We have updated the Watchlist after the events of Gameweek 7.

The biggest changes see some budget options at the back make their way into the goalkeeper and defender sections.

We’ve gone over the changes we’ve made to those areas of the Watchlist in this article, with midfielders and forwards to come later in the week.

Goalkeepers

Based mostly on fixtures, Alisson (£5.6m) has finally moved above Ederson (£5.6m). The two shot-stoppers will face each other in Gameweek 8 before Liverpool have two appealing fixtures against Huddersfield and Cardiff. Meanwhile, Manchester City follow-up their trip to Anfield with a home match against Burnley and an away day at Tottenham.

Over the next six fixtures, neither goalkeeper can support any fixture factors, either good or bad. We’ve also dropped Alisson down to a B for form as he has kept just one clean sheet in his last four matches. He also ranks 10th for form among goalkeepers on the official FPL app.

Rui Patrício (£4.5m), David De Gea (£5.9m) stay where they are on the list but their factors change slightly. The Wolves man retains an A for form but loses Favourable Fixtures. That’s because Tottenham and Arsenal are coming up in the next six. Meanwhile, De Gea and Manchester United receive similar treatment as they have to travel to Chelsea, Bournemouth and Man City. Kasper Schmeichel (£5.0m) keeps his place in sixth.

Bernd Leno (£4.8m) comes in for the injured Petr Cech (£5.0m). Arsenal have now kept two clean sheets on the bounce and continue to have decent fixtures. He keeps the place Cech held, just above Joe Hart (£4.5m), who was unable to add to his clean sheet count against Cardiff.

Mat Ryan (£4.5m) is a new addition to the watchlist. He comes on with a C for form but a Favourable Fixtures factor. No side ranks higher for defence on our Season Ticker over the next six Gameweeks than Brighton.

Wayne Hennessey (£4.6m) is coming to the end of his time on the Watchlist with some very difficult fixtures on the horizon. Martin Dubravka (£5.0m) remains bottom of the pile, but still in the conversation with Newcastle’s upcoming favourable fixtures.

Defenders

Marcos Alonso (£6.9m), Kieran Trippier (£6.2m) and Andrew Robertson (£6.3m) remain unchanged as the top three among defenders. The Spurs man keeps a rotation risk factor until we know about the injury to Serge Aurier (£5.8m).

Meanwhile, Matt Doherty (£4.5m) creeps above Aymeric Laporte (£5.6m) after a second double-figure haul of the season in Gameweek 7. He looks a more attacking option than the Frenchman, who remains our chosen Man City asset based on the fact that he is the only defender to have played every minute so far this season. With the aforementioned changes to Patrício, neither of these two options has a fixture-related factor.

Set piece takers Luke Shaw (£5.1m) and Jose Holebas (£4.9m) come next. The Man United man has a favourable fixture in Gameweek 8, while Watford’s Greek left-back faces a favourable run of games between now and Gameweek 12. Ben Chilwell (£5.0m) is still worth considering with Leicester ranked second for defence over the next six Gameweeks on our Season Ticker.

Then we have two new entries. The first is Shane Duffy (£4.5m), with Brighton currently top of the Season Ticker for defence over the next six Gameweeks. The centre-back also has two goals and two assists to his name so far this season. The other new face on the list is Everton left-back Lucas Digne (£4.8m). The former Barcelona man is joint-top with Doherty and Holebas for chances created among defenders over the last four Gameweeks.

As with Dubravka, DeAndre Yedlin (£4.5m) sits at the bottom of the list waiting for Newcastle’s fixture-swing to complete itself after a Gameweek 8 trip to Old Trafford.

Despite his popularity, Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£4.3m) moves off the list. That’s because his fixtures are set to stiffen up, and he no longer provides as much value as earlier in the season. The Crystal Palace man has risen to £4.3m, so does not open up quite as much room in Fantasy squads as before, and with Arsenal (home), Chelsea (away), Tottenham (home) and Man United (away) four of the next six fixtures, he is likely to be benched by anyone who does own him.

Certainly not. They might chip in a bit but Kane will be right on that 6 yard box the whole game. I’d be terrified not having him as captain.

Possibly, hard to assess Son thus far on his limited minutes. When he clicks his ceiling is higher than Moura's. You could do Bilva to Moura, bank the FT and Shaw to Robertson next week. I have Shaw myself but will get rid after Newcastle.

Just thinking of something I heard on a fantasy podcast. Your fantasy captains throughout the season will likely stretch to 4, maybe 5 players if considering only the captains poll on here. Thus you effectively have the likes of Salah/Kane/Aguero/Hazard playing 50 matches a season for you, assuming you count the doubled score as an extra match. Further to that, you typically only double the scores of their higher scoring gameweeks, so you end up earning a lot more points than their seasons’ total.

You have to wonder what fitting them all in from the start and getting those 50 matches out of all 4 would do to your overall rank, even if it meant dispensing with periodically better value options.

I've already captained 6 different players. Last season I tried captaining Kane most weeks, which failed. If I'd have done it with Salah, or even Lukaku to start the season, I'd have had an immense season. Swings and roundabouts everywhere.

      300 points (C) + 50 points 4.5 = 645
      2x 175 points value options = 525

      Simples.

It tends to hinder your squad rather than help it. You need the options as captaincy options but owning all 3 (until Transfer Value goes up a lot) hinders the balance of your squad. Playing a Maddison, Robertson and Alonso every week over a Cairney, Duffy & Cook makes a big difference compared to trying to fit in 4 heavy hitters. It is particularly felt when the heavy hitters don't rotate well.

I started the season with Salah, Aguero and Kane.
      I've got 136 captain points...out of a potential 170.
Captained Aguero 4 times so far, and Kane twice.

Repost as bottomed of last article.

    Keeper / Budget defender rotation.

Looking at a WC in GW10 and checking keeper options. Currently have Patricio and Foster which has served me very well but they face Chelsea and City in GW 15 which prompted me to look elsewhere. With West Ham starting to look better all round and Fabianksi impressing I checked out a Wolves West Ham rotation. Can anyone do any better than this:

    10. Brighton (A)
    11. Burnley (H)
    12. Huddersfield (A)
    13. Huddersfield (H)
    14. Cardiff (A)
    15. Cardiff (H)
    16. Newcastle (A)
    17. Crystal Palace (H) / Bournemouth (H)
    18. Watford (H)
    19. Fulham (A) / Southampton (A)
    20. Burnley (A)
    21. Brighton (H) / Crystal Palace (H)
    22. Arsenal (H) / Man City (A)
    23. Leicester (H)
    24. West Ham (H)
    25. Everton (A)
    26. Newcastle (H)
    27. Fulham (H)
    28. Huddersfield (A)
    29. Cardiff (H)
    30. Cardiff (A)
    31. Huddersfield (H)
    32. Burnley (A)
    33. Man Utd (H) / Chelsea (A)
    34. Southampton (A)
    35. Brighton (H)
    36. Watford (A)
    37. Fulham (H) / Southampton (H)
    38. Watford (A)

Nice work - and doubt you'll find a better one on paper but what I would say is Fabianski can haul at weird / unexpected times, so I'm looking more at him + 4.0 as a set & forget, and bring Doherty in to cover Wolves' good fixtures whenever they arise.

It served folks well recently, but I'm not sure long-term I'd want to double on the Wolves defence at any point by having Patricio there to swap in for what might look like poor fixtures for West Ham on paper, only for Fabianski to sit on the bench with 11 points.

GL if you go for it though 🙂

I'd prefer to have a 4.5 keeper facing any of the lower teams, especially the likes of Burnley, Hudders, Cardiff, then take my chances with Fab against any of the top 6. Plus if he gets injured you have to waste a transfer to get a playing keeper.

On current form I really have no problem at all playing 2 Wolves defenders against the lower teams.

      Fabianski/Ryan is good too.

      10. Wolves (H)
      11. Burnley (H)
      12. Huddersfield (A) / Cardiff (A)
      13. Leicester (H)
      14. Newcastle (A)
      15. Cardiff (H) / Crystal Palace (H)
      16. Crystal Palace (H) / Burnley (A)
      17. Fulham (A)
      18. Watford (H)
      19. Southampton (A)
      20. Burnley (A) / Everton (H)
      21. Brighton (H)

Ooh, that is good. What's it like beyond Christmas. I'm looking for longer term than new year preferably so can save WC til DGWs.

Forward planning that far ahead may be fool hardy though and it's only a transfer to switch to another 4.5.

        Thanks

      Considering some Hokey Kokey!

      Got 2 FT.
I can do Aguero and Zaha, to Kane(C) and Jimenez this week.

Next week I will bring back Aguero(C),

The week after I will go for Jimenez to Arnautovich.

This way I keep Salah, and Hokey Kokey Kane and Aguero for their great fixtures. What you think?

which Liverpool/City players do you have? I personally am not because my defenders have decent fixtures and I have Hazard..

It could work, try to see what you 'will' score (estimate) and then make a Free Hit team and compare the two - genuine chance Kane, Laca, Vardy all get double-digits this week

    16. SADIO SANÉ
      • 10 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

which of these do you prefer? I can't help thinking Sterling is a better pick than Aguero...

      A) Aguero & Richarlison (Gunnarsson)
      B) Sterling & Richarlison (Success)
      C) Iheanacho & Sterling (Gunnarsson) - leaves 1.1 ITB

I can keep Aguero AND get Sterling, but would need to lose Mane and have a very cheap defence...

      Hazard - Salah - Kane - Kun

Surely the simple answer of which 3 to own comes down to fixtures.

I brought Kane in for the Car/Hud games and took Salah out for Che/Liv.

The fixtures swing and Kane has a bad run. Therefore, Kane out and Salah back in.

The other 2 have decent (if a little mixed fixtures).

      Simple.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

'Alli, Eriksen, Aurier, Vertonghen and Dembélé have all been ruled out of the Barcelona match and #GW8 too. They "will not be available before the international break".'

How does this impact your thoughts on captaincy for GW8?

Kane looks an obvious pick, if not the obvious pick. His form is good, even if his stats aren't what we might like, and the fixture looks perfectly set up for a big return. Equally, with Liverpool and City playing each other, many will be hesitant to look there for captaincy.

Hazard is an option, but this week looks wide open for captaincy, particularly for those without Kane.

Do these absences hurt Kane's captaincy argument? Why or why not? How will these absences affect Tottenham's play against Cardiff? Is Kane still the best pick for captaincy?

Since the start of this season it has, Ive checked. That’s why I didnt captain Hazard vs West Ham btw.

I would prefer not to believe in it but hey, what were the odds of Richarlison not scoring vs Fulham, with his team scoring 3 goals?

He was the most transferred in player last week.

Vertonghen and Dembele played in the first half against Huddersfield, and Winks, Son, Lamela and Lucas will likely have a tough game against Barcelona on Wednesday before playing again on Saturday. That's different factors from last game.

I still think he's the best captain this week, but it's naive to think this situation isn't negatively impacting the Spurs side and thereby Kane.

as long as they don't play that England-style 352 with Moura upfront then he will be fine, he just needs a couple of quick/wide players around him (which he has) and the rest doesn't really matter all that much. He was never particularly out of form either, they played a formation that didn't suit (like England) and the rest is bs. It's sofa time.

Kane is clearly the best captain option, it's not close. However i think there's enough doubt about Spurs form to make avoiding him a fair tactic. If I had him though it would be a no brainer

Have to agree with this. If I had him he'd be captain but I think it's enough to push me to not buy him.

I was considering Aguero > Kane (free, still saving a FT) but I don't think I'd do it even if everyone was fit, really. I'll wait until later in the week either way

This to me is the balance between skill and luck in fpl. The skill is in deciding whether Kane worth the transfer, the luck is which one was proved to be right

I'm in the exact same position. 2 FTs & can afford the move in one.

Crucially for me is that looking at my mini leagues I don't think anyone else is in that position...

Guess the important factors are in how you get Aguero back, and what occurs tonight/tomorrow in the CL.

Agree with the points that it's an easier fixture, and the rest of the midfield can pick up the slack.

Don't agree they can do it straight after a Barca game. Less options for rotation, Dembele is crucial, and Vertonghen/Alder are much better as a pairing than individually (although the latter is less important).

I'm all set for the 1 week Kane Hokey cokey

        GW8 Lacazette + Mane -> Maddison & Kane (2ft)
        GW9 Kane & Maddison -> Salah & Arnatovic (-4)

Kane for GW8 and Salah for GW9 & GW10 are by far the most outstanding captain choices in my opinion, I think the hit will work out across the 3 weeks.

Kane only owned by approx 13% of the top 10k isn't it? And playing Cardiff at home. This feels like one of those rare weeks where big gains in rank can be made. No brainer.

No eriksen is good news as a no Kane manager. He adds an extra dimension to the side. Will be another sloggy win for Spurs. Can best 1-2 goals if he maintains 100% shooting accuracy which has low likelihood.
Hazard seems safest reliable captaincy for people like me hovering around 5k and looking to consolidate. Che vs Soton has been high scoring match from both sides in past years. Agreed this season is different setup and manager but Soton are worse at defending than ever before too

I finally took Salah and Aubamayang out for Kane and Hazard. Feeling great about it.

As a pool fan I would much rather have Salah but he just isn't worth the £13m this season.

Kane always has a poor start and then ramps up around this time of the year.

Fingers cross it pays off with a hattrick.

Mitro no, Arnie yes. Mitro will start suffering because of his poor team. Cant keep it up with so little quality around him.

I prefer two mid price with better fixtures from Lacazette/Firmino/Vardy
