Harry Kane (£12.5m) is already the runaway leader of our Gameweek 8 captain poll, but do those currently not in possession of the Spurs forward need to sign him?

That is the big question on the minds of many Fantasy Premier League managers this week, especially with Liverpool and Manchester City options potentially cancelling each other out.

We’ve gone over some of Kane’s numbers from the first seven Gameweeks and compared them with how he was faring 12 months ago, to see if it’s worth selling the likes of Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) or Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) to get him in.

WC dilemma. Will have Doherty, of that changes anything.

    A. Hart + Patricio

    B. Hart + Ryan

Why not Fabianski? Great fixtures after the next 2.Fab

If I was on WC I'd get Hart or Ryan + Fabianski

For Wolves having Doherty + Bennett might do the job.

    Hennessey
    Alonso Shaw Doherty
    Hazard Maddison Mane Dilva
    Kun Arnie Zaha

    Fabianski Ward Mendy Tomkins

Just 0.1 off Mendy to Trippier. Should I do
    Mendy > Trippier
    Dilva > Richarlison for a -4?

Apologies for the long post xD

With Liverpool's stellar run of fixtures from gw9, Salah looks prime to be in our teams. But that 12.9m price proves too much for some of us.

    So..can Mane(9.9m) COVER Salah(12.9m)?

Looking at the last 4 weeks, since gw4,

    gw4.. Leicester(away):

    Salah: 3shots, 1 OT, 0 goals, 1 keypass, subbed at 70'

    Mane: 2 shots, 1 OT, 1 goal, 1 keypass, played 90'

    gw5..Spurs(home):

    Salah: 4shots, 2 OT, 0 goals, 3 keypasses, played 90'

    Mane: 5 shots, 3 OT, 0 goals, 2 keypasses, played 90'

    UCL..PSG(home):

    Salah: 2 shots, 0 OT, 0 goals, 2 keypasses, subbed at 84'

    Mane: 3 shots, 1 OT, 0 goals, 2 keypasses, played 92'

    gw6.. Southampton(home):

    Salah: 2 shots, 1 OT, 1 goals, 0 keypasses, played 90'

    Mane: 1 shots, 1 OT, 0 goals, 1 keypass, played 90'

    Carabao cup..Chelsea(home):

    Salah (came on at 86') : 0 shots, 0 OT, 0 goals, 0 keypasses

Mane: 2 shots, 2 OT, 0 goals, 2 keypasses, started and subbed at 70'

    gw7..Chelsea(away):

    Salah: 4shots, 2 OT, 0 goals, 1 keypass, subbed at 65'

    Mane: 3 shots, 1 OT, 0 goals, 1 keypass, played 90'

Also worth noting here, Mane got more gametime here compared to Salah.

It might be unfair checking these stats with Liverpool having played Spurs, PSG and Chelsea, but it's worth looking into.

Most have the fear factor of not owning/capping Salah because of what he achieved last season, but Mane for less money is kinda matching him and is a viable captaincy option as well if Salah is considered as one.

    Thoughts?

I don't think he will cover him and I would want to captain Salah so you have to think if who you will captain. Mane needs to score well as your cap also

    2. MTPockets

Big difference though between quality of their chances and opportunity to score - xG, xA and penalty area touches.

I think it's mostly a case of, if you've got a LIV attacker, keep them. If you don't, buy Salah.

      Stats can often be misleading.
I made a reference to this a couple of weeks ago after watching Chelsea play. Kante had two 'big chances in the box', but if you were watching the game you would know that was very misleading, and neither were likely to result in a goal.
Same thing after watching Lukaku against Spurs - lots of 'big chances' but did he ever look like scoring?

To answer your question, I currently have Mane (and TAA) as my only Liverpool players, after starting the season with only Salah. The funds required to get Salah into the team are not good value, when Mane, or even Firmino are a viable alternative for the good fixture run.

Do we think Aguero playing 90 minutes last night is a good thing, or a bad thing, in terms of his game time this weekend?

Good, because it shows he can if required.
Bad, because he's more likely to have reduced minutes this weekend now.

    1. Teror
      • 11 Years

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a bad thing mainly because he hardly wolloped Hoffenheim. He's not been spectacular since that Huddersfield game, 90 minutes tierder. Don't think he'll necessarily be benched or anything but he gives you little to hope for against Liverpool at Anfield, a ground he's never scored at.

      1. SPorting
        • 14 Years

Never having scored a goal at Anfield is something he'd like to be done with. Lovely bit of incentive that.

So if Kane doesnt score in August that is a reason to avoid.

But if Kun has never scored at Anfield that is motivation?

            Who mentioned Kane?

But if you're asking if have him for his August curse. Yes, for that that reason alone.

              Its owners' bias.

If you own the player, you think he's incentivized to break a past perceived bogey team/month/ground.

If you dont own them, you use that as a reason to not get them in.

He got the injury against Fulham didn't he? So this is the longest he has had in any game since then... maybe PG was testing him a bit ahead of this weekend, see if he can manage 90 physically.

      1. HamezMace
        • 12 Years
        7 years, 10 months ago

I think he had it going into the Fulham game, and it was always planned that he'd play the first half..and then whatever else he could manage...and he's not played more than 60 minutes since, although that's seemingly been because they have the game won, so can afford to bring him off. Obviously last night they didn't have that luxury.
So it's unclear if he stayed on out of necessity, or because he's comfortable with 90 minutes.
Surely he starts against Liverpool as the game is such an important one...but I'm still worried.

    3. MTPockets
      7 years, 10 months ago

If he'd been benched/subbed arguments would have bad - injury vs good - rest, so doubt it's changed anyone's opinion.

He plays midweek: "he'll be tired and benched for the GW"

Yeah I know, arguments and counter arguments to any Aguero situation.
I think he has to start given the importance of the game, but can Aguero start three games, and play 90 minutes in two of them in the space of one week? Has he ever managed that before?

Az has got notions if he thinks selling Wan Bissaka is a good idea

A 4m nailed on bench fodder is very sought after at the beginning of every season. The reason for this is that it's nice to have a full playing squad whilst keeping you're bench cost to a minimum.

Enter Wan Bissaka. Nailed on in a decent Palace defence sounds good right? I'll take that thank you. No one, I repeat NO ONE!! expected him to go on and score 12pts in GW1 and x2 9pt returns since then. That is Fantasy gold right there.

Now Az suggests selling him for 4.1m and potentially spending extra 0.2m on Diop for West Ham or perhaps any cheap nailed defender with better fixtures.

For me I think there's no need for this as if you're on a WC, you can plan the rotating defenders taking WB's 4 tough fixtures into account and if you're not on WC it is absolutely a waste of a FT.

Mainly, I would recommend holding because over Christmas is when you'll want a full playing squad the most and Palace's fixtures are pretty good through December. I dont see the need to have 5 defenders who all share good fixtures cause you give yourself bench headaches at a time when rotation isn't a primary concern if you pick you're squad correctly. All that will happen is your cheap defenders will all have rubbish fixtures at the same time forcing transfers to be made.

Another problem is when rotation is plentiful over Christmas, Wan is so highly owned that he will probably make a sub appearance for many managers and not owning him if he comes off the bench for 9pts for half a million managers is gonna suck!

Despite seeing Az mention to sell WB on 2 occasions, he's still in his squad (and isn't gonna rise before Friday deadline) which leads me to believe he is gonna keep Wan Bissaka, as we all should

I am seriously considering getting rid next week with five really tough fixtures left. The fixtures are so tough he is not even a good bench option. My team value has risen and with the budget strikers and defenders doing so well (Jiminez, Doherty etc.) I can afford to spend extra on a better bench or rotation option for this time. Can easily bring him back after the tough fixtures are gone. Don't see any problem with that.

      Totally agree.
Wan Bissaka is the most obvious, and essential player in the game this season.
At 4m, which is when everyone on this site would have been aware of him, it's surely the easier decision ever made. We all want a playing 4m defender purely for budget reasons.

Wan Bissaka plays for a decent team, and has returned maximum BAPS in 3 of the 6 games he's been available for.

Depends on your structure. If you are playing 4 atb most weeks it's fine. If you are playing 3 atb then Holebas is overkill.

I feel like we do a lot of self-validation on this site. If we all had Kane I'm sure we'd just be patting ourselves on the back, rather than trying to see how we wouldn't be the clear standout this week.

True. All this talk about Kane this when last week was the time it should have been happening.

How’s my rabble looking lads? Bench/ order giving me headaches! Am I safe for this 1 GW without Spurs assets?

    Fab
    Alonso, Robbo, Doherty, Duffy
    Salah, Hazard (C), Fraser, Rich
    Aguero, Mitro

    (Foster) (Hughes, Wilson, AWB)

I’m clearly at risk from losing lots of points on the bench but BOU double up didn’t appeal and I think Fraser edges Wilson. AWB is great but I fancy Doherty to return more than him

Still have my WC and will play either during IB or try and hold

    Thoughts?

I would be tempted by Hughes at home to Bournemouth

    A) Lukaku ➡ Vardy for FT
    B) Lukaku ➡ Arnie for FT
    C) keep Lukaku for NEW at home and re-asses next GW with 2 FTs in hand

    which of these?

      C.

I'm holding because I haven't decided which forward to get as his replacement especially since I want Salah next week.

Alonso for armband anyone this week?

Can swap Aguero to Kane for free but don’t think I’ll do that.

Have Hazard but Id be happy with a clean sheet and some bonus from Alonso cap this week.

Hazard the much better option? 1 goal away from home...

    A) Silva + Mane > Hazard + Maddison (-4)
    B) Hold for one more week and have 2FT next week

What do I do with this side? Mane and King > Maddison and Arnie

    Fabianski
    TAA-Cedric-Wan Bissaka
    Salah-Hazard-Mane-Richarlinson
    Aguero-Zaha-King

    Patricio- Tomkins-Peltier-Stephens

Ready to hit the WC button. How does the following look?

    Fabianski. Rui
    Johnny. Alonso. Trippier. AWB. Duffy
    Haz. Mane. Maddisson. Fraser. Hojberg
    Arnie. Laca. Aguero

    Thoughts?
    Can do
Laca - Vardy and upgrade a defender or Hojberg

What's your Salah plan? Remember that Kane combo of fixtures we're all tearing our team up of hud > CAR. Salah is getting that in GW9. Also, Aguero has BUR after a full 2 weeks off after Intl. Break. You sure you want rid?

      Think ahead. Don't chase points.
