Gregor’s WC RMT

Begovic McCarthy

Mendy Robertson Alonso Doherty AWB

D.Silva Salah Ramsey Pedro Ward

Aguero Mitrovic Wilson

Goalkeepers

Begovic and McCarthy – I like to have a choice of goalkeepers and someone to fall back on in case of injuries, etc; I also don’t trust Hamer so i’ve gone with these two.  Their home fixtures normally rotate quite well – McCarthy’s looking good for saves and Bournemouth seem to have tightened up at the back.  I also like the Patricio and Hennessey rotation but as I’ve got those defences covered I decided to look elsewhere.

Defence

The holy trinity – Alonso, Mendy and Robertson.  Don’t think this needs much explaining other than to say I had started the season with Van Dijk due his threat at corners and feeling that Robertson will miss the odd game around the Champions League, but given Van Dijk has yet to have a single shot and the strength of my 4th and 5th defenders to fall back on, I’m now going with Robbo.

Doherty and Wan-Bissaka – Bargainous attack minded defenders playing for solid defensive outfits and their favourable fixtures seem to rotate rather nicely.  I may even play Doherty over Robertson this week.

Midfielders

David Silva – Nicely priced, posting good underlying numbers and hopefully should be pretty secure for starts for the time being at least given his international retirement and De Bruyne’s absence.

Salah – The Egyptian Messi – He stays.

Ramsey – Looks to be more in favour than Mkhitaryan and should thrive in a central attacking role. A nice differential with good fixtures, all for a reduced £7.4m.

Pedro – Probably a placeholder for Richarlison who I might look to bring back in a week or two but will see how it goes. Nice and rested during the international break so will hopefully compensate for having no Hazard over the next couple of plum fixtures for Chelsea.

Danny Ward – Easily benched given Cardiff’s fixtures but has an attacking threat that you don’t often find at his price. I also like the look of Hojbjerg though and could go with him to save an extra £0.1m.

Forwards

Aguero – If I hadn’t wildcarded I would have seriously considered playing my triple captain on Kün this weekend; the leaky Fulham defence seems a much better bet for a haul than the well organized Newcastle one last time out.

Mitrovic – Probably my biggest regret so far this season is not sticking with Mitrovic in my initial draft and going with King due to fixtures.  I fancy he might even do well at City this weekend in what I hope to be an open game.

Wilson – Form and fixtures align to make Wilson hard to resist, more shots in the box than any other player this season and if he can start converting more big chances then he’ll really be in business. I barely even considered him at the start of the season as I had him last year and he did nothing for ages but it’s an easy downgrade to Ings or Jiminez if the goals do dry up.

Notes

No Man United, as I don’t trust them at the moment and a win over an insipid Burnley could just be papering over the cracks.

No Spurs due to stadium issues, potential fatigue given their players international excursions, and a tough Champions League group. Might look at changing David Silva to Son or Moura in a few weeks though if one of those looks to have secured their start.

Conclusion

What do you think of my team? Where have I gone right and where have I gone wrong?

What does your WC team look like?

I’ve got Alonso and Pedro which looks like enough Chelsea cover for me. David Silva looks to be posting Hazard type underlying numbers as well.

Fair enough, I'd be looking at Silva also only I've tied myself into Ederson/Mendy/Aguero!
Alonso + Hazard on WC looks close to essential for me, Pedro is meh imo! GL though mate, hope it works out as it's a nice looking team apart from my gripe 😉

As I see it, Silva is like De Bruyne but for £8.5m and with three great fixtures coming up. Nice and rested too.

With Gregor's WC I quite like it.

Think Hazard is a must if your on a wildcard though.

Have you got a plan to get Kane in anytime soon? The fixture change to someone like Kane is huge. And will definitely be looking at bringing him in from gw6/7, even if his stats currently aren't the best

I think Alonso and Pedro should be enough Chelsea cover and David Silva might well outscore Hazard over the next few games.

I’m in no rush to get Kane given my reservations about Spurs in general but I will roll with the punches.

Not convinced on Pedro, will be swapped with Willian all season.

Just with bri, hud, CAR, whu. I'd be watching through my fingers if I didn't have Kane for them games

Pedro’s there for the short term and will likely become Richarlison.

I will find a way to get Kane if need be but you can’t them all and the likes of Brighton and Huddersfield can often do a good job of shutting up shop against the big teams, especially at their own grounds.

Good team, mister author. Very nice balance, and I like a lot of your picks.

That said, I might be too influenced by myself having wildcarded, and have chosen many of the same players.

I agree on MUN, and will probably avoid altogether. Although Lingard seems to be more of a regular this year than last season, and he could easily be a replacement for Pedro or Ramsey.

I, myself, will be going with Hazard, and to accomplish that I go Fraser as fourth mid and only two premium defs, Mendy and Alonso. So far, this is what I got. The question marks are undecided spots, and will be filled after PCs.

    ----
    McCarthy - ?
    Alonso - Mendy - Rico - AWB - ?
    Salah - Hazard - Fraser - Ward - ?
    Aguero - Mitrovic - ?
    ------

The ones I am considering in the ? spots are GK - Patricio, Bego, Foster, Dubravka, DEF - Doherty, Bennett, Jonny, Shaw (sic.), Alexander-Arnold, Holebas, Cedric, MID - Pedro, Moura, Ramsey, Lingard, Maddison, FWD - Wilson, Ings, Sorloth,

Tbh, I do not need anyone to rate my team. I go with my gut, and I just post this to help others with who I think they should consider in every position. Good luck to all wildcarders! ^^

I heard he was sent home from Scotland duty. However, as with Alli, it could be a minor thing, leaving him 50/50 for the weekend. If so, I would gladly keep, as the only one remotely close to his potential at 5.5ish is Demarai Gray (sic).

But thanks for the heads up, Mr Oak 🙂

Not sure Roberston is the way to go with difficult fixtures coming up. A downgrade there could give you funds to invest elsewhere, or if you really want to do a sideways move, there's Trippier you could look at.

    Unsure whether to WC

    Current team:
    Ederson
    Trippier, Monreal, Shaw
    Walcott, Jorginho, D Silva, Mane
    Zaha, Aguero, Firmino

    Subs: Fabianski, Lascelles, TAA, Cork

I got Shaw early before head injury and was thinking of Hennesey for Fabianski but can wait.
Thinking about Maddison or Pedro, but will probably not bother as want Richarlison back asap. Also tempted to get Vardy in for Firmino.

Not necessarily, i think this is a decent team. Because it's not a template team it doesn't mean is not a good team. The only issues i see is spending a lot in goalkeepers, and don't like spending 5 mil for Jorginho. Even if you don't transfer him out, just play TAA instead.

Thanks. I never use a template team and like to leave a little bit of depth on the bench to cover niggles and rotation.
I should have mentioned I still have £1.1m ITB from KdB to DSilva which ordinarily wouldn't sit well with me, but I want to keep Mane, so an upgrade to Hazard is out and Salah doesn't offer value for money imho.

I was tempted on either Pereyra or Maddison for Walcott, but as I'll likely be bringing Richarlison back in next week, I'm not bothering

Up front, I'm keeping Zaha as I'm not convinced Mitrovic will keep scoring with upcoming fixtures and I haven't seen enough from Wilson, Ings, Arnautovic etc.

The only other player I'll be watching is Vardy. He could be a handy differential has he can go on goalscoring streaks in a way I've not seen from Firmino.

I went from Zaha to Mitrovic myself.I was planning to keep Zaha for few more weeks but i have a feeling that Mitrovic will be the best budget forward of the year.
Vardy will probably be the consistent forward we know every year

Whether to get Mitrovic is the one I'll probably be thinking about most. I just feel he's a bit more streaky than Zaha, although granted this impression is based on his time in a Newcastle side that was about as patchy as they come and Fulham spent big in the summer.
I'll stick with Zaha for the time being as I could see him causing havoc with the fixtures he has over the next month, provided he shakes off his niggle.

Zaha is proper. He's scored 136 and 149 over last 2 seasons and I'd be amazed if he wasn't in the top 10 strikers in May.

Lot of things to like about Gregor's team!

I'd be tempted to play around with Pereira/Chilwell instead of Robbo and seeing how far you could make the extra cash go - possibly something like Wilson and Ward to Fraser and Jim (Or keep Wilson?) to allow some rotation there. The problem is you already have Doherty available for that sauad rotation role, so not completely convinced. Perhaps worth a thought though.

Don't think Hazard is essential if on a WC - I think he's a good punt for those with a WC still to play, but I'd be going Salah over him if on a WC. Like Ramsey as a cheeky punt.

    Good stuff!

Cheers mate. Have never really been one to rotate in the front seven though and lots have said that about Robbo but as I see it, he’s there for the long term and I’m not forced to play him every week when I’ve got Doherty and Wan-Bissaka to fall back on.

One thought on this... Why not go for Patricio and Hennessey? I get that you have them covered, but how often will you play Doherty and AWB? I think their rotation is better, especially over the next 5 games.

Like the Wilson and Silva picks, and Ramsey could be great. But he could easily become Moura, Maddison, Richarlison if not.

No love for Lacazette on WC? Good fixtures and the forward spot is his to lose after last performance.

This is correct approach for now right. My current bench is Neves, AWB and Kamara which is not very strong.

Not sold on Ramsey. We still don't know how Emery plans to line up in attack so even with Arsenal's enticing fixtures I'd steer clear. The rest of your team looks pretty good though, although I'd drop Robertson for the next 4 GWs (though I saw that you said you have cover for him so that's fine, however if you did get rid of him you could free some money).

I'm probably going to WC but still undecided on a couple of things, namely my goalkeepers and my 5th mid.

      X - X
      Mendy - Alonso - Shaw - Doherty - AWB
      Hazard - Dilva - Mane - Pedro - X
      Aguero - Mitrovic - Wilson

      A) DDG + Hamer + bench fodder (Hjojberg) + 0.9 ITB
      B) Patricio + Hamer + Schurrle + 0.8 ITB

A gives me a more reliable set and forget keeper in the long term while B gives me a very decent "5th" midfielder in Schurrle, who I'd rotate with Wilson / AWB / Doherty.
Also might go with two 4.5s instead.

Ramsey could be a great differential though and easily downgraded to Maddison, Pereyra etc if it doesn’t pan out.

I really struggled with the goalkeepers but I can’t be doing with Hamer personally. I would go with Patricio if you want a set and forget though.

            Agreed regarding Ramsey.

I don't mind having Hamer as long as he's paired up with a reliable set and forget (e.g. DDG), however getting rid of DDG allows me to free up funds that I currently have no use for.

My only worry is the route to Robertson. I've had two great weeks and two meh weeks so far, so don't mind tenplating slightly to stay there or there abouts. Was top 4k in week two, now down to 67k...

        Hennessey - Patricio
Alonso - Mendy - Chilwell - Wan Bis - Bennett
        Hazard - Mane - Dilva - Fraser - Billing
        Kun - Vardy - Wilson

Well, Vardy isn't template, but you know what I mean.

I largely like it. For me, I'd feel like dropping Vardy to someone around the 7/6.5 bracket so you could upgrade Fraser. As much as I like him as a pick, I feel like he needs someone that you could rotate him with, and the bench is a little too light for that - unless Bennett solidifies his place over Dendo-whatever his name is.

Salah will be required post GW 8 imo, if you want to hold rank. I'd consider drafting a "Salah plan", or else he could severely hurt you!

Good tips, thanks. He is my main headache; Fraser & Vardy - Mitro and Maddison is an option I've toyed with. Saves a million, too.

Salah will be the death of me, part of me has already accepted that haha

        Patricio
        Mendy, Alonso, Cedric
        Haz, Mane, Maddison, Moura
        Kun(C), Laca, Ings

        Foster, Doherty, Fraser*, AWB

Everything in order or I need to change something?

Looks fine, how to Cedric/Doherty/AWB rotate?

If you're sure of Moura over Dilva and Laca over Kaku then this looks gtg.

For me, Wilson a better route into bournemouth attack than fraser for wildcarders just because of this supposed injury, but can wait for pressers to decide

        Patricio (McCarthy)
        Robertson Alonso Mendy (AWB Bennett)
        Hazard Mane Dilva Pereyra (Neves)
        Aguero Wilson Mitrovic

Tempted by downgrading Robbo to Pereira or Chilwell and upgrading Pereyra to a 7ish mil mid? Could be good to do something like that for when Richarlison returns.

        On a WC - thoughts???
        1) Lukaku, Dilva and Haz will be essential in 2 weeks time.
        2) Ramsey just won over Mikhi.
        3) Periera playing OOP and for a good run of fixtures can replace Robbo.
        4) Only problem is zero Liverpool cover for the So'ton home game (Am i mad? )
        5) Maddison to Richarlison when possible, obviously.

        Hamer - Hen/McCarthy

        Alonso - Mendy - Doherty - Periera - AWB

        Dilva - Haz - Ramsey - MAddison - Hojberg

        Kaku - Aguero - Wilson

          Like how punty it is.

Not a fan of the goalkeeper situation, not sure Hamer will play and not a fan of a 4.5 fire and forget.

Very good looking team, could be a great rank climber (or leave you at 5m OR) 😉

currently top 2k so hoping to stay ahead of the game!

I'm tempted by giving Pedro the chance to cover Hazard's points and sorting out keeper situation with additional funds, could also do Hojberg to Neves and Maddison to maybe Moura.

Lukaku awful pick. Man Utd far too inconsistent, great player with Belgium but just doesn't deliver in a very erratic club side. Get rid for Mitro and upgrade Ram, Madd, Hojberg and Hamer

Lukaku has 3 in 3 with some pretty decent upcoming fixtures, is coming into great form, and has a nice run of fixtures. I also don't agree that he's inconsistent - he seems to go in waves. he'll have 7-10 weeks where he scores loads and then 7-10 where he does nothing. This just feels like the start of one of the former. You could be right though!

On my WC...Here it is thus far with 0.2 ITB left
        Patricio - Hammer
        Robertson - Alonso - Mendy - Holebas - AWB
        Salah - Hazard - Moura - Fraser - Billing
        Aguero - Mitrovic - Ings

        Some of my trouble spots/issues:
-Should I upgrade Hammer to Hennessey/McCarthy/etc and downgrade Holebas to Bennett?
-What to do about Fraser's injury. Should I stick with him or get Milner or Seri?

Any other thoughts are much appreciated!

Not sure I'd get Moura on a Wildcard, now Son is back he's a risk. Other than that, looks good.

Thank you for your input Bury94. Do you think I should upgrade Hammer at the expense of downgrading Holebas? On the one hand, Patricio and McCarthy seem to rotate well, but on the other hand, having another playing defender is very useful.

Hamer won't play now, but I'd keep Fraser as it doesn't sound like he'll be out for long and may even play this weekend

          Mendy / Alonso / ROBERTSON / BENNETT / Wan-Bissaka

Of course!! So basically B but Hamer > Foster and Lacazette > Zaha which leaves 1.9ITB which could be Maddison > D.Silva i guess?

        Robbo, Alonso, Mendy
        Salah, Dilva, Pedro, Fraser
        Aguero, Mitrovic, Vardy

        Subs: Hamer, AWB, Bennett, Ward

Thinking of maybe doing Robertson to Rico/Doherty and getting a better keeper?
