There were impressive performances for Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andrew Robertson on international duty on Monday night.

That may be of encouraging news to their owners currently worried about whether to start them for difficult fixtures in Gameweek 5.

All that and more Fantasy Premier League talking points from another night of international action in this latest Scout Notes article.

SERBIA 2-2 ROMANIA

Aleksandar Mitrovic (£6.7m) – 90 minutes
Nemanja Matic (£5.0m) – 19 minutes

Aleksandar Mitrovic continued his blistering start to the season by adding another two goals to his tally. The Fulham man has now found the net six times in the first five matches of 2018/19 with two assists to boot, one of his club and one for his country. In his last 30 matches in all competitions he has scored 23 goals.

Such form should ease any concerns among Mitrovic’s 19% ownership about starting him in Gameweek 5 when he faces a trip to Manchester City. The champions remain without a clean sheet in their first two home matches of the campaign while Fulham have registered more big chances than either of the sides to have already scored at the Etihad Stadium in 2018/19.

SCOTLAND 2-0 ALBANIA

Andrew Robertson (£6.1m) – 90 minutes
Kevin McDonald (£4.5m) – 45 minutes
Stuart Armstrong (£5.3m) – 45 minutes
Scott McTominay (£4.4m) – 11 minutes

Andrew Robertson was a standout performer for Scotland as they recorded a much-needed win over Albania. The Liverpool man has recently been handed the captain’s armband and he led by example at Hampden Park. Much of the play went down the left side of the pitch and it was Robertson’s cross for Steven Naismith that created Berat Djimsiti’s own-goal.

There was disappointment for the 6% of Fantasy managers invested in Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser (£5.6m) as it was revealed he picked up a knock in training with Scotland and missed the match with Albania. He is now a doubt for Gameweek 5.

Robert Snodgrass (£5.5m) and Callum Paterson (£5.3m) were unused substitutes for Alex McLeish’s Scotland side.

PORTUGAL 1-0 ITALY

Rui Patrício (£4.5m) – 90 minutes
Rúben Neves (£5.2m) – 90 minutes
Bernardo Silva (£7.6m) – 90 minutes

Jorginho (£5.1m) – 90 minutes
Emerson Palmieri (£5.3m) – 16 minutes

There was a positive update on Bernardo Silva after he played the full 90 minutes for Portugal as they beat Italy in their UEFA Nations League debut. The Manchester City man had revealed last week that he came out of a friendly match at half-time with a groin complaint, but his run out on Monday night allays any injury fears ahead of Gameweek 5.

Rui Patrício got another 90 minutes under his belt, which should come as no surprise. But there was another full appearance for his Wolves colleague Rúben Neves who appears to be slowly establishing himself in the international picture. Southampton’s Cedric Soares was an unused substitute again.

Jorginho was the only Premier League player to play the whole match for Italy. Chelsea teammate Emerson Palmieri made his debut for the Azzurri while Davide Zappacosta (£5.2m) was not in the matchday squad.

SWEDEN 2-3 TURKEY

Victor Lindelöf (£4.9m) – 90 minutes

Caglar Söyüncü (£5.0m) – 90 minutes
Cenk Tosun (£7.0m) – 90 minutes

Everton striker Cenk Tosun played his part in a dramatic comeback Nations League win for Turkey on Monday night. He provided the assist for Emre Akbaba’s first goal of the night, an 88th-minute equaliser.

Elsewhere there was a second full appearance of the campaign for Leicester new boy Caglar Söyüncü as he builds up his match fitness. Watford’s Ken Sema (£4.9m) was an unused substitute for Sweden.

I think I know what people will say and I can already feel myself leaning against it but go ahead and tell me which trio is better for the next 4 weeks or so:

    A) Peltier, Salah, Mitrovic
    B) Alonso, W. Hughes, Aubameyang

Obviously Peltier isn't playing in scenario A, the playing option there would be Kabasele/Wan-Bissaka.

Pretty much. He also has 3 great fixtures in the next four. West ham in particular look vulnerable at the back. I also expect Laca to start which is good for Auba.

He's putting up good stats and I agree he's going to get points, I do think he's as affected by fixtures as most other players though. Since I won't captain him in GW5/7/8 (maybe incorrectly) it's making me think he isn't worth it for this brief stretch. Could sting if I'm wrong though!

There's also an issue of Klopp possibly limiting his game time ( he might actually do well as a sub though)

Yeah, I'm not going to try to second guess rotation - there are too many players with that possibility hanging over their heads to make it a factor I can reasonably predict. Not worth the headache!

Very tough. Long term probably A as you’ll cap Salah more than Auba.

But B looks good short term.

Thanks, I still have my wildcard so I'm penciling that in for around GW9 unless my team looks well set when I get there or horrendous before then (more likely!) It's making me think a little more short term for that reason.

With a wildcard in your back pocket I think it makes sense to get rid of Salah for these tough fixtures. You can get him in from GW9 when Pool’s fixtures improve.

Hazard is in both teams regardless so I guess your suggestion is Aubameyang ➡ Mitrovic and Peltier ➡ Alonso

Which is definitely an option. I've predicated my decision on the basis that I want to buy David Silva because he's lovely but perhaps I should revisit the idea with a broader mind.

Not really, I mean I could but it would involve hits and I don't even want Mane that much for the next few weeks. I actually sold him for Hazard last week, wishing I'd sold Salah now (although was always likely to be Mane who got cut first).

Am I right in thinking that you are either doing Pelter + Salah > Alonso + Silva or Aubameyang + Hughes > Silva + Mitrovic?

I think B looks like a very smooth use of your transfers. I like it. Will you have the money to bring in Mitrovic at a later stage?

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Yes, exactly this (although I will try to consider what else I could do before I actually pull the trigger).

I'll *probably* wildcard around GW9 so unlikely I'll bring Mitrovic in before then - I'd need to find funds to upgrade Jiminez (who I like) or downgrade Aubameyang/Aguero which I don't fancy.

Basically if I ignore him now I'm not likely to look at him for a few weeks at least.

Actually, tell a lie - I'd have enough ITB to do Jiminez ➡ Mitrovic if I wanted to. Probably still wouldn't though (depending on what happens in the next fixtures of course)

I'm also thinking of going Salah less, I'm on my WC playing a 352

      Patrício - Ryan
Alonso – Mendy – Robbo (Bennett – Holebas)
      Mane – Hazard – Moura – Maddison – Pedro
      Aguero – Mitro (Ings)

Looks awesome based upon the first 4 gameweeks - you'd have smashed it out of the park if that was your GW1 team. Not a criticism of course; the games played (and the fixtures to come) are all we really have to go on but just make sure you're looking ahead more than you look back 🙂

I know what you mean but I'm concentrating more on form than fixtures, I also feel this team gives me some flexibility with formation - can easily go to a 442 and bring in Holebas for Watford at home fixtures or a 343 to bring Ings in.

Are you planning to downgrade Salah or Auba in order to do Peltier -> Alonso with part of the funds ?
If so I'd drop Auba. been in my team since gw1 and held for the good run of fixtures but dropped him on wc this week based on how deep he was playing.looked ineffective to me despite his goal. 2 transfers to get him back in if he finally finds form and gets more involved.

Interesting. I was thinking of saving if Wally is fit but yes even I’m tempted to sell him.

Out of those I would prefer Maddy if you already have Haz. Not much between those two just think Maddy is more nailed and has better long term fixtures. Although Pedro is a good way of covering Cheslea attack if no Haz.

Yeah, same as the commenters above, I'm cautious with hits so I'd hold for sure. Not that I'm particularly loving Walcott but I think the Maddison hype has got a bit overblown. I'd like to have Pedro this week as his fixture is great and he looks primed to play but longer term he's still a doubt. Walcott -> Richarlison next week?

Haha very similar to what I’m hoping to hear about Walcott.

I think one of B.Silva or Mahrez will start on the right and right now I’m favouring Bilva. But this is all guesswork Pep could just go for a 352 and bench both.

    Salah:

    Milner is better value
    Moura
    Pereira
    Hazard
    Pedro
...as a matter of fact Salah is 28th in terms of value this season, just behind March and Capoue.
    Food for thought.

No but I captained Aguero and Mitrovic this year, that went well.

Would you have captained Salah knowing that he would be 3 points ahead of Milner today?

Yes, but to achieve points later in the season it's a good idea to gain value at the beginning. I've been blessed with my GW1 team so I didn't need to many hits to achieve it. My team has a current TV of 102.8, that's Alonso instead of Kabesele in your team.

      “this season”

There is far more to come from him and a lot of those value players will fall down the list once their 1 big score out of 4 is 1 big score out of 10.

Yeh, true for the ones that I listed, you'll notice that I just took the FPL value in order.

My value players are the LIV defense, Alonso, Mandy, Mané, Pogba, Aguero, Mitrovic, Hazard (on next Friday) and considering a way to get Vardy in instead of Wilson.
I'm just saying that my team would be much less diverse and fun if I had started the season with Salah instead of Mané and 3.5mil less - and I would have missed sooo many price rises. Spreading the funds out rises out on many players has built my TV, and who knows, if Salah starts performing I might bring him in, but I'll have 1 or 2 million more to spend than players that started with him.

Well I have 0.9 more than your team in 4 gameweeks, you can check my team and transfers on my profile. Basically I'm not scared of taking hits in the first part of the season.

Interesting post. With him not being captain by most in 3 if the next 4 it is definitely something to consider.
You are obviously killing it without him!
Just out of interest: as someone who has started without him, what would it take for you to feel like you needed him in?

And the other point I made just above was that my TV is building up really well, so I'll have lots of funds to bring Salah in after AND have a great team next to him.

I'd need 2-3 weeks of steady 10+ point returns - which would mean more accuracy - and little champions league around because even though he can do some damage in 70 minutes I would need guaranteed full matches.

If only value and a 4 game sample was all that mattered.... if Salah gets 300 points again his price will undoubtedly be worth it. Plenty of mid-priced options may still have better value but it's much harder to pick the right ones at the right time since they are far from consistent.

In addition to this you have to factor in the fact you need to spend your entire budget and that you want good captain options every week. Mitrovic, Wilson and Deeney are all currently way better value than Aguero...but you aren't going to drop Aguero to pick all them 3 are you?

      1. maverickga
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

If Hazard gets a 300 point year he will be worth it
If Aguero gets a 300 point year he will be worth it
If Kane gets a 300 point year he will be worth it
And if any of Wilson, Mitrovic or Deeney get a 250 point year they will be worth it
I only now happen to think that Salah isn’t performing to his value. If he starts doing so I might get him some in.
Mitrovic for example has guaranteed starts and 23 goals in 30 matches. He’s on fire. Captaining him against Burnley was a no brainer and I was very surprised to see that few had done so.
Aguero is on form as well, scoring, sometimes hitting the post, and, for now, playing. If I see that Guardiola starts rotating him he might lose his place in my team for a more guaranteed starter.
And no, you don’t need to spend all of your funds, especially in the beginning of the season.

        1. F_Ivanovic

Of course, but none of them have ever got 300 points a season but Salah has. By now, do you mean after the 1 GW he blanked? Because before then he had returns in 3/3 GW's and was averaging a points tally that would get him to 300 points again.

If he blanks again against Spurs then you may have a point - I'm not saying he's essential or even the best pick but writing him off based on his current value is so incredibly short sighted.

I have Mitrovic too (and have since the start in both draft and FPL) - had him as VC vs Burnley because I thought Aguero was the safer option. His form is great but remember that Championship form should be taken with a pinch of salt... plenty of players in the past and even this year with Jota have performed exceptional there only to fail in the PL. Captaining him was def not a no-brainer (but one I would have done without Aguero)

And yeah, you should spend most of your funds... you can get away with 1-2m or so in the bank (I actually had 1.5 at the beginning) but now have 0. My point was you don't want 3m+ in the bank and if you got every cheap player that had the best value that could easily happen - in which case you'd be missing out on points from better players that held less value.

How is this WC team looking?

    Pat - Hennessey
    Alonso - Bavies - Mendy - Wan B - Holebas
    Mané - Hazard - Pedro - Gray - Richarlison
    Mitro - Aguero - Wilson

My only worry here is Bavies, but think he'll be starting most games ahead of Rose, even with CL. Plus I got bench coverage for him, in case he blanks.

      Holebas - Good call
Wilson - Fraser is only a doubt so it's good (especially with upcoming fixtures)
Ramsey - I considered this but decided too punty, not enough potential returns to justify risk/cost
Spurs - I am considering Trip over Roebrtson?
Salah - It's easy enough to jump back on the bus if you dont mind a scraped knee and a bit of a bruise to your ego after a few GW's
Ederson - CS over Bonus/Saves - I have him but it depends if you want the stress of 2 GK's for a saving of .5m

Might need a little tinkering but overall good team

Yes if you want to keep Wally long term.

I have Fraser & Wally both too but not comfortable benching Wally. Fraser is worth keeping imo if he’s out for this week only as there are no standout replacements for him and he’s the best option by far in that price bracket.

Will think about Richarlison or Maddison in for Walcott in due course

    Thoughts on this lot?

    Ryan
    Mendy Alonso Robbo
    Salah Hazard Mkhi Walcott
    Aguero Zaha Jimenez

    Button Bennett AWB Stephens

Saving the transfer here and possibly downgrading Mkhi to Gray/Fraser and getting Mitrovic for Jimenez?

Yep - looks good! You'd have a team close to most WCers around here.

      Keep Jimènez.

Would sell Wally or Mkhi depending on what comes out form the pressers.

Yep but I think I can wait a week with defenders on the bench with plumb fixtures!

Yep, nice team. I think you'll struggle this week, but will do well over the next 4.

      That’s a very expensive bench.

    Thoughts on planned transfers:

    Foster/Fab
    Luiz, Mendy, Daniels, Robertson*, Wan-Biss
    Salah, Pedro, Townsend, Mkih, Stephens
    Aguero, Firm*, King

Robertson and Firm to Alonso and Lacazette?

If Fraser is out, would you prefer Gray or Milner in the 5.5 - 6.0 bracket?

Foster and Patricio and save .5 to spend elsewhere- Bennett to Doherty or Rico if you don’t want Wolves double in defence

    Gtg?

    Hennessey
    Alonso, Monreal, Mendy
    Mkhi, Salah, Fraser, Hazard (c)
    Zaha, Kun, Mitro

    Hamer,- AWB, Bennett, Biling

    1ft, 0.1 ITB

If fraser, Mkhi and Zaha don't play I think my bench can handle it.

    Thanks

Haz over Kun? Ballsy but could pay off. I think at least 2 of the 3 you mentioned will feature. Gtg
