Bournemouth Wolves.
Then fit your choice of big names around them from the top 6,
TAA is a good pick after liverpools tough spell I am considering him as well.

Something which is continually popping up for WC teams is who to trust out of Leicester, Everton and Bournemouth to get the right enablers for the coveted premiums.

All three have been reasonably impressive to different extents at the start of the season and all have a good fixture run, but who to back?

Template in attack broadly seems to be:
      Liverpool Attacker - Hazard - ? - ?
      Aguero - Mitrovic - ?

Then the ?s are a combination of varying Spurs/Arsenal/City assets, plus one or two of Wilson / Fraser / Maddison / Richarlison* / Zaha*.

We know that jumping on the right enabler early can act as a brilliant differential too - but often feels like a coin toss 😐

somewhat viable - when you rotate, you often get it wrong anyway since save points can be so invaluable when a GK comes up against a top team. Only problem is injury/major loss of form - sucks to have to spend a transfer on a GK but then it happens so rarely

Worthwhile including Shaw as a 4th defender, even if it looks like he’ll miss a week? Plenty of cover on the bench with the likes of AWB and Mitro. Seems to me to be the best option at that price, and provided we don’t hear anything before the deadline ruling him out for longer than a single week I’d be very tempted.

Alternatives at that price range include Pereira and Holebas.

      My doubts.

1.) Should I keep Robertson or downgrade him to accommodate D.Silva in my midfield.

2.) Lacazette in or out. He's a risk I know but if he starts regularly I think he could be gold.

3.) Should I find a way to accommodate Trippier in my team.

I'll start with the ones I have answered...
      Mane vs Salah = Salah
      Hazard vs Salah = Salah

      And now the tough ones:

      1) Hazard vs Silva + 2m --

If going the Silva route, I'll likely take Pedro to have Pedro/Salah/Silva/Maddison/Fraser across the midfield, and be able to hold on to Mitro and Zaha with Aguero upfront, and even have money for the power back three (RAM) + AWB + Bennett/Doherty/Boly

      2) Mitro vs anyone cheap
Mitro's stats are crazy good but has he been "lucky" up against Burnley, etc., and therefore likely to regress against a few tough matchups coming up

      3) Ings vs Jimenez
      - fixtures a bit of a worry for Ings (incl no show against Liverpool - pls fix that in RMT tool btw), but he is likely to outdo Jimenez over the season

I think the biggest problem I would have if wildcarding would be surrounding the mid price midfielders. Apart from David Silva I don't see any viable options between 7m and 9m. Which would naturally push the wildcard structure more to an extreme mixture of premiums and budget picks - which makes it problematic for a long term structure and potentially inflexible.

There also aren't any playing 4.5 or 5.0 forwards, which would normally rule out a flexible 4-4-2 structure for me. The cheapest i see is Jimenez at 5.5m. However, you could make a case for having a stronger rotating in first sub at this price to cope with the almost inevitable rotation/injuries/suspensions which will occur from time to time. The question of squad depth versus max money on the pitch is a key call to make on WC as its not easily fixed, and a question i'm also wrestling with at this moment despite not even being on WC yet.

In many ways I agree and that's why I haven't hit the button.

After Salah Mane and Hazard (who I don't have), I'm not thrilled by any midfielders. Up front there are options but I don't think what I have (Aguero Mitro Ings) needs to be drastically altered, although a second big hitter up front is tempting. I do have lots of little problems though like Peltier and Dendoncker, maybe Mkhi and Pedro, Ings for GW6.

It seems like a wildcard now is, for many, a way to fix problems in the team more than to go out and get players who are must haves; when I wildcard I prefer to be acting to get in players I wouldn't be able to get with a few hits. The move to get Lacazette and Hazard in looks tempting for a wildcard but i think there are quite a few risks which make getting this wildcard right pretty tough

        1. The Rumour Mill
          • 9 Years

I agree Geoff, it just doesn't feel like the right time, there's still a lot of unknowns about this season before I can think about wildcarding to set my team up for 25 weeks or so.

Aguero, Mitro, Ings is perfectly solid enough for now, I'm on Aguero, Zaha Ings and feel the same way, same goes for those with Wilson/Arnie/Jiminez complimenting Aguero too. They all seem to be performing well enough for now.

Yeah I've got 4 players injured too and one dropped, but don't feel a burning need to Wildcard. Gradual evolution of the squad will suffice for now i think, a hit or 2 there aswell if needed.

If a number of expensive assets start tearing it up then that will apply the budget pressure to seriously ask the question of whether Salah needs to be retained. He is the key to the wildcard question I feel. But at the moment, with most of them dormant, we don't need the Salah money elsewhere. Hence no need to wildcard. A combination like Salah and Wilson is besting a combo like Alli and Pogba, and thats without even taking captaincy into account.

Waiting on injury news for Tomkins and Zaha. Palace fixtures so great and even if I downgrade Tomkins to AWB, I think that Palace defense needs Tomkins to function.

Duffy instead of Cook Brighton have a good run of fixtures soon.
Maybe Pereira/Chilwell instead of Robertson and save the 1m for a rainy day.
      Doherty better value then Holebas.
      Team looks good though.

Perfection reached? I'd say pretty close (aside from the bench ofc ;)) managed to get the big 3 in defence while still being able to afford Hazard, Mane, Salah and Aguero- I'm pretty happy with it!

    Patricio (4.0)

Alonso / Mendy / Robertson / WB (Bennett)
Mane / Salah / Hazard / Fraiser (Billing)
    Aguero / Wilson (Quaner)

    A) Fraser, AWB, 3.9mil.
    B) Fraser, Bennett, kelly.
    C) Seri, AWB, Bennett.
    D) Holebas, Billing, AWB.

The best WC team i can come up with has 5 at the back. 0.5 itb for Mkhi to Ramsey if needed. I'm a big fan of 'coverage' as it has served me well over the past few seasons and continues to do so this year.

    Lossl
    Alonso Mendy Robertson Trippier Shaw
    Salah Hazard(vc) Mkhi
    Aguero(c) Ings
    Hamer Jimenez Stephens Hojbjerg

Nice to be results orientated - red card was unlucky, he played well. And their defence was hampered by injury to Tomkins - besides, he's bench fodder anyway for the most part and 4m is just great value for someone that plays.

    5. F_Ivanovic
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 5 months ago

This is beyond awful - all of those defenders will be rotation threats when CL starts meaning you are probably going to have a few games where Stephens or Hojbjerg start. By having just the 3 premium defenders + 2 playing cheap ones, you at least have some decent options coming off the bench if one of premiuns is rotated and it means you can upgrade elsewhere so that you have an extra attacking player.

      1. WVA
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 5 months ago

4.4 and 4.5 mids will outscore 4m defenders comfortably so arguably they are more decent options off the bench. 4m defenders are more likely to get you minus points! Shaw and Trippier are great options the other 3 defenders are must haves

        1. F_Ivanovic
          • 10 Years

You are either trolling, really stupid or both...Stephens has averaged 1.5 points a game and Hojberg 2 a game. W-B even including his missed game in this stat has averaged 2.5 a game (3.3 if you don't include the game he didn't play)

There are a plethora of other 4.5 defenders that have averaged significantly better than both of those midfielders per game.

    Ederson - Stekelenberg
Mendy - Alonso - Robbo - Doherty - Wan Biss
    Salah - Hazard - Maddison - Fraser - Billing
    Aguero - Mitrovic - Ings

    0.1 ITB
Maddison will likely become Richarlison in GW 7

    Any glaring errors?

BSilva to DSilva or Pedro and you're ready to go

Too many doubts in midfield and heavy up top in my opinion.
I Like Pedro, Moura & Bilva but are they really nailed? All started well but they could frustrate you pretty soon I think.
Prefer Maddison, Fraser & Richarlison (From GW7)
Laca looks great but I need to see more games to see if he's nailed.
I would downgrade either laca or Firmino and upgrade Moura to Hazard or Mane to Salah(His underlying stats suggest he will explode soon enough)
      Firmino/Laca > Ings frees up 3.9m
then go Moura > Hazard or
      Mane > Salah
      Just my thoughts

Was thinking of hazard but need hits in order to get him so holding out. Something to think about, thanks for the reply

    Probably a stupid qn but...

    Salah + Smith/Boly > Mane + Alonso

for a 4 point hit? My only way to get Alonso in - it sucks to have missed out 0.8 in price rise on these 2 players already as well!

I wouldn't lose Salah and take a hit too

Taa , miki > Alonso, schurrle for -4 . Surely not worth it this week is it?

I would look to get in Alonso as soon as possible. Hits are fine for nailed on and reliable long term options. Not sure about Schurrle but still worth it.

Robbo's fixtures not great but you fancy Liverpool to score against anyone and its likely Robbo will be involved!
